Our first thread on the 'other side'. And may all our soon to be mummies join us in this adventure through the early days of parenthood as we continue to share exciting times.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Don't feel useless, he's just not tired, he might just not want to sleep, he wants to be up and busy maybe?

If your scar still hurts, speak to your midwife or your go, you can get more pain killers. Ask your partner for help, yes he's let you sleep earlier, but you need his help now too, you can't be up in the night by yourself struggling. I'll bet he'd be so upset if he thought that you were trying to struggle through on your own.

Brilliant phrase I think is, this too shall pass. I honestly don't remember it being this hard with my ds, it must have been, but the human brain is a funny thing and I just remember the latter months from about two or three months when he slept better and interacted with me x

BanglesSpangles · 20/02/2015 09:28

Elloo!
Frenetic, deffo tell your dh you need the extra sleep- jack's right, i bet he'll be gutted if he knew!

We are up, bathed and breakfasted. Best friend is coming over at half 10, so i had to get organised, as opposed to still being in my pjs at midday! Then im off to the dentist to try and fix my wrecked gums

Grinningcat · 20/02/2015 09:49

Well reflexology didn't kick anything off in the night. However she said that from my feet, I was ready to pop and was well balanced and in good shape, apart from my sinuses ( always a problem), achy shoulders (also always a problem), needing to pee, and oh yes I'm pregnant Grin. Apparently I give out great calming energy - so fingers crossed I keep that up after the baby is born and I get a chilled out LO! At least with being one of the last FTM to give birth on this thread means the rest of you are keeping me realisticGrin.

Memphisbelly · 20/02/2015 09:56

Frenetic you are recovering from a major operation ask your dh for help, I couldn't sit up in bed for 10 day luckily mw had told me not to sit directly on them so sitting in bed was impossible she also told dh I needed to recover from labour and needed more sleep than normal dh did every feed in the might while on leave and by the time he went back to work he looked like a zombie but I was recovered and ready to take over.

Remember our dont know night and day, by week 3 ds was settling better at night it will get better he has a lot to learn he has only been in the world a week

blankfornames · 20/02/2015 10:00

Grinning, I'm also a first timer who is yet to pop! One day over today...let's hope it happens quickly and soon for us!

GeekyHybrid · 20/02/2015 10:03

Frigging crappy morning here, I was trying to get myself, my breakfast on a tray and little Isaac comfy on the sofa so that I could feed him (and myself). Was maneuvering little man into position when I realised he'd pooed, a lot - enough to go up his back and through the bodysuit and sleep suit. So I tried to get back off the sofa holding him and without pulling my healing stitches except the f*in breakfast tray went over, tea and cereal milk all over the sofa Angry Sad My response at least got OH out of bed! He sorted Isaac whilst I cleaned the sofa, needless to say everyone's breakfast was delayed Sad.
Also, does anyone else's LO do cluster nappy filling? I think it's now 4 nappies in 2 hours Shock

OP posts:
GeekyHybrid · 20/02/2015 10:10

grinning the calm thing makes me giggle. Everyone keeps going on about Isaac being such a calm placid baby and how it must be because I'm so relaxed / chilled except that's obviously BS as I've never done calm in my life! And they're not trying to change his nappy at 3am - they'd soon change their opinion Wink Good luck on things moving soon for you, the waiting is a killer.

OP posts:
freneticfox · 20/02/2015 10:31

Calm? What's calm! Had a chat with DH, he's going to take LO out for a walk later so I can catch up on some snoozing.

Have a hungry monster this morning.. Already guzzled nearly 200ml of EBM since 8am..can bottle fed still cluster feed?

Also, anyone else have issues with a grumpy baby with nappy changes? He grumbles, flails, and eventually cries every time we have a change. He stops as soon as we're done though.

Side note, so proud of my other kids... The cats. They had a bit of sniff the first few days but have gone back to their usual routine without any misbehaving. Hoping at some point they'll get curious!

L1ttleMissGiggles · 20/02/2015 11:09

Another FTM here that's waiying for bubba to make an appearance. 40+3 now and getting impatient. No signs of Bubba wanting to budge! X

donkir · 20/02/2015 11:20

3 weeks tomorrow here and things are just beginning to settle down with feeding and sleeping. Logan was getting fussy about 4 till 9 every day but introduced infacol on weds and it's made a huge difference. We had a lovely day yesterday and he's slept 6hrs solid the last 2 nights. I've also introduced a different dummy which seems to be working. I feel like I can finally see a light at the end of the tunnel.

