Thought i would start the offical May 2007 thread as it is May and we have now had our first offical May baby - even though we have 6 naughty babies who queue jumped and arrived in April .

Probably be a while before there are many messages but a least we have a thread now

Arlen and Willow are such differant babies - I can think of anything where they are similar, apart from both being teensie

Lat night was a success, 11, 2.30 and 6.30 yippeee hope it was the swaddling ad it works again tnite, had a good nights sleep and dp was in the spare room so had the whole bed wooohoo

Was supposes to be going to legoland today, big outting lots of organising and its raining lol, oh well might brighten up,

Enjoy your walk Cam, cant beat sunshine and fresh air, my skin is desperate for some sun hopefully will improve it

AbbyLou · 17/05/2007 10:12

Morning everyone, hope you are all well. Ruby has just had 2 hours of awake time, her longest yet. I love it when they start to be awake for longer, it makes them feel like a proper baby! She too likes to be pretty wrapped up but she likes her arms out and not tucked in. She moved loads when she was inside and she hasn't really stoppped yet. Her little arms are always flailing around! Her and ds have some similarities but have thought he was chilled out she is hyper chilled out. She only really cries when she is hungry.
We are hoping for a walk today too but it is still drizzling here. It's meant to clear up later.
Lupin we took Charlie to Legoland in March on the first day of the new season and he loved it. It was like his last big treat before the baby came along. We went with the in laws and made a weekend of it and stayed in the Hilton in Bracknell. We had a lovely time. Do you live nearby?

Morning all, Abby I too love it when they start to wake up a bit more, J seems to like to be awake for an hour or so in the morning when his db and ds are running around, I hope he is not subconsciously picking up their bad habits

The mw came and weighed him and he has gone down to 8lb 4 from 8lb 11, which is a first for my babies as normally they just get fatter and fatter!

Also my stitches are out and the sun is shining so we shall attempt a small stroll (more like a waddle actually) to the playground this afternoon.

Enjoy your afternoons.

scootermum · 17/05/2007 13:08

Scoot stickes her nose round...whispers 'hi all'...and beats a rapid retreat back to antenatal..

'ere if im the last one to give birth will you let me in here?Could get a bit tumble weedy over there towards the end...

Hope all our May kids and Mummies are doing well...

LupinsBigLump · 17/05/2007 14:04

Abbey we live in Reading, where r u? we ended up at krazy kids instead - weather seems nice everywhere but here, missed the hv yet again and he has left the wrong number, have to agree i thought dd was chilled apart from her feeding but he is fab so relaxed

Right off to tidy tip house grrrrr

LupinsBigLump · 17/05/2007 17:13

just had him weighed now a whopping 5lb 8 woohoo big boy now

AbbyLou · 17/05/2007 17:21

Glad you found somewhere to go Lupin. I live in a town called Long Eaton which is in between Nottingham and Derby. Weather has been pants here as well so you're not alone. Ds was at the childminders today so I walked into town with Ruby. I was fine on the way there and ok walking round the walk home was a bit of a struggle. You always think you can do more than you really can don't you? After me saying Ruby was relaxed she's had a really hard time settling this afternoon. I think she had too much awake time and wore herself out then she couldn't get to sleep. She's zonked out now though and looks so peaceful in her little chair.

aprilmeadow · 17/05/2007 18:54

Hey

Lupins - well done to Arlen on the weight gain!! Would love to meet up. Just say whens best for you.

Cam - Pleased all is going well with J. Wouldnt say nice and slim... but am back in regluar clothes which is nice. Have 1/2 to 1 stone to lose. Bring on the nice weather so i can get out walking.

Welcome to all the new graduates!
Scoot - of course we will let you.... for a price

Ella is being rather 'special' at the mo! She is awake for quite a lot of the day but the last few days has been really restless and wants to be held all the time. Crying a fair bit and at night will only sleep on me.

Hi all,

Another swaddled baby here. Winter is just setting in, in Cape Town so I am happy to make sure that Carys is all snug.

I am still expressing and ffeeding. I gave up on directly breastfeeding because my little girl decided that once she had had the breast that the bottle was a no-no. I didn't have a problem with this until I took her to be weighed - she lost weight at the first weigh in and and had only gain a tiny bit of weight at the second one - so 16 days post birth she still hasn't regained her birth weight and is still weighing around 6lb6 (she is a teeny little dot).

Nights aren't too hideous. She snorts and farts a lot and really loves sleeping on me or next to me - at the moment I love it, I could snuggle with her forever.

My older children are settling down now - in particular DS2 (2yrs8months) has started relaxing with not being the baby anymore. He was pretty full on for the first couple of weeks.

It's my DS1's 6th Birthday tomorrow - can't believe how quickly it goes.

Hope you are all well.

Bensonbluebird · 17/05/2007 19:51

Hellooo

Finally joining in too (anyone would think we all had babies to look after)after Aidan was born on the 8th (Same as Ruby).

