Right, I'll start us a post natal thread that we can gibber on.

We had vomit sunami X2 yesterday. One just before our dinner, which necessitated a quick bath/hair wash (which toots hated til sat her in the water then she was happy -ish). 2nd was about half 11 and all down her dad, took. But since then she slept for four hour stretches and been much more settled.

We formula feeding on demand (anywhere from 30ml to 90mls) but I don't know if we fed too much or didn't wind properly. But she is pooing for Britain so no problems that end.

Sorry to hear about vomit gate! It's not pleasant is it! At least she seemed more settled afterwards was prob just a bit of trapped wind!

Mabel has been an angel up until yesterday when she screamed for about 2 hours solid! That was stressful! I seem to remember dd1 did this too at the two week mark then settled back down again, in hoping this is the case or otherwise I may be in for a rough ride with her at night!!

Oh well chook. We can bounce off each other. Or rather I'll ask you hunters of ftm questions

I've just realised baby is 1 week old today! Where has the last week gone!?!

I got the perfect prep machine. It's FABULOUS! Although I do find trying to get the teat and retaining ring on bottles while keeping everything as clean as possible a bit of a challenge in the middle of the night!

I've got it too... Such a time saver not having to wait for the kettle to boil then water cool etc! Mabel has been much more settled today just hope that lasts tonight too!

Another trapped wind night. Resorted to a dummy to help her settle. Which worked and she finally slept from 3 til half 7.

My friend and her mum are coming for a visit today. Her mum is a health visitor. Going to hit her up for as many hints and tips as I can!

sunbathing I'm using the machine just now even though she only taking 3fl oz. We just watch the level and stop it at 90mls.

Going to investigate the tiger in the tree hold - sounds like a mad yoga pose!!

But can I say, it's amazing how four hours solid sleep makes me feel slightly more human!

I'm using it now too sun Mabel is having 4 oz as she is such a chunk!!

I too need to check out this hold...sounds most intriguing!!

Definitely amazing how a bit of sleep changes your perspective!

Ds (how weird is it typing that?!! ) didn't sleep a wink on nights 1 and 2 unless held by someone, and wouldn't be put down all day either without screaming so we were shattered. Because of 2 nights of contractions before the birth, it was my 4th night of absolutely no sleep so I was beside myself, even though I know it's normal! Glad to report last night and the night before were significantly improved - a combination of my milk coming in so we're able to put him down milk-drunk, and warming his basket with a heated wheaty bag before he goes in it!!

I also remembered a tip about putting baby in a blanket or lying on a muslin that mummy has slept with/stuffed down a bra so it smells familiar. Just passing that on in case it's useful to anyone!

Dd is being lovely with him although a bit difficult with us. She is going for a "sleepover" at Granny's today to give dh and I a tiny bit of babymooning... Although sadly we have to be organised tomorrow morning to go to a real dump of a clinic in one of our less salubrious local towns and sit and wait for ds's 5 day check. Not a great way to spend Father's Day for dh!

MW came to see us today. Wasn't completely happy to sign us off as DD hadn't had a poo for two days roughly. Approximately half an hour after she left - poo-nami!! Solid ball of poo then loads of soft formed. No wonder she was all uncomfortable though. Here's hoping that's us back to normal poo-ing from now on.

Never been so happy to see so much poo in my life. And as an adult nurse that is saying something

Is anybody else finding nights really difficult? Since we have been home with DS he has slept fine during the day either in his bouncer or on one of us but is wide awake and rooting for a feed as soon as he touches the moses basket. I have tried wrapping one of my fresh worn t-shirts around the mattress, adding a blanket rolled up to his side so that he doesn't feel so alone, elevating the mattress but it doesn't seem to help. I am BF on demand and he tends to feed a lot overnight generally from 10pm-6am falling asleep on the boob and will sleep on one of us too but not in the basket. He is getting some sleep while he finishes the feed and then while we hold him afterwards until he wakes naturally or we try and move him, however, neither me or DH are getting any sleep overnight. DH insists on staying up with me so that I don't fall asleep while holding him and drop him. During the day he is happy to feed, fall asleep and be left for 3-4 hours.

Hello, so excited to be on this thread now.
To recap, DS was born last Sunday. Labour went fine, but then the actual birth was difficult and needed intervention - it was a bit traumatic as it all happened quickly and I didn't really know what was happening apart from feeling excruciating pain.
However, all that is in the past and now my DS is here.

DS is a bit lazy when it comes to feeding, he feeds for a few minutes and then falls asleep. I am a bit concerned as to whether he is feeding enough.

Anyone else somewhat irrationally annoyed that fathers day has come around first? After all the work we put in!!

excited I'm not breastfeeding but we are having major wind problems. So have been up til 2/3 in morning trying to console precious wee bundle. Last night though (after a mahoosive poo) she slept until I woke her, she went nearly 6 hours without food. Not sure if thats acceptable at 10 days old!
But also, the first few days in hospital I felt I was feeding every two minutes during the night. Have you tried swaddling? Hope you had a better night last night!

Sorry excited that was was a somewhat less helpful post than I intended. Was meant to be chockfull of sympathy!

It's ok come, we seem to have had a bit of a breakthrough last night. DS managed to go down in the basket 3 times overnight for at least half an hour each time, it's not for long but it has meant that both DH and I have had some sleep at the same time as each other. I've not tried swaddling as I'm worried about him overheating wrapped so tight, our bedroom is really warm despite the windows being open. We need to invest in a fan to help this.

I need to wake DS now as he has been sleeping since 6:30 albeit in the bouncer (I spilt water over the bed during a nappy change so we all decamped to the living room)

Just having a quick catch up while gritting my teeth through another bf.... Latch clearly not right as am at the "lacerating with glass" sensation stage Fortunately wee man seems quite efficient so at least it's over fairly quickly.

Am coming to realise you are only as good as your last night's sleep... So yesterday on two hours was crap and full of tears and tantrums (from me, not ds!!) but today should be better as I had SEVEN HOURS sleep in three different segments. Woo hoo!

excited Mabel is a really good sleeper at night thank god but during the day she is becoming very unsettled and has little bursts of sleep at any one time which is difficult when I'm trying to get things done around the house, but remember they are still very young and it will pass and a routine will be established soon,

come Mabel has been going 6hours every night since day 3! She seems happy with that and I am more than happy to have that big chunk of sleep in one hit. Both midwife and health visitor said its fine she is content and gaining weight so it's not a problem!

pas sorry to hear your boobs are suffering, I have given up on breastfeeding now because of this it was just so painful and Mabel actually seems to prefer formula than my milk think because she is suck a chunk she needs more than I can manage! Hope it improves for you soon.... It's eye watering at times isn't it!

DD- ok that sounds weird! Is now 4 days old. We are breastfeeding I guess on demand but mainly every 2ish hours. I'm using nipple guards at midwife's recommendation as DD is such a fusspot on my nipples it hurt SO much.
She has day and night mixed up and like a PP I also haven't really slept since last Wednesday!
We also have other DC so I can't just sit in bed all day eating biscuits, drinking tea and breastfeeding-boo!!
Feel a bit overwhelmed, I'm really hoping DD will settle at night soon, she won't even let me put her down at night at the moment but fine in the day.
Sorry for mammoth post, I'm just so glad there are others in the same boat!!
