Pony I use Sudocreme sparingly- have used it under her armpits which sometimes get sore from all the dribble that gathers there!! I think talc works just the same though.
E finally gave in to sleep after 2 boobs and over an hour of cuddling and white noise Smile

tattyblue · 06/02/2015 11:20

I've been meaning to ask about creases as well- her neck ones get a bit sore looking from dribble.

splendide we've got jabs today. Last time she slept for 13 hours. Is it awful to say that at moments I've been sort of looking forward to it?

FATEdestiny · 06/02/2015 11:39

DD has a large number of fat creases that get sore unless I keep on top of them Blush

Knee creases, thigh creases, under arms, under neck, behind ears then obviously nappy area.

I am very diligent about keeping them clean and dry. Wipes to clean morning and sponge bath evening. I use barrier cream (like sudocream) in the creases but I think just making sure they are regularly washed and dried is enough.

FlipFantasia · 06/02/2015 12:02

Fatpony I think talc isn't recommended due to the risks of breathing it in. We clean with a wet wipe (still mostly using cloth wipes - only use disposables when out), make sure it's dry and use bepanthen as necessary.

Sazzle hello! Hearing about N is one of my reasons for lurking (don't want to sound stalker ish lol!). Sorry the night sleeping is still bad but sounds like you have a good getting to bed routine (and hats off go doing it solo every night!).

FlipFantasia · 06/02/2015 12:06

Tatty hope she does a post jabs epic sleep! I'm gone all paranoid about jabs due to all the measles outbreak stuff over here. I'm not in Cali but have met moms doing delayed vaccines etc which never really bothered me until I realised their 3 year old hadn't had the mmr (putting my too-young-to-be-vaccinated-for-it-yet baby at potential risk!).

Buttwing · 06/02/2015 12:07

Hello

FlipFantasia · 06/02/2015 12:09

Ps pregnant if you're lurking sorry you've had to disappear. Hopefully you can sneak back on in some other guise. You often had me cracking up! As a mum of 3 I liked reading your posts (you too Fate!) though we are done at three (I'll probably always wonder about a fourth though...).

FlipFantasia · 06/02/2015 12:11

Buttwing I remember you!

Ok, 7.10am here. Time to get myself sorted and get the kids up. Yay for Friday!

Buttwing · 06/02/2015 12:25

flip aah it's nice you remember me!! :)

tattyblue · 06/02/2015 12:32

Just got the baby into her crib for a nap. It took 45 minutes, the rotter, but she caved eventually. She did that thing where as soon as I put her down she cried, as soon as I picked her up she fell asleep. Both frustrating and sort of hilarious.

flip I find the vaccination refusal stuff makes me so angry. When did people stop caring about other people's children? We're so lucky to live in a part of the world where crippling childhood illnesses like polio and diphtheria are basically unheard of, and I can't believe people would jeopardize that. They're really big on pushing the antenatal whooping cough vaccine here because some babies died last year, partly because of people not getting their older children vaccinated, and it terrifies me.

FATEdestiny · 06/02/2015 12:59

waves @ buttwing Smile Glad to see you on out new thread

I'm currently missing baby massage which starts in 5 minutes. Baby appears to be sleeping through it today. Will go late if she wakes up, looking unlikely though.

Re whooping cough - One of the schoolgate Mums I know, her youngest caught whooping cough aged just 3 weeks old. He was very, very seriously ill. Too young to have had the vaccination so definitely not the Mums fault he caught it. Irresponsible others who don't vaccinate Angry.

They also had an anti natal push for whooping cough vaccinations here. I had it when pregnant.

FATEdestiny · 06/02/2015 13:00

...our new thread, not out.

Buttwing · 06/02/2015 13:12

Not trying to be controversial, but why wouldn't you vaccinate? I just really really don't get it. If their is something we can to do which will stop young children (whether our own or other peoples) getting seriously ill and potentially worse why wouldn't you?
It baffles me it really does. My eldest (9) hadn't had chicken pox yet and I'm considering paying for the vaccination if she hasnt had it by the end of primary school. Spoken to a doctor friend who said it was a no brainer for her and both her boys were vaccinated when quite young against it.