I'm swaddling Aidan too, or just wrapping him up like a big sausage - it means I can feed him lying down and then just scoot him over into the cot without disturbing him too much. He has been feeding every two hours at night and every four hours during the day, though that seems to be evening out to every three hours now.

I'm thinking about taking him to the doctor as he has a very weepy and swollen right eye. I've been cleaning it with breast milk but it doesn't seem to be getting better. I really hope it isn't too uncomfortable for him.

Think he's hungry again.....

LupinsBigLump · 17/05/2007 21:16

Welcome Benson good to have you over here with us, glad your little bundle is doing well, hope his eye clears up soon, Arlens was weepy and puffy when he was about 10 days he was still on scbu and they were just cleaning it with water and cotton wool

April I will see whats on for next week or week after, what days suit you best, poor you if she will only sleep on you, hope you are managing to get some kip yourself

Abbey that will teach us to say how relaxed they are, Arlen certainly discovered his lungs this afternoon - we were really shocked, gave him a bath and some milk and he has been sleeping since, all swaddled up, bless him

cameroonmama · 17/05/2007 21:29

Hey Benson, good to have you on here, we are filling up nicely now aren't we? Sorry about Aidan's eye, hope it clears up soon.

I managed a lovely walk to the playground, I think I was more excited about taking the new buggy out than taking J out . Ds1 (3) has ups and downs about his little brother and asked this morning if we could send him back, then announced that he loved him. This afternoon he asked if he could try mummy's booby milk when J had finished...ROFL Typical man...He also admitted he had been naughty at pre-school today and had to go and sit on the thinking cushion and we had a testing afternoon, so it might take a couple of weeks for him to adjust. DD (5) as ever has taken it all in her stride and is very maternal. Too cute.

Happy birthday tomorrow dejags for your ds, have fun.

Right off to bed to sleep while I can. Hope you all get some rest.

aprilmeadow · 18/05/2007 08:23

Happy birthday to your DS Dejags.

Hey Benson

Lupins - i have things on on Wed/Thurs next week and i dont think i have any plans the following week. Mondays are not so good as J isnt at nursery and dont think i could cope with him running around. Apart from that any day

Had a better night last night. E slept in her basket from 8pm - 12am then 12.30am until 3.30am when she fed then slept on me til 7.30am.

Hi everyone, welcome BB.
Another settled day in our house today. Ds has been an angel which makes a pleasant change and was back to his old hilarious self. Ruby has had a sleepy day today, I think she wore herself out with all that time awake yesterday! I'm ashamed to say she has had her first visit to McDonalds but we wanted to treat C for being such a good boy. I indulged in a Caramel McFlurry and it was delish!!
We've been discharged by the mw today which is a relief, it feels like I'm free now and not tied to appointments. I guess the hv will be turning up sometime soon!

LupinsBigLump · 18/05/2007 21:09

Befnal hes soooo cute

AM following week is half term with us, dont know if its the same with you, i can do anyday that week (w/s 28th) btw KK is open woohoo cant wait!! if not that week i can do tues next week

cameroonmama · 19/05/2007 10:59

Befnal, she's soooo tiny, makes J look like a bruiser! I just LOVE her dress, very funky.

Yesterday was a bit hormonal but as J slept from 7.30-10.30 then through til 2.30 then from 4 to 7, I feel a bit more refreshed! Also we took ds1 to a toddler's group and then we went to dd's school assembly so there was plenty of stimulation and admiring ladies yesterday to help him sleep last night!

Right the Tesco man is coming so I have to go, have a good day all.

anneme · 19/05/2007 12:00

Hello everyone. Thought I should actually contribute on the pn thread since i have now qualified - Samuel is also 8 May - wonder what it was about that day! He is being pretty good and sleep is not too bad - thank goodness. He was awful in hospital and cried most of the night for all three nights. This was particularly traumatic on nights 2 and 3 when we were sharing a room with 3 pethidine babies who wouldn't wake to feed - I ended up sitting in the nursery with him in a vain attempt to let others sleep. However, we are home now and he seems happier.
DS1 (31/2) is being a real love. He made a bed in his room on the floor yesterday in case Samuel wanted to go and sleep there! Hejust wants to cuddle, kiss and stroke his brother all the time (trying to dissuade him from doing this when S is asleep...)
Weight wise S lost a little after a week - went from 9lb 15 down to 9lb 5 but am not too worried - he is eating lots and my boobs seem to be suitably big (for once!)AND it has stopped hurting thank goodness.

A question - S is beginning to get nappy rash (which i was expecting because DS 1 had the same problem from quite early on) I have been lying him on my lap with his bottom being aired (and a muslin ready to catch any projectile poo - it comes out at some speed!) ANYWAY - I had an idea today - do you think that it might be an idea to put breast milk on the nappy rash. If it is meant to help with sore eyes/cracked nips etc then surely it would be good for nappy rash. (Have not tried this yet - the image of me trying to squirt breast milk from my boob to his bum is a bit much to cope with.) what would your view be ladies?!?!?

