I saw a woman using these in Costa Coffee in Bluewater last week! Was it you?!

annobal · 05/08/2007 21:03

lol - no, i'm the one screaming at 2 kids with the 3rd crying while flashing my norks as i can't get the hang of public bf

Seansgirl · 05/08/2007 21:20

TA DS takes the same too !!! 3-4oz and then faffs 1/2 later looking for more then sort of drinks some and dribbles some too. And if he has had a delayed wait for his milk when his drinking he sort of drowls and snorts at me! IKWYM when you say why did i do this? i do too sometimes i think my life was so nicely predictable and calm, me DH and DD all getting on fine, then DS has disrupted all our lives, even DD is a bit fed up and has started having night terrors sometimes. BUT i do love him , and now that the first 12 weeks are the worst, and it will get better. it just doesn't feel like it at the mo.

Thanks for the links annobal, think will give them a go! anything is worth a for a quiet life, or a smoother life would be good

Seansgirl · 05/08/2007 21:21

growls not drowls, one handed typing with DS on left arm!

sputnik · 05/08/2007 21:27

Seansgirl, sorry to hear you're having a tough time. About the dummies, I know what you mean, I also have a thing about not using them but it's totally irrational actually. Everyone here in Italy uses them and seem to have no problem getting rid of them later. I didn't with DD as she showed no interest and so far DS has been ok without, though he does have his off days (like today actually, though nothing like as bad as you're getting, by the sounds). Anyway, what I'm trying to say in this ramble is if it works, go for it, they say sucking relieves wind, maybe that is his problem.

trace2 · 05/08/2007 21:30

Seansgirl it sounds like reflux, my dd as the worse kind but one sysmton is arching there backs and crying through milk, also cos the acid backs up they like to take little and often which is better for them, also changing milk might not help unless gp says too and try raising there cot/ moses basket keep up an hour after feeds its a pain but it helps

sputnik · 05/08/2007 21:33

God I feeel exactly like that sometimes Seansgirl. I'm even typing like that too You are not alone.
DD is at nursery most days but this weekend I've found it really tough coping with both at home. the nursery will be shut for a week this month and I'm dreading it! Hats off to any of you at home all day with 2 or more!

sputnik · 05/08/2007 21:34

Trace, how are things with you and Chloe?

trace2 · 05/08/2007 21:35

hi to every one else to my ds 5 is being great with us hard work but really good ( god i hope have not spoke to soon lol)

trace2 · 05/08/2007 21:36

hi sputnik fingers crossed no hospital this week, shes had a few little episodes but we managed to bring her round, hows you ?

trace2 · 05/08/2007 21:39

god i dont get on here much when i do i seeem to talk to myself lol never mind it will be my bed time soon as shes still feeding every two hours

sputnik · 05/08/2007 21:39

Fine thanks Trace. That's good news, hope you continue to stay away from the hospital

Seansgirl · 05/08/2007 21:49

Thanks Trace, my hv said it was a possibilty when i saw her the other day, and said you can have infant gavisgone. she also said she could refer him to a feeding councillor which i may do. don't worry im not planning to change milk again, the hv said that if i changed to this comfort one then i shouldn't change again.

Sputnik - my dd left nursery on friday - ready for school in sept i am dreading being on my own with both - which i am sad a bout as i should be looking forward to her last few days at home afterall i'll no douby miss her once she is at school!

daisyandbabybootoo · 05/08/2007 21:50

Good evening! Holiday was fab thanks...spent last night looking for a bigger cottage for next year!

SG sorry your having a hard time at the moment. I feel like I've not spoken to you for ages and seem to have missed so much. If it's any use, my HV when i had DS siad that Farley's is one of the best formulas there is although not the most popular. I swithced to that from BF DS and he continued to poo 3 times a day as he had been when BF. There was no obvious difference except his poo got a bit firmer.

TA...are you sill using newborn teats? He maybe needs faster flowing ones? just a guess really as my DD does this too and I'm still BF. She goes on OK, the just when I think of getting comfy she pulls off and wants to have just the end of my nipple in her mouth. I now have to hold her head and my boob so can't even MN when feeding anymore. After 5 mins she pulls off again, but if I try to sit her up to burp her she screams at me. It makes feeding times very tense and stressful.

Hi Vole3...welcome to the madhouse. I missed your first post when I was speed reading the last week's posts, so I'm off to catch up better!

Had friends and family around today for a baby headwetting/brithday party for DH. He was the big 40 on Wednesday . The weather here was great, the kids splashed in the paddling pool then tried to dig to Oz and everyone had a lovely relaxed time (although I didn't sit down until 5 o'clock).

Now enjoying a lovely chilled glass of pinot grigio, DCs in bed, and mountains on the telly.

