Thought i would start the offical May 2007 thread as it is May and we have now had our first offical May baby - even though we have 6 naughty babies who queue jumped and arrived in April .

Probably be a while before there are many messages but a least we have a thread now

Thanks for your advise / comments girls.

So how long do your nipples hurt from bf?? It's not the latch. He's just got stronger suction than a dyson hoover. Am really struggling as it's toe curdlingly painful when he starts to feed. He is 2 weeks old today, so how much longer before they harden up as it were?

I have given up the 3 hour feed thing. He's demanding more than that and I'm not going to not feed him. Surely if I feed him more then he'll gain more weight? Or is that novice mum logic??

HV is here today. We'll see what she says...

AbbyLou · 25/06/2007 13:44

Hello everyone, hope you're all well.
Lovely to see you back PinkJenny, Lexie is very cute. Have you tried Colief drops for her colic? A friend of mine has just discovered it after her lo has been suffering for 5 months!! She is like a different baby - eating more, sleeping more and NO screaming. They can't believe they never found it before, they had tried just about everything else going!
Hv came this morning - Ruby is now 10lb 6oz at almost 7 weeks. She was 7 9 born so is gaining weight well. The hv thinks she is going to be tall as she is already 59cm which puts her on the 98th centile, I thought she looked long so my suspicions were confirmed. She has been really settled for the past 2 days and seems to be really finding it easier to sleep during the day. It's lovely to see her actually playing too - well when I say playing I mean awake and happy!
PinkJenny I have got to take Ruby for an mri scan as it was picked up at the 6 week check that she has a clicky left hip. Is that what Lexie has? The hc seemed to think that worst case scenario would be having to put her in double nappies for a while - does that really work? Sounds a bit strange to me. Here's hoping it's nothing when we go to the hospital.

Pinkjenny · 25/06/2007 13:58

Abbie - Lexie had dislocated hips when she was born as she was breech. She went straight into double nappies the day after, which keeps the hips straight and ensures they do not pop out.

We went to Alder Hey Children's Hospital 2 weeks later and her hips were no longer dislocated and had completely stabilised. However as her hip sockets are still a little shallow they put her into the harness until August to ensure they deepen and her hips don't pop out. We were pleased as the problem is harder to treat the older the child gets, so we were either lucky or unlucky depending on which way you look at it. The harness does the same job as the double nappies, but in a more robust fashion.

When I was waiting for Alexa's appointment, I spoke to lots of people who had been told their babies had clicky hips which corrected themselves without any treatment being necessary. I am sure that the doctor would not have said he thought it would be nothing and that you may have to use double nappies if the problem was more serious. Certainly no one said that to us, and we were aware that Lexie may need to wear some kind of harness when we went to the hospital.

So don't worry, I am sure that its nothing, but its definitely better to be safe than sorry, it would be really hard to treat in an older child. And double nappies was no problem at all, we just rotated the top one, i.e. used the top one on the bottom the next time her nappy was changed to ensure we weren't wasting nappies.

And thanks for your suggestion re: Colief, but we've been using it for 3 weeks, as well as Infacol and we've tried gripe water too. The Health Visitor has just been and suggested that she is a 'little tinker', as opposed to being in any pain, and I would have to agree!! And she weighs 9lb 2oz, 6lb 14oz at birth. Little chubby arms and legs are so cute.

madeindevon2 · 25/06/2007 14:00

ive been away since last tuesday. no internet. no way i'm gonna catch up. so im just waving at you all and hoping everyone is ok.
freddie is doing well. weighing 10lb 2 now (was 9lb2 at birth) he will be 3 weeks old tomorrow. his little face is covered in spots which HV assures me is normal. but i feel sry for him! im still demand feeding. sometimes i seem to be feeding every hour and a half but he sleeps from about 7 or 8pm til 1 or 2am so i figure he has to catch up on feeding during the day?? what do i know!?
but im feeling ok but just wish i wasnt on this medication for my BP. the sooner im off it the better as i worry for freddie...taking medication while breastfeeding. its the best of the bunch...betablockers i mean....for Bfeeding but of course taking anything isnt idea....
when i skimmed saw something about bleeding. i still am...after 3 weeks....its not that heavy tho so i need not be too concerned?

today is 1st day just me and freddie. daddy went back to work reluctantly....he really misses freddie (and me he says!) and has already called about 5 or 6 times today to see how we are!