Can hear squeaks from downstairs so will go and investigate...

Bensonbluebird · 19/05/2007 16:23

Hope you had a good birthday dejags and that everyone made a big fuss of you.

We had a bit of a drama with Aidan's eye in the last 48 hours. It suddenly really swelled up and went very red and weepy on thursday afternoon and I ended up taking him to see an after hours doctor who gave him antibiotics. It was no better on friday morning so I took him to the gp and they refered him to an eye specialist. We now have some different antibiotics which seem to be doing the trick. Only problem is that I have to give them to Aidan every 2 hours day and night! We have a follow up appointment on monday but I'm pretty sure that as the antibiotics we have are working all the tests they did for nasty bugs will come back negative.

The midwife came to sign us off today, Aidan has gained 12oz in 5 days! As she left she asked if she would be seeing us again... I've just given all my maternity clothes away but I'm finding it hard to accept that this might be our last little baby.

Mrsjaffabiffa · 19/05/2007 22:19

Knocks on the door...
peeps head round, hello....
can I come in now please.

Sore boobs, anyone else???? Ouch, if it's not the pain of head butting it's the pain of Labour and now the bloomin afterpains and sore boobs. Beeeejeeeeeesus what us women put our bodies through.

Anyway apart from the 20 seconds of Ow, Ow, Ow each time Jorja latches on we are both doing really well. She was a dream in hospital last night, after a horrendous night the night before. Last night, she did 11.30pm, 3am, 5.30am and 8am feeds for about 20minutes and straigt back to sleep in between. I was quite pleased with that 2.5 - 3hrs is acceptable to me on day 3. Hope she does the same tonight I'm very tired.

Hope you and the gorgeous bubs are all well. Such cute pics out there. xxx

BefnalBub · 20/05/2007 09:36

golly its quiet on here; anyone would think we were busy .

quick question re BF; after 20 mins on one side she came off by herself. I left her for a bit and she started rooting again. I was told to offer the other breast if she was still looking hungry so I did - she took it then pretty much threw up the lot... does this mean I should leave the other side for a while - she is only a week old after all & I seem to be producing a lot of milk. Its the first time I tried both and co-incidentally the first time shes ejected more than a small mouthful... anyone else had this?

aprilmeadow · 20/05/2007 10:19

Great news on the sleeping/feeding front MrsJB. Long may it continue.

Befnal - Ella can be like that I think its pretty normal. Daft question, but had you winded her in between feeding?? Sometimes if i cant get any wnd out of E and then she goes back on for more she can end up vomming the feed up.

Lupins - Any day w/c 28th would be good apart from the Monday. AND WOO HOO to KK's being open. How many do you think i could fit on my Phil&Ted???

Benson - WOW, what great weight gain in 5days!!

Anneme - how cute of your ds to make a bed for S awwwww. I beleive that bm can be good for most things. I think MrsJB is the queen of knowing what you can use it for....

Knackered yesterday, walked from my house into town and back with both kiddies on the p&t! Took 30 mins each way up and down hilly pavements plus the hour that i was wondering round the shops.

Ds has taken to waking up between 5 & 5.30am for the last week. Dh looks more knackered than me!

Oh, and i was a good girl this week.... i didnt go into work at all. So no slapped wrists for me

Hope you all had good nights sleeps. Ella fed at 11.30, 3 and 6.30.

speaks through the letterbox, as obviously I don't have a key yet for here

My breastfeeding consultant said on Friday that initially new born babies have stomachs that only take 5-7mls and that this increases gradually over time. It is possible to give too much for that reason, she said that if there is any formula given it shouldn't be more than 20mls because the baby will just puke up (I remember this from hospital with ds). So perhaps she was a bit full and ejected what she couldn't keep in her tum?

cameroonmama · 20/05/2007 10:51

Morning all and a big hello to MrsJB . Great birth story, I loved it! The pics are very cute, how are H and M with Jorja? Its nice to be home isn't it?

Befnal, make sure she has a good wind after she has pulled herself off the breast, it might take a few minutes, then offer her the other breast if she is not too sleepy. Mine have all been quite quick feeders, maybe 10 mins each side.

Anneme, I have never tried breastmilk on nappy rash before but am laughing at the thought of you trying to squirt your norks at S's wee bottom What about some Vaseline at every nappy change to protect and sudocreme when it is very bad? Probably you've tried all that already...

AM - I'm glad to hear you have not been to work this work, phew, how can you even entertain the thought, get yourself some KKs woman.

So who do you think will be joining us next? Poor old LG&T, I think she deserves it for hanging on so long now after that earlier scare!
