Our first thread on the 'other side'. And may all our soon to be mummies join us in this adventure through the early days of parenthood as we continue to share exciting times.

Congrats blank and purple! Such lovely news to wake up to.

Frenetic 40 mins is good going, my 4 year old had a nightmare the other night and sobbed for longer than that, it doesnt matter how this baby sleeps it will be better than ds1 ever has been. This one takes an hour or so to feed then winds for 20 mins plus then grunts for an age this is why he doesnt wake much because when he does it takes a while to get him back off.

Im wondering if he has tongue tie? He takes so long to feed still and its so much effort to just drink an ounce and when he screams his tongue gets a line down the middle and front? Any ideas? He only has 10 days until his 6 week check so will ask then

purpleteapig · 22/02/2015 11:18

Ah ok, thanks honey & frenetic - I'll try those methods. NHS site recommended expressing after feeding - sounds like that's a crock then!
Frenetic, that's a really good amount of milk in that space of time.

Purpletoes · 22/02/2015 12:19

Hi everyone.

Thanks for the congratulations. So after we got home yesterday the contractions re started.

I made my ds and myself dinner and prepped my dps.

They started getting a bit more frequent but I was convinced it was same as night before. Went to bed to try and sleep. When I found myself crying with the pain and realising the contractions were only 3 mins apart from start to start panicked rung dmil to come watch ds and we headed to hospital again.

Arrived around 1130. Tens machine going full blast and a water bottle. Got some gas and air and was examined at 12 was 7cm. Blush

So got to pushing stage on just tens and gas and air then realised too late for anything else. Think second stage took about 10-15 mins. Seemed fast.

Just a small tear a couple of stitches. But we are all good. Can't believe I managed it with no drugs.

I am wrecked can't sleep in hospital although lo is managing it. I have a feeling they may keep me in tonight.

Btw her name is Alice. Middle name to be confirmed and she is gorgeous. Although I am biased. Xx

GeekyHybrid · 22/02/2015 12:19

Welcome to the madness popsicle. My only conclusion so far on our babies is that they'll do the opposite of what you expect / want at the most inconvenient momentGrin Mine has literally just pooed as I type this, that lovely 'squit' sound they make!

grinning and long it'll be your turn soon enough. Lancs better luck today, thinking of you. Biscuit Brew Biscuit Thanks to keep you going!

Love the name purpletoes and great to hear the details! Actually sleeping in the hospital is almost impossible, hope you get home soon Thanks Thanks

Important tip of the day:
If child is wearing trousers and socks rather than sleepsuit, DO remove socks as well as trousers for nappy changing. That bright yellow stuff doesn't half show up on little white socks! ! Grin Blush

freneticfox · 22/02/2015 13:42

Geeky..agreed!!! DH has been peed on twice today during changes and both times forgot to take off LO's socks. I'm yet to be christened by pee, it's only a matter of time though...

Popsicle30 · 22/02/2015 13:42

What a beautiful name Purple. It sounds like although it took a while to build up once they did it all went quite quickly. I hope your stay in hospital isn't too long. Also make the most of any help and support in there.

Thank you Geeky. My little angel (Anna) has had her three hour kip and has woke herself for her feed without any issues. Seems to be settling back in to her Moses basket now. Wish she was like this on an evening!

Thank you for the tip too! She poos sufficiently but not had an explosions up the back yet....

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 22/02/2015 14:22

Congratulations purpletoes and blank. Purple that's a lovely name (we obviously have the same taste in names), there's now two baby Alice's on the thread.

tonight hope Annie gets better soon.

lancs hope things go better today.

Memphisbelly · 22/02/2015 15:20

Geeky Grin no white socks here! But that yellow poo don't half stain! As he had constipation in first few days bow when ds has a poo he thinks he hasto force it out so now he forces and it sounds like a gun goes off Grin

BanglesSpangles · 22/02/2015 16:22

Congrats blank and purple, and welcome popsicle :)

I have been peed on twice in a 12 hour stretch- seemingly i havent learned the valuable lesson of 'get nappy on asap'

purpleteapig · 22/02/2015 16:27

Haha bangles I'm too slow with the nappies too - baby peed on his own face earlier. His expression directed at me was shocked outrage as if I'd done it to him! It cracked me up.

tiredvommachine · 22/02/2015 16:29

I've been pee'd on loads, especially at night when I'm not quite as on guard through sleep deprivation! Grin

BanglesSpangles · 22/02/2015 17:23

Ha- yeah it does make it worse that i find it hilarious every time... Think i woke my DH up giggling yesterday!

loopsyloup · 22/02/2015 18:16

Welcome Popsicle and congrats Purple and Blank!

