Hi everyone been awol all weekend as had peeps about. Dh has gone to new york this am until thurs so will need my wits about me. Still hopefully will bring some nice pressies back

Daisy glad you had a good hols have you looked at rural retreats www.ruralretreats.co.ukfor a cottage we use them and the properties are all fab not cheap but you get everything (tea towels towels toiletries etc etc) and a welcome hamper they are all really clean as well. We are off to one in devon on fri.

TA SG sorry you are having feeding problems so depressing when they won't feed properly and frustrating

Lo has been feeding lots too in this hot weather and he is 6 weeks so a combinatioin of heat and growth spurt means my norks are never in.

Have 6 week check this morning hope dr doesn't do an internal can't bear them.

Speak to you all later

trace2 · 06/08/2007 08:45

morning all!

iv been told to give dd a dummy it helps with reflux, but she wont have it very much, dd takes 2 oz now every two hours but goes 4 hours in night then second feed back to two hours. chloes best time is morning wide awake for hours smilling and cooing.

as anyones babes have bright green poo? loony is that holly?
charlie i just striped dd down yesterday and put her in pram in garden then bathed her early to cool her down.

daisy hope you had a nice time am really misssing my hols but none for us this year, do you drive daisy? i would love to meet up but am a wimp at driving any where i dont know

trace2 · 06/08/2007 08:47

dd got her jab on wed, whos had there and was they ok with it?

Charlie999 · 06/08/2007 08:52

Morning Trace & Andiem.

My DD had her jabs last Wednesday, she screamed ( as you'd expect) and I gave her some calpol when we got home, but overall she was OK. Little bit of swelling but it didn't bother her.

Have to say, I found it quite upsetting , but I WAS able to calm her down and deal with it, so I must have done something right!

I also had my 6 week check last week - didn't have internal but I had CS - just lots of "hows your relationship with your baby / husband etc" type of questions.

trace2 · 06/08/2007 08:58

glad she was ok, am just scared of dd getting ill after jab, dont know weather she can have calpol with her meds ill have to ask, my 6 weeks queck is at end og august at 12 weeks(shock) dreading the questions about what we going to use now cos i carnt take pill dont want the injection, hate condoms

trendaverter · 06/08/2007 09:00

Morning all
Lucky you Daisy, I am still having rough nights. DS doesn't like sleeping, apparently.

I have called the HV to come and have a look at his feeding problems. It's making me really tired and frustrated and snappy. I don't know what to do - I just want to rule out physical problems (HV said maybe a mouth ulcer or something but I don't think so)...anyway best just to rule it out.

beyond that I just don't know. Daisy yes I have tried 3 different teats, makes no difference to the screaming.
It's like he is ravenous but as soon as I put it in his mouth he screams the house down like he is in pain. I don't get it.

So anyway let's see what HV says. Have tried different teats, different feeding positions, next thing maybe different formula? I think it's unlikely, but I don't want to rule it out.

Looked at the bottles Annobel recommended but it doesn't seem to be wind, he is fine with that - but will bear them in mind if all else fails.

trace2 · 06/08/2007 09:04

trendaverter, what happend with ds when feeding? sorry carnt find what you put

trace2 · 06/08/2007 09:17

found it lol, am no expert but while we been in and out of hospital, we have lernt a lot dd been used for teacher young docs so found things out they would not normally tell you, reflux is quiet common now some just a little others like chloe where its a danger to them, as it stops oxygen getting to her brain or lungs.

but its dissressing for all babies even if they have a little reflux as it causes pain comming up because of acid build up. you can have reflux if they are sick or not its just diffrent types or even both,if they crying with food it still sounds like reflux it can put babies of milk they are hungray but dont want the pain so rather not drink it

trendaverter · 06/08/2007 09:28

Trace TBH you sound spot on really

I haven't really spoken to you much but FWIW I think you are doing a fantastic job, I would be in bits by now if I were you, your strength has been amazing. I cannot cope with a rough night, but when I think of what you have been through I feel very humbled. I hope things are now on the up for you!

Your diagnosis seems pretty spot on though, as he wants to eat but it seems to hurt him, and then when we have finished feeding he seems to hurt, and he has never been a vomity baby but he voms after every feed now (leaving him hungry...and so it starts again).

trendaverter · 06/08/2007 09:31

OMG I have just read THIS and yes seems to are dead right Trace... right down to the coughing, hiccups etc - I never put the 2 together

trace2 · 06/08/2007 09:38

trendaverter we are all doing a great job we have brought loverly babies in to this world and we do our best to care for there needs, they can not talk or tell us anyother way whats up with them so its a guessing game they can only cry, yes diffrent crys helps us learn whats up with then but it takes time(grin)

i wouldnt say am any stronger than anyone else either its funny its her colic i can not cope with now! and having hard time with her not going down when i want to do house work its theapry to me.

explain all to mw or even gp cos they can try infant gaviscon, dd was on this and i thought was working but she needed stronger stuff in end

trendaverter · 06/08/2007 09:42

I will do - having read a few webpages there is no doubt in my head now that you are right, reflux is the problem. They say speak to HV/GP if more than 5 times a day which it is, it is with every feed. It's getting very distressing.
Will see what HV says, if I am not happy I will see the GP tomorrow.

