DD1 was a shit sleeper and then the sleep regression id never heard of... bad times!

I can park it. Just about. But it’s so big and it’s an automatic so so different. But lovely to have lots of room and a big boot!

Yakadee · 18/04/2019 13:51

Emma is doing pretty well sleep wise. She's great at getting to sleep by herself. She's still downstairs for naps at the moment (god knows how as my son is so loud!) as we're moving next week so not really anywhere upstairs for her to go. Once we're in though I'll be putting her upstairs. Another one here with a camera and sensor pad which is very reassuring.

She seems to be in a pattern of two decent sleeps in the day time. She seems to have one morning and one afternoon and then odd snooze in between.

It's my son that's the problem at the moment. Seems to be waking in the night for some reason? He used to do 7-6 no probs?

When does the first sleep regression happen? X

maxiflump1 · 18/04/2019 14:27

Our sleep seems to have settled a bit now. Max is doing 5/6 hour stretches at nice which is lovely. We are also generally out during day but have a quite few days now so going to try and put him in his cot for daytime naps.

@Yakadee it's a 4 month sleep regression so we've got a few weeks to make the most of it. But it's because they're becoming more engaging and starting to grasp things which is always so cute. My 4 year old keeps waving toys in front of Max's face in the hope he will grab onto it!

powkin · 18/04/2019 14:52

Do people generally put their babies back in their cribs for naps? She is ok at going down with a lot of (settling for the first sleep) at night but during the day it’s either sling or occasionally she’ll nap in her pram. If she’s not very sleepy she HATES her crib (I think partly the quietness, she is never happier than in a noisy place!). I was wondering about getting something for her to nap in downstairs, the bouncer we got is much more like a chair and way more upright than I hoped, so would welcome any recommendations.

Yakadee · 18/04/2019 15:34

@maxiflump1 - I'll be nicely moved in my then at least! Do they ever miss them? Haha.

I've noticed she's trying to aim at stuff, she managing to knock things but she hasn't grabbed anything yet. She's started laughing though and cooing which is amazing! 😍

@powkin - I do put Emma in her moses basket when she's napping in the day. We have a small cot in our room so she sleeps in that at night. She seems to like her moses basket but they do take up a bit of room x

lanalawr · 18/04/2019 19:27

Ds either goes to sleep in our arms or the sling. If we're out then he'll sleep in the car seat or pram. He's rubbish at being put down in the day so often does the whole nap in arms. Dd was the same, although they'd both be put in their crib asleep at night. We chose not to sleep train dd and plan to do the same for ds. It does mean that one of us needs to be with dd (2.9) until she's asleep. She's more independent with it now but has come to that herself.

Yakadee · 18/04/2019 21:25

Does anyone know what this is? I noticed a little mark on Emma's back early March but didn't think much of it. Yesterday, when I was bathing her, I noticed this. It's in the middle of her back. Feels like a spot but looks bruised? She can't possibly have a bruise (full stop) here? It's but like I'd hold her here, or that she could have knocked somewhere like that on anything?

Anyone any ideas, it's freaked me out a bit! X

Oh god I'm not even thinking about a day time nap routine! I didn't with DS1 until he was much older, I persevered with getting him into a nap routine in his cot when he was about 6 months and he was then a brilliant napper. He was self settling at night though which probably helped, and it did take some work!

DS2 seems happier to be on his own in his bouncer etc for longer than DS1 was, probably because he's a second child! I'm not in any kind of nap cycle for him, some days he seems to sleep loads, others not much. He's ok ish at sleeping in a Moses etc in the day but I don't know if he'd go down awake in the day time. He does at night sometimes but only if he hasn't fallen asleep on his bottle!

since2016 don't worry about SIDS, the advice to never leave a sleeping baby alone in a room ever is ludicrous and impossible for those of us with two kids. Your DD is EBF, born at term, living in a presumably non smoking household? It's totally fine to leave her with a monitor and pop back at intervals. I do the same.

yakadee no idea sorry, maybe a blister or spot? Weirdly it looks very similar to the mark DS2 had after his lumbar puncture...

