Apologies if anyone has started this - I can't see one anywhere. Thought we could all meet up here to discuss our newborn darlings.
My little man is doing well - this is day five (I think!). He is feeding well but my nipples are sore - am sure my latch is OK but I suppose it can't be. MW comes tomorrow so will ask her. He's got lots of wet and dirty nappies so milk must be going down OK. He feeds lots in the day and then about 3 times between 8pm-8am. Slept from 2.30am to 8am today. Feeling proud of self as managed trip to playgrund this morning with him in sling and dd in buggy. Managed a 45 min play and about 30 min walk and he slept the whole time. It's as scary going out the first time with him as it was with dd!

Anyway, will stop whittering! Had a few tears (mine) yesterday as I was looking at him and thinking how lucky I am to have two lovely children. Couldn't stop crying. Hormones, hey?
How are the rest of you doing? Wonder who'll be next to pop? Highlander has her section on Monday, I think.....

Hi all,

Sorry to hear you are having a hard time Jacksmum - I had PND first time round so I can totally sympathise with your situation. Hopefully you will be able to take the AD's - they really do help.

We are well - off to the Lake District for a four day break before we finally leave the sunny shores of england on 1st November. I am so looking forward to it - have packed up the car and will be leaving early. Hopefully the baby will not disrupt DS1 too much as we will be sharing a room but he seems to have slotted into one feed around 3am which he generally takes quite quickly (holding thumbs that it continues).

Tate is growing nicely 10lb12 at last weigh-in, still guzzling like mad but seems more settled on the hungry baby formula. DS1 has had slapped cheek disease so hoping that the baby wont get it... ho hum

Glad things are getting a bit easier Dinny!

Hang in there Littlemel [sympathetic emoticon]

Thanks for the advice dinny. Glad you are feeling a lot better. Does infacol work? Have tried gripe water but she just spits it out!!

Crying is still continuing - and she has stopped drinking as much milk (am bottlefeeding) this last week - was taking 5floz each feed, now between 2.5-3.5 floz which is worrying me a bit. Am seeing the HV on monday though so I will ask her advice.

dejags - hope you have a nice time in the lakes!

We are not doing well here folks.... October 2004 thread is about to overtake us!!

Feeling much better now - not had a bad day for a nearly a week . HV today agreed it could be due to extreme tiredness rather than PND so we have agreed to see how I go rather than jump on the AD wagon.

ds1 is almost 7 weeks and weighed in today at a respectable 9lb 11oz - he is now is ds1's "first" babygrows!!

Littlemel - how are you getting on? Have you spoken to the HV? Hope things are getting better for you.

dinny · 19/10/2004 22:08

Littlemel, I found Infacol did help dd - it has a cumulative effect, so you have to use it over time. Worth trying.

Jacksmum, glad you are feeling a bit better. DS is smiling all the time now - he's so cute (except when he's screeching!)

Where is everyone else?

Popping in from Aug thread!!!

Littlemel, sounds just like my DD2, she took less and less milk, kept crying when we put the bottle nr her, and dropprd on centiles. Because of this, HV referred us to GP, nothing apparently wrong, she suggested an osteopath. It isn't cheap, but it was amazing, and DD2 is so much better after 4 sessions. We had tried all the colic remedies, but nothing worked. It may have been a coincidence and she may have just outgrown it anyway, but I think it worked!!

Hi everyone, keep meaning to write but somehow never manage... DS2 is lovely ...... but I think I'd completely forgotten what it was like to have a newborn (well 1 month old!)... and this time round with a 3.5 year old DS too! DS2 does cry a lot however and does not want to sleep, unlike his mum!

Dinny, he sounds a bit like how your little man was at first - if not feeding than crying (mostly) - I am hoping he will settle down eventually. Luckily DS1 loves him to bits although he does get a bit overenthusiatic at times with the cuddles and kisses.