Pinkjenny · 25/06/2007 14:11

Hi Devon - glad to hear you're OK, and your little bruiser is well.

Lexie is covered in spots too. The Health Visitor seemed to think it is very common and that it is something to do with new babies' pores not being developed. But its one of those things that everyone gives you a different answer for!

I know, its awful, I keep looking at her beautiful little face, thinking, bless your heart. No less cute though.

Although she is screaming from the moses basket now, the cuteness is fading somewhat this afternoon.

LWandLottie · 25/06/2007 16:23

Afternoon All

Iternet has been down for a while so haven't been able to get on, stand very little chance of catching up!

Not much to report this end, except I've got the flu and Lottie's more of a madam than ever. She's all there and round the corner, oh she knows what she wants and how to get it. Wee tyke!

Had her weighed last monday and she was 8lb 4.5oz, going down to the baby clinic tommorrow to weigh her again. She's getting a bit chubbier now.

I am feeling back to normal now. Stitches have stopped hurting, still adjusting to being a mum though. But I do think it's getting better, I'm finding I have more patience with C and I had a night away from her on Saturday and really missed her, and since then I've not been tiring of her so easily. That sounds awful doesn't it!

RE bleeding, I bled for about 3 weeks and stopped. But today it seems to have come back and it's red, period already? Opinions please?

largeginandtonic · 25/06/2007 16:28

Beau spot covered too, just a hormone surge. All mine have done it at about this stage for a couple of weeks.

He has been an angel today! Slept after the school run, i woke him for a feed before toddlers at 1 and he has gone back to slepp, woke him again at 2.30 for the rest of the boob and he has been asleep ever since!!! Im hoping this does not mean he will be awake all night??

I have a friends 30th b day this weekend, but wont be going. She is in Plymouth and i cant face packing the car and 6 children up for a night out. Would have to take BEAU anyway.

Scoot i had forgotten again but i have the bumper bar for the P*T, have a little something for Mae too. Must get to the post office, am useless!

Where is TYG have not seen her for a while, or SOH or MrsJB.....hellooooooo????

largeginandtonic · 25/06/2007 16:31

AHA! Was thinking about you too this am Lwatkins.

Could be a period if you are not breastfeeding, if your bleeding stopped totally and you have not been climbing Mt Everest or anything like that to overdo it then i would think it is.

Glad you managed a night away from C, it does make you appreciate them more

LWandLottie · 25/06/2007 16:53

Am still fully breastfeeding and have been taking it fairly easy. Had stopped bleeding for about a week and a half but today it's come back and it's red - but not heavy Didn't think it came back this quickly - that sucks!

Oh and am I don't want Lottie christened on the grounds that I'm a complete athiest so instead of having a christening I'm having a welcome to the world kinda party for her in july. All my family knew this and I set the date and handed out invites and loads of them (cousins, aunts etc) have made crap excuses and aren't coming. If it was a christening, they'd all be there I bet. And me and my parents and sisters are all expected to go to my cousins daughters christening in october when she's not coming to L's party because 'on the monday I need to take dd to collect her ballet medal'. WTF? The party would be on the saturady, she'd be home by sunday!!! I'm only wanting to celebrate the birth of my child, no big deal. She wants a christening - BIG DEAL. My mum and dad are so angry that they are saying we aren't going in october, god the fall out will be awful! They are gonna make such a fuss if we don't go in october but it seems perfectly acceptable for them to shun my daughter's party! Family politicts - GAH!

Mrsjaffabiffa · 25/06/2007 17:05

Hellooooooooooo I am here!

Have been reading but never seem to have two hands to post, am doing it now with one hand whilst the other holds the expresser.

Great to see those back that haven't been on for a while.

AM your night sounds like great fun.

re bleeding, I still am on and off, Jorja will be 6 weeks on wed and every few days I get a little bit.

Oh and Jorja is in the spotty club, I've tried clearasil on them but they won't budge.

She's never awake and happy. She's just never awake. At the most 5minutes after a feed since sorting feeding out then she sleeps until the next feed.

