Well i think i was the frist to 'pop' from the due in june thread so i thought it was about time we started the post-natal thread.

DS2 is 2 weeks on monday I had him 4 weeks early due to induction for OC. Everything is going really well and i think things are finally starting to settle down (i hope i haven't just spoken too soon!!)

He is really suffering with colic though and were getting about 4 hours sleep a night on average and with a 2.5 year old there is no chance of catching up in the day, but i shouldn't complain as i'm lucky to have got two wonderful boys. Thats it now NO MORE!!!!!9smile0

I know a few other june mums have had their babies so it would be lovely to hear from you to see how you are all getting on (when you get the chance )

Apologise for double posting am allowed to use DHs laptop as he has ordrered me on here and find the controls a bit sensitive compared to my regular pc upstairs!

Seansgirl · 25/06/2007 22:41

Right, well I've either missed everyone or I've been sent to coventry for being awol - so I am going to have a bath before little one wants his next feed and the night shifts starts - I am on the first shift and DH is on the second shift much like Lilkels shift. How the hell this is going to work when Dh goes back to work I don't know!

Seansgirl · 25/06/2007 22:43

Oh and also have to go and persuade DH to buy us tickets to see Crowded House in December!!! How 80s!!! Swoon!!

foxybrown · 26/06/2007 07:34

Crowded House?! Have they reformed??

I saw their 'last ever' gig on the steps of the Sydney Opera House. Feel cheated now...

Hello everyone! Just noseying around PN... again.

Seansgirl · 26/06/2007 08:46

Yes they have Foxy! Hooray! There is a new album and single out beginning of July! Am really chuffed as DH has promised to take me to Birmingham NEC 3rd Dec to see them!! Hooray! Although they are one of my all time favs I have never seen them.

Anyway, back on the sleep front last night wasn't too bad. Managed to get Jake to settle at 1.15am until 3.20am he fed and then settled at 4.30am until 6.30am, so managed to get some sleep.

bumperlicious · 26/06/2007 08:53

Sorry to miss you SG, hope you feel a bit better now.

I am going to a bf support group today and have to go by myself as we are expecting a delivery - shitting myself about leaving the house and driving with LO on my own! But DH on standby to come and rescue me if necessary!

bumperlicious · 26/06/2007 08:55

I think the worst thing at the moment is the lack of sleep, it's being woken up before I am ready. After about half an hour I feel fine, but the first half hour after a 2 hour sleep I feel like death warmed up!

BadZelda · 26/06/2007 09:05

Morning everyone...looks like there's no one here though! My cunning plan of sneaking in extra sleeping hours in the evening means I've missed you all...damn.

LilKelBel - have you tried 'nuk' bottles? DD1 would never take any kind of bottle but those - and they might not be as leaky as the Dr Browns? and Pingu...eight to ten times sounds about average to me based on my two - but it only lasts a few weeks and then they settle down. I gave myself 6 weeks with DD1 -and promised that if things hadn't settled down by then we'd switch to FF. In practice she wouldn't ever take any kind of bottle and by about 5 weeks all the discomfort had gone and it was just easier to BF. Am going to start giving matilda some bottles soon just so we don't end up with a bottle refusing baby again as it makes going out a bit challenging. They're all different though as I'm rapidly discovering!

bumperlicious · 26/06/2007 09:07

Hi BZ. Glad you are getting some sleep in! Are you going to be expressing? Do you have any advice, i.e. when to start, how/when to express?

Loving savoy cabbage btw!

BadZelda · 26/06/2007 09:17

Ah - you've discovered the cabbage leaves...who ever would have thought they could provide such bliss eh? I think I'll try and express a bit next week (week 3) though I did find it a major faff with DD1 as I didn't seem to have as much milk as this time. I've invested in a powered pump this time as half of the stress was just sitting there hand-pumping for what seemed like HOURS to get about 3oz out.

BadZelda · 26/06/2007 09:19

bumper if you are going to express, my top tip is try and do it after the first morning feed (when you have most milk) and make sure that you have a good 40 minutes chill time to relax - it won't work that well if you're stressed or feel like you're in a hurry.

