LOL at nuttygirl and pesha. I wouldn't go as far as saying I love the smell but it's true that the reality of nappies and cleaning up babies is much less icky than it sounded. I left it to dp at the beginning, but feel fine about it now. I confess I'm using disposables and will probably continue to do so this time round, but if I get a second chance I might investigate real nappies. I feel my local council could do more (preferably carrot not stick).

maveta · 28/06/2007 07:53

Okay I´m trying to write as I go this time to keep up (am trying JoMa´s trick of two windows open at once,..)..

68% cloth addicted, very respectable score I think Nice to see you again Bugmum! What stuffables are you using? I´ve only tried fuzzi bunz (and only have 1 so far) but I love it! Don´t know if I´d be so brave as to ONLY have pocket nappies but they are so easy for out and about/grandparents etc. I don´t buy special clothes for cloth nappies, in fact so far he´s worn all normal clothes which has been a pleasant surprise as everyone warned me it would be a problem.

LeakyR - re. same dress size I´m still a size bigger. In and of itself that´s fine, I´m a 12, but I am still longing to wear all my old clothes which are all 10. Waaah. Will I ever wear them again??!

Emmymummy and everyone else with jabs today (Dippy?) - hope they go well..Oh yes and Sophie is very very cute!!

JoMa - sorry to hear that Matthew might be colour blind..do you have to retest on a regular basis or is that it?

Katy44 - glad the jabs went well, leaving shortly for N´s. Don´t have calpol here but the medicine everyone seems to use comes with a dropper which seems handy.

Eca - great to see you again too! Glad Bf-ing has got better for you too and at least you´ve had a diagnosis so hopefully on the way to getting it completely sorted. After going on the other day about it being totally painless my nipples have become quite sensitive again, think N and I have been a bit lazy about his latch so am making a lot more effort to keep taking him off until we get it right. Don´t want to go back there again!

Okay, now I´m feeling really left out re. the doidy cups but can I just clarify when exactly we are supposed to start using them??!

To all those leaky breastfeeders out there - how do you contain it at night?? I HATE HATE HATE wearing a bra at night so for a while have just slept with a small towel over my boobs and that mostly did the job but lately (not sure why) it hasn´t been working so I´m back in a bra. Thing is, my breastpads slip and slide around inside the cups, or if I lie on my side the bra (and pad) might pull around a bit and leave me ´unprotected´. Am so sick of waking up wet!

Mooncup - yes I´ve got about as far as thinking about it but not made the leap yet. I´m sure I will eventually. My little sis has just got one so waiting on her verdict.

Okay well that was a mammoth catch up - I´m off to dry my hair!

liath · 28/06/2007 08:39

Woo-hoo! Ds only fed once last night!!

And it's not raining (yet). Had torrential rain and hail yesterday !

LOL at all the closet mooncup wearers. Am planning to investigate re-usable sanpro - seems daft not to if I use cloth nappies. Haven't had a period yet thank goodness, they were so much heavier after having dd.

JoMa, sorry to hear about M's colour blindness. My Grandfather has it & had a very successful career in the brewing industry (beer being brown however you look at it, I suppose ).

My post-natal doula is coming soon - her last day - she has been fantastic.

WO - the house coat is in the recycling bag in the garage waiting for the next collection - I can easily post it to you !

Katy44 · 28/06/2007 08:40

maveta, good luck for injections. Our night was OK, not the best as he woke at 2 (he'd kicked the covers off) and then at 3 for a feed. After the feed he wanted to play and was not sleepy in the slightest! So I don't think the injections had any long lasting bad effects. I do wear a bra at night, have been stuffing my bra with toilet roll behind the pads! Usually is OK but today had soaked through all of them and my bra was soaking, need to check the bed sheets now
Lol at you lot with the mooncup talk, you bunch of hippies!
JoMa, sorry to hear about M's colour blindness., do you get degrees of it, or are you just are or not iyswim?
Sorry, I can't remember anything else, apart from glad other people will be BLW with me. I'm so excited about it, do you think I should give him a cheesy wotsit now to see what he does??

Katy44 · 28/06/2007 08:41

liath we need to see the picture, you're not getting out of it I'm afraid!
Glad yu had a good night

runnyhabbit · 28/06/2007 08:59

Morning all

Thank you so much for all your well wishes for fil. Dh called in yesterday to find his dad working on a friends car Dh said he's acting like it didn't happen. Didn't want to talk about it, or his injuries at all, so had no chance of discussing going for a CAT scan. Dh is going to chat to his sisters and see if there's anything more they can do.

