Well i think i was the frist to 'pop' from the due in june thread so i thought it was about time we started the post-natal thread.

DS2 is 2 weeks on monday I had him 4 weeks early due to induction for OC. Everything is going really well and i think things are finally starting to settle down (i hope i haven't just spoken too soon!!)

He is really suffering with colic though and were getting about 4 hours sleep a night on average and with a 2.5 year old there is no chance of catching up in the day, but i shouldn't complain as i'm lucky to have got two wonderful boys. Thats it now NO MORE!!!!!9smile0

I know a few other june mums have had their babies so it would be lovely to hear from you to see how you are all getting on (when you get the chance )

LOL Sputnik....snap

I thought I had it sussed, but no....poor latch again this week and the pain is building again...I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Anyway...nipple shields are at the ready to get me through the night....they are always the hardest!

derlor · 19/06/2007 21:04

Hello, i've been offline due to a computer crash situation on our house but glad to now be back. Just read the last couple of threads and i feel like i've come to the right place......i just posted this on the anti natal thread:
i've been having a shitty time over the past few days - i've got thrush in my norks and feeding is agony - feels like glass i'm leaking instead of milk!! getting great support from DH, MW, HV and BF nurse specialist. However, i'm still really tearful and struggling a bit and feel really disapointed with the fact that i can't just enjoy my baby. i'm determined to keep feeding her and just need to grit my teeth meantime!!
So it seams to be the time for nipple pain all round i currently can't feed from my left side with out crying the pain is so intense - it has been building up over the past week really but i stupidly ignored it and just put it down to early days of feeding and thought it would get better but i would STRONGLY advise DAISY to see your HV and get it treated NOW as believe me it only gets worse!!

daisyboo · 19/06/2007 22:00

Derlor....glad you're back with us, but sorry to hear about the thrush
are you taking anything for it. I spoke to my MW yesterday and she gave me a list of the things I'd need to treat it. The oral drug fluconazole she said isn't indicated in the BMF(?) but that one of the docs at our surgery has done research into it and it is apparebtly ok and recommended by the NCT. she also mentioned canesten cream and something for the LOs mouth. I'm pretty sure its just problems with her latch as I used nipple shields there and i'm relatively pain free. I will keep an eye on it though.

How is your LO otherwise?

Gaargh.....she fed for 30 mins one side and then 20 mins on the other and is trying to tell me she's still hungry....how can this possibly be!

kittykat77 · 19/06/2007 22:24

Hi all,

Just checking in - have a huge pile of ironing but on strike for tonight!

Thanx for the advice for sleeping probs with DS. He is in his own room so early as the first 2 nights he spent in our room he screamed all night unless he was held, so nobody got any sleep, which just isn't an option when our 1 yr old DD is up from 5am! Hence has been evicted into his own room!

Have also tried waking him up in the day more, but completely impossible - if he wants to sleep, he will not wake up for anything! At the moment we are only going into him at feed times during the night, and we have had a few nights where he has slept solidly inbetween the feeds, so hopefully he will settle into his routine!

Hope everyone else is well and managing to get some sleep!

daisyboo · 19/06/2007 22:39

ironing???? wots that then?

NattyThomasandEllen · 19/06/2007 22:50

trace im combination feeding, and Ellen is a PIG! she feeds for around 15mins on both sides on the breast, then downs 4oz of formula before she is satisfied. 1oz does sound like a small amount, however babys often eat very little in first weeks, thomas didnt hardly ever eat until he was 2 weeks so i wouldnt worry hun

will be stopping breast feeding soon, she is just not happy on it, and im disapointed because other than some cracks in my nips early on i have rather enjoyed it.

DH is doing his first night alone tonight, as i declared that 4 weeks was long enough to have had no sleep (ellen feds every hour unless given formula) and i had had ENOUGH!!
so i am sleeping on the sofa tonight

glad to see everyone is ok, check in again soon xxxx

daisyboo · 19/06/2007 22:59

natty...did you move house yet? how was it with bub in tow?

we need more news from you!

charlie999 · 19/06/2007 23:03

Hi everyone

I had the opposite problem to you all last night re sleep. I fed DD 4oz at 7pm and she was quite resless for a couple of hours and dropped off about 9.30. I expected to feed her again around 11, but was so knackered, thought I'd get an hour in before she woke me up again......the next thing I knew it was 3am and I was wide awake and she was still zonked out . It really gave me a fright.