RedFraggle · 26/06/2007 09:34

Morning all!

Just popped on to try to catch up with the posts while I wait for the steriliser. I'm going to have to express as Matthew has hardly eaten all night and I have boobs like massive rocks (aaargh).

For those with babies who are suddenly impossible to settle... Matthew had a terrible couple of days over the weekend - turns out he has had a stomach bug/flu thing which DH and I have also now had... Could explain it if your LO's suddenly seem to have turned into the spawn of hell! He is feeling much better now and so is no longer screaming constantly and trying to feed at ALL times!

I am in pre-pregnancy clothes - of the larger variety, I obviously still have the lovely over-hang but it has reduced a lot (I've been doing my tummy exercises) [swot emoticon]. But I know from last time the overhang won't totally go until I can start running again. Midwife reckons 12 weeks after birth for that

daisyboo · 26/06/2007 10:13

RF....did you have a section? If so, how long has it been since your section and what exercises are you doing? I'm scared to do anything at the minute as my scar still hasn't healed properly and I don't want to risk bursting it open any further. I plan to get out walking though, as soon as the weather improves a bit.

DD didn't settle at all last night and slept on top of me from 2:00am. she makes the most alarming grunting noises...I think I've given birth to a bloody bear, not a baby! The noises stop when she is sleeping on me!

Poo looking more normal today so I think the anti-biotics are clearing her system.

hi SG....sorry I missed you last night, but I just had to get to bed before the next onslaught...crowded house....that takes me back a bit, LOL.

Bumper, you sound more upbeat today...except for the sleep deprivation that is! Strangely though, you even get used to that after a week or so. It alwas used to take me ages to get to sleep...now as soon as my head hits the pillow I'm out for the cunt and snoring!

Hi BZ......sounds like things are going well for you. how is Ella enjoying her little sister?

Forgive me if its not a sister...I'm struggling to remember who had what and when and by what means, LOL!!

RedFraggle · 26/06/2007 11:40

Hi Daisy, Yes I had an elective section on the 5th June. My scar is healed up nicely but even before it was you can do gentle pelvic floor exercises and try to imagine pulling your tummy button into your spine. You won't be able to make much movement at first but it is slowly working the muscles.

The other one you can do is to either lay flat on the bed or stand up straight with your feet hip width apart and draw up your pelvic floor then try to pull your two hip bones together. Again, it will feel like you are doing nothing but it does gradually have an effect. If you have any pain stop at once!

If you have a birthing ball there are others you can do too - lost mine in the loft somewhere so I am doing them sitting on the edge of the sofa which is not ideal! If you want more let me know. I had to see a physio after DD so am an expert in fanjo physio now LOL! Then had to go back during pregnancy this time for SPD and they gave me lots for post c-section..

daisyboo · 26/06/2007 12:29

cheers RF.....i need to refer myself back to the physio as my abdominal muscle isn't gping back either.....i feel like a bloody wreck! I suppose I'm just feeling a bit too raw at the moment to do anything.

I've got a wedding on the seventh though....and not a thing to wear except maternity trousers

lilKelBel · 26/06/2007 12:51

Oooh lots of activity! Hello Seansgirl!!! Welcome back! Grab a chair in FF corner and make yourself at home.

Night from hell here. S was up & crying/feeding/screaming from 12:30am till 3:30 then woke up again at 5, 6, 7:15....

Infacol purchased - so far seems to help - actually got 3oz in her within 45min - long may it continue!!

Foxy thx for the Nuk suggestion. They worked a dream for DS - so we tried them for S but she never seemed to latch on to the teat properly. Always making that 'clicky' noise when she lost suction. Was convinced that is how she started getting so much wind in her. The Dr Browns have much softer teats and actually don't leak so much this time (for some reason ), so we'll prob stick with those. I did order some faster teats tho - will see if that helps her stay awake for more than 3 oz!!!