My mw recommended undoing the nappy and letting them get a bit of cold air on their bits and then close the nappy again - apparently the cold air often makes them wee and this way the old nappy catches it. Have so far managed to avoid getting wee on me, but instead am getting milk-vommed on a very regular basis - am using up all the blankets for her and pyjamas for me 'cod of course it only happens in the middle of the night when dp is fast asleep and not helping!

Currently my two are both lying on the floor watching a really long Tom and Jerry dvd. Quite cute actually, though funny how big the 2yo seems next to the 2 week old.

Am also struggling with evening cluster feeds. Apparently milk supply dwindles when you're tired (so that's all day then...) and someone recommended expressing in the morning so that you can give a bottle in the evening. Haven't tried it myself but might be worth a go.

L1ttleMissGiggles · 22/02/2015 18:49

Congrats blank and purple. What lovely news but I am so jealous! Nothing happening here no pains or twinges or anything that says it will be happening any time soon. Grrrr. Hurry up baby!

Grinningcat · 22/02/2015 19:57

Nothing happening here today either Littlemiss. DH took me on a drive so I could get out of the house and we went over lots of bumps and speed humps. I've jumped around a bit, done squats, and gone up and down stairs a lot. I've lost a bit more plug and that's it. Still none of it has hurt me and it beats twiddling my thumbs.

I think my big problem with waiting is that I have absolutely nothing planned for the week ahead (apart from Mw appt on Tuesday) as I'd figured that this week I'd either be coping with a newborn, or would be imminently going into labour. I am also getting marginally sick of my DDad calling every day at 11am to see "if I'm okay and if anything is happening"...

Surf25 · 22/02/2015 20:07

Congrats blank and purple! Lovely news! Well done! And empathy to those still waiting like me! Just 2 days over and trying to just be patient! Was five days over with one of the girls. Welcome popsicle we have a dd Anna too so am biased at your name choice! Smile lovely to have you on board
Hope everyone who already has their lo has a more restful night and those of us waiting don't have too long now! The end is in sight. Though of course it's only really the beginning....!!!

L1ttleMissGiggles · 22/02/2015 20:34

I am the same grinning thought the baby would be here by now as I was due last Tuesday. I finished work 3 weeks ago and feel like I could of gone in longer so I could of had more time with the baby. I too have midwife on Tuesday will be having a sweep then if nothing has happened. I am keen to go to birthing centre rather than main hospital so I am really hoping that I don't have to be induced. Hopefully our babies will arrive soon. Like you I'm not sure that I can put up with much more of "why isn't baby here yet?".

Purpletoes · 22/02/2015 23:31

Woo hoo getting home. Just waiting for dp to come pick us up.

Thank god for dgps who again hold fort for ds whilst we come home. Ah sleep in my own bed! SmileSmileSmile

tiredvommachine · 22/02/2015 23:43

Really can't wait until my sling arrives so can get on with stuff with both hands, not just with one with the other clutching hold of ds Blush
anyone else feel reluctant to put their baby down or is it just me?

freneticfox · 22/02/2015 23:48

Tiredvom - I have a boba sling but can't use it yet thanks to section wound still healing. I can't wait to try it though.

Night time... Dread reappears! All of my night Google searches involve some kind of incarnation of 'help my baby settle'. Yay FTM!

Currently scratching my head. Full baby, clean nappy, winded, warm, etc and he's still just grumbling and moaning.

JacktheLab · 23/02/2015 01:00

Morning all!

Those who are being peed on, with ds we used to keep a muslin to hand and then just placed that over the crotch as soon as the nappy was opened, stopped any pee from getting too far! It's one of the advantages with girls so far is the lack of flying pee Wink

Frenetic, hope you have gotten back to sleep? I wonder if your boy just isn't ready to go back to sleep yet? Does he sound upset or is he just talking away to you?

I'm trying to get little miss to sleep in the Moses basket, I'm failing....

tiredvommachine · 23/02/2015 01:13

Good idea jack re the muslin.
My moses basket is downstairs in my dining room and ds is asleep on me.
Bad mum Sad

GeekyHybrid · 23/02/2015 01:38

Murphy's law is alive and kicking, now that OH is back work LO fed 10-1130 non stop with loads of grizzling and a nappy change. Took 2 attempts to get him down in the moses basket and now we're up having changed nappy twice (picked him up in the clean one and he promptly squitted loudly) and now we're feeding Sad OH's alarm goes off in 3 hours so he's going to be even grumpier tomorrowConfused

Glad you're home purple.

And for all those with boys I second having the muslin to hand for changes! Works for the wee anyway Wink
