Apologies if anyone has started this - I can't see one anywhere. Thought we could all meet up here to discuss our newborn darlings.
My little man is doing well - this is day five (I think!). He is feeding well but my nipples are sore - am sure my latch is OK but I suppose it can't be. MW comes tomorrow so will ask her. He's got lots of wet and dirty nappies so milk must be going down OK. He feeds lots in the day and then about 3 times between 8pm-8am. Slept from 2.30am to 8am today. Feeling proud of self as managed trip to playgrund this morning with him in sling and dd in buggy. Managed a 45 min play and about 30 min walk and he slept the whole time. It's as scary going out the first time with him as it was with dd!

Anyway, will stop whittering! Had a few tears (mine) yesterday as I was looking at him and thinking how lucky I am to have two lovely children. Couldn't stop crying. Hormones, hey?
How are the rest of you doing? Wonder who'll be next to pop? Highlander has her section on Monday, I think.....

yahoo, he's back to his chirpy self today. Was demonstrating to his daddy how great it is to grab things from the table that he's not supposed to have! It's bizarre, you give him a choice of a bright, baby-friendly toy or well, anything adult, and he goes for the adult 'thing' every time......... then loses his rag when he can't grab it easily . Clearly has inherited his mum's temper!!!!!!!

Anyone got any advice on introducing rice cereal?

Glad to hear it, Highlander. .
Um, baby rice....can't remember much except mix it with breastmilk or formula and do a "milk s/wich" at first - breastfeed, spoonful of babyrice, breastfeed. Oh, and always introduce new foods in the am so you can see any reaction there may be. Good luck. I am going to attempt to hold off on solids till ds is 6 months. So much hassle compared with just whipping boob out

Hello everybody, hope all of your babes are well!!

We are loving being in South Africa. Tiny Tate is no longer so tiny!! He was weighed at 15 weeks and tipped the scales at a whopping 19lbs - he is going on 19 weeks now and getting bigger by the hour . DH and I aren't huge people and we just cant figure out how we produce such mammoth babies...

Anyway on the development front - TT started rolling properly on New Years Day and is attempting to sit on his own now - poor thing grunts and strains like crazy and gets really frustrated when he falls backwards into his nest just seconds after his hard work to sit up on his own. The rolling business is pissing me off a tad, he has slight gastric reflux and the action of rolling back and forth produces torrents of puke (YUCKKK)! and piles of washing...

So ladies who else is in line for another? I think somebody upstairs must have blessed me with a heavenly baby this time round after the bloody awful time we had with our first - would love a third but am terrified I'd be tempting fate... 1 monster boy, 1 angel boy - probably end up with a monster girl... will keep you posted...

Apologies in advance that I haven't read all the postings, I have been offline for a couple of months and am just catching up.

Hope all your babies are doing well
Love
Dejags

Hi everyone. I've just discovered the September babies club so I hope you don't mind me joining in. DS was born on the 22nd and so he's 4 months today I'm debating when to start weaning him as his feeding routine has gone all up the creek and he's started to wake in the night again for a feed (hasn't done that for weeks!) Has anyone else started to wean yet?

Hey Dejags, great to hear from you and TT! Sounds like my ds - is there something about Sept babies that means they are big bruising boys?! Highlander's ds is a whopper too!
Welcome, Pheebe. My ds seeming very interested on food (he's four months too). Trying to hold off for now - mainly because I can't be bothered to start pureeing just yet

LOL at the 'can't be bothered' attitude comment dinny! I've given DS a few spoonfulls of cereal mixed with EBM, but it was such a faff I think I'll hold off for a few more weeks! Tiktok assures me that 1 in 4 babies are bigger than DS

Hi there Pheebe; sorry to hear your DS is waking in the night. How did we ever get through those early weeks of non-stop BF?!

Report
highlander · 17/01/2005 23:42

aha, the last few weeks of 30 min naps and general grumpiness has become clear today - TEETH!!!!!!!!!