Apart from that the breastfeeding is going pretty well. I am still a bit sore but it is getting a lot better. I am really pleased about this as the first time round I didn't manage to b/f. This was partly, well in fact mostly due to not much help after the birth and lack of information (my fault for thinking it would be easier than it actually was) and everyone telling me to give the baby a bottle of formula because he hadn't had anything to drink in hours/a day etc and the baby not showing much interest in latching on. This time I was shown properly, DS2 was put to the breast within 20 mins of the birth and not to worry because he was being nourished etc and on the whole it was a much more positive experience!

Hope everyone else is doing ok?

well have tried infacol and it seems to be working, so far! although saying that she is screaming her head off at the moment and nothing me or dp can do will calm her down. she not hungry/wet/thirsty and is being cuddled so dont know whats up with her, she not pulling her legs into her tummy so dont think its a colic cry??!!

she has also had a horrible spotty red rash all over her face for the last week - hv said its common, but it doesnt look very nice!!

she know weighs 8lb 15oz! starting to look chubby and very cute with it!

i still cant believe im a mum - its such a strange feeling.

how is everyone else going on? glad your feeling better jacksmum

oh, I feel human again Hmm, maybe I'm tempting fate!

DS was really running me down, screaming for hours, for no reason, thrashing about during feeds. I must have lost a ton fluid from all the tears I'veshed in the last week.

Anyway, HV said he was showing classic 'colicky' tendancies and put me onto the Harvey Karp book - my God what a difference! Lots of sleep now and lots of smiles!

dinny · 23/10/2004 06:50

just read that book, hihglander. ds keeps getting arms out when trying to swaddle him though. plus he is starting to suck his thumb so i want to encourage that.
dd is being a nightmare - won't go to bed/really twitchy etc.
littlemel, is your dd tired? sounds like typical overtired signs. try getting her to sleep 1.5 hours after she last woke? MUCH easier said than done, i know! xx

Dinny, apparently there's a blanket called the Miracle Blanket (or something) that has special arm lock bits. My DS is also a houdini at escaping! I've had to cut up a sheet 50 inches square so that I can wrap it around him a few times! Wee monkey........

Hello.. how is everyone doing now?

ds2 is starting to show signs of routine - wake at 7am, sleep at 9am etc... we still have a crying spell before bed but I'm learning to feed, change, swaddle and then rock in the crib (hope I am not setting myself up for trouble later on...) and this seems to help. I do have a problem though.... the slightest noise during the day wakes him and he hates sleeping in a pram... - elimination of noise isn't possible with a 2 year old and I can't put him to sleep in his crib/cot all the time - we would never get out!!

We all went swimming today - ds2 seemed to enjoy the water though he was a bit shocked at first!!

Hope everyone is ok

Hi everyone. We are doing OK except dd has been poorly and is having so many tantrums. She seems so unhappy that we have a baby. Feel awful for her. DS doing well - had him weighed yesterday and he's 13lbs. He's 8 weeks old on Tuesday so will have to book vaccinations. Scary. Still in absolutely no routine. He's still in our bed and helping himself to milk all night.
Dejas must be in the process of moving to SA now. Hope it's going well.

DS's passport is FINALLY sorted out; we had to go for a Canadian one in the end as getting a UK one when you're resident overseas takes months. Yahoo, we're flying home for a holiday in a couple of weeks. But not looking FW to the journey - 17 hours door to door. Just hope DS doesn't notice that we're in a plane or get earache from the change in cabin pressure.

Sorry about your DD Dinny; hope she gets used to her wee brother soon Excelklent weight gain! My DS weighed 11lb5oz this week (6 wks) so sounds like he's about your DS's size. I've put him into size 2 nappies already - only seems like yesterday that that newborn size was too big! (couldn't get the preemie size here so he kept pissing out the sides, the wee pet!)

DS has started smiling when I smile at him. Crikey, it just makes me melt!