Have had some really lovely news, my auntie is getting married!! Her dp has wanted to get married for ages, but it took them going to a friends wedding to get things moving. Apparently, my auntie said it was the kind of wedding she'd like. Her dp said would you get married here (the whole thing was a country house) she said yes, and the next thing you know, they've booked it for October this year! - and on a Saturday. So, so, excited for them. They've got a dd (who will be 3 in Sept), who will be bridesmaid, and they've asked if J will be a page boy[proud mummy emoticon]

Doidy cups - could someone please explain? ta very much

Maveta totally with you on leakiness. I HATE wearing a bra at night. (hate wearing anything at night tbh ) Am seriousy thinking about using some "tit tape" to keep the pads in place, and leaving the bra off.

Elkie I get "cabin fever" if I haven't been out. So glad that we kept J in nursery, cos it means I have to get up, and get motivated iyswim.

Joma sorry to hear about M. Oh, and with you on mooncups etc...
We recycle nearly everything in this house (paper, glass, plastic, clothes etc) so I think we've balanced out disposables and tampons And we're getting a composter when the garden is redone this year. Although am interested to know how you measure this carbon footprint thingy.

Sorry if I've missed anyone this was only going to be quick post as I'm taking W to dr at 9.20 (starting with a nasty cough)

"See" you later

xx

Katy44 · 28/06/2007 09:07

Sorry to hear that runny, sounds as though he's denying it ever happened, hope you manage to convince him to look after himself!
Good news about the wedding.
Excellent idea about the breast pads, do you think I could also tape my toilet paper on???

Just had to share my stupidity:

I live in Co. Durham

On the news, just a second ago
"A Co Durham village will have to get used to life out of the media spotlight"

My first thought was that Liam had been kicked out of the BB house.

No, apparently they were talking about someone called Tony...

eca · 28/06/2007 09:19

morning girlies!

woohoo, back 2 days in a row now

Got to dash, off to baby massage. Had a rotten night, not with T, but I'm finding it difficult to sleep panicing about lots of stuff at the mo. I'm beginning to think it's part of the deal of being a mum

T woke up this am with one hand and arm freezing and the rest of him toasty warm. Both arms were out of his growbag, but with sleepsuit on as per usual. Anyone had this/know if I should be worried???

Katy44 · 28/06/2007 09:21

maybe he'd been lying on one?
Why panicking eca?

eca · 28/06/2007 09:24

lol Katy at BB/Tony! Oh dear

re: night leaks. I've been wearing a bra 24/ since my milk came in Boobs just too massive to be allowed out without Tommytippee breast pads seem to keep the leaks in ok. Not very env. friendly though.

eca · 28/06/2007 09:27

lots on over summer. Would be busy without bambino. Then bit of stress with dh's family too. And, on my side, impending first visit to my mum's grave with T next week. Going north to visit family and get bridesmaids dress fitting and havn't been yet.

I'm sure it all will be ok. But I tend to let things swim round my head too much.

Katy44 · 28/06/2007 09:28

can you wear nipple shields (is that the right term) at night?
I also need to wear a bra pretty much all the time, on the odd occasion where i start the night without it, it's bliss!!

eca, my post about D's arm wasn't meant to be patronising, hope it didn't come across like that

Katy44 · 28/06/2007 09:30

x post.
I see, you do seem to have a lot on. Hope evrything ok with dh's family. Hope your visit to your mum's grave goes well.
Where up north?? Anywhere near me?

T even, not D, typing with baby on knee very badly

eca · 28/06/2007 09:40

no not patronising . And not as far north as you. In fact probably classed as midlands, but as far as my family and relationships with the south go anything north of Watford gap is NORTH!

Don't think nipple shields stay on by themselves. Maybe lilypadz would work, but not if you've got alot of leakage iyswim

right, really must go now!

Pesha · 28/06/2007 09:43

Eca - i think babies just dont have very good circulation and are no good at regulating body heat and things so i expect its quite normal. (and sorry thats not very eloquent but my brain doesn't seem to do eloquent at the mo, hopefully you know what i mean!)