It really bothered me that a 2 week old should have gone 8 hours without food, so I woke her up - she took 2oz and fell asleep on me and woke up and 6.30am.

Blimey, is this normal? Did I do the right thing by waking her? She did spend a large part of the day awake yesterday - perhaps she was just really tired.

Hope you all get some sleep tonight....

derlor · 20/06/2007 10:59

morning all,
oh it's all happening on the anti natal thread looks like 3 labours going on at the moment!!!!! and ANOTHER baby - Ria will be here soon to join us
Daisy glad the nipple shields are working for you - hopefully it's just an attachment thing and not thrush. As far as treatments are concerned, i now have daktarin gel for us both plus cream for me and i also took fluclonizole on Monday so majorly overdosing on all available thrush treatment!!! - just waiting (very impatiently) for it all to start working in today or tomorrow i should feel an improvement. roll on that feed!!!
charlie don't worry about your baby sleeping for longer - they do waken when hungry. my LO's sleep pattern is feed at 10pm, 2am, then she always sleeps till about 8am (sometimes 9!!) she will be 2 weeks tomorrow, as long as she feeds well during the day then all is OK - not ALL babies are up all night, just be greatful for your wonderful sleeping baby and get some sleep while you can - it might not last!!! what is her daytime pattern for feeding like?

daisyboo · 20/06/2007 12:01

charlie....my ds started sleeping from 11pm till 5am when he was only 2 weeks....then he would cluster feed til about 9. wish this little madam would do the same....from putting her down at 11:30, she went 2 hours between feeds and fed for about an hour each time. I'm bloody knackered today.

she managed the most spectacular poo earlier as well......it came out the top of the front of her nappy......very nice. I think dh is putting them on a bit tight!

Jamantha · 20/06/2007 12:25

Hi, can I come and tag on to the June PN thread as well as the July one, seeing as baby Charlotte came along on June 13th, not July 14th as estimated? She's doing OK by the way, and we can notice huge differences in her on a daily basis as she's getting stronger etc.

charlie999 · 20/06/2007 12:26

Hi - thanks for your messages - made me feel a lot better - perhaps I shall just leave her to sleep tonight - again last night she was fed at 7pm and at midnight I woke her and again she only took 2oz and then slept till 5am. She was difficult to wake up at midnight and can only assume she was in a deep sleep - so tonight I shall go to bed at a reasonable time and just see what happens....

During the day, she goes by the book - 4oz every 4-5 hours,a bit of awake time and a couple of hours sleep. She'll be 3 weeks old on Saturday.....

Perhaps I should count my blessings for a good baby - at the moment anyway!

All the poo's sound like fun Daisy (especially escaping from the nappy!!) - I'm lucky if I see one a day from DD

Right, back to RL - piles of washing / dinner / health visitor visit etc this afternoon

daisyboo · 20/06/2007 12:28

Hi again Jamantha

My DD is the same, she's only 2 weeks and is already staying awake for small periods without wanting to feed or scream. I'd forgotten how quickly they grow as well. One of her newborn babygros is too small already!

Had a crap night last night and am still in my pjs as a result...should really get myself showered and dressed, but just want to snooze on the sofa. Thankfully DH is here so I still have that luxury!

daisyboo · 20/06/2007 12:30

Charlie, as long as she is weeing and pooing regularly and is growing, and unless there's no medical reason to wake her for feeds (like jaundice) I would just leave her to it. You could mention it to the HV if you're at all worried.

Jamantha · 20/06/2007 12:47

daisyboo, sorry misread your post there, brain omitted the word night from "had a crap night last night" and wondered why you were telling us that and why it meant you were still in your pjs.

We had a traumatic moment in the night when I realised that mis-communication meant that the bottle I thought was sterilised and had used for feeding expressed milk, wasn't actually sterilised. But NHS direct told me it was unlikely to be a huge problem as a one off but to watch for signs of vimiting, fever or abnormal poos. Thankfully she seems totally fine, but we'll be a bit more careful in our communications in future.

daisyboo · 20/06/2007 13:01

Hi jamamtha.....I wouldn't worry about it too much...there's loads of stuff on here about how sterilising isn't actually necessary and there was one thread I was reading that said that one woman who had preemie twins hadn't sterilised ads they hadn't done so in the scbu. I'll try to find it for you.