Report
jacksmumto1 · 31/10/2004 19:14

Those smiles are gorgeous aren't they?! Ds2 loves bathtime and is full of smiles when lying on the floor whilst I get him ready

When on the plane - try either bf or give a bottle (can't remember which you are doing) during take-off and landing - the sucking motion will help equalise the pressure in the middle ear and therefore will help stop any earache from occuring.

Hope you have a good holiday!!

ds2 was waking every 1-2 hours through last night - I am whacked; especially as ds1 wouldn't let me have a lie-in and dh had just got home from nightshift but had to be up and ready for work again in 5 hours so he couldn't give me a rest either.... [tired emoticon]

off to bed... yawn!!

Hi ya mummys! my ds Jack is driving me crazy hes 8 weeks today and has decided he will only sleep in my bed or car seat even though hes got a cot, moses basket and crib. hes also decided he can only be happy and quiet if hes being held and insists on screaming if hes put down, argh i think im going crazy the amount i have cried this morning is unbelievable! please tell me im not the only one!

costamum · 10/11/2004 16:10

Hi Charleepeters,no you're not alone!!! My DS seems to do the same - he's currently sleeping on DH at the moment so that I have a few minutes to do a couple of things apart from sit on the sofa with him all day! I can't believe how whenever I think he's sound asleep and put him down in the cot etc he suddenly wakes up crying and the only way to calm him down is to pick him up! Its amazing, don't know how they do it! They learn quickly!

your not the onyl one charleepeters, dont worry!!

dd 11 weeks old now - sleeps from 10pm til 9am without waking once!! i believe this is good as people seem shocked when i tell them? she is still feeding every 3 hours during the day, 6fl oz. And she is still having screaming fits most of the evenings - which i think is why she is sleeping so well as she is exhausting herself!!

she weighed 11lbs 6oz last week, and has been putting on average of 9-10lbs each week!!

hope veryone else is ok?!!

Hi all, sorry to hear your dd not been well, Podmog. My dd has suddenly developed ezcema (at 2.5) for the first time. So sad. Hope it's just a blip...
ds is lovely and smiley nowadays - he is 12 weeks and weighs 15lb 2oz. Glugging his milk. He goes to bed at 7pm then comes in with me at about 12 and helps himself to milk all night long.

returned from a trip home to Ireland to introduce DS to the ILs. God, it was knackering. I'm still exhausted, even though DS breezed through all the travelling. In 2 weeks we did 2 long haul flights and 4 short haul, 1X 6 hour and 1X 2 hour car journeys.

DS is an angel during the day now - very interested in the world now that he can sit up in his bouncy chair.

However, although he's sleeping from 6-ish until midnight and then 1am-3am, he's awake more or less until 6am. Not wide awake but very grizzly and unsettled. Keeps waking up after I've put him down. Won't tolerate being in bed with me - I thouight babies were supposed to love that?

DH is having a major strop as I've moved into Ds's room. It's much easier on me when he's waking so much - especially when I'm still recovering after the trip. DH, of course, refuses to acknowledge what a huge strain the whole journey has been (I didn't want to go when DS was still BF quite frequently). Selfish wanker.

Ah yes, back to my usual grumpy self....

DS is fabby (if somewhat enormous now!). He gurgles a lot, and his favourite expression is 'ah goo'. He's pretty funny, if you say 'ah goo' to him he repeats it back then laughs. Sadly, after the flight, he's now got a bit of a TV fixation so we can't have it on when he's in the room or just sits and stares at it blankly!

Hi, Highlander. You must be knackered after your epic journey. Shame your bub isn't into bed sharing - my dd was a bit like that (just twitched the whole time, always preferred her own sleeping space). Ds loves it (thank God, it's the only thing that means I'm not totally knackered). Am VERY jealous to read you are like a rake already! I feel like such a great fatso still - did put on shitloads of weight this time so suppose have lost a lot but still feel massive. Want to wear all my nice clothes. GRRRRRR.
