Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Just checked my e-mail.....phew . Thanks everyone

I'll have a proper read of them tomorrow (too knackered at the moment) and do a round robin reply.

Is there any more news from Trace? I hope wee Chloe is OK.

Dontknowmyarsefrommyelbow · 04/08/2007 22:00

Hi Daisy

We are doing ok, routine - well sort of!
I am vaguely following the Gina Ford feeding and sleeping times and it is giving us a good structure - but he took great exception to being put down anywhere (cot/bouncy chair) on his own - and just wanted to be held 24/7 which was very limiting for me and did my head in!
I then started adopting some of the principles from this fella and it has made an amazing difference!
The less I let him cry - the less he then cries which sounds odd - but he seems to be getting more confident in this new world and over the last week is much happier sitting on his own in his cot looking at his pictures or in his bouncy chair. When he starts to get upset - I go straight to him and he calms down straight away now - and I seem to be getting more free time to get some chores done around the house - or go shopping without a baby having a tity fit!
However - every day is different - tomorrow could be a different story!? I guess we'll never be ahead of this parenting game will we?

Dontknowmyarsefrommyelbow · 04/08/2007 22:01

Oh Daisy - I hate that phrase 'round robin' IYKWIM! and oh boy am I round right now!!

daisyandbabybootoo · 04/08/2007 22:42

Oooops sorry

if it's any consolation I'm a dumpy daisy at the mo as well.

and I don't know why I used it....I wouldn't usually!!

Dontknowmyarsefrommyelbow · 04/08/2007 22:44

LOL - just me being sensitive! It's a bit of a sore point at the mo!

vole3 · 05/08/2007 06:58

Woohoo!
DS went through from 2330 to 0445 for the first time! Don't know if it was because he was tired cos of the heat, had fed loads during the evening cos of the heat or the sound of the fan lulled him asleep, but I'm not complaining.
Now I just need to sort out my dodgy joints that hurt most at night and stop me sleeping through........

annobal · 05/08/2007 07:46

Hi everyone! Well done Vole! I remember the first time the other 2 went through - you wake up and your first thought is 'I hope they're ok'! This little one is still waking every 3 hours - he does settle easily though so it's not too bad.

Welcome back Daisy, hope you had a great holiday.

MOAN ALERT! We have bil, gf and niece (5) staying for the weekend. The kids all get up at 6.30 and they sleep in leaving me to get up and look after them, even though I've been up all night feeding a new baby! ok moan over, I can go and catch up now!

bumperlicious · 05/08/2007 10:30

That's not on annobal! you are well within your rights to moan. tell the kids to wake them up next time!

how bad a mummy am i? i just scratched dds head with my really long thumb nail. i literally removed some of her skin poor thing yelled and is now comfort feeding! off to the park for a couple of hours then mum coming over so dh & I can finally go and see harry potter!!!

annobal · 05/08/2007 11:02

Lucky you Bumper - have a great time!

It's not just the sleeping in with the bil and gf, he is just such a free-loader. Whenever they come, we always end up paying for everything, even down to train tickets when they go out. He never even offers to pay, just expects it. GRRR

TALLULAHBELLE · 05/08/2007 12:02

TA Try this site for baby passport photos. photos We put DD on white sheet on floor & took dozens of shots to get one that we hope is OK. Have sent application off but the guidelines are totally ridiculous. She is 5 weeks in photo & travels on it for 5 years!

trendaverter · 05/08/2007 14:45

Tallulah many thanks!!

Will give that a go - we spent the £3.50 in the booth and it was pointless. All we got was a memento of me sitting in a phone booth holding LO up to the camera with a white sheet over me LOL!!!

annobal · 05/08/2007 15:01

TA - a shop that develops photos or some chemists will usually have a passport photo service - they lie LO on a white cushion. There is usually one on every high street. hth

sputnik · 05/08/2007 15:18

LOL at the white sheet, TA, please can you post that on your profile?

DD's passport photo dates from when she was 8 months or so, and looks nothing like she does now, at 3. Makes people laugh though as she was really blubbery (her brother is heading that way too). If you can wait til they're 3 months or so to take the photo then they'll have some head control and you can take it upright.

Speaking of blubber, I appear to have lost a couple of kgs of the stuff, really pleased as I have been exercising quite hard [smug emoticon]

Welcome back Daisy, glad you had a good time, we missed you

trendaverter · 05/08/2007 15:27

Sadly no I don't have a scanner!!

But I look exquisite

Sputnik v jealous of you losing blubber, I still look 7 months pregnant (no I am not being modest, I really do). Still I am going to start going swimming soon (soon...always soon) and hopefully that will shift it.

My mother has been giving me grief for months as I don't want LO christened. I just don't. I have agreed to a 'naming party' but it started up again today, how she would help out more if it were for a christening, but as it's just a BBQ she's not interested.

sputnik · 05/08/2007 15:53

It has been quite hard work, but now I have got some results it's quite motivating to carry on, it's the getting started that's difficult. I hung onto my pg weight for about a year and a 1/2 last time, and don't want to repeat that, at least I have a bit of time while the baby sleeps in the day still, and I want to take advantage before he really becomes time consuming.