Pebblemum · 25/06/2007 17:06

Afternoon all

I wish this bloody weather would brighten up, feels more like the middle of winter than summer

A has been an angel today, in fact she is pretty good all the time Just hope she is the same tomorrow when i have to take ds1 to see the specialist about his seizures. The results from his brain test (EMG or something i think it was called) came back clear ie he doesnt react to flashing lights etc so we are back to square one. Hopefully we will get some answers tomorrow

We have finally got some sort of routine going at night. As long as she feeds around midnight then it will be between 5-6am before she wakes up again depending on whether she falls asleep during her midnight feed, she then feeds for about fifteen minutes and goes back off until 9 by which time ds1 has left for school. I finally feel as though im getting enough sleep!!!

Oh well i had better go and do tea, i also promised ds2 we would make Scooby Doo jellies

Pebblemum · 25/06/2007 17:22

meant to say A is spotty too, some days they seem to have cleared up then next she looks like she should be flying with Superted!! Poor girl!!

scootermum · 25/06/2007 17:37

Mae spotty too Pebble.. plus still flaky skinned..not such a good look but she's still gorgeous to me..

Well health visitor came this morning, took one look at me, said I looked half dead and sent me to the Drs..have a uterine infection..hence worse clotty bleeding,(TMI, sorry) plus for good measure a chest infection as well..so am all anitbiotic'ed up now and hoping to feel better soon as am a bit fed up of feeling so rubbish..

No hurry with the buggy bar lgandt..would rather yout ake it as easy as poss..

Welcome back on Pinkj..nice to see you..

Sometimes a night off from the baby is just what you need I reckon LWandL..Makes you remember how much you love the little mites..family politics tch!All DH's recent neices and nephews are being christened together in July and ours are notably Not being! It has gone down like a lead balloon but I care not..life is too short..

Hi Mrs JB..lad to hear its all going well still with the milking!

What a night April..Lily still up loads with her cough, (which I am taking her back to the Docs for as its getting ridiculous now), so if its not one its the other it seems..usually we all end up in bed together just to get some sort of sleep before dawn!

Big wave to everyone else..must go- someones crying..x

Pebblemum · 25/06/2007 18:31

Scoot the flaky skin is horrible isnt it. Alana's is clearing up quite well but her feet are still very flaky.

Has anyone else's LO started losing their hair yet? Poor A has a lovely lot of hair at the back but is going bald on top Its only been happening for the past few days, shes leaving small black hairs in her bed, pram etc. I was really hoping she wouldnt lose any, neither of the ds's did but i guess she isnt that lucky

BefnalNorkSnorkel · 25/06/2007 18:43

L is losing hers too . currently looking like an old man with a comb over and working towards looking like a cistercion monk

ShowOfHands · 25/06/2007 18:50

Would love to write an epic but no time alas. M weighed today and is a whopping 11lb 4oz. Has fed all day, presumably due to the disgusting humidity. She's so hot poor thing.

Just wanted to reply to JL really as can sympathise on the sore nipples. Once I had sorted out the latch I waited and waited for the agonising toe-curling first 20 seconds to abate, to no avail. An archive search and reading other sites solved the problem. The soreness won't go unless treated. Lansinoh is miraculous. Use after every feed, warm between your fingers and rub in, you only need a little bit and it doesn't have to be removed before feeding. Also, try to air your nipples as much as possible to aid healing. So norks out at every available opportunity. They may look fine but probably need some tlc. You can also get some gel impregnated gauze stuff to wear between feeds if you're very sore- I bought some from biofem but there's an alternative available in the high street I believe. About three days of this and I was right as rain. I still use the lansinoh if I get slightly sore to nip the problem in the bud. My nipples haven't become leathery as promised, still sensitive but feeding is now painless. In the meantime at the beginning of each feed, relax your shoulders, count to 20 and if it doesn't subside change positions. Hope some of that helps.

M was flaky and very spotty for about a fortnight btw, all clear now. Was advised to use nothing other than water on her until it was sorted.

And re lochia I stopped bleeding after a couple of weeks really but restarted a couple of times. I soon worked out that it was being in the car (as a passenger) for any prolonged period that was causing it- the seatbelt was putting pressure on my uterus and I presume as my placenta had been anterior it was affecting the wound (and the cs wound too I suppose). Just a thought.

Ooh bit of an epic after all.

DH is off for three days so tomorrow we're going to Sandringham to introduce M to the queen and Weds is the Royal Norfolk Show so we can introduce her to tractors and livestock galore. Good ol' Norfolk gal that she is. Fully planning to feed in a field full of pigs.

Juicylucytoo · 25/06/2007 19:07

Thanks SOH. Will start using the Lansinoh after each feed. Have been letting it all hang out at home.

