Blimey Katierocket - what a story! Glad you got it sorted - hope TA gets a chance to look at this before GP - you stumbled across this thread at the right time

trendaverter · 07/08/2007 09:46

bloody hell! I don't know how you stayed sane!

7 weeks into one baby that has CONSTANTLY suffered wind/colic or now reflux is doing me in. I did the emotions/feeling test yesterday and was found to be on the cusp of high PND risk but I think I am ok...just wishing that I had a baby that was a bit giggly and happy instead of miserable.

HV has agreed to give her findings to GP (she was here yesterday to witness one of the 'episodes').

I am exhausted but I think I am ok really.

Between vets and doctors I am beginning to think I am part of a very sickly family! Bloody hell too my Mum has been ill for a couple of weeks, she was only diagnosed with whooping cough! Hope LO doesn't get it, we are there this weekend.

Charlie would LOVE to meet up anytime - for that matter am always happy to drive for a bit and have a coffee with any of my post natal chums on here, I am v lonely! I am in Reading and spent about 5 days in Essex every 2 weeks, any offers? LOL I have even resheduled LO's jabs so I can make the London meet up on the 16th

Actually I am having a bash in honour of LO on the 26th in Essex, all invited - let me know if you're up for it and will email you details...more the merrier, I need a laugh

trendaverter · 07/08/2007 09:49

Katierocket you are right about the miserable bit, I told HV that yes he is gaining weight but it is a bloody nightmare doing it, I have to return to work in a few months and can't leave him like this, I am stressed.

It's horrible seeing them in such pain isn't it? Colic was almost easier in comparison, at least he ate!

katierocket · 07/08/2007 11:04

Honestly TA, do consider it. We looked into everything trying to find the cause and I knew deep down that it wasn't normal behaviour (DS1 had horrendous colic but it was more standard IFYKWIM rather than screaming and being miserable for most of the day). I really didn't think the dairy thing would make a difference but it was amazing. Paediatrician said it's very common (and often missed). It's not an allergy(which stays with you for life) but a reaction in the gut to the protein in cows milk, causing them to have terrible stomach ache. FWIW his symptoms were:

  • very miserable, crying a lot, frequent periods of screaming
  • very sicky (hence why they thought it might be reflux)
  • dark green nappies (he was initially BF so this wasn't particularly normal)
  • horrendous sleep - wouldn't be put down, woke up every hour or so at night

anyway, I hope you get it sorted, it's horrible to have to deal with.

trendaverter · 07/08/2007 12:54

Dr has prescribed gaviscon...might be too early to tell but he has already been a lot better...

Dontknowmyarsefrommyelbow · 07/08/2007 13:52

Fingers crossed for the Gaviscon TA.
Have you had any joy with the passport photo yet? Still pissing myself laughing when I think of you in photo booth holding lo up with a white sheet over your head

trendaverter · 07/08/2007 14:18

Balls to you

I am using photobox - your link gave me the idea to see if they did it, I took the photo myself and edited it myself (would you believe me if I said I was a semi pro photographer after I told you a stood in a booth wearing a blanket? Probably not... artistic, yes, smart, not so much...)

Plus MN gives a discount for photobox

bumperlicious · 07/08/2007 15:31

TA, you have mail! Btw with the dairy thing, if you do decide that may be the problem I read that it can take up to 3 weeks for the milk protein to leave your body, so you might have to persevere at it. Good luck with the gaviscon though, not quite as vile as the dentinox I don't think!

trendaverter · 07/08/2007 16:22

hmm wondering if I cocked up... the last feed went so well, I got him to sleep after and he was sleeping for soooo long that I was scared maybe he was having having his long night sleep too early!

So I woke him up for the next feed, which he downed in one (but hey, no screaming), but the vomited most of it up about 45 mins later.

Perhaps I should wait til he WANTS it. Doh

justbeme · 07/08/2007 16:31

Hi - Ive caught up but now cant remember who said what!
Lucy's been asleep alot today - dont think thats a good sign though for later!
Did any of your Lo's get heat rash from sunday?
Lucy developed this awful rash with tiny little blisters across her torso and up her neck - but as she's been well in herself I just put it down to heat rash. The nurserynurse that weighed her said she didnt know what heat rash looked like (wtf?)

TA - where in Essex does yr Mum live? I live in Herts near the A1M.

