Hmmm I think it got better about 6- 8 weeks for us Tee. Is he taking a bottle from MrT? I could never get into expressing so I just booted MrPopz out of bed and coslept with mini for a few weeks. Feeding lying down meant I got more sleep and mini could just help himself to boob. Before I discovered that I think I usually had to stay up all night and just try and grab a couple of hours kip at teatime. He would not be put down to sleep for ages. It is hard, I hated those first few weeks. But it does get better Brew

FurryScoob · 05/07/2015 15:08

Were doing BLW at dinner time & mush for tea, miniscoob seems to sleep loads better since we've been doing it. She'll quite happily eat food at dinner time but gets bored & rubs it all over her head & makes her hair spikeyHmm wash loads & bath times have doubled since we started!

teejayem · 05/07/2015 17:42

Yeah, he has an ebf bottle, trouble is I'm not getting much opportunity to express between feeds at the moment unless i pump and feed at the same time. We do the side co sleep from about 5am, might try it earlier tonight....poor sausage is just so clingy, he's just not wanted to lay anywhere except on a person so we've been taking it in turns to get housework done while the other holds him, he's even grizzled in his sling today!
I used to spike my hair up with sugar water scoob.. Maybe you've got a mini goth in waiting?!

PixieChops · 05/07/2015 17:50

lol scoob! DD still does that and she's 1!
Tee it does get better as the weeks go on and their stomachs get bigger and they can hold more. All DS has done is cluster feed and he's FF so it's not like I can just whop out a nork, I have to do the long winded cleaning of bottles and making up feeds Hmm
I'm so tired today I feel like I'm going to pass out and throw up all at the same time. Had about 3 hours of broken sleep and just as DS was finally settling down to have a proper sleep at 5am DD woke up! Confused I nearly cried. Plus we've had to go out for SILs birthday meal when all we wanted to do was sleep. So it's quick dinner, baths and bed all round for us this evening. In really hoping I can get some kip in tonight as I don't think I can physically carry onSad

PixieChops · 05/07/2015 17:52

I've realised that my other post sounds like I'm implying that breast feeding isn't hard and just consists of "whopping out a nork) That's not what I meant, it's difficult as fuck, I tried and failed and I admire anyone that does it and sticks with it.

WilHarlot · 05/07/2015 18:06

We knew what you meant Pixie.

6 weeks usually is a bit of a turning point. You should find expressing much easier when the constant feeding stops and you're left with an over supply.

That sounds like a good compromise Furry, maybe I'll do that.

FurryScoob · 05/07/2015 18:26

Hope you get some sleep tonight Pixie

Tee you could be right, miniscoob is currently wiping a magazine around her head & giving herself black eyes. Bath time soon for the little goth!

Will I found if I gave miniscoob something mushed up she'd then eat it as a lump a few days later when she recognised the taste. Anything I just give her a piece of for the first time just gets chucked about & lands on the floor.

RPopz · 05/07/2015 18:48

That's why I never could get on with expressing... I never had a spare minute and if I did there were about 55 bajillion other things I wanted to do instead of pump! Its good that he'll have the bottle though.

Got a great mental image of S with her food based hair products scoob Grin I love her fluffy head!!

RPopz · 05/07/2015 18:49

Hope you can get some rest tonight pixie. Can you and Mr P do shifts for sleep/ feeding?

cookielove · 05/07/2015 19:49

pixie I recommend you get a perfect prep, makes making up bottles much easier it takes less than 3 minutes to make a bottle and it makes them body temperature!

ZylaB · 05/07/2015 20:42

My friends who Ff thoroughly recommend the perfect prep machine too, one of them even takes it upstairs with her at bed time!

PixieChops · 05/07/2015 21:09

That would definitely be a good idea! Mr P does take shifts, he's doing tomorrow night and I'm doing tonight again as he's at work early tomorrow. He did the Friday night shift too it was just unfortunate that DD was ill so I ended up having to get up at 1am to sort her out Confused
I'm off to bed now, glad I didn't offend anyone with my comment as that was not my intention.
Got a busy week this week with baby classes and people visiting DS who haven't yet seen him. I prefer that though to just being stuck in the house all the time. DD needs constantly entertaining or she gets very bored very quickly and becomes a nuisance.

minimooo · 06/07/2015 06:14

The perfect prep is amazing! I've had mine a few weeks now and I couldn't live without it. I bring it upstairs at night for night feeds too! Grin

