frenetic
I'm laid in bed with DS fast asleep on my shoulder. I know I need to lay him down so I can try and get some sleep before he wakes up in about an hour for another feed.
Am BF but it's really uncomfortable. I bf my daughter 14 years ago with no issues but am struggling this time as ds sometimes latches really badly and it hurts when he starts and then my boob throbs for ages afterwards.
My MIL is suggesting going on to bottles but im going to try and ride it out for at least 6 weeks before reassessing.
I wish I could sleep for hours but haven't slept through since I was about 5 months pregnant.
I know it won't last forever and this is the only thought that sustains me.
Keep your chin up Flowers

He's finally here and is adorable. Can't stop looking at him. Hardest thing I've ever done but the prize at the end is truly rewarding! Love every 8lbs 7 ozs of him. Will update and catch up on all news properly tomorrow!

Purple, hope things kicked off for you again.

tiredvommachine · 22/02/2015 02:57

Ooh, We lasted two hours without eating!

tiredvommachine · 22/02/2015 02:58

Congratulations blank Flowers

Purpletoes · 22/02/2015 03:35

She is here. Arrived at 1.28. Perfect. No name yet. Got to labour ward for just before 12 so was quick just tens and gas and air.

Afterbirth pains are a bitch. GrinGrinGrin

Will catch up tomorrow. Xxx

thingsarelookingup · 22/02/2015 04:41

Congratulations purple and blank. I look forward to hearing how it all happened.

tiredvommachine · 22/02/2015 06:11

feeding again!
Congratulations purpleFlowers

donkir · 22/02/2015 07:00

Congratulations purple and blank. Hope your recovering well.

freneticfox · 22/02/2015 08:15

Congratulations Purple and blank, what lovely news to read while doing am expressing session!

Last night felt a bit better. DH thinks 40 mins to settle him back to sleep is too long whereas I think it's great... Who's right?!

trukevoli · 22/02/2015 08:16

Congratulations Purple and Blank! Hope you are both feeling ok.

x

GeekyHybrid · 22/02/2015 08:20

Congratulations purple and blank, looking forward to hearing more. Hope you have both managed some rest.

Been a tough week here, bigger twin Annie has not been very well, she has coughed and coughed and keeps going blue. Really scary but docs said nothing they can do. Offered to admit her onto children's ward for observations but I feel she is better off at home. Fingers crossed we are over the worst.

Still finding feeding both of them really hard especially through the night but not sure what to do for the best.

Hubby goes back to work tomorrow after 4 weeks off and I am terrified!!

Grinningcat · 22/02/2015 08:35

Congratulations purple and blank. Really really jealous. Looking forward to hearing more later.

whyo I must admit it didn't occur to me to ring the labour ward about my migraine as it was a typical migraine for me (I usually get them regularly but have had a lovely respite during pregnancy), not even a really bad one, and now I'm fully recovered it kind of seems bit silly to call. If I get any other headaches or migraines though I will. I'm dreading getting one with a newborn though.

longbottom · 22/02/2015 08:56

Congrats purple and blank!! I'm so ruddy jealous I could cry!!

Grinningcat · 22/02/2015 09:01

long I know exactly how you feel.

LancashireTea · 22/02/2015 09:03

Well last night ended up as a bit of a disaster. The pessary was working too well and after pains of around 7.5 I had to start in the paracetamol and was almost writhing with the constant contractions that were ramping up a lot in frequency and pain level.
They put me on the monitor at half 12. But by 3.30 they were not happy with the contractions so took the pessary out as it was making my womb hypersensitive and it wasn't relaxing at all.
Then they finally let me get some sleep (cannot sleep on my back sat up at all). And now the contractions have completely stopped and back to square one. Absolutely gutted that I spent all day in pain for nothing. Don't know what the doctor will say today but am starting to dread the whole thing. Sad

freneticfox · 22/02/2015 09:05

I hope the Dr can give you some good news Lancashire, thinking of you!

