Apologies if anyone has started this - I can't see one anywhere. Thought we could all meet up here to discuss our newborn darlings.
My little man is doing well - this is day five (I think!). He is feeding well but my nipples are sore - am sure my latch is OK but I suppose it can't be. MW comes tomorrow so will ask her. He's got lots of wet and dirty nappies so milk must be going down OK. He feeds lots in the day and then about 3 times between 8pm-8am. Slept from 2.30am to 8am today. Feeling proud of self as managed trip to playgrund this morning with him in sling and dd in buggy. Managed a 45 min play and about 30 min walk and he slept the whole time. It's as scary going out the first time with him as it was with dd!

Anyway, will stop whittering! Had a few tears (mine) yesterday as I was looking at him and thinking how lucky I am to have two lovely children. Couldn't stop crying. Hormones, hey?
How are the rest of you doing? Wonder who'll be next to pop? Highlander has her section on Monday, I think.....

Where is everybody? This is really one of the quietest threads around..

here is our update:

DS2 is 7months old now - he is finally sleeping through the night regularly. My definition of this is going to bed at 7pm and not being heard from again until at least 6.30am the following morning.

We are very nearly crawling - I thought he was going to start a while ago but he still hasn't quite mastered it.

Still no teeth - DS1 was a late teether so Tate will probably be the same.

And on the weight side of things we still have one of the portlier babies in the neighbourhood - DS is tipping the scales at 27.5lbs. He loves his food but doesn't have a huge amount of milk - only a 3oz bottle in the morning and a 7oz bottle before bed.

Anyway hope you are all well.

Hello everyone, I thought I'd check out this thread again after a hectic couple of months starting work again. I guess everyones busy at the moment with their september babes.

Fogive me please for this gushy mummy bit but DS is absolutely gorgeous at the moment. This week he's finally learnt to sit up unaided. He's been lolling about for weeks but has finally realised its much more fun to sit up and reach out for things. He's also developed the most awful whine when he can't reach things, DH can't stand it but I can still forgive him anything. He also seems to be going through a really snuggly phase too and loves nothing better than to bury his face in my neck, chest, hand or any other bit of me he can get to. He's eating like a trooper, 3 meals a day and still a full compliment of milk and he's putting on weight just as he should be. He's finding his voice too and every day there seems to be a different sound. He amazed us both recently as he seems to have grasped the concept of making an echo! We have an alleyway under our house and he loves to make lots of little squeaks and noises when we walk through.

We're thinking about upgrading him to a forward facing car seat soon as he's nearly 20 pounds but we're getting mixed reactions, some people are saying do it, they're just as safe these days, others are saying leave him in the rear facing seat as long as poss. Any thoughts?

Come on, how's everyone else doing ....

Hi everyone - sorry I haven't been in touch - feeling very tired and no energy to do much....

ds is just over 7mths now, sitting up well but does topple over(!) - he is grabbing everything in sight and desperate to move but hasn't quite worked out what he has to do! Still think it will be a while before he crawls (though having said that ds1 crawled out of the blue at 7 1/2mths so it's possible!) Am finding ds a bit of a fussy eater - I offer pretty much everything we have and sometimes he will eat savoury stuff and other times there is no way he is eating it (even if he has eaten it before)... prefers sweet stuff without a doubt!! Doesn't feed himself much - he can but I think he is lazy(!) - just have to keep giving him stuff to "play" with I guess. Up until 3 nights ago... I was still being woken up 2-3 times a night for a feed - now only once - [praying icon] please don't go backwards..please..I need my sleep!! Apart from this.. ds is a very easy-going baby, full of giggles, happy to entertain himself for short periods but also loves to sit and 'play' with big bro!

Pheebe - tbh, I would leave him rear-facing for as long as possible. I seem to recall from all the threads I have read thatt it is much safer for them to be rear-facing than forward... We changed ds1 from a carry-tot type of seat to a proper seat at abuot 7mths as he seemed so cramped and uncomfortable in the smaller seat but we still kept him rear-facing (one of those birth to 4yrs seats) for safety until he was around the 9mths mark and way over the weight guide. There is lots of info here www.childcarseats.org.uk/ But at the end of the day - you have to do what you think is right for your child... Sorry didn't mean to go on....!

how is everyone else?

hello

pheobe i was thinking the same about car seats, as dd is getting too big for her carry cot one now, but wasnt sure what to do?!