My God, he's only 18wks and there's 2 of the little blighters just popping through. I do not know why I didn't spot the signs - bright red cheeks for the last 3 weeks, drooling like mad, not sleeping very well during the day and a sudden penchant for hard things in his wee gob. The wee munchkin - still, they should be through in a few days now! I can feel the edges. They're sharp. Suddenly BF doesn't feel that appealing

I;ve just discovered this thread too. DS 19 weeks old and has only been sleeping through night for last 2 weeks or so. Bliss!! Then I pushed my luck and tried to drop the late evening feed, so we had a slight relapse. Am also starting to think about weaning as probably have to go back to work in 6 weeks , but we still have a lot more than 5 separate feeds a day, so not really sure where to start. Any tips from the second time rounders?

Where is everybody?

Thanks Dinny to your reply on my weight thread. DS2 is doing fine so I am determined to enjoy him and not worry. He may be a little porker but he is incredibly cute and is reaching all his milestones bang on time if not early.

How are you all doing?

Hi everyone
Just discovered this thread - my dd Frida was born on September 9 and is a joy - I can't believe how lucky I am - I still weep a bit with overwhelming love for her! Interesting to see the weaning question is with us all - have not started yet - have been buying spoons, bowls etc, but don't feel ready yet. She puts her hands in her mouth constantly, looks very interested in my food, but is still sleeping well. She is so into her hands that she tries to put her thumb in her mouth while breast feeding - she really is a little character and very vocal - ok enough soppiness, got to go and quick dinner

Hi elliesmoomoo
Was beginning to give up on this thread. I was in the process of starting to wean my little one and then she has caught this horrible stomach bug - unrelated, but have been advised to stop her solids... she is fine, but going through loads of nappies which is not much fun. Does your baby sleep much at lunchtimes - mine is a little monkey and refuses to sleep more than half an hour and gets really cranky later on. Still I guess I am lucky as she sleeps really well in the evening. She is teething at the moment and I can see two front teeth - they grow up so quickly

Hi There Janx. Ellie has decided to change her routine recntly, little Madam!! She insists on having 3 or 4 half hour naps throughout the day. And sleeps from 7.30pm till 7 ish in the morning. However she wakes to BF roughly 3 or 4 times!!! Previously she mostly slept through!! Ellie has a veg puree 4 lunch and a fruit puree for tea. What types have u tried with ur little one? Her faves are avocado, potato or broccoli. She BF lots too which is great She has been rolling over since she was 4 months and now is trying to crawl but she gets frustrated!! Hope to chat to you soon

Hi elliesmoomoo
DD still got the trots - although she is fine, no temperature etc, just green pooh - yuk. Will go back to docs if not gone next week as he said it would last two weeks. Had just started her on baby rice, so not much experience of anything else. She is asleep at the moment, but I can hear her stirring!! Her favourite passtime is putting her feet in her mouth - so cute. She did start to roll, but then forgot how to do it! Better go princess has woken

Hi everyone!! Sorry being quiet - seem to have been racing around chasing my tail a lot at the mo!

ds is almost 25 weeks - hasn't time flown! It is frightening to think he is coming up to 6mths! We've just started solids and he is loving it! Still quite titchy (in comparision to big bro) - weighing in at just 16lbs today but happy and doing well! Can just about roll from front to back and trying the other way. Is also trying to crawl but can't quite figure out what to do - so funny to watch! He adores ds1 - I can see them being 'thick as thieves' - trouble ahead! !!

Hi everyone, i'm new to this site so would just like to introduce myself. I have a girl born on 5 Sept and she is a little angel. Nearly 6 months, I can't believe it, where does the time go?

Started solids a couple of weeks ago on HV advise as she wasnt taking much milk and has recently started waking up in the night hungry. Weaning is going fine but what a mess!!

Now i'm trying to get my head round going back to work in the near future. I got made redundant while I was pregnant so its not even as if i'm going back to a familiar job. Feeling a bit panicky about it to be honest.