Daisy & RF - don't pelt me with rotten fruit but I seem to have lost my belly apart from a last inch of saggy bit. Am convinced it was the exercises that helped. I got a booklet after my CS in hospital describing them - did you not get one? They are super gentle and done while laying down: 1) breathing deeply with belly going in and out, 2) pelvic floors (groan, I know) 3) pelvic tilts 4) very small crunches just raising your shoulders off the floor

Still wearing my "big" pre-pg clothes though so a bit of work yet to do. Given that I have about 2min a day to think of food now, it should be gone soon! I hope!

lilKelBel · 26/06/2007 12:53

Oops sorry BZ, not Foxy, it was you with the bottles. thx for the thought

daisyboo · 26/06/2007 13:05

I suppose I've still got two weeks Kel, and i seem to have dropped half a stone in the last week, si it is coming off. can't stop eating sugary sweets, so that isn't helping

I'm going to dig out my slimming world stuff and have a concerted effort and I may just get into my cream linen suit with a little help from my spanx!!

derlor · 26/06/2007 16:32

Oh Daisy, sorry for not being around but in answer to your poo question Yes, antibiotics = diarrhoea. should go soon, you finish them today don't you? i remember the glass of wine comment
Hi SG. glad you're back, funny, my DH ordered me back on here a couple of days ago too as he was worried about me and thought i could do with the support form MN. He was right of course and i'm feeling/coping much better now x

daisyboo · 26/06/2007 16:39

hello.....god this looks like i've been lurking all day waiting for someone to talk to! honest guv, i haven't.

cheers derlor...i finished them on saturday but had to wait a few days for wine....it's all lined up in the kitchen for later

i though it was the abs...the poor wee thing has got such a poorly bottom, and she's been feeding non-stop!

flying solo tonight, again, but with ds added in this time. dh off to scotland to take nana home.....did the school run (dd screamed all the way there and back) got through homework, about to do tea, then need to get through bedtime tantrums, a sleepless night and get ds up for school and breakfasted, dressed and out the door for 8:30 tomorrow.......not looking forward to that at all!

derlor · 26/06/2007 16:39

Bumper how did you find the BF group? i've been persuaded by my HV and DH to go to my local one tomorrow but (even though i run these at my work) i must admit i'm really aprehensive. I can't say what is bothering me about it exactly but i just feel akward about going.
Has anyone else been to their local one, how was it?

derlor · 26/06/2007 16:44

Now now Daisy, think positive, it will be a piece of piss (honest!!)
Last week when DH went into work for about 4 hours i just sat in the stairs and sobbed after he left, pathetic huh!!!
He used to work away for 2 weeks at a time till last year and i just got on with it but somehow this time i just need him here all the time. So i know how daunting it is to be on your own but i bet you'll be just fine. x

daisyboo · 26/06/2007 16:52

derlor, is it because you run them for work that you are apprehensive? Is your area for work the same area you live? and are you likely to meet some previous patients?

Or do you just know something that we lesser mortals don't?

bumper...got your text...ouch about the car though. and the say mobile phines are distracting.....small babies even more so i think!

how was the group...did you get some help with latch etc? did it help. ther's bf cafes around leeds and thankfully one within 5 mins of me on thursday. mw coming to see me instead though, but i'll definatel go next week. if only to get practice bf in public. had to feed Em in front of dhs mate yesterday, but his wife bf so i didn't feel too awkward.

derlor · 26/06/2007 16:59

No, thankfully i live far enough away from where i work so i won't meet anyone.
i just feel like the new girl at school i suppose, iykwim, but i also feel akward about this being my 3rd baby, and yet this being the 1st one i've had any problems with, and never having gone to BF group before but yet needing to this time.
Does that make any sense?

daisyboo · 26/06/2007 17:05

ikwym...i'm rubbish these days at jumping in and talking to people. there's nothing like depression for denting your confidence

i'm sure no-one will think twice about you having 'problems'. they'll just think you want to meet like-minded mums. here they are run as cafes where help is avalable if required.

right off to make some pasta for tea...if i can put this baby down without waking her, that is!!
