Hope everyone is enjoying the lovely sunny weather. We bought a snooze shade last week & it has made such a difference on sunny days, much more relaxing going for a walk & not worrying about the sun in her eyes or whether she needs cream etc. She seems to like it & she slept for over an hour with it on at bbq last week, normally we'd have had a real job getting her to sleep.

How's everyone getting on with weaning, dropping milk feeds & dropping naps? Literally overnight Iris went from not that fussed about solids to eating 3 meals a day. We've now dropped the late afternoon milk feed, she was eating every hour through the late afternoon / evening otherwise. She's not wanted any milk since late morning today so that will be 3 milk feeds. I can't remember what we did with DS & when. She's still having 3 naps a day but the timing & length for the lunchtime one is very variable so not sure we're ready to move to 2 yet.

Hazandduck · 04/06/2018 13:06

Tildy has become pretty routine with her day time naps, one in the morning, one in the afternoon, usually around 2 although we’ve just come back from swimming and she is having a feed now so I imagine her afternoon nap will start now today! If we aren’t at home her naps are far more broken to about 20-40 mins and it makes bedtime worse!
The 3 meals thing we are still getting to grips with. I tend to give her breakfast and always give her a dinner but lunch time is a bit hit and miss! I have 3 recipe books for baby food but I still feel a bit uninspired with the weaning thing! I want to make her lots of exciting things to try but don’t know where to start! She tried scrambled egg last night with broccoli mixed in and seemed to love it. Gave her strawberries the other day and she happily ate them in little bits then just as happily brought them straight back up!

GingerHanna · 06/06/2018 12:01

Joseph is enjoying exploring new foods. Some gets swallowed but it’s mostly sucked and munched on and then spat out! We give him the same number of milk feeds as ever as only feed him solids half an hour after milk feeds. We will switch over when he is a year old, unless he indicates otherwise beforehand.

He’s now absolutely solid when sitting up and easily rolling back to front as often as he likes. Front to back is still a bit on and off. We have the big sleepyhead in his crib which stops him rolling over. Had to take it with us to London on the flight as he won’t sleep without it now. Very happy we had a vacuum bag to reduce its bulkiness!

How is everyone and babies?

We have had a busy few weeks here, luckily we have been enjoying the weather.

Bea is eating a lot of food these days, but I need some inspiration on meals particularly lunches. What are you feeding your babies?

It looks like Bea will be going into a spica cast at the end of the month to strengthen her hip. I know it will be the best thing for her, but I worry about her being uncomfortable especially with the summer heat.

DuRezidal · 14/06/2018 22:12

Hi everyone, hope all is well.

I have been absolutely manic with the breeding season in full swing, but dedicating as much time as I can to be with my beautiful children. J is just such a happy and laid back baby, he is so easy to have around. He fits in with whatever we are doing, sleeps fantastically well and eats everything in sight. I am very lucky to have had two children exactly the same.

We are having a bit of trouble with his top teeth coming through though at the moment and his poor little bottom has all blistered 😢 I am covering it in cream, but it hasn't helped an awful lot. Any suggestions?

Apparently it is when something is released to soften the gums this creates the very acidic poo, commonly referred to battery acid poo!

Zampa · 16/06/2018 08:11

@durezidal Have you tried Metatanium? I find it's the most effective nappy cream. Other than that, I can only recommend lots of risky nappy free time on a towel.

@theotherendofthesockportal Hope Bea is ok and that you're happy with the idea of a cast. You'll both make it through!

Are you doing BLW or purées? I found a great beetroot risotto recipe on the Organix website and have been making others from Annabel Karmel's purée recipe book. I also make some carrot and courgette muffins but they went quite wrong! AK had posted some recipes for muffins on her Instagram so going to try some of those. I take out pouches if we're away from home over lunchtime.

Leonore hasn't quite worked out hands yet so BLW doesn't really work for us. She enjoys the Ella's Kitchen melty sticks and has sucked some bread slices. Need to get some more ideas on things she can handle.

Having said all that, she's no longer eating anything from a spoon due to teething. She's gone from being a great eater to barely touching anything. Very disappointing!

@hazandduck How's work going? I'm going in next week to discuss flexible working. My eldest is starting pre-school in September at the local special needs school so going to need slightly different hours. Hoping work will be cool with it.

Do we have any movers yet? Leo is getting stronger and has been threatening to crawl for a week or so now. She almost got herself from lying to sitting yesterday. She can plank like a superstar!

Sleep remains elusive but we've sleep trained the eldest successfully so that's one less thing to worry about!

Hi all been away and had a funeral and not been around much. Liliana is still not sleeping well but recovered from nasty viral infection so feel like we have regressed a big. Sleep remains consistently poor but getting her appetite back. We give puréed veg sometimes with lentils chicken or fish mixed in then offer her milk feed afterwards.

