(((((Hug))))) mopsy

If the CBT book isn't to your taste it might be worth getting one called "Mind Over mood": it is a work-thrrough book, covers CBT principles with lots of examples to help anxiety and depression and other stress. It costs about £20 on Amazon but is very good and I've heard people say it really helped them when they weren't able to do in-person CBT. There is also a (free) Aussie online one called Moodgym.
Well done for talking about it xxx

mopsytop · 16/06/2015 21:08

Thanks for those recommendations Aethel. I'll work through this book first and see how I get on. I've been setting some SMART goals so I'll see how I fare. I've also decided to go to a WI meeting this week. This particular group is full this year but I signed up for waiting list for next year and will go to a few meetings as a guest to see what it is like. It is quite a young group. They seem to do fun things. Mainly I'm trying to get myself out of the house and meet new people. I'm sure working alone from home and being home with small kids other days isn't helping my mental health. I need to force myself to get out and see more people. I have been so caught up with decorating this year and having to be in to let tradespeople in and out that I've hardly been to a single group. Mopsyboy is a total joy but I have had very little adult contact these past months. I'm sure it hasn't helped. So I'm forcing myself now to do stuff. Meeting friends for lunch the days I work alone, arranging to go for a run with a friend or even just a coffee. I didn't realise how low I'd got but looking back I had barely seen any friends for months. And they'd just have assu I was busy with my kids I'm sure. It isn't that they don't care about me as I was telling myself. As you can see definitely improving abut. But it was a horrible place there for a while, my head.

By the way, have any of you heard of mirena coil causing depression?

Aethelfleda · 16/06/2015 22:42

In theory, no, because the hormone levels are tiny: they are far lower than pills and loads lower than implants or injections, they just act locally on the womb rather than travelling round the blood to get to their destination. Also it's not got any oestrogen in it (like the combined pill has, which causes lots of mood problems for some folks).
Having that, Google "mirena and depression" and you will find lots of fora where there are dozens of women who'll swear blind that it does, and anyone else who says otherwise is an eejit :)

Aethelfleda · 16/06/2015 22:44

(In all honesty it's way more likely to be Just One Of Those Things. But that's OK.)

NorthernChinchilla · 17/06/2015 09:04

Mopsy, so sorry to hear you've been so low, that sounds tough. Certainly sounds like the environmental factors- isolation, job, small children, etc, have had a big impact. Brilliant that you're aware of it though, and are talking to family and HCPs, the real danger is when you can't tell it's happening until you're really in the throws.

mopsytop · 17/06/2015 09:05

Hmm. The reason I'm suspicious of the coil making it worse is because since I had it in I had several severe headaches. I'm on anti-migraine meds and they were working fine, maybe one bad head a month. Then suddenly about eight, a month around and during my period... Only thing that changed was coil. So I'm wondering if maybe it didn't affect me badly in spite of it not supposed to.

Figster · 17/06/2015 13:35

Aw Mopsy that sounds crap glad you feeling better!!

not a lot to report here no DS issues in almost a week he has been a joy and has discovered a love of football so DH takes him to the common by our house after work every night he has finally got to the stage that DH has been waiting for i.e the ball games and conversations about farting and aliens.

6 weeks until my holiday now...........no weight lost...........busy weekends between now and then.............not fancying my chances!! Damn my weakness for anything salted caramel!!

mopsytop · 18/06/2015 13:37

Been awarded a three-year research fellowship. PHEW!!!!!!!!!!!

hinkyhonk · 18/06/2015 21:51

Hurrah well done mopsy hope that helps lift your spirits a bit

Figster · 19/06/2015 09:08

yay Mopsy

dh got the job yesterday 8\9 mins from home offered him at the end of interview so that should be some our issues resolved there's only 8 of them though so crap benefits and slightly lower salary but bonus should make up for it and whilst it's still not want he wants to do career wise to avoid driving into the city and not being able to help with Ds drop offs or being unemployed he's happy to go for it!!

had a big argument last night though as he wants to leave current job next week and take ,6 weeks off before starting new one he's got a huge overdraft and whilst I think he should stay a couple more weeks as a compromise and to help current place as they will struggle to replace him (high turnover and poor industry reputation will do that) he basically won't. if he stayed couple more weeks he'd still have 3 weeks off and then the week we are on holiday before he starts I think he is being selfish and financially irresponsible he says I'm just jealous. he's being selfish right?????

mopsytop · 19/06/2015 09:44

If he's a big overdraft he's being foolish more to the point. Time off is a luxury not a necessity. If he had three weeks off that would be loads!

NorthernChinchilla · 19/06/2015 11:43

Hurray for mopsy! Brilliant achievement, and I am sure that will go a major way (post coil removal and crazy running Wink ) to making you feel a whole lot better.

Yep figgy, in the nicest possible way, he IBVVU. Your plan is clearly the way forward, and I would be massively pee'd off in your shoes.

Aethelfleda · 20/06/2015 10:42

Homework. Two reluctant DDs.
Not the best combination.
Enjoy the next two years without homework ladies, it's coming your way....

Figster · 21/06/2015 07:34

I'm a birding widow today dh is out d day he's gone off with our passes to our local "day out" place so any go there. Angry

I'm bored already so thinking church, cake, park, try and impose self on most local friends for an hour oh and the washing it's an a exciting day here Smile

mopsytop · 23/06/2015 09:31

Hope Sunday was ok in the end Figgy!

I have managed to sort a four day contract and extend my award correspondingly which is so fab! Means I get the day with the kids and the fellowship will last until a couple of months before Mopsyboy starts school! Woohoo!

Faffin · 23/06/2015 10:38

Yay mopsy!!

NorthernChinchilla · 23/06/2015 21:16

Hey mopsy that's brilliant, amazing how things suddenly can change for the better in the flick of a switch.

Attended a party at the weekend thrown by one of my oldest friends who now lives abroad. He got all the old gang together, some of whom I'd not seen in years.
It was brilliant, and to a person they all commented on how big DS was and on his hair Grin . My friend's Dad said it put him in mind of Robert Plant!
So weird when you go from partying friends to babies, mortgages and serious jobs Smile

mopsytop · 23/06/2015 21:26

Sounds fun Northern. And I know what you mean. You wonder how it can possibly be you with the job mortgage kids etc. I often stop and think hang on I am a mother. To TWO kids. How?! How can I be old and responsible enough !!

I received an invitation to a gaudy in the post today. Really hoping a few of my friends can make it for a similar type reunion ... Would be amazing!

mopsytop · 26/06/2015 17:31

Happy weekend all!

mopsytop · 26/06/2015 20:30

Mr Mopsy in pub, Minimopsy and Mopsyboy in bed asleep. Time for some Poirot and a G&T methinks!!!

mopsytop · 26/06/2015 20:32

???? and ???? = ????

Aethelfleda · 27/06/2015 07:33

Hear you with the whole eek-I'm-a-real-live-grownup think, mopsy!

Recharge weekend ahoy with a visit to the minion movie as a big treat. DD1 already up and in her minion onesie (!)

mopsytop · 27/06/2015 18:42

Is the minion movie good Aethel?

We had a play date in the morning and early afternoon, then played outside. Then Minimopsy and I went to playground on our own. I'm wrecked!

NorthernChinchilla · 28/06/2015 09:48

We were thinking of the Minion movie this week, but are going to head to the beach instead, given the lovely weather.
Just off to water the garden now!

Poirot and a G&T is actually my definition of heaven too......Grin