It also says that babies with reflux are in a lot of pain sleeping on their back, how funny, a few days ago I posted that I could only get him to sleep on his belly. I wish I had talked to you last week!!

But yes we are all doing well and we all have problems... I had colic with DS previously, it's horrible! Dentinox worked well for us but not sure if Chloe can take it with her meds?

trace2 · 06/08/2007 09:47

no she can not take anything for colic.

i put chloe on her side and her cot and pram is raised near her head it helps but they have to get used to it, also keep ds up on your chest for a while after that helps too

trace2 · 06/08/2007 09:51

daisyandbabybootoo · 06/08/2007 09:57

just a quick hello from me this morning. Sorry to hear about all the feeding problems. Mine with DD seem mild by comparison.

Trace, I echo TAs comments...what you are going through makes all of our woes seem pretty insignificant. you are going a great job with all of this, and with other DCs to look after as well! I would love to meet up and I do drive so I can come out to meet you. I'm pretty busy for the next couple of weeks (off to Scotland on Wednesday till Sunday, bringing my nephews here, then my sis coming next Wednesday and staying till Saturday..phew I must be mad!) but definately after that. Are there any big parks near you?

Going for DDs jabs tomorrow. she should have had them last week, but we were away. I think someone was asking about timing of jabs last week. Derlor said the other week that if they have the first one late, then they should continue on a four weekly cycle after the first one.

Right, gotta get to the PO to pick up a parcel before it gets returned to the sender!

Later...have a good day everyone!

trace2 · 06/08/2007 10:00

daisy theres cannon hall or some where nearer to you ill have a think, and yes if they have there jabs late the other will be 4 weeks after, am i right in thinking you have ds same age as my ds 5 years?

Seansgirl · 06/08/2007 11:19

Thank you all for being so lovely and supportive, I should have stayed away so long. It seems that dummys are good then, this has helped and I have allowed DS a dummy this morning with no gulity thoughts at all!

strangely, but thankfully all is going well so far today and both kids behaving. DS fed well, sat in his bouncy chair for at least an hour with no fuss, played under his mobile for a while and is now sleeping. DD is queitly occupying herself . How does the song go? .. there may be trouble ahead..... I have my bf from school coming later, I haven't seen her for four years as she has been teaching in Bangkok - you can guarantee it all going to kick off then can't you?!

Sorry Trace, our moans and worrys are nothing compared to what you have been trough, I don't know how you keep so up beat.

TA - you'll laugh at this - I have bought a swing for DS in an attempt to find him something that might settle and amuse him - £60 it cost! Needless to say that i shall ebay it afterwards! On ebay not my maternity bundle went for £91 in the end!!! hooray!! I was only expecting £40-50!

Seansgirl · 06/08/2007 11:19

Duurrr shouldn't have

Seansgirl · 06/08/2007 11:20

apologies for the bad typos!!

daisyandbabybootoo · 06/08/2007 11:37

trace, cannon hall farm looks good and there's the park too. definately. My ds is 5 as well so they should play well together. anytime during the last two weeks in August would suit me just fine.

what a palaver getting out of my street today. there are roadworks on the main road and the end of my road is completely blocked. I had to drive on the pavement. getting in was even worse as i had to do a huge detour to come at it from the right direction or I'd never have gotten back in.

got my bumper pack of various nappies today. i bought some second hand ones so i could road test a few different types before buying the ones i like. they all look so cute, although i know i won't be saying that when i'm scraping the poo off them at 3 o'cock in the morning

DS has been offloaded to my neighbours to play with her grandson this morning...makes my life so much easier.

SG glad you're not fretting about the dummy too much. DD sometimes likes hers, sometimes not. I don't force the issue with her so hopefully she'll self wean from it like DS did. As soon as he found his thumb the dummy was discarded, but he gave up his thumb by himself after about four months.

Seansgirl · 06/08/2007 12:15

Hi Daisy, they are funny aren't they - DD didn't have either, until 6 months and then she started sucking her thumb all on her own - and still does now, accompanied by ticlking her chin with a label too when shes tired. But some reason that doesn't bother me at all.

daisyandbabybootoo · 06/08/2007 12:34

I think it's a case of "whatever gets you through the night" SG.

Nappy experts out there....how do I soften up cloth nappies? The second hand ones are really hard. I'd heard vinegar, but can it be any sort of vinegar or just white vinegar?

trendaverter · 06/08/2007 15:10

sorry Daisy can't help - if I knew I wouldn't have carboard towels

My HV has been, DS has bad reflux, have to change to comfort milk, if that doesn't help, infant gaviscon it is then. Puke comes out violently now and even through his nose, he looks really ill

trace2 · 06/08/2007 15:54

daisy i use pammpas (BLUSH) i want to use then but no idea which to get, and i heard white vinigar for softening then.

comfornt milk is more expensive and peads told us dont change unless we tell us too dd is on farlys, but if they change ours will be a prescription one

trendaverter · 06/08/2007 16:27

I don't mind using comfort milk - have heard good things - as long as it makes him feel better!!
Might try those other bottles too if I can convince DH to part with his dosh!