Katy lol at your 'stupidity', what does it say for me then that i had to read it 3 times before i realised what you meant

I'm also really excited about the BLW. had never heard of it with the other 2 but when i read it it all makes so much sense, I kept reading bits out to dp who just sat there nodding and grunting and probably wishing id shut the hell up so he could watch the cricket! I always loved the weaning before making all the different purees and things but this just sounds great! Pity we have to wait so long for it BLW is my cloth!!

Do you think i need to get out more?

elkiedee · 28/06/2007 09:54

LOL at Katy, but I think it says more about what the media thinks is important than about you, I'm sure you're not stupid.

I bid for a few extra baby clothes on ebay at the weekend, two lots of sleep suits arrived this morning. They're lovely, good quality, nice designs, freshly washed and in great condition, probably one of my best ever ebay purchases (I'm more used to buying CDs and books and things, this is a first venture into clothes).

Off to get ready for the drop in group now, hope everyone else's day goes well.

Katy44 · 28/06/2007 10:28

elkie, I've just bought 2 sleeping bags off ebay, like you before just books and CDs etc, they should arrive tomorrow and I can't wait!
He definitely needs them as he keeps kicking his covers off and waking.
Pesha, I did the same as you with the BLW, kept reading bits of blog out to DH who didn't get why i was so excited! Think it will please him to have his little boy eating 'proper' food though. I wasn't looking forward to pureeing and mashing - v. lazy!

Katy44 · 28/06/2007 10:29

oh and eca, you southern softies
Not seen lilypadz before, will have to have a look

Bramshott · 28/06/2007 10:36

Nothing to say really but just wanted to pop in and let you know I'm still here! ALl good here - O sleeping, N at nursery, so I'm just heading out into the garden while it's not raining for 5 mins!

geordiemacminx · 28/06/2007 10:37

morning ladies!!!

Can someone explain the whole BLW tome please as I've ever heard of it - never mind know anything about it!!

Pinions · 28/06/2007 10:44

Gawd where to start?

Well DS1 has gone to mums and tots, with dad lol!

Dippy chq is in the post. If poss please can I have a BLUE cup. Any other "boy" colour fine too, anything but the sparkly pink. I once bought DS1 a bright pink cup and have never lived it down. So anything but pink/red.

Nutty at parents comments re cleaning. Ask them the next time they are round that they are welcome to come and dust at mine too if they love it so much!

Maveta I also totally HATE the wet nighties. Have only just started to wear a bra at night and have got to say that I prefer that to waking up totally soaked (not to mention you need a clean nighty every night!), but have got to admit that its not the most comfortable. Not only that though you seem to have more milk cos its means that half of it hasn't leaked out all over the bed. But am with you on that one totally. One of the reasons I want to stop breasteeding.

Liath the flooding (as far as i know) is at the worst here in the north. All I know is that I have never known it to rain so much in all my life and especially not in June. Sheffield, Rotherham, Wakefield and parts of Leeds have been totally flooded and a lot of roads around here have been closed.AND photographic evidence of housecoat please, we don't let you off that easily.

Elkie I always really feel for you when I read your posts, and sorry if that comes across as patronising cos its not meant to. Some of your journeys are 3 different buses PLUS tube PLUS a long walk. Cannot imagine bringing up a child in (centralish?) London.I think that you should go with your plans to move up to not so sunny at the moment Leeds!!!

Joma Am struggling with this one Ellie, so apologies if revert to original name in error. PMSL at pram whore.

SOKL Glad to hear B is improving, also let me know how it goes with the Omega 3, hope that helps too! Always jealous of K sleeping patterns, cos T is nowhere near that stage. (Also why I want him to take to bottles).

Zazas Hi!

Eca hi. don't envy you with a million wedding preparations. I am useless at stuff like that.

Katy - lol at PM. No you're not stupid I would have thought exactly the same as you! Slightly worrying though that we automatically think of things like the BB house over and above major changes in the country/politics.

*As for potty training for boys. The worst of it is when they get hold of their bob the builder toys, especially Roley, leave them for a nano second with no nappy on and hey presto big fat poo being "roleyed" into the carpet. The first thing to hit you when you walk into the room is that familiar smell.

*As for NCT stuff/meetings. Never got round to that kind of stuff first time around and not likely to this time either.

*And lol at all you "lentil weaving tree huggers" PMSL.