PITA about your mum, will we all turn into nagging mothers do you think?

bumperlicious · 05/08/2007 18:54

hi all. been to see hp this afternoon! was weird leaving dd, but had a great time.

sputnik, how have you lost all the weight? there was a mums and babies aerobics class in my town, but the leisure centre was ruined by the floods, won't be back in action for 9 months no swimming or aerobics for us. I am going to join buggy fit classes though, and as DH is off for 2 weeks I can go back to yoga for a bit.

What's your plan for the naming ceremony TA? We aren't having a christening and fortunately no pressure but would like to do something - just so we can get more presents!

Seansgirl · 05/08/2007 19:02

I am having a bad day. I have got myself totally wound up about DS feeding and about him being totally unsettled unless he is feeding or asleep. The feeding I just don't know whats right and whats wrong anymore. Have changed brand again as DS seemed totally unhappy after every feed as if he was uncomfortable. So today have gone with comfort digest milk and trying to only feed him every 4 hours so he is really hungry and then i have found he dribbles less.So was expecting him to drink more but no he seems to be drinking less and then wanting to graze after a while. But my main stress is that decided to try (although really unhappy about it) a dummy and it seems to settle him down. Only trouble is that DH seems to be popping it every time he complains which i think is wrong but he says theres nothing wrong with it if it is soothing him. I just don't know as it makes me feel like a bad mother like i can't cope with my child. Is it me?

annobal · 05/08/2007 19:24

Seansgirl . So sorry you are feeling like this. Firstly, everyone feels like this at some stage.

Is he putting on weight? If he is then don't worry about how much he is taking. I know that Charlie often does this and some days you just have to go with the flow as he may not be as hungry.

Does he have wind? Sometimes they can mistake wind pain for hunger pain. There are things like infacol that work well to help get rid of it.

If the dummy is helping then don't give yourself a hard time. They really do work wonders and are easy to give up later on (I've had 2 dummy addicts and have both happily given them up at 2).

I hope this helps. Not that I have any pearls of wisdom but call or text me if you want to

trendaverter · 05/08/2007 19:29

No Seansgirl it's not you...I think a few of us are having a hard time.
I for one am getting increasingly pissed off with LO - he cries with hunger, give him a bottle and he screams like he hates it, does everything he can to spit it out, if I get any milk in him he screams again as soon as I stop. Feeding time has become a real trauma.
I have tried changing teats, no difference...thinking about changing brands.
So anyway no you are not alone, and I say pop the dummy back in if it's easy but sometimes don't - I don't always put it back in and after grizzling a bit he shuts up. Also he is learning to put it back in himself

Bumper we are just having friends and family come over to my parents who have a big garden, we will have a BBQ (weather permitting) and lots of booze... hoping there will be presents too
But really we just want to wet the baby's head as it were, and get pissed.

Seansgirl · 05/08/2007 20:22

Oh thank you Annobal & TA, I forgot how lovely everyone is on here - I had tears in my eyes whilst reading I suppose I thought the second would be easier, but its not & he is different from DD. He does have infacol, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't and sometimes he spits it out! i don't know if it is wind, i try and wind him every 1-2 oz but sometimes no matter what I can't get any. he sort of goes red in the face straightens his legs and arches his back and screams. He doesn't want to held, cuddled or anything. And if its not that we get projectile vomiting, thats not all the time, so I don't think it is reflux.

TA, your DS sounds like DSs twin! , I have tried changing teats - and have also tried a different bottle but he didin't like that either. How much does your DS take?

Seansgirl · 05/08/2007 20:26

One of the other reasons we've changed brands is that about a fortnight ago he went from pooing 2-3 times a day to every 24-36 hours! He spits water out, and the Dr was pretty unconcerned. But I really think that it is not right, so have changed.

trendaverter · 05/08/2007 20:33

Seansgirl yes!!

Same same, it is DOING MY HEAD IN
Your LO sounds exactly the same as mine, pain in the arse.
The only thing we can do that works (and I use the term loosely) is to be very soothing and relaxed about feeding (as opposed to angry and impatient - hard for me!) but still FIRM.
Put the bottle in and he'll scream like a loon but we hold it there while he's screaming and after a minute or so he calms down and carries on feeding like nothing was ever wrong.

When it come to burping we are just very firm and sit him upright and wait (no patting, just holding him up) if that doesn't work chuck him on the shoulder which soothes him (usually).

SG it's really really hard, some days I think OMG why did I ever want to do this, I am Soooo not cut out for being a parent, but I draw strength from all the other mums on here who have struggled through these early days and have come out the other end while their sense of humour and sanity intact!

annobal · 05/08/2007 20:34

The other thing you could try is Dr Brown's bottles - they are meant to take the air out of the milk and help with wind.

trendaverter · 05/08/2007 20:35

oops didn't answer your question - sometimes 3oz (he finishes a bit later), sometimes over 6! All depends.

annobal · 05/08/2007 20:37

Info on them here and can buy them here

I used them with both T & G and I think they do make a difference...
