Well i think i was the frist to 'pop' from the due in june thread so i thought it was about time we started the post-natal thread.

DS2 is 2 weeks on monday I had him 4 weeks early due to induction for OC. Everything is going really well and i think things are finally starting to settle down (i hope i haven't just spoken too soon!!)

He is really suffering with colic though and were getting about 4 hours sleep a night on average and with a 2.5 year old there is no chance of catching up in the day, but i shouldn't complain as i'm lucky to have got two wonderful boys. Thats it now NO MORE!!!!!9smile0

I know a few other june mums have had their babies so it would be lovely to hear from you to see how you are all getting on (when you get the chance )

Okay - just in case any of you are up feeding etc?

I don't know if I am imagining things here, or if I am over reacting but - I think I've started having contractions?

Trust me to start when everyone is in bed

I've got the contraction timer on - as they seem to be happening about every 10 - 15 mins at the mo?

I wish I knew if this was for real or not?

bumperlicious · 29/06/2007 03:08

3flights, mine tells me what day she is coming and whether it will be morning or afternoon. Not sure what the etiquette is but you really need to pin them down to a day and at least am or pm!

bumperlicious · 29/06/2007 08:26

This is so hard, I'm so tired and weepy. How can breastfeeding be so difficult, DD cluster feed all morning and evening yesterday, I find it really draining. I've just managed to sleep for 3 or 4 hours but almost feel worse when I wake up. Oh oh, here she comes for another feed...

BadZelda · 29/06/2007 09:13

It does get better bumper - I promise. If it helps then tell yourself you've just got another 4 weeks to go through and she'll be settled down to a routine by then. You're doing great!

bumperlicious · 29/06/2007 09:48

Thanks BZ, I'm just so tired, and so fed up with constant feeding.

BadZelda · 29/06/2007 09:54

When I used to feel like that with Ella, I kept a log in a little notebook of when I was feeding her, and for how long. BF sent me into a weird tired daze - but when I added up all the times, I realised it wasn't as long as it seeemed, and after that it was easier to start to get a pattern established. Might be worth a try?

sputnik · 29/06/2007 10:04

Hi everyone.

For anyone still wondering about jaundice, I was advised by the hospital to put Baby Sputnik in the sun, in the early morning or evening when it's not too hot. I gave him 1/2 an hour that evening around 7 and an hour next morning from 8.30 to 9.30 (there were a few clouds about though) and next day his levels were down. Still looking a bit yellow so maybe will do a few more doses.

Tallulah, sorry you're having a shitty time, mastitis must be awful, hang on in there.

I have been punished for my smug post the other day, as Baby Sputnik was very unhappy yesterday, I think his tummy was really bothering him. Maybe something I ate, as he seems fine today. Couldn't put him down at one point and so pulled out the sling - instant sucess! Bumper has yours arrived yet?

hollyandalice · 29/06/2007 10:11

My little man is still yellow! I'll try the window trick, but there is no actual sun here, so it might not work! The mw told me not to worry too much as he is waking every 2 hours for feeds and to go in if he stops.

1st day on my own today! Going well so far! I've managed to get dd dressed and put some washing on, so I'm doing ok so far! I bet I'll be crying tears of exhaustion by the time dp gets home!

sputnik · 29/06/2007 10:15

That sounds like a good idea BadZ, I find I actually lose track of when I've fed half the time.

Bumper, it's true, it does get better, you are still building up supply. If you're getting lots of full nappies then she is getting enough to eat.

We took Baby Sputnik and DD to the beach yesterday, I think it must've zonked him out as he slept from 2 am til 8, fed and is still asleep, that or he's recovering from his unhappy day yesterday. I'm contemplating waking him as I have a rock-like nork.

sputnik · 29/06/2007 10:23

Forgot you're having a typical British summer, wafting some sun your way....
I think a bit of UV does get through clouds, not windows though so keep it open, as long as it doesn't rain on him

Daisy try this for getting your top button done up: breathe in and inflate your tummy then suck it in as you exhale. You can combine with a pelvic floor if you like. I've been doing this when I remember and it seems to be working, I now look merely fat rather than pg. If you get any pain from your scar though best stop. How's it healing now?

hollyandalice · 29/06/2007 10:39

The weather is a pile of shite! It is freezing and dark and rainy. I have wet sleepsuits hanging all over my house and the washing basket is overflowing, I am choking on laundry!

daisyboo · 29/06/2007 10:42

Holly, it doesn't need to be sunny as such, daylight will help even if its dull daylight (obviously sun is better though).

