Happy birthday Geeky!

And happy mother's day to all of you ladies, hope you're all having a lovely day xxx

Addictedtocustardcreams · 15/03/2015 12:23

Happy birthday to geeky. Hope everyone is enjoying their first mothers day with the new arrivals.
My MIL is coming this afternoon, so mine will not exactly be relaxing! She is very well meaning but a bit hard work & gets a bit mental about small babies.

tweety89 · 15/03/2015 13:55

Happy birthday geeky and happy mother's day everyone!
It's been a bit hectic for us the past couple of weeks...Baby Jason is anaemic mainly because of the ABO incompability that he has with my blood group but we haven't been told whether this is going to be for life or it's something temporary as his red blood cells are still fighting mine...Next blood test on Thursday. Fingers crossed it's stable at least... :(

Right..Im finally caught up here! This thread is a fast moving one!
Happy Birthday Geeky. Happy Mother's Day to all you Legendary Mothers!!

Things are definitely brighter here. He's still quite demanding but then again he is only 3 weeks old. I do miss 'my time' but wouldn't change anything for the world.

For those of you EBF, how often and how long are your feeds? Im just hoping that DS is putting on weight. He has maybe 3 long feeds a day (lasting 40mins to 2 hrs) and rest are small 5 or 10 min grazes. Is this enough. He sleeps for about 4 hrs at night. Should I be waking him up for a feed during this time?

Lastly, I have an electric pump. What bottles are best to use? I've heard good reports about Dr. Brown but how do they differ to Avent?

Thanks...hopefully he's settling ever so slightly..I hope to get on here a little more often!!

Addictedtocustardcreams · 15/03/2015 15:51

blank the breastfeeding people here always say to look at how baby is- do they seem satisfied after feeds, do they have at least 6 wet nappies a day & a couple of dirty ones - if yes to all that then not to worry about what the feeds are like as all babies different. DS is feeding less than DD did & for shorter times but is doing everything else ok so think it is just different with a different baby!
Plus if you are getting 4hrs in the night I would need a major reason to disrupt that!!
As for bottles have no idea as it was a total arse trying to get DD to take one. We ended up with Dr Browns but they are a pain to wash if that helps with your decision making!

Addictedtocustardcreams · 15/03/2015 15:51

Am reading this post while hiding from MIL. She has just told me she likes my trousers then asked if they are pyjamas!!

blankfornames · 15/03/2015 16:57

Thanks for that Addicted! As for the pj remark...FFS!!!!

RedSal · 15/03/2015 21:00

Belated Happy Mothers' Day all, and happy birthday to geeky. My best present was a lie in till 815....hurray! We have actually had 2 or 3 good nights after 4 horrible ones. Let's hope it's the bad ones that were the 'phase' not the good'uns.

Memphisbelly · 15/03/2015 21:15

Happy birthday geekyhopecyou have had a lovely day

Blanks the Tommee Tippee ones are suppost to be ones most like a nipple, Dr Browns are time consuming to clean and dismatle/put back together but are apparently good for a colicy baby and also £££ compared to others.

I made brisket of beef for tea and had mum over, it was lovely, saw mil this morning, her house is always baltic, we went to wilkos after just to warm up as we were shivering Shock for mothers day I got a necklace, flowers, a plant, a mummy plaque, a moonpig card with the boys on and a mug.....I think dh wanted to cover all corners Grin he then ripped up our patio and decking, garden looks like a building site, im ordering a patio this week and will jetwash existing path and then need to weigh up real grass or artificial, with 2 kids and a dog real grass may be a losing battle as drainage is a problem here too.

Dh has his appointment to discuss the snip first thing at docs. Then he is away all week for first time since LO arrived, im very worried about coping with 2 on my own, night shifts, school run and work 2 days this week.

LO sobbed for 90 mins this aftermpnoon it was horrid, dh was outside and I totally freaked worried about not coping

Memphisbelly · 16/03/2015 08:19

Dh has got his appointment for the snip on may 14th Grin he sounded so worried when he called me! Wimp haha

Honeybird · 16/03/2015 09:44

Argh witching hour seems to be spreading to the rest of the day. Baby must be in arms or feeding to be happy. On the plus side I tried the dummy yesterday and was surprised to find she took to it pretty much straight away. With other two dummy was a battle and they took to it much later. I think. Don't remember exactly, it's all a bit of a blur now...

sandulacek · 16/03/2015 09:57

Memphis hope you're feeling better. Maybe your mum can help while your DH is away.

blank my lo feeds between 5 and 30 mins usually. All amounts to about 2.5 to 3 hours a day. I went to weigh her last week and she put on her weight so she must be doing fine.

Had an annoying baby during the night, she woke up at 2 for a feed, then was so fidgety and fisty that she wasn't getting much so went to change her but that didn't help. DH heard me huffing and puffing so took her to calm her down after which she fed ok. Back to bed at 3.40...grrr

donkir · 16/03/2015 11:42

Witching hour is also a day long process here too. He just screams all day. People keep saying well at least he's good at night which really isn't helping. I just need a break away from him during the day.
He's really suffering with wind from the bottom end which I don't think has been helped by the lactolouse. Plus he has a rash all over his head and face.
Off for our 6week check today so hopefully doctors will suggest something to help.