RE Spots. Oscar has them too. He's also got swollen breasts It's my hormones coming out in him

largeginandtonic · 25/06/2007 19:14

Beau now wide awake and grumpy..... not to worry all others in bed.

SOH very good to hear from you and glad dh is around for a couple of days. SOH im sling hunting, i want a wrap thingy with no rings etc. What do you suggest?

Pebble glad you made the most of your girly day, I am so jealous of the lie in

Tam ty for tootsie they will be most appreciated

ITS gald you had a nice evening out, am looking forward to going out with the girlies

PJ glad you are adjusting well, it can come as quite a shock with the 1st ones, most parasols are crap no matter who they are made by, you always need to move then around and they never stay in the right place, better off with something like a shade a babe or protecta bub, also re the colic a friend said her little one went to a chiroprctor after 3 sessions she is a differant baby, they realign (sp)everything so the wind can come out easier

AM hope you have a better night tnite, I have had couple of bad nights sleep and its not good

Abbey Ruby is 10cm longer than Arlen, lol!!

LW good to hear from you, sorry you have flu hope u feel better soon, glad lottie is doing well

Arlen has been feeding 4oz evert hour in the day and every 1.5 - 2oz at night, I am pooped, really need a good run of sleep, they were both in bed at 8 tnite so have just caught up and am going for a bath in peace and into bed to read my book then feed him and go to sleep nice and early

What is it with this weather, so glad we are off to sunny portugal, now looking like sept/ oct altho i have said i would like to be here for dd's bday, then go

aprilmeadow · 25/06/2007 20:55

Hi there, well we have had fun this bed time. Ella went down really well, but Jack on the hand was not. It took me 15mins of going up and down the stairs putting him back in bed. But eventually he gave in.

SOH, i dont know if you are still around, but if you are please can you check your email There is an important package winging its way to you tomorrow, i dont know what time it will arrive, but you need to be there to accept/sign for it. Its not just from me, its from a few of us

Had Ella weighed today and at 10weeks and 6days she weighs in at 10lbs 15oz.

Ella has a few milk spots and a small patch of flaky skin on her temple, so not too bad really. She is really starting to 'talk', its so cute.

Hello to one and all, better get off the laptop as dh is starting to huff and puff!

OP posts:
scootermum · 25/06/2007 21:05

Mae was weighed today-forgot to say-9lbs 7 oz..cant believe how big she is already-it took Lily nearly 10 weeks to get to 10 pounds and Mae will be there in no time at all..

Gah can hear poor Lil coughing away..

Can couch for the Colief for the wind..We have started giving Mae it in the day and Infacol at night (just because you have to make it up in a bottle feed half an hour before giving it which isnt practical at night with a screaming baby) and it seems to have really helped..

Sounds like a lovely few days SOH..Send our regards to her Maj

Hows DH Lupins?

We have had an offer accepted on a house today so all being well the family Scoot will soon be moving..(though along way to go yet so not counting on it)House is not one Id normally want, as its not old and not in the country, but we have to be practical and have gone for something that will at least give us more space and a biger garden..its only for 5 years or so, then we can look for the dream house with room for the chickens and the goat..

charleymouse · 26/06/2007 01:09

Congratulations all the late arrivals, I can't believe the date span the "due in May" ladies have managed to achieve. It is definitley not an exact science this baby making malarky.

Cheers Scooter, 12YG, Lupins, AM, CM, MrsJB, BNS for you kind words, I will endeavor to try harder to keep up even if I only join in to rant/moan/seek advice. I only ever seem able to catch up with thread during day and DH hogs computer in evening and I like to spend time with DD so I am then on at this time thinking I really should be asleep.

Glad to hear you are all doing okay and are enjoying (most of the time) our little ones. I do marvel at how beautiful he (and all of yours) are and how perfect and cute they are.

George now weighs 6lb 14oz and measures 52.5cm he actually looks like a newborn baby instead of a premmie. He has graduated to newborn nappies instead of micro ones and has settled in quite nicely to his breastfeeds although he does cluster feed in an evening. He is a lot more windy than DD but am hoping he will grow out of it as he is still so little, he is not even her birth weight yet. He also had a few spotty days in the early weeks I think he may have also had heat rash when (back in the summer of May 2007) we had that warm spell.

