Well i think i was the frist to 'pop' from the due in june thread so i thought it was about time we started the post-natal thread.

DS2 is 2 weeks on monday I had him 4 weeks early due to induction for OC. Everything is going really well and i think things are finally starting to settle down (i hope i haven't just spoken too soon!!)

He is really suffering with colic though and were getting about 4 hours sleep a night on average and with a 2.5 year old there is no chance of catching up in the day, but i shouldn't complain as i'm lucky to have got two wonderful boys. Thats it now NO MORE!!!!!9smile0

I know a few other june mums have had their babies so it would be lovely to hear from you to see how you are all getting on (when you get the chance )

hi kittykit...glad your LO is OK and there are no underlying problems!

I think the trumping is perfectly normal. try lying her on her back and bicycling her legs..that usually produces results, but we get the screaming and red face before. I think this will get better as their guts mature.

have those builders not finished yet? you must be getting really fed up with it all!

daisyboo · 29/06/2007 12:30

cheers for that lilkel.....babyboo has most of those symptoms, but i'm pretty sure she's getting enough hindmilk as my boobs are really floppy when she's done. but then again they've never been particularly engorged so i just don't know

one thing it does say is look to your baby for clues they've had enough, not the clock, but then it doesn't say what those clues are babyboo usually takes herself off so i presume thats her saying she's done!

daisyboo · 29/06/2007 12:36

lol, i've just handed dd over to dh for some daddy/daughter skin to skin bonding and she's just pulled out a handful of chest hair.....oops .....now he has some inkling of what its like when she grabs my bruised and tender nipples!

daisyboo · 29/06/2007 12:38

kittykit, the advice on th bf threads is not to get too hung up on watching the clock and to just go with the flow and feed on demand. that article seems to back that up.

lilKelBel · 29/06/2007 13:00

well infacol is def worth a try. it really helps Sienna. I get a burp (several loud ones actually!) within 5-10 minutes. Bliss...

lilKelBel · 29/06/2007 13:03

re wind - one thing that link/article mentions which might make a difference (both FF and BF) is trying to space feeds out more to prevent milk being taken in before the last feed is digested. In that sense a notebook might help to keep track of when feeds are happening. I personally can't remember otherwise!

daisyboo · 29/06/2007 13:10

We've been using infacol Lilkel, and it does help. I think a lot of it is to do with immature gut, and will sort itself out. Meanwhile I'm prepared to try anything, so I'm off to find a cranial osteopath!

Hi everyone,

been catching up..

flightofstairs..I'm in the same situation as you, regarding midwifes they don't call me either and actually said to me when I asked if they could call prior to them coming that 'we presume you will be in for the next 2 weeks' well I wish I could just sit on the sofa, but I also have a dd and life must go on !

Bumper - totally normal still to feel weepy especially if your feeding all the time. My top tip to try and space feeds out and get your lo to feed better at each feed is...to offer one boob , wind , change nappy and then offer the other one. Then take baby out for a nice long walk as long as you can manage to help aid a good sleep, which will hopefully put off feeding until another 3 /3and half hours. This will encourage that next feed to be a proper big one and get you back on track.

Regarding how long is enough on the boob, if you wait for your baby to pull off by himself you can be pretty sure he has reached the hindmilk.

BZ - Great tip about keeping a diary, I do the same and 2 weeks in with help of the diary , baby is in a good routine, I can see when he will next feed/sleep roughly.

riabutterflew · 29/06/2007 14:07

Hi, just caught up. Back later as on own with two of the boys just now...

sputnik · 29/06/2007 15:06

Daisy, I forgot to say earlier I think Angelofthenorth is a brilliant name, and really memorable, you should go for it. You said earlier you were up for a long time in the night with the baby, have you thought about bringing her into bed next to you? I've done that a couple of times with Baby Sputnik when he wouldn't settle, and it worked well, other times he's been happy in the carry cot. I think it's too early to worry about "bad habits" at this stage, just what gets you through the night.

Claire that sounds like great advice. I usually manage 1 side, do the nappy thing then offere the other and no go. Today he took both, and has slept longer between feeds.

Seansgirl · 29/06/2007 15:45

Hi all, have not had time to come on here since DH gone back to work, don't seem to have any time to myself and no laptop as hes taken it with him!

Have been feeling a bit more like more old self and not too weepy. Desperately tired today, but no chance of nap as DD is here this pm.

DS is doing well and has really packed the weight on this week, he maintained his birth weight first week and has now gained 12oz in the last week . He had settled down to 3-4oz every 3 hours but in the last 24 hours hes been really hungry, and feeding smaller amounts but more frequently. He was completely unsettled last night and think I only slept 2-3 hours in total [yawn] He is 2 weeks & 1 day today (and today is my EDD!!) , the MW signed us both off on wednesday and have already had my first HV visit.

Am hoping that tonight he should settled down so I can perhaps get some sleep as I scare myself in the midddle of the night by nodding off whilst rocking him or cuddling him, only for a split second but enough to worry me.

Hope all is well with everyone else will try and catch up later xx

BTW now have my Crowded House tickets! Yay!!!! How sad!!!

sputnik · 29/06/2007 16:08

Hi Seansgirl, glad you're feeling a bit better and DS is doing well.