dd now 7 months old - have progressed well with the food - she has 4 meals a day, 8oz milk plus cereal in the morning, a bit of solid followed by 7oz milk for lunch, same at tea time, and then 9oz at bedtime. she isnt fussy and eats anything, as long as it has no lumps. however it is becoming a bit of a battle at meal times to get her to concentrate as she is too esaily distracted and VERY fidgety so she wriggles all over the place!

she can sit up if you hold her hands, but leans too far forward on her own. No sign of rolling/sitting up alone and certianly no sign of crawling! i think she is a bit slow compared to some of the babies who seem to be raring to go on this thread!!

fairycakes · 08/05/2005 21:49

this thread is very quiet.....

dd discovered the joys of rolling on thursday and hasnt stopped since - nightmare at bedtime! she HAD been sleeping throught the night, but that has all changed now and she no longer likes to sleep...great!

can sit up really well unaided, although does fall over now and then. trying to crawl, but cant get her head around the fact you have to do the legs AND the arms at the same time. very cute watching her...

hows everyone else getting on?

Ooh, hadn't seen this. Hi everyone, hope you're all well. ned is 8 months old yesterday and like a hurrucane. been crawling for a while (since just over six months, the little sod) and is now pulling himself up onto everything in sight. he just wants to chase his big sister round! I'm back to work in two month's time - quite looking forward to reclaiming some of the "old me".
btw, he still feeds 45 times a night (helps himself in our bed - dh trying to put a stop to it though) !!

ps - also trying lumpy food, but not having mych joy - anyone else having this problem??

Report
highlander · 09/05/2005 02:41

we're sort of on lumpy food; I just don't puree it so thoroughly. Lumpy cooked fruit isn't a problem but DS just spits out really lumpy meat with a look of disdain! Nappies not too bad on the smell front

Today I'm proud to announce that he can shuffle backwards on his bum Absolutely no sign of crawling; he can roll over and push himself up on his hands or push his bum up but not both!!

Sleep.........hmmmm. Some nights good, most nights up 3-4 times. Stopping night feeding results in constipation, so looks like it may continue for a while!

Hi all,

nice to you see you all. Tate is well. He started crawling a while ago and has now mastered pulling himself to standing and is in the process of mastering cruising. Another early walker I fear .

Otherwise, he still eats everything in sight. This is no exaggeration, I have not found a single thing he doesn't like. He has everything chopped or roughly mashed. We call him the rat pellet boy - he'd eat them if they were on offer . He hardly has milk anymore though - just one bottle at bedtime, so finally he is starting to slim down a little.

Little bugger is cr@p when it comes to sleeping. Has us up anywhere between 3-7 times a night. Last night I was just about to start controlled crying and he slept right through for the first time (he must have heard my threats to leave him to cry through the bedroom wall when I was talking to DH).

Glad to hear you are all well.

dejags, do you just give Tate the same meals as you?

Report
dejags · 11/05/2005 19:29

Pretty much Highlander. Obviously I take his out before adding salt/sugar. He loves eggs on toast, baked potatoes with cheese and beans and most of all Sunday Roast dinner - chicken or lamb with a roast potato and veg.

He has eaten olives, loves gherkins (??). The only thing he doesnt really like are jars, but if its all thats on offer he'll scoff it.

Little piggy , makes change from our first though - he wouldn't eat lumpy food until 18 months old and only started eating rice when he was 3!!

Hi Dejags and Highlander - really nice to hear from you . Ned is constantly standing up, little blighter - think he will walk early too. Moving so much quicker than dd did - definitely because a. he's a 2nd child and b. he's a mischievous boy . Dejags, interesting to read that Tate has cut down on milk a lot - Ned rapidly cutting his daytime feeds (MUCH too busy to bother!). How are those bitchy SA women then? Hope you have made some nice friends.
Highlander - where are you moving to in UK then?

Hi All,

Am new to mumsnet, my little man Ben was born on the 30th September 2004 so thought that this thread was a good place to start, if only I knew back then that this site existed!

Have been having fun and games with introducing new foods to Ben over the last couple of weeks... Not so keen on fish, but will eat my banana and mango smoothies until the cows come home! Really struggle with certain savoury foods though.

Ben is not crawling in the slighted either, just wriggling, lots! He has also discovered the ability to scream at everything, this is quite cute at first, but not so cute when doing the weeky shop.

I also went back to work 5 weeks ago part time to a new job and am luckily really enjoying it, my DH looks after Ben in the mornings and I get to spend all afternoon with him, I do come home to find that DH has put Ben in some strange clothes though!?! Odd socks etc... hmmm

Anyway, look forward to chatting with you all.

Amy x