I still get people referring to George as a newborn and they are really shocked when I say he is n weeks (can't believe he is 12 weeks today). Okay you know when people say "is he your first/only one?" Should I answer no third (he is DT2) or just say he has a sister at home. I feel like I am betraying Benjamin if I do not mention him but then get embroiled in the whole story to complete strangers if I do.

I have bought a ring sling but G seems to be too scrunched up for my liking when he is in it. I have a brief paper instruction but it came with others as an email word attachment and I don't have word at home so that was no use, so any advice would be gratefully received even if it is get a different sling.

My HV seems very nice and I think I must be classed as high risk for PND or something as she is quite caring and started out coming every few days and now comes weekly and offers sensible advice (unlike others I have met - and heard about from you guys).

Anyone know how dejags is getting on?

Sorry if this has already been covered but I know we have probably all filled in the child benefit forms but it may well be worth doing the tax credit ones as well. I didn't think I was eligible with DD but when you take account of reduced annual salary whilst on maternity leave you may be pleasantly surprised, I was. Although I have just found out my occupational maternity pay has improved - new deal signed by union/employer on 1 June so I should benefit from it but not heard exact details yet.

Has anyone seen Sheffield on the news today, DH works there and DDs at nursery there and I have to drop/collect them each morning/afternoon. A 30 mile round trip took us 2 and a half hours tonight and we didn't even go near the flooded bits. We also have fire engines on the estate as further along (luckily not to near us) the road has flooded.

I am also trying to work out if the travel will be too much for the meet up however if I do make it if anyone lives near M1 will gladly give a lift enroute.

(((((((((please excuse my excessive use of brackets in this post)))))))))))

Lupins71 · 26/06/2007 03:41

Charley good to hear from you, glad is doing so well, I am always getting people saying oh hes a new one - ermmm well actually no hes not!! he is just fitting into his newborn stuff now, re the q about how many children, I think it depends on whether you are in the mood to be drawn into discussing what has happened, there are some people/ times I feel quite comfortable mentioning Morgan and others where I just think, you dont need to know and I am not in the mood to talk about that right now, you certainly wont be betraying Benjamin, i think if its people that you are likely to meet up with a few times then it may be better to say, but an busy body in the street when you are having an emotional day (and you will still get them for probably well forever) neednt know if you dont want to tell them, we are all here if you need a shoulder or a moan, whinge, proud mummy moment

Scoot dh seems to be ok, he is getting quite lightheaded and queasy at times, but he certainly isnt getting any worse, which considering the weather i would have thought he would, i think the move is keeping him a bit positive, there is light at the end of the tunnel, he is going to a warm country to be looked after by me and his mum, and all he has to do is help build a couple of houses, so thats helping too

I am bloody starving, A is under his gym eating a toy, after just waking up to do a mini projectile and a poo, so i have limited him to 2oz this feed, hopefully he will be zonked soon, lucky i went to bed at 9.30!! my bath wasnt as good as anticipated, didnt put the boiler on for long enough and forgot i had bathed dd earlier, anyway it was nice being clean and wrapped up in 2 duvets (our bedroom is freezing) with my new book, am off to get cereal and hopefully some more sleep soon

Oh dd has got her trial morning at school bless her, I kind of feel sad that she is at that age, fact is she might not even get there if the move goes ahead sooner rather than later, cant see the point in starting her in sept if we are leaving in oct, she will make new friends and settle in and then have to leave or do i put her in for month 6 weeks rather than have her at home bored with me and getting under my feet

Pinkjenny · 26/06/2007 09:16

Morning all

I have had a really good night actually! Lexie was such a livewire yesterday and barely slept at all, even when she was asleep she was fidgeting.

She went down at 10.40pm and then woke for a feed at 1.15am, went down until 5.15am, went back down, and is still asleep! With her bib round her neck like a little scarf.

Am off for lunch today with one of my Area Managers, not sure how I feel about seeing people from work, I've been trying to choose an outfit that makes me feel like less of a moose for the past half hour. Off to Slimming World for weigh-in later. Joy of Joys. The best thing about weigh-in day is that you can eat whatever you like, as you have the rest of the week to catch up. Vienetta for breakfast!!!

Great to hear from you Charley, can't believe George is 12 weeks old!

Lexie doesn't seem to be losing her hair yet, but she still doesn't have any at the front, she looks like she is wearing a comedy wig. Or has a Michael Bolton circa 1995 inspired mullet.