Minion · 06/07/2015 07:09

If you're budget doesn't stretch to a perfect prep (ours did but tight wad said no) get a tommee tippee flask and use that with a bottle of chilled boiled water. I'm in and out of R's room in ten mins (when she doesn't fuck around)
She had a really good night for once. Bed at 7, bottle 11:15 then didn't hear from her to 4:30, bottle then finally awake at 6:30!
Typically I couldn't get back to sleep tho, so I'm goosed!
Must learn to ' sleep when the baby sleeps "

Cymraes17 · 06/07/2015 12:50

Baby B did not want to sleep last night. She woke up at a quater to two and had both sides, and still wouldn't go back to sleep untill way past half past three, then wanted another feed at six, and eight. I know its not that bad, but I really like my sleep.
First HV visit this afternoon, its a new HV as well, we've had the same one since DD1, not sure why we have a diff one this time.
In other news, im back in my fav jeans! Need to collect all my mat clothes, and get ready to get rid! Im hoping that I wont need them again, not planning on any more. Will be getting rid of newborn clothes soon after baby B has out grown them.

JuniDD · 06/07/2015 13:01

Big love to the sleepless and sore. It'll get better!

I've brought babyj to the part if town where I work for lunch with a colleague. It is the scummy part of town full of dodgy sorts. She's loving it! Just hoping no one spills special brew on her. Shock Shock

Pisghetti · 06/07/2015 19:01

Haha Juni my town centre is like that - everyone hangs out outside Cash Converters.

Top shrinking Cym!

It gets better Tee. Don't know how you're managing to express so much - I didn't start expressing for about a month when the relentless feeds settled down.

ZylaB · 06/07/2015 21:12

I'm hardly expressing at all now, I know I should..but I'm so stingy about when I'll get some out of the freezer that we've still got 6 bottles worth in there, and I hate getting up in the middle of the nigh to do it! Do you think if I start expressing last thing every night my supply will adjust to it? I always failed to get much in the evenings though :(

teejayem · 06/07/2015 23:04

I can do about 150ml in the morning and about 100ml about 8pm if I time it right. I have to be arsed well disciplined doing it though, it's just a bit of a drag, but it gives the nips such a nice break! He's actually been better today, longer feeds, both sides and longer naps. although we were up and down again last night, took your advice popz and had him next to me in bed after the fifth wake up at 3am and we managed to snooze in and off until about 9 which was lurrrrrvely.also managed to leave the house to walk into the village without him throwing a shit fit.. I decided to soak off my acrylics this afternoon, so needed some acetone, they look dreadful now but it'll be better in the long run...
I seem to have gone almost to my pre preg weight but my shape has changed entirely- my thighs are too big for most of my jeans that fit before so I'm still in my mat ones :( I read somewhere that breastfeeding fat deposits go on thighs so i'm hoping that's the case...

Pisghetti · 07/07/2015 00:07

I have more success in the morning Zyla. When I'm on form I get up and put the pump bits in the steriliser while I make a cup of tea and then assemble and use the pump when she feeds mid morning. I try to block feed from the early morning to build up a boobful for the pump. I have quite a bit in the freezer at the moment so haven't been doing as much recently. I have my first night out sans baby in three weeks gulp

WilHarlot · 07/07/2015 09:37

I used to express every night with Mini and it was fine at first but over time just started getting less and less. I agree mornings are better if possible.

rm00054 · 07/07/2015 10:53

How does expressing for later work?! I tried expressing a bit this morning but when baby woke up and fed he emptied me but was still hungry so I ended up giving him the expressed stuff too! Sort of defeated the purpose.
So when are you supposed to express. I don't think I would get much if I did it straight after he's fed and can't do its before in case he needs it. He feeds around every 3 hours so don't have that long to replenish the stock!

Pisghetti · 07/07/2015 11:26

I used to worry about feeling 'empty' after pumping with my son. A phrase that comes up a lot of bf support is boobs are factories, not warehouses. You'll keep making milk through the feed. I only feed on one side at a time (ie I don't swap sides during the feed) so pump from the other side.

BabyPis had a mega sleep last night. We had a lazy morning in bed but she didn't feed for long before falling back asleep. So it would be this morning that I have to answer the door at half nine in my glasses and milk drenched nightie wouldn't it? Even worse - it was fit postie. Sigh.

WilHarlot · 07/07/2015 11:29

How old now rm? Expressing gets easier after about the first six weeks but you'll find you work about 24 hours behind the baby. So may have been better not to give the expressed milk and just let him suck as that will stimulate you to produce more the following day if you see what I mean? But for the first six weeks things can be a bit erratic.

ZylaB · 07/07/2015 12:13

I might start trying a bit more in the mornings then, I'm NOT getting up in the middle of the night any more for that. I'm so rubbish at keeping it up though.
