Hello ladies. Hope you are all having a great day.

Anna had her jabs this morning. Poor soul screamed like I’ve never heard before. Luckily she is now snoozing in my arms. Seems happy enough as long as I am holding her.

Aww Emma had hers yesterday. She screamed and went purple but calmed down after a few minutes. She was quite sleepy and subdued but back to her normal self today!

We have jabs on Tuesday - dreading it!

@Celebelly. Anna has been sleepy this afternoon as well. Did Emma take baby calpol 4-6 hours afterwards? The GP gave Anna some prior to her injections and recommended getting baby calpol in order to give her another dose.

@detachablehoof. It’s not nice seeing your little baby upset. Good thing is that they should settle down shortly afterwards. Just need plenty of hugs and I’ve found skin on skin really helpful today.

We got given a prescription for liquid paracetamol so same thing. Emma had three doses 4-6 hours apart.

I'm terrified I'll cry too!

We've just had a total poonami here! Went all the way up the back of his vest and had to dunk him in the bath as wet wipes just weren't going to cut it!! Have put the vest straight in the bin!

My older DS has gone to grandparents for a sleepover tonight: feels so quiet without him!

We've had a few binned vests thanks to poonamis! Sometimes you just look at them and don't know where to start. How do they get it on their feet is what I want to know?!

This is why we don't buy expensive clothes 😂

We had our first ever (with either child) poonami at the weekend! I normally use cloth nappies so it just doesn't happen! I used disposables as we were away visiting family for a long weekend. Not sure they were any easier. Clothes washed and stains came out in the sunshine today ☀️

Question: when do babies stop being a newborn? My eldest has come out in chicken pox, and the NHS website advises to seek advice if you have a newborn.

@Celebelly. Thanks. Anna has had her first dose which has made her a little sleepy! Will be able to give her another dose before bed and then during a feed in the small hours of the morning. Hoping that will make for a good Saturday!

@detachablehoof. Hoping all goes well with the jabs! I found I was too busy trying to comfort Anna to get immediately upset. I felt worse when I got her home and seen her little legs were red and swollen 😬

On subject poonamis. Those who have had jabs beware. The oral dose gives such bad nappies 🤢

@mummymummymummummum first 4 weeks isnt it? As thats when mw hands over care.

@Notquiteagandt MW care ordinarily ends at 10 days here! I've got a HV appointment on Monday, I'll wait and ask then. Unless A gets ill in the meantime.

@mummymummymummummum in ordinary cases yes but if needed or for sick children its a max of 28 days. Thats when your care officially gets handed over and they are no longer your 1st point of call. As babys no longer classed as a newborn.

We had mw out on day 28 and this is what I was told.

Hopefully baby wont get chicken pox. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 heres to your older one having an itch free weekend and getting better too.

@Notquiteagandt That makes sense. My eldest was mostly discharged from MW care before she got home from hospital. But they did still do the Day 1 visit the day after discharged. The HV came the same day.

If it's not unsafe then I think it would be fine for both to have it now. At least I'm not going to need to take lots of time off work!

@Notquiteagandt @mummymummymummummum maybe it differs by area but we were under midwife care until six weeks. Here, they usually discharge at 2-3 weeks but will keep you on much longer if needed. If ds hadn't been back at birthweight at six weeks, we'd have stayed under midwife care for longer. Hv still start coming at 10 days though.

Hope baby isn't feeling too poorly!

Injections were Monday- he was needy which is unlike him probably 2-3 days and the explosive poo's probably lasted 4 days but he loved the rota virus medicine and apparently they allow for spillage so possibly because he gulped the lot! I cried more than him hearing him cry even though OH did the holding! 😭🙈

Also rota virus wise WASH YOUR HANDS every nappy change/wipe of dribble etc!

I was told this as my sister in law actually caught the rotavirus from my nephew having his immunisation for it!

Hey all. I kinda fell off the last thread as life just got too hectic..

Zakariyya had his injections last week and the poor thing was so upset for the first couple hours after but by the evening he was back to his usual self.

On the subject of poonamis we had the worst case a couple days after he’d had his injections and drops for roto-virus when we were visiting DH grandparents and we just had to wash him off in their shower which he hated 😬

Is anyone giving a dummy to their little one? I wasn’t keen but caved tonight as baby A is still struggling a bit after her injections. It has certainly calmed her down but not sure that I want to make a habit of it. Just wondering what the general consensus is? Are dummies bad? Are they ok for limited use? Or am I being silly and should just allow her a dummy when she needs soothed? DH and I are of differing opinions!

@bubblybrit We were really anti dummy with our first. But she ended up with one in NICU. We agreed to it with very good reasons, certainly helped her settle in difficult circumstances (she thought she was starving as we had to stop milk feeds ). She was back on milk feeds a few days later and then exclusively breast fed once tube feeding was no longer required. We said bye bye to nighttime dummy last week with no drama or tears. Our breast fed February baby has a dummy already! We realised that it provides comfort, and is much easier to wean off than sucking a thumb!

We were clear that dummy was only for bedtime and in the car, so not all the time. Though initially it was used during the witching hour as well.