I'm so tired and thought things would be easier than this by now. Takes a toll on our marriage too :( she is rolling loads and wriggling so I am sure it won't be long until she crawls not that I am in a rush!

Some of you talking about work, I have been offered redundancy which coincides with a little cake shop being up for sale in my local town. We weren't planning to be here forever but I have always wanted a cake shop (not mega skilled tho!) so trying to convince husband it is a good idea to spend my redundancy money on that!!

Zampa · 16/06/2018 12:51

Sorry to hear about your redundancy (although it might be a great thing?!).

@Zampa I am happy that the hospital can help Bea at a young age, it would be much harder if she was older and more mobile. I ended up spending a mini fortune in Asda buying clothes in a few sizes up to accommodate the cast.

@lydiangel83 I've always dreamed of running a cake shop/ sweet shop. Sorry to hear of your potential redundancy though, I went through it at the beginning of last year and it isn't nice.

I've just been given a really good book on weaning, I'll add a photo of the cover. We have moved past purees now. I want to do a bit more baby led weaning but was lacking ideals for when we are out and about. There are a couple of recipes in the book that I am going to try e.g courgette bites.

Bea seems to be having a bad reaction to cows milk in her cereal. The nappies are very unpleasant, I've given her almond milk today to make up her porridge, I did check with our gp first.

P.S I decided to shorten my username :)

GingerHanna · 17/06/2018 20:53

BLW here and Joseph has suddenly started swallowing his food instead of just sucking on it and spitting it out!

He still hates tummy time so gets barely 15-20 minutes of it a day. Today wasn’t even five minutes. It kinda worries me but he is sitting up really well and we’re guessing he might just skip the crawling part and go straight to walking - will give us a little more time with him relatively immobile!

Top teeth are working through now. Cannot see them yet but all the other teething signs are it in full force. Poor mite never suffered this much with his bottom teeth.

When do they slow down their growing? Now buying size 80 and already wondering if I will make it through the summer in this size!

lydiangel83 · 18/06/2018 07:53

I really wanted to do baby led but then I wanted to get calories in to L in the off chance it helped her sleep better, so now I give her finger food in addition to purées. I have the Annabelle Karmel baby led weaning book but all looked a bit complicated and put me off if I am honest!

lydiangel83 · 18/06/2018 07:54

@GingerHanna we hardly do any tummy time but L is really strong and loves being stood on her two feet so we are hoping for the same!

lydiangel83 · 18/06/2018 07:55

@sockportal thanks I am meeting current owner tomorrow if is all still a dream as DH is against it and quite rightly says running a business is different to making cakes for family and friends!

butterybollocks · 19/06/2018 19:27

@lydiangel83 sorry to hear you're dealing with the stress of redundancy and still poor sleep. A friend has had some serious success with the pick up put down method recently, and I remember doing it with dd at about this age...maybe worth a Google? Cake shop sounds really exciting - if you don't explore it you'll never know.

Things have been busy here. Dd turned 6 last week so we've had all the excitement (madness) of her birthday and party.

Freddie is commando crawling and is all over the place and into everything. He's really curious so has to zoom off and explore. He's eating well at the moment although prefers sweet flavours. I made some apple, carrot and banana baby muffins which have been a big success, from a recipe on Pinterest.

Zampa · 29/06/2018 15:59

Checking in ... How are you all?

Leonore started crawling last weekend and is now pulling herself up into standing. She's only just turned 7 months so in shock! Lots of bumps and bangs - it's hard to let herself test her new power whilst keeping her safe!

OP posts:
lydiangel83 · 29/06/2018 21:48

@Zampa wow that's good effort! Liliana is starting to pull up on things but not crawl up yet. We are up to 3 meals a day and she eats most things (except dairy because she can't!) and is definitely a little character. She is 8 months today!! I can't believe how time has flown!

lydiangel83 · 29/06/2018 21:49

Sleep is still awful I keep thinking how different our life's would be if she actually slept! We are max 4 hrs between feeds but more often 2. Trying together used to dairy free formula to make life easier all round. Hope you're all ok in the heat!

sockportal · 29/06/2018 22:26

Oh wow @Zampa Leonore is doing so well!

@lydiangel83 Bea is also on 3 meals a day. I'm constantly thinking of new things to make for her.

Bea was put into a spica cast yesterday. We had a rough night in hospital where she woke every 45 minutes and cried and cried. We are back home now and she is much happier.

I've had to buy her 12-18 month clothes to fit over her cast. This has just cost me a small fortune!

lydiangel83 · 30/06/2018 21:06

I've lost my engagement ring ;( totally gutted can't find it anywhere must have slipped off whilst out and about it was special vintage family heirloom. Not told mother in law yet as will never hear the end of it. Am so sad though it was my favourite (inanimate) possession

Zampa · 30/06/2018 22:57

Oh no! That's awful. I really hope it turns up.

lydiangel83 · 01/07/2018 10:30