NO INTENTIONAL OFFENCE BUT

Reusable sanitary towels? And we call this progress? Ditto with the mooncups but not to the same extent. Two minds whether to post that, but really NO!

Seriously no offence, but NOOOOOOOOOO for me too. No way, no how, not ever.

*Anyway has taken me close to two hours to catch up and post, with MANY sly remarks from DP who for the past 2 hours has been running around clearing up/dressing kids/tidying/general childminding/getting ready for playgroup. Feeling very very guilty now about self indulgence on pc.
All in all much better week with BOTH kiddies this week. IE No playing frogger with the traffic for DS1. Baby now getting to the slighly more interesting stage of "communicating" (hooray). Loads of smiles/chats/cutie faces/noises. BUT still wakes up approx 4 times per night. Still to conquer that one then will be sorted. He is 12 weeks soon so thinking of starting to wean in the next few weeks or so (double hooray!).

Hope to chat later ladies, could sit here all day!

Pesha · 28/06/2007 11:00

GMM - I found this and also this site gave very good clear information and then aitch's BLW blog very good for more details. I think it was katy already linked to aitch's blog but thought I'd do it again as there's been so many messages since!

maveta · 28/06/2007 11:07

well we´re back andit went fine.. he did scream but calmed as soon as i cuddled him (with some help from dummy of course). he´s 11lbs and 60 cms so long and skinny, well i knew THAT already! lol. have given him medicine and he´s falling asleep on me as i type. phew.

had n on the dr´s bench naked and she told me to dress him and then wandered off so i turned to the pram for a sec to get a clean nappy and she gave me a right earful about leaving him and THEN told the dr on me who also told me off grrrrrr... made me feel about 2! he was FINE, i know he isn´t moving enough yet to throw himself off, certainly not in the 3 secs i had my eye off him. or maybe i am a crap mummy already??

like the idea of taping the breastpads on.. hmmm... 101 ways to make me evev MORE attractive to dh... the other day he looked over to me on the couch with my tits out (i was airing them!!) and just shook his head and said..that´s the image i always have of you now. yes folks, the mystery has officially gone. i tried lilypadz at night once but the flow is too strong and i got the lovely sensation of a good build up of milk suddenly pouring down the side of my boob. mmmm.. niiiice. finding them better during the day now though..still feel nervous about relying on them 100%.. best pads i´ve tried yet are lansinoh but need to order online - and they´re EXPENSIVE! but using less now so not as much of a prob.

gro-bags - what togs are you all using? want to get oned but don´t know whether to get .5 or 1 tog.. it´s hot here at night BUT we often have windows open or the fan on so our room can be cool in the wee hours.. l
any advice?

CaptainDippy · 28/06/2007 11:09

Gosh - quite a lot to catch up on - and now I can't remember a thing ....

I know Emmymummy & maveta were taking their bubbas for jabs this AM; so I hope that went ok. I took little P this morning - cried her heart out bless her, but had some Calpol & Boobies & is now sleeping in her crib. Glad it is over ...... for now!!

Doidy cups are special slanted cups designed as an alternative to bottles / sippy cups, I guess - I used one with my DD2 & she was drinking, no problems, from an open top cup from about 12m ish - They are also v.good for babies who have difficulties feeding (won't take bottle etc....) They are eons old and really fab IMHO!!

LOL @ all this Fairy Hammock / Mooncup talk ..... let's weave some lentils, ladies!!

leakyR · 28/06/2007 11:16

Morning

G is sleeping and while I could be doing housework I thought I'd try and catch up.

Maveta - I too have problems with nightime breastpad slippage and leaking. Think I'm too leaky for lilipadz to work at night. Don't be too at same dress size as last June. The dress size is a 14 so still bigger than you!

RE mooncups, i have a friend who raves about hers (obviously in selective company). i have considered them but have not had a period since bub arrived. I've got implanon now so might not have any bleeding for while (fingers crossed).

BLW does look interesting. I can recall looking at that linked site when I was pregnant. DHs cousin and wife in California have been doing it with their LO and it worked really well.

Ellie - I'm sure M's colourblindness won't hold him back in any way. He already sounds like a force to be reckoned with.

Baby poo - I put G in disposables for our day at hospital on Tuesday and he didn't smell like my baby. Think the chemicals they put in them make then smell awful. Like my cloth ones better. Think baby poop only gets offensively smelly when they go onto solids.

G grizzling now. Have a lovely day ladies