I know lilkel just uses her dishwasher, but i read somewhere as well that cleaning in the hottest water yu can then allowing to air dry was ok too.

I've been doing that with my nipple shields as it seemed like too much of a faff to use the steriliser for two nipple shields.

daisyboo · 20/06/2007 13:02

lol at the misread message....we june girls just like to share

lilKelBel · 20/06/2007 14:03

Trace - my girl was only taking 1oz at a time for the first week or so. Just keep offering more and eventually it will start going...

Re nork pain - can't help but say to you girls suffering with it really badly "it's really OK to bottle feed!!!" Honestly there is no prize for the mum who breast feeds the most...

Anyone else considering moving their new baby into an older child's room? Any special plan of attack, if so? We've only a 2bed house so must move S into a cot in DS' room when she outgrows her moses basket (no space for her cot in our room). I'm afraid of putting her in there too soon though - hope she can stay in her basket till she can stop screaming so much in her sleep (wind pain).

lilKelBel · 20/06/2007 14:12

Whoops forgot hi to Jamantha & welcome to the circus! Yeah sterilising is so not necessary. Unless you live in a contamination zone i.e. vet office, sewage treatment plant, woolen jumper factory....

Charlie - IMHO I would wake your baby and try to feed them if they are sleeping over 4 hours during the day and over 6 hours at night. You can try a nappy change to wake them up, was foolproof for us with DS and DD. My reasons for waking sleeping baby would be to ensure enough is eaten in a given day, especially if your baby can't take a great deal at once. Also to get them onto a routine of sorts & used to feeding every 3/4 hours during the day and at regular points during the night. Just my preference - I go batty if each day is completely different with random cluster feeds for hours at a time to make up for unpredictable v long naps!

daisyboo · 20/06/2007 14:13

hi lilkel...you've missed all the excitement.....ta is in early labour and bumper has gone to hospital!

my norks aren't too bad....its a positioning thing.....that and she fed for hours last night.....compared to DS she's a walk in the park, so I'm happy at the moment as a rule. If it got bad I wouldn't stress about putting her on a bottle.

I'm now at c-section plus 15.......i'm definately in awe of your resumption of marital relations...nothing is further from my mind at the moment!!

lilKelBel · 20/06/2007 14:17

Hi Daisy! Can't believe I caught you on here

glad your norks aren't so bad. I went through such hell & agony with DS, I vowed never again just for the sake of BF!

sorry I missed the commotion on AN thread. How exciting!!!

Re my precocious attempt at resuming a love life - god I've had to live it down numerous times already ! At the GP, when I got my depo shot from the nurse, at the chemist...if I have to face one more person innocently asking, "well you've not had unprotected sex yet have you?" I'm going to melt from embarrassment! . The nurse had to spend 20 minutes reading the detailed notes of my jab to make sure it was ok for someone to start the shots this early!! But I don't want a 3rd quite yet, so must take precautions!!

daisyboo · 20/06/2007 15:04

sorry kel, wandered off again...though I'd better shower and get out of my pjs as I was really starting to pong....bloody nightsweats.

You've no doubt gone off again! At least you weren't asked did you want to be sterilised when you were on the operating table....or maybe you did!

you "don't want another one just yet".....does that mean you are planning on doing this again sometime

NattyThomasandEllen · 20/06/2007 15:26

Jamantha...
here's that thread on sterilising I was on about hth

kittykat77 · 20/06/2007 20:57

Hi all,
Well after my moaning about DS and his lack of sleeping, he actually went to bed about 12:30, and then didn't wake up until 7am. I'm sure this is a fluke, and probably won't happen again - but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Also no longer have 2 under one - DD is one today! Have had a lovely day, went for a picnic in the park and DS was quite happy sleeping on the rug.

Trace - we had big probs feeding DD - she was bf for about 6 wks, then FF, but she would take an hour and not even drink an oz. Very frustrating, and feels that it will go on for ever. DS is a dream to feed compared to her - he usually drinks between 2 & 3 oz at the mo.