Buttwing · 06/02/2015 13:13

Thanks fate :)

Buttwing · 06/02/2015 13:14

There not their Blush

tattyblue · 06/02/2015 13:49

buttwing although it's been comprehensively debunked the myth that vaccinations cause autism is still knocking about. Also, reading about the measles stuff in America, there seems to be this idea of keeping children "pure" by not vaccinating them. I don't really understand what this means, since the immunity created by vaccines is physiologically identical to the immunity created by having the illness and surviving. I think also because these illnesses are so rare now it's easy to forget how severe they can be.

Re: chicken pox, I had it as an adult and it made me really miserable for about a month, so I'd say go for it. I had spots inside my mouth and on my eyelids. It was disgusting.

SlideIn · 06/02/2015 14:10

Hey Buttwing, yes I remember tooGrin welcome back.

My friends were having to decide about their daughter's jabs at the height of the controversy. They eventually went for it but it was terrifying at the time. It was a no-brainer for us. In fact I need to check when Alex's next round is...

FlipFantasia · 06/02/2015 14:54

The vaccines thing is so annoying in the states. Healthcare here involves a lot of choice (eg when I was looking for a doc for the kids spoke about 'interviewing' their potential doctors...I chose the one closest to our house/preschool for ease of logistics!). I think these parents think they are doing the best thing for their kids by choosing to delay or avoid vaccines. You can also find an online community to support your views no matter how out there. It's stupid and tragic. And angers me (not just for babies but also those with hiv or transplant patients or anyone vulnerable really). Stupid over-privileged people who don't know what killers and maimers these diseases are.

Fate your friend's baby Hmm - my mum still speaks with horror of seeing babies with whooping cough and really worrying they'd die. She was so happy to vaccinate us. I remember getting my mmr at 13. Even dh got the whooping cough booster before the baby arrived.

Twistedheartache · 06/02/2015 15:08

Hello everyone
Can I join the newbies/returnees - been lurking for ages for comfort that x,y & z is normal. Remember nothing from first time round it seems!
DD2 is 14 weeks & a complete angel compared to her sister as a baby.
Feel bad reading everyone's bedtime/evening routines. We're still very ad hoc but her bedtime is naturally getting earlier & hovering around the 8:30-9 mark

BettyJudy · 06/02/2015 15:17

Hi everyone. Nice to see oldies and lurkers

MundayCakes85 · 06/02/2015 16:13

Hello everyone, lovely to see a busier thread again. And great having new people and lurkers Grin Am enjoying hearing everyone's routines as well.
Just wondering if LO is waking in the night hungry does that mean she's almost ready to start with first foods?

splendide · 06/02/2015 17:03

I've had a brilliant afternoon. My mum took A out and he slept in his pram for 2.5 hours! I've had a bath and a snooze.

ohthegoats · 06/02/2015 17:13

Small went to sleep herself this morning - there was a bit of that sort of wailing crying, which isn't really 'crying' - I translate it as an Eeyore sort of 'woe is meeeee' moan - I went in the shower so I couldn't hear it. When I got out after about 5 minutes she was zonked out, and remained zonked out way beyond 45 minutes. To the point that we were late for swimming and I couldn't use my hairdryer and look like crap, but I didn't want to undermine her good work by wrecking her sleep early. I know, this is a 4 month old, I'm being ridiculous.

Probably she's making up for last night's appalling show of 'sleeping'.

ohthegoats · 06/02/2015 17:17

Oops.. not finished.

Her sleeping when she's ill/has a cold involves touching me - she MUST be touching me. It's not enough to be in my bed and nearby/close. So, after I've given up trying to get her to sleep in her own crib, I feed her lying down in bed so I can rest a bit too, then when she's well asleep I shift her a bit away from me. Immediately her little arms start wafting around - she's a side sleeper, so it's like some sort of collapsed zombie reaching out for something. If she doesn't hit a part of me in the first few seconds, it's immediate crying time. Ideally she'll hit a boob, but this means I don't get to sleep at all, so I'm now lying with my back to her in this really contorted shape so that she touches a shoulder and can feel my back against her feet. Again, ridiculous.

bexster5 · 06/02/2015 18:05

MundayCakes85 re hungry in the night, is baby ready for food? Official advice now says no. They only need milk til 6 months (unless prem). However... (and don't kill me please MN!) I AM feeding DD some baby rice as she is soooooooo hungry - waking 30 mins after going down throughout the night some nights. it seems to have improved matters a bit. Still got a lonnnnnng way to go - evenings and nights are terrible right now!