Since2016 · 18/04/2019 22:05

Thanks @looking I’m so terrified of another horrific sleeper I’ve been super strict this time - it’s paying dividends tho. Yes non smoking! She did 4 hours today!

mummymummymummummum · 18/04/2019 22:25

@Yakadee Looks like a strawberry mark (haemangioma). They appear a few days/a couple of weeks after birth; sometimes they keep growing for some time. Most tend to shrink and fade from about 2 years old. My eldest had small-ish raised ones on her head, cheek, chin, back and knee, but at 2.9 they're all shrunk and one has gone completely. Unless near the eye they aren't a problem, but see a GP if you're worried x

Yakadee · 18/04/2019 22:29

Thanks everyone. @mummymummymummummum - is that like a birth mark? It didn't appear until around a month after she was born so that could make sense. Just haven't seen anything like it before. She's totally fine in herself otherwise x

mummymummymummummum · 18/04/2019 22:41

@Yakadee Yes, a type of birth mark, though not actually present at birth! As I said, most of the time they're not a problem. My eldest had an ultrasound to look for them on her liver, but that was because she had so many visible on her skin. She has only recently commented on one of them for the first time, she isn't bothered by them at all.

Lookingforadvice123 · 19/04/2019 06:47

On the subject of naps what's the recommended awake time for babies of this age (DS2 is 7+5 weeks), is it 1.5-2 hours max awake time?

How close to bedtime does everyone let their babies nap? I actually feel DS2 would benefit from a late nap but he never seems to wake from his last daytime sleep any later than 7pm (and that's unusual, it's usually much earlier, 5-6pm!) and then he's so tired by his bathtime/bedtime routine (starting around 8:45pm-9pm).

Yakadee · 19/04/2019 06:49

@mummymummymummummum - thank you x

Yakadee · 19/04/2019 06:51

Emma slept from 10:30-6:30am!!!! My son didn't wake me up either! Feel like a new woman! 🎉

Since2016 · 19/04/2019 07:59

We’re only an hour awake max at the mo. And I let her nap until 7 last night and she was horrendous as overtired by 8:30! So sticking with my 60 mins max awake time! Thank you for the reassurance re naps in separate rooms - it’s just impossible otherwise, and she’s definitely exiting the sleeping everywhere stage - my kids don’t like the car either!

bubblybrit · 19/04/2019 15:40

Does anyone else’s little one very rarely nap during the day? She will only nap if I’m cuddling her. The moment I put her in her crib then she wakes up! She is happy to stay in her crib but won’t self settle and just wriggles around awake! She will also nap briefly if I take her out for a walk in her pram. I do these things daily so at least she has a few naps but would be lovely to put her down for a few hours to sleep without much involvement from me.

She is a relatively good sleeper at night (although has her moments) as tends to sleep 11.30-4 and then 5.30-8.

Is this the reason why she isn’t great during the day? Worried that she isn’t getting enough sleep.

powkin · 19/04/2019 17:11

FF ladies - has your period returned yet? I was combi feeding for a month/6 weeks and about 3 weeks ago I thought I was getting one but it was just pain and spotting... I’m 10 weeks now and still nothing and not seeing any recognisable cycle appear yet.

bubblybrit · 19/04/2019 17:38

@powkin. Yes I’ve had one period. It was pretty heavy although not very painful. Not sure when they are expected to return if ff/combi as never asked health professional. However it took 4-5 months for a friend of mine. She queried with the HV and was advised that they wouldn’t be concerned unless 6 months had passed. Obviously this is third hand info so not sure on the accuracy but would hope HV would know!

detachablehoof · 19/04/2019 17:59

@powkin 9 weeks post partum, ff from day one, and no sign of period whatsoever!

Yakadee · 19/04/2019 18:11

Another one who ff from the start. Af returned around 10 weeks for me. It was the lightest I've ever had, didn't even know I was starting until I had! X

powkin · 19/04/2019 18:57

Thanks ladies! Looks like I don’t need to worry just yet, it feels like my body is going through some of the motions and then nothing happens! I’m concerned it might be an issue with iron deficiency but had blood tests this week so will see what they say.

lanalawr · 19/04/2019 19:16

@bubblybrit yes ds wants to sleep when cuddled and wakes when he's put down.

@powkin I ff last time and my period came back at 12 weeks.