I've got a really windy growly baby and have had one since yesterday....not much sleep for me last night! After one feed it took me 45 minutes to get the teeniest burp out of her and then she still wouldn't settle. then she gets horrible hiccups, the poor wee mite, I just wiah there was something i could do.

bumper, hang in there babes, it will get better she may be having a wee growth spurt and is stimulating your supply. like sputnik said if she has wet and pooey nappies she's getting enough. babyboo does that refusial thing, usually when she's got wind. try giving her your wee finger to suck.

cheers for the exercise tip sputnik....i've been doing some gentle tummy exercises and am on slimming world from today!

how exciting for dkma....i hopr this is the start of things for her.

daisyboo · 29/06/2007 10:43

holly sounds like you need a tumble drier?

hollyandalice · 29/06/2007 10:48

I have a washer/drier, but it is rubbish. I am loathed to use it because it takes ages to dry things and sometimes when the clothes are nearly dry it will spew up a load of water into the drum and I am back to square one!

God I farking hate that eamonn holmes's wife! She is a slag! Why can't fern be on every day?

Jamantha · 29/06/2007 10:59

Well, serves me right for being so pleased with a good day yesterday. Had a horrible evening - I was really tired from very broken sleep the night before and not having got a nap during the day and ended up arguing with DH including shouting and both getting really upset. Thankfully due to using some formula to let me get to bed a little earlier than I might have done otherwise, and C waking just twice at 2am and 4am, then sleeping through to 8, I got better sleep and feel much refreshed today, so we can try again. And my new motto is that I must remember not to get so grumpy when things aren't just right.

daisyboo · 29/06/2007 11:00

holly, I've got a "baby roo" shorts and t-shirt set for a boy aged 3-6 months.....would you like it for Will? it was bought as a present for a fiends grandson, but i never posted it in time. didn't think it would be much use to anyone else, but will sounds like he might get some use out of it this summer (if we ever see the sun again that is there are matching shoes and a pack of socks too!

daisyboo · 29/06/2007 11:02

jamantha, thats easier said than done really. sorry you had a horrible day. i'm in the middle of one here....dd has a really upset tummy and is inconsolable, so we're doing some skin to skin which is helping a bit!

Jamantha · 29/06/2007 11:32

daisyboo - thanks. And hope that your day improves. Skin to skin sounds lovely, though I'm enjoying the novelty of having myself covered up for a bit at the moment. Felt like I was permanently on show for big chunks of yesterday, including having to whip a boob out to feed a very hungry baby when our elderly male neighbour called in to say hello! I'd not worked up to public feeding yet, but really had no choice. Thankfully he sat on my left on the sofa, and baby was feeding on the right side, so think it wasn't as exposing as it could have been.

daisyboo · 29/06/2007 11:43

at least you've taken the first step jamantha. I had to do it when a male friend was here on sunday, but his wife bf for 8 mo so he knows the drill. still felt odd though.

yeserday i had to feed dd in the back of the car in m&s carpark. i could've gone to their coffee shop as they are bf friendly but we didn't have time. felt a bit exposed, but no-one paid any attention.

try your local NCT for a list of local cafes restuarants etc who are bf friendly to help make the transition a bit easier

bumperlicious · 29/06/2007 12:05

MW has signed us off! Thinks LO is doing really well, putting on weight, and said the same as the rest of you, probably has been trying to build up my supply. Feel a bit calmer now. Back on the spatone at her recommendation too, to help my energy levels.

Right, time for another feed, catch up later xxx

kittykitt · 29/06/2007 12:06

Morning all
Just trying to catch up as i've not been able to get onto the pc for days. Getting wireless this weekend, so hopefully will be able to keep up more from now on!
Really interesting to read everyone's experiences with (lack of) sleep and bf.
Just to quickly say on the subject of jaundice - check with your midwife if it could be bf related. My lo was still jaundiced after 2 weeks so MW sent me to see the GP with her. GP then immediatelt sent me to the hospital for some blood tests (too horrendous to recall - they put a canula into back of poor screaming darling's hand). Blood tests for jaundice showed that it was bf related and would disappear once bf stopped, but nothing to worry about whilst still bf.
One of the blood tests showed that lo had a very high reading on her thyoid so we had to go back for more tests this week. Have been really worried about this as apparently it can cause developmental problems, BUT had results yesterday and all is OK

RE WINDY babies - mine is trumping for Britain, not burping much. I know this has been mentioned before, but is this normal?
She gets really ANGRY as well, turning red with rage until she lets out a few trumps and then calms down again..

Driving - i was driving short distances one week after having her. A case of needs must to escape the noise of the builders and going to a quiet friend's house for some peace..

lilKelBel · 29/06/2007 12:06

daisy try infacol! really helps winding!!!
k x

lilKelBel · 29/06/2007 12:09

kitty how often do you bf? check this out

lactose overload

kittykitt · 29/06/2007 12:12

Thanks lilkel, this has actually been a worry of mine - that she has not been feeding long enough to get the hind milk every time.
It's so difficult when she is on & off the boob constantly.
Think i might take up BZ's idea of keeping a bf diary to establish some kind of pattern

lilKelBel · 29/06/2007 12:15

good luck - my notebook is invaluable to me fwiw!