Oh, and Babyboo slept from 11:15 until 7:15 last night

daisyandbabybootoo · 05/08/2007 21:56

Hi Trace....things sound a bit brighter then with Chloe. I hope you're being kind to yourself with all this tooing and froing and worrying about Chloe. I hope she's getting better. Have they given you any firm diagnosis yet?

What are the symptoms of reflux?

When DD is feeding she'll be quite happy than suddenly seems to be gulping for air and wheezing. I thought she was just drinking so quickly she#s forgetting to breathe as well? I need to get back to the Baby Cafe, but have a busy few weeks so don't know when I'll manage it.

bumperlicious · 05/08/2007 21:57

SG sorry you are having a crap time. We succumbed to the dummy and DD is lik Maggie Simpson ! But I think it soothes her belly when she is feeling uncomfortable.

Don't feel bad, we are all having up days and down days.

I hate to do this, but I'm going to have to wake DD up to feed or she will wake up just after I've gone to bed.

loonylovegood · 05/08/2007 22:01

Hello! I have one thirsty baby here! I have been feeding every hour or so for the past couple of days (including at night!) and I'm bloody knackered! I figured it wasn't an issue because he was prob just thirsty because of the heat. I got sick of it just now and decided to give him some water. He's just drunk 4oz of plain water! Thirsty little man!

Hi Trace, glad everything is going better and your lo is doing well! Hope it stays that way for you x

SG good to hear from you, it's been a while! No advice really, but I'm sure things will get better soon. We all have the "why the hell did I do this?" days, don't feel bad about it. And re dummies I am a big fan! If I didn't use one I would have a constantly norked up baby! DD still has one at 2, but only to go to bed with and in a couple of months we will get rid of it for good.

Ooo daisy, am v of the pinot grigio! No wine in my fridge, alas! I drank it all last week during my evening as a pissed up ninga!

Dontknowmyarsefrommyelbow · 05/08/2007 22:04

Hi All!

For what it's worth - I think dummies are freekin brilliant!
I didn't want to give him one at first - but when the cranial osteopath recommended we try one as sucking relieves built up pressure in the head and can help align the scull bones. And I read that reflux can be helped by sucking on a dummy due to the saliva neutralising the acid build up. So I think dummies have had a bad press and can actually be GOOD for the baby! That's what I keep telling myself anyhow!!

daisyandbabybootoo · 05/08/2007 22:05

holly, is it the six week growth spurt?

pissed up ninja...what have I missed?

loonylovegood · 05/08/2007 22:15

Mmmm, maybe 6 week growth spurt. The water seems to have worked though, he is fast asleep for the first time today!

Did you miss my night of going out on the piss last saturday? I got so drunk I was sick in the toilet and passed out on the bathroom floor ! Was a very fun evening!

OP posts:
daisyandbabybootoo · 05/08/2007 22:18

LOL Holly, glad you enjoyed yourself. I drank 3/4 bottle of wine on holiday and threw up three times so can empathise with you!

DD has been a bit dehydrated over the last few days, but I can't get her to drink any water at all. she just spits it right out!

daisyandbabybootoo · 05/08/2007 22:24

LOL

loonylovegood · 05/08/2007 22:29

Lol, I did drink more than that, but not as much as I normally do! I think I had half a bottle of wine and about 6 pints and I was hammered! I saw my bf on thurs and she told me loads of stuff about the evening that I don't even remember and that never happens, I usually remember everything! Did your hangover last forever? Mine lasted for about 3 days!

I'm quite shocked that william actually drank the water. Alice never took water at all, she just spat it out. As soon as I started to wean her she had diluted fruit juice and still does.

daisyandbabybootoo · 05/08/2007 22:45

no-one around now then?

feeding time at the zoo here...talk to y'all tomorrow!

Charlie999 · 06/08/2007 08:08

Morning all

FWIW I think dummies are great too - I wouldn't be sane if I hadn't have used one - next time, I will pack one for my hospital bag .

SG - sorry you're still having problems feeding. I am finding that my DD mucks about on her bottle a lot more now. If she screams during a feed, I tend to give her my finger or a dummy for a little while until she calms down and then give her the bottle back. If she constantly pisses me about and spits it etc, I give up and try again later. I agree with TA - I try and keep very calm if she isn't and try not to get uptight - if she wants it, she'll take it like a dream, if she doesn't, I don't force the issue. She also hates water!

Trace - glad things are a bit calmer - long may it continue x

We had a really bloody hot day yesterday and it was SO difficult to keep DD cool. She slept all night with no covers on and in just a nappy and had 3 feeds of 6oz during the night - presumably to keep her fluid levels up? What does everyone else do to keep their LOs cool?