GeekyHybrid · 20/02/2015 11:23

frenetic ours 'creates' every nappy change too. I think it may be cos of the temperature change. Basically he's only happy whilst on someone (luckily anyone will do) or zonked out when we can put him in his basket Hmm
littlemissgiggles drink hot cups of tea whilst you can! Grin

Super happy proud mummy here. Just been to have the heel prick test and been told how strong Lochie is and having just had him weighed he has gone from 6lb5oz to 6lb3oz to 6lb10oz.

Plus have managed to get him settling in the cot so feeling human today!

Stitches are killing me but apparently should get better from today, day 6 but we shall see.

L1ttleMissGiggles · 20/02/2015 12:06

Funny you should say that geeky currently sat here with a cuppa and watching rubbish day time tv! Can't wait to join all you Mummies. X

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 20/02/2015 13:13

HV was OK as far as HVs go. Was more concerned than MW over her weight though. Said she'll be back in two weeks because midwife will be back next week.

Memphisbelly · 20/02/2015 16:31

Truk apparently day 6 is when stitches start shrinking so become tighter before they dissolve mine were really painful in one area. It does seem to be bad then the next day eases right off.

Frenetic yes mine hates nappy change i think boys cry more at it as they don't like their bits getting cold, he screams like a bsnshee then as soon as you lift him up he stops.
Regarding the grizzling at night is he winding ok? Mine doesn't give up his wind for ages we try every position and only over last week he now burps a bit easier, if we don't wind him he snorts and witters through night.

So went to sainsburys and got some up to 1 month babygrows and he can now stretch his legs again. First time npbeing out (apart from school run) where we got lots of attention, lots of old ladies cooing over him and ds1 telling all of them how he had a poo like a cannon and it shot all over mummy ....delightful child

Went to sling library it was really busy, baby was screaming and put him in a ring sling and he zonked out straight away, I wanted to rent it for 2 weeks but they wanted full payment for item (£55) as deposit and didn't have card facilities so had to leave it, on ebay there are different brands for £20-£30 so may get one there.

BanglesSpangles · 20/02/2015 17:31

Whoop whoop, the caboo's here! Already had a go with it and Sid seems happy, so its a win so far :)

Memphisbelly · 20/02/2015 17:35

Bangles fantastic! I have been googling ring slings all afternoon and none are stretchy like the one I tried so just emailed lady to get one

longbottom · 20/02/2015 20:54

Still no baby, 39+2 now!
Bought some clary sage oil, about to get in the bath with some in, fingers crossed it starts something!

Grinningcat · 20/02/2015 21:19

Probably TMI, but in the last 2 hours I've had what I'd swear were three contractions albeit completely bearable and a loose bowel movement. They could all just mean I've had a spot of indigestion this evening, but could also point towards things moving along... Probably the former, but Fingers crossed.

Purpletoes · 20/02/2015 21:24

39+4 today. Have had some pains but not regular and not sure if just bowel or uterus. Have resigned myself to induction Monday now.

I have been massaging belly with oil and a bit of clary sage but as its from when I had my ds 3 years ago I am sure it's lost its potency. Wink

Good luck grinning and longbottom

Grinningcat · 20/02/2015 21:34

Anyway the chances of LO arriving on my due date which is tomorrow, are infinitesimal so it's probably just indigestion. Feel absolutely fine inbetween though.

Quick query - My next Mw appt is Tuesday when I'll be 40 + 3. So far no-one has mentioned sweeps or anything. DH was just asking if the Mw would arrange for one if nothing has happened for later in the week or if the Mw would actually do a sweep there and then. Do sweeps have to take place at the hospital or can the community Mw carry them out?

L1ttleMissGiggles · 20/02/2015 21:44

grinning I will be having a at sweep at local doctors surgery on Tuesday by community midwife if nothing has happened before then. I will be 41 weeks then. She told me at my 40 week app that she woud do it next week if need be. Keeping fingers crossed that I wll have a baby in my arms by then though. There can't be many of us left now waiting on our arrivals. X

Purpletoes · 20/02/2015 21:48

I had my sweep with my midwife in diabetic clinic with this lo. And with my community midwife in gps with my ds.

Sorry if this is tmi Still having irregular pains and just been to toilet and when I wiped it was browny pink. No jelly or plug as such but hopefully going in the right direction! GrinGrinGrin

Not had any discharge since sweep on Monday.

WhyOWhyWouldYou · 20/02/2015 21:48

grinning community MW can do them. For ftm they don't normally offer one until your at 40w. I'd take a pad with you to appointment so if she does one (probably will), you can put it in your underwear in case of blood (can get a bit sometimes).

Memphisbelly · 20/02/2015 21:56

Purple lets hope this is the start for you.

Grinning they do them at docs and some mw's will come to your house to do one.