Doggus just appeared on the AN thread to announce the birth of her baby boy, Arthur, a week ago

nannyjo · 29/06/2007 16:17

Hi all. I've not been on for ages, i'm sure you can all understand why

God this is hard work with two. I'm exhausted but i am enjoying both my boys. DS2 is 7 weeks on monday. He is doing realy well, piling on the weight. Being 4 weeks prem and weighing 6 lb 3 at birth, then losing nearly the full 10 percent in weight. I am so chuffed he is now over 9lb !!!! [shock} He put on 1lb 4oz last week and anothe pound this week.

He is though feeding like mad. I'm breast feeding but he is emptying me completely out then taking 3oz formula on top!!

He also feeds every 2-3 hours still.

I hope evry one else is well and LO's are all feeding and sleeping well (sleep?? whats that i hear you all say )

i think i may move to formula soon though to see if i can get into a bit of a better routine, doing both is too time consuming, it takes an hour nearly to feed from me then i still have to top up and it's not really fair to DS1 who has been excellent at entertaining himself so far bless him.

Is anyone else doing both types of feeding? How are you findin it? Any tips on how to try to find some sort of routine? My DS is a bit older tho i think cos he was so early.

still nothing from catsuitgirl though is there? hope all is well!

Hi SG, glad things are a bit better for you. these hormones are orrible aren't they?

mind you, mine have been much better since having dd, but think that may be the ads helping. how is dd taking to her little brother?

sputnik....I've been sleeping generally with dd on my chest. not sure about having her in the bed as worried dh will squash her! either that or ds sometimes crawls in beside me if dh is away! I've perfected the art of sleeping whilst bf and often wakeup with dd still latched after an hour!

LOL I've achieved nothing today other than have a shower and put a load of washing on!

cranial osteopath is calling me back tomorrow though. might take ds too.....his head was so moulded after he was born that he had a 1/2" deep bruise along his forhead where he got wedged up against my pelvis, and he actually had little horned bits where the plates were overlapping! might solve some of his behaviour ishoos

daisyboo · 29/06/2007 16:23

good to hear frm you nannyjo...sounds like ds is doing really well, but i can see why you're exhausted. can't comment on the mixed feeding, but a few have been doing it. my dd is piling on the weight too and has goe fro 7lb 8 to 8lb 10 in the last 10 days. not really got a routine yet as am feeding on demand, but dh back to work next week so i need to start feeding her to suit the school run/ds bedtime etc from monday!

daisyboo · 29/06/2007 19:09

Holly....are you around?

I've sent you an e-mail!

hollyandalice · 29/06/2007 19:42

Hey daisy, I'm here! Got your email, I'll get it sorted! You want to do another birth announcement don't you ?!

I forgot how hard this bfing thing is. I'm using shields atm, I just can't handle the pain! They should issue G&A for bfing! It's funny how I can push out a 10lb 8oz baby in under 2 hours, but I can't handle the pain of feeding him! I'm going to do some expressing this evening so my poor nips can have a break!

Off to catch up now!

daisyboo · 29/06/2007 19:48

its sorted babes....she has my number!

Jamantha · 29/06/2007 19:52

Better day today. C slept well and fed well. Other than a trip with her to the baby cafe, we didn't do anything other than eat and sleep and feel much better for it. And she didn't freak out about bath night as much as usual either, so that was a bonus.

Jamantha · 29/06/2007 19:54

Meant to say sorry for all those who are finding BF painful. I'm really lucky in that it's not hurting my nipples I guess? (ducks down to avoid the rotten fruit that's likely to be aimed my way right now) So I just wanted to say hats off to you all, I'm finding it tiring enough without adding physical pain into the equation.

daisyboo · 29/06/2007 19:59

jamantha i managed to pour water all over dds face the other day and she nearly choked on the water.,....she pood herself in frght and screamed for 15 mins

I felt really bad!

bumperlicious · 29/06/2007 20:05

Evening all, sorry for the painful nips Holly et al - have you tried savoy cabbage - I am finding it a godsend. Nipples aren't really sore but boobs are quite tender.

We seem to have had an ok day. Trying to get into a routine - not a strict one - but just trying to establish night and day, having a bath, putting her in a warm sleepsuit. So far dd hasn't slept in our bedroom since the first night back as one of us is trying to sleep in bed, and one of us stays in the living room in case she is unsettled, so at least one of us gets a good stint of sleep, the other may get a nap on the sofa. But we seem to be getting 1 4-5 stint in the early hours of the morning. So we are wondering whether to risk all going to bed tonight. DH wants me to get a good night though, so maybe tomorrow...

Hope all is well with you guys. You sound like you are all doing a fantastic job!

Jamantha · 29/06/2007 20:10

Actually the areas on the top of my feet just behind the toes, going across the whole foot are so very very sore, walking is painful. Refloxologist tells me that's the area that corresponds to the breasts, so maybe I'm just getting the pain in my feet not the boobs themselves?

daisyboo · 29/06/2007 21:58

you could fire a gun through PN and AN tonight and not hit anyone

I'm off to bed then!

hollyandalice · 29/06/2007 22:01

Daisy...coooeeee!