Glad your holiday was good Daisy (apart from the accomodation)

Oh and was it Bumper? But my left boob has twice recently got engorged and Lucy also seems to prefer my right - how weird is that?? i thought babies preferred the left as something to do with hearing your heartbeat etc

Charlie999 · 07/08/2007 16:38

Is DS still taking 6oz TA? Is it worth feeding him in 2 halves (during the day anyway ) - just wonder if that would help keep it down. My DD does this herself sometimes by refusing after about 4oz then asks for more 20 mins or so later and finishes it up.

Also if she guzzles too fast and is too hungry, more of it gets spewed up....

Sure you've already tried this, but just trying to think of what may help.....

Will definitely meet up for a coffee (I'm going to 29th meet up as I can't make the 16th) - so let me know when you're in Essex next! (can't do 26th either I'm afraid)

trendaverter · 07/08/2007 17:15

Yes still taking 6oz... I am pretty sure it was my fault, will force him to stop halfway and have a burp. Also I re-read the instructions for use and they are rubbish (or I am thick)!

They say for a baby > 10lbs use 2 packets for no less than 8oz, oops I was mixing it up with the usual 6 ( hey I am tired) so for the next one I will use 1 sachet for use with no less than 4oz despite him being >10lbs.
a bit of trial and error here I think, if that doesn't work I will make up a bigger feed to use with 2 sachets.

JBM yes LO had a rash too, poor things this weather is horrid for them! Especially when they cry as that makes them even hotter. Mum lives near Chelmsford, A1 not far from us at all.

Charlie, sounds great, I am in Essex from this Friday to Tuesday 14th then again from 26th to 3rd (lol I am never home, but I am staying away for a week so DH can redecorate with me in the way)
Shopping sounds great

Jamantha · 07/08/2007 17:16

LO had 1st set of jabs this afternoon. Screamed at the time but settled pretty quickly afterwards. Think she fussed longer (though maybe not as loudly) about being undressed for weighing and redressed afterwards than for the injections. And has been better this afternoon than normal - has had 2 x 20 min naps in her basket, which is very unusual for daytime, and is now asleep upstairs again. Maybe we should get her an inhection every day?

And after a trip to the pharmacy we're now trying gripe water to see if it's any better at clearing her wind than infacol, and have got 1st bottle of calpol on hand in case. Can't believe she's a big enough girl already to be allowed calpol!

trace2 · 07/08/2007 17:53

ta yes just use one sachet, or make more milk other wise to rich for them, but do try smaller feeds or try winding in between

katierocket i had same with ds it took a doc on hols to reconize his problem with cows milk but he was fed with bottle, they put him on ysoy milk it worked within three days he was a diffrent child after that. the peads have said about dd now we got reflux sorted she may now be same as ds she too wont go down as dark green poo all her nappies i asked on a thread other day about that, i thought it was her meds

trace2 · 07/08/2007 17:54

Jamantha how much does lo weigh? hope no illness with jabs

Jamantha · 07/08/2007 17:58

4.26 kg (or 9 lb 6oz apparently) - up from 3.8 kg a fortnight ago

trace2 · 07/08/2007 18:05

wow great weight, am having chloe weighed to morrow i think she be about 8LB 5 oz

trendaverter · 07/08/2007 18:08

Jamantha try dentinox, worked a treat for us - you can get it in Boots or large Sainsburys

justbeme · 07/08/2007 18:16

TA - Im off Junction 4 of A1m, so if your ever going to be coming this way - let me know!!

I bought some Denitnox too and tried it - but cos im Bf you have to give it with a really fat syringe - and lucy just spat it out twice - It smells exactly the same as the gripe water i used 12 yrs ago - and thats alot cheaper, so maybe thats worth a go. I think you give that on a spoon?

Jamantha · 07/08/2007 18:22

Oh dear! After a third nap, of an hour, she is now sobbing unconsolably. Have given calpol - how long for it to work?

Charlie999 · 07/08/2007 18:24

Shouldn't take too long Jamantha - I had same thing last week. Just give her a big cuddle really tight and the calpol should get going shortly.

Jamantha · 07/08/2007 18:26

thanks charlie. i feel awful for her!

Charlie999 · 07/08/2007 18:27

Yeah I did as well - if you remember I worried you and everyone else .

Got to be done though......

You can give her another dose beofre bed later and hopefully she'll sleep well

trace2 · 07/08/2007 18:31

am scared to give dd some calpol in case shes to little

Jamantha · 07/08/2007 18:35

how old trace? DD will be 8 weeks tomorrow and was told it was fine.