Honeybird · 22/02/2015 09:09

Congratulations blank and purple can't wait to hear more!

Thinking of you Lancashire, sounds extremely frustrating...

donkir · 22/02/2015 09:45

Frenetic your definitely right. 40mins is good going in my book.

Lancashire I hope you have a better day.

Rubbish start to the day. Logan decided to not only wee all over the bed but poohed too. The mattress is soaked. Then oh decided to complain id not washed his work shirts. That went down like a ton of bricks I can tell you!

JacktheLab · 22/02/2015 09:54

Congrats blank and purple :)

Frenetic, 40 mins is brilliant, usually takes around an hour and a half after feeding to get her to go back to sleep, although we are having more awake times during the day, so I'm seeing that as a win - got to grab onto what you can ;)

Lancashire, hope things get going again for you, sounds like a tough day :(

Tonight, hope Annie gets better really soon!

Hope everyone has a good day today, I got some errands to run then my inlaws are coming for lunch, I've made soup, salmon pate and a frankly badly iced chocolate cake, bread is in the machine, there better not be any complaints!

blankfornames · 22/02/2015 09:57

Yay! Congrats Purple!!

purpleteapig · 22/02/2015 09:58

Congrats blank & purple!

That sounds very stressful Tonight - hope she's better soon. It's horrible when they're ill, especially when they're so little.

Lancs - Hope things kick off soon!

Feeling knackered today as baby has been unsettled and grizzly for hours, feeding for like 5 mins, then dropping off followed by crying fits. Also I have developed mastitis. Anyone have this or have any tips? I've been expressing after feeding that side to ensure breast is emptied, but won't that lead to over supply on that side?

Honeybird · 22/02/2015 10:06

Yes it will purpletea, wouldn't recommend! Massage the sore area while feeding, like you're pushing the milk towards the nipple, and try using different positions as baby might not be emptying you evenly.

freneticfox · 22/02/2015 10:45

Purple - try a hot flannel across your breast either just before or as you massage - it was a saviour for me while I was in hospital at the start of the week and unable to express!

Tiredvom - Hope you managed to get something resembling sleep or at the very least 'eyelid time out'!

My double pump arrived yesterday (Ameda Lactaline) and I'm now an expressing machine. Who knows how long I can realistically keep it up, but at the moment I feel pretty good about how much I'm producing (usually between 150-200ml in a 20 min sitting every few hours during the day). When I cuddle with LO while waiting for a bottle to warm though, it still hurts my heart to see him root towards me. He hasn't magically learned to BF and I know it's just a reflex but meh. Still feel a bit let down by post-birth BF support.

Popsicle30 · 22/02/2015 11:08

Hi All.

Congrats to Purple and Blank on your new arrivals - great news.

I have been lurking and decided to join in the thread. My baby girl was actually due on 2nd March but arrived three weeks early on 8th February.

I feel like my current experience is matching others at the moment. During the day my baby girl is an angel but on an evening she just wants to feed all night!

I am breastfeeding and in the back of my mind I'm questioning whether she is getting enough? Or whether it's wind?

During the day she feeds every 3ish hours for approx 30 - 60 mins. From around 10pm at night though she just wants to be on the breast. She'll feed then fall asleep but a soon as i put her down she either stirs straight away or approx 20-30 minutes later. I sometimes try leaving her to see if she'll go back over but eventually it turns to a full on cry. I'm not sure if she's hungry or she's using it for comfort (she is feeding) or whether she's uncomfortable when she's put down? She sleeps fine in the moses basket during the day.
I manage to get the odd half hour sleep and then at around 6am she goes off to sleep properly.

I have sent my parents out to get me a breast pump this morning to see if i can express and try to get this in to her of an evening. That way i'll be able to see how much she's taking.

Any other suggestions?

I can sympathise with those that are experiencing similar things. I'm hoping this is a newborn phase...