Dont get on the Pc that often so I hope its OK if I just drop in occasionaly.

Hope all the other Sept babes are well.

Just posted a "where are you all" message. Anyway as promised here is our update:

Tate is lovely - he is still happy and sweet. He rarely cries and that's only for food - his one true love. He scoffs anything he can lay his hands on - I have never seen anything quite like the sight of my six month old devouring a baby rusk . He is a real pig and will eat anything I give him.

he is rather portly (see my thread about the mom & baby group in the feeling depressed boards) but I don't give a toss (not today anyway ), rolls proficiently and is almost crawling (eeeeek this prospect leaves me feeling distinctly worried). He finally started sleeping through the night with some regularity about 2 weeks ago - he hasn't fed in the night for nearly 3 months now but he has been such an awful sleeper

Otherwise we are happy as larry - I am secretly planning DS3.

How are you all?

hello september mums. It has took me 6months to remember how to use a computer so i am new to this site. My little girl was born on 29th Sept and is generally a good baby but is still waking once in night is this normal? She takes only 2 oz of milk now because i have reduced it down cos i know she dosent need it. Any advice on getting her to stop having this bottle.

Dejags - planning number 3 already!!!!!!!!! Wee Tate sounds so cute; he's taking to the South African beach life then?!

The postman asked me the other day when I was planning number 2 - NEVER!!

Euan is now 6 months, still not on proper scoff. Much prefers booby, as the baby rice stuff gave him constipation. He can roll over and sit up with support. He loves standing up though. Sleep is variable, mostly due to teething. He was doing so well at 16 weeks (either sleeping through or waking once for boob), but now he's up 2-3 times. Ah well, par for the course I presume!

I'm now having to consider what I'll do next but I feel upset at the thought of leaving him in nursery. Maybe I'll feel differently when he's 1 year (hopefully!)

go to go, he's awake again

Suzanne - welcome. About the bottle, there are 2 approaches, one is to offer water instead of a bottle. A lot of babies just give up in disgust. The other option is to just refuse and do controlled crying. I chose the first approach as my DS is a PIG (and that's putting it kindly). I had to stop feeding him at night when he was three months old because of out of control weight gain (he is well over the 100th centile). The first night I gave him water (with a little demerara sugar in it - sshhh dont tell anybody I said that). Second night I just went in and put his dummy back in over and over again. Third night he woke but went straight back to sleep with his dummy - fourth night he grumbled, then gave up and went back to sleep. Hey presto, no more night feeds and much more structure in the day. HTH.

Highlander - nice to hear from you. Glad Euan is doing well. I am not planning on going back to work this time, but I do remember it being a painful process with DS1. Hope that you manage to find a solution that suits you.

suzanne, my DS still takes at least one big feed during the night, more if he's been upset or not feeding too well during the day. I guess it depends how you feel, but I go with the flow for night-time wakings. Your baby's sleep patterns don't settle out until they're approx 40 weeks old. If he/she is high intensity then controlled crying will probably not work, although I hear it's easier with bottle-fed babes. A good book for the gentle approach is Liz Pantley's 'No Cry Sleep Solutions'.

sorry for short reply, have DS looking longingly at me on the bed!

hi anyone mind if i join? ds is also a sept 2004 baby!

she's great, she is almost 6 months now, and weighs 16lbs. She has just started teething and has 2 botom teeth poking through - they are very sharp as i found out this morning....!

she has slept through the night since day one, which i know makes me very lucky! however she was sleeping in til 9am but has recently started waking at 6/7am.

janx i have the same problem as you that she is refusing day time naps and being very cranky int eh evenings at the moment which is driving me mad!

other than that she is a very happy, easily amused baby, she isnt doig anything like pulling herself up/rolling over, which i think she should be doing by now going off the rest of this thread! but i suppose all babies are different.

have been trying to wean her since 4 months but she not really all that interested in food, but we're still plodding on!

have just started back at work after an 8 month break and finding it very hard to leave her (even if it is with dp!!)