LancashireTea · 16/03/2015 15:57

Not a good say here today. We are all full of colds and madam hasn't settled well for the last couple of nights unless it's in our bed. She's been awake since 11 and has thrown up a lot today after every feed. Every time she drops off and I place her in her pram or basket she wakes and screams. We've burps her, changed her and cuddled her but she only wants to feed (and then overfills her belly and pukes up).
Been bad and offered her a dummy. We'd tried with a tommy tippee one but she refused it. This is an advent one and she's ducking greedily and has gone down at last. Don't know if she will sleep properly though. Confused
As a Ftm I'm now just a bit worried as I am am EBF (have goven expressed milk twice) thay I've suggested myself into a hole of boobs refusal and messing up my supply as she's only 3 weeks old, but she is ravaging my Nipples with constant suckling and clearly is overfeeding as she's sick. Argh!Sad

RedSal · 16/03/2015 18:42

Has anyone else heard of this 4-6 week crying peak? And those with babies 6 wks old already - do you think it matches your experience? Ben is 4 weeks tomorrow and has definitely been more cry-y and grizzly for the last few days and am wondering if I 'just' need to put up with it for 2 weeks or if he is becoming a more grumpy and less charming baby full-stop! I noticed a few of you talking about day-long witching hours etc - are your babies this kind of age?

donkir · 16/03/2015 18:52

RedSal my lo was 6weeks on Saturday and if definitely say this has been going on for a few weeks. I thought maybe it was because I'd switched to formula but after reading up a bit on my apps it seems quite common in babies this age and should calm down at about 2 months.

BanglesSpangles · 16/03/2015 19:16

Happy belated birthday geeky, and happy belated mothers day all

Ive got a sore throat and LO was seriously snuffly and coughing last night- i was going to take him to the doctors today, as Id read that that's what you should do with babies that are under three months old and colds, but he's been absolutely fine today so now I don't know what to do- bet he's going to be snuffy all tonight again!

tonightsthekindofnight · 16/03/2015 19:30

Lancashire, I bf my eldest two for 15 months and am feeding the twinnies and all four had a dummy from week 1. I never had any problems with confusion or supply. All four of them seemed to get great comfort from sucking, and as much as I don't like them, dummies have been my saviour!!

loopsyloup · 16/03/2015 19:53

Lancs - I wouldn't worry about occasional expressing and bottles interfering with bf, I did that with dd1 and didn't have any supply problems. It's just like one extra feed everyone and then, although I'm trying to get into a routine with expressing in the morning so my dp can give dd2 a bottle in the evening, but not managing it yet!

Bangles - colds are ok in the long as they don't go on for too long. Though of course if you are worried then do take the lo to the doctor!

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping my lo manages to sleep from 11 to 4 like she did last night! It was amazing.

BanglesSpangles · 16/03/2015 20:07

Thanks loops- it doesnt seem to be bothering his feeding, so I'll just keep an eye on it for now- just sounds horrible when he's snorting and coughing away in the night- did seem a bit weird that the advice was to go to the docs... Not sure what he'd be able to do

LittleMissSunshine33 · 16/03/2015 20:38

Memphis can anyone stay with you whilst OH is away? I'm sure you will surprise yourself I have when OH has stayed away.
Regarding artificial grass we have ours done and I wasn't sure about it but looks very real and hassle free!

Redsal don't say that my LO has not let me put him down and he's 4 weeks on Wednesday Aargghh!

I've been bfing expressing formula feeding and using a dummy off and on and LO hadn't been confused and as I've been expressing or bfing at the same times each day my supply has not been affected ... touchwood Blush

Memphisbelly · 16/03/2015 20:53

Littlemiss thats good to hear about the grass, its actually what dh does for a living, he maintains sports pitches in schools, prisons and gyms but his company does fit garden grass too, think we will go for it if his company get us a decent price.
Regsrding him being away he went away when ds1 was 2 weeks old so we have been lucky to get this far without a stop over but wish we got weaned in with a night or 2 not a week. I would be ok normally but with mothers day and going out and sbout over weekend the house isn't as tidy as I sould like and the garden looks like a building site so the mess is freaking me out, luckily LO has let me have my arms for an hour so been cleaning windows in kitchen and sorting washing up.

thingsarelookingup · 16/03/2015 21:35

Wish me luck tonight. I'm trying in infacol for the first time. Ella has never gone more than 2 hours between feeds at night and often wakes with wind rather than hunger.

freneticfox · 16/03/2015 23:05

There's a peak in crying?! Gawd I hope so. Is there a peak in grizzling? LO is a grizzler.

I finally plucked up the courage to have a good look at my body, four weeks after the section. It's not AWFUL, but oh god... I hope I can work on that flap...

Memphisbelly · 16/03/2015 23:11

Frenetic, by body is...ok but I want a flat tummy again, im pretty sure I have at least one hernia so dont dare exercise yet will speak to my doc on 6 week check on weds.....my friends had 2 sections, doing the davina dvd sorted her out......no fold or flap at all.
