xmasstocking · 15/11/2006 17:27

I found out about Josh and his giraffe by accident aswell - I gave it him yesterday morning to amuse himself whilst I did an exercise video and next thing I know, he had gone to sleep without needing his dummy or whinging - tried it again at lunch and so on...although maybe the sight of his fat mummy throwing herself round the lounge trying to do salsa aerobics was just too much for him

Have dug out Annabel Karmel's book which was given to me as a pressie when DH was born - how quickly that has come round. Have to say I am impressed with the variety of recipes in there and am really keen to get started but must wait till Josh is ready (keep repeating that to myself). Have heard that baby rice is crap so think I might give it a miss aswell - bungs them up - is that correct?

twinklemegan · 15/11/2006 17:31

What is supposed to be the benefit of baby rice and what exactly is it? (Sorry if this is an obvious question, but I spent most of the weaning talk thinking Aidan had pooed in his nappy so I couldn't really concentrate!) I've not really read up on weaning yet as it still seems so long off, though it's not really. I'm thinking I'd rather start him on 'proper' food like vegetables, etc.

xmasstocking · 15/11/2006 17:34

Twinkle - no expert so maybe the experienced mums can help - but my guess is that it is supposed to be a good first food as it has the consistency of solid food but mixed with breast/formula milk so still has the same taste that babies are used to?

twinklemegan · 15/11/2006 17:37

Ah yes, that rings a bell! Sounds pretty horrible to me!

FestiveAtForty · 15/11/2006 17:40

yes that's what they said at our weaning talk, mixed with milk to varying degrees it can gradually get them used to something with a thicker consistency.

maewest · 15/11/2006 18:16

Also I think that baby rice may be fortified with vits and minerals (could be completely wrong?)

Went shopping today, got a couple of tops and a pair of jeans (size 14 ). DS has pooed FIVE times today so far. The last 3 feeds he's squeezed out a sloppy greenish one each time (tmi I know), don't know what's going on, but he seems perfectly happy with it. He's also started ramming muslins and his fluffy cow into his mouth, then pulling a face when he tastes them

p.s. good to hear from you Koshka, sounds like you're feeling a bit better about things and your boy certainly seems to be a little wriggler

maewest · 15/11/2006 19:23

OK, concentrate hard mae, new pics of the little dude here

Wallace · 15/11/2006 19:32

Love the pics maewest - a lovely smiler. And the pic of josh & giraffe. My MIL just gave Leo a cuddly giraffe - I'll have to see if it works!

Went to baby massage for the first time today, and it was great! Four of us there all with baby boys - Leo was the oldest at 16 weeks, and the youngest was 12 weeks. Amazing to see the diffences - one of the babies rolls over everytime he is put on his front! Leo loved getting his feet rubbed, giggled and giggled

Wallace · 15/11/2006 19:34

And re weaning. I am going to wait til six months. I haven't set it in stone, but I get more determined everytime MIL suggests that Leo might be needing "a wee bit more than just milk now" and "he'll be having something by christmas"

twinklemegan · 15/11/2006 22:36

Right, we've had one about poo, now here's an equally delightful question about sick How often are your LOs sick and when? Recently Aidan has been being sick more and more often, not just after a feed but at any time really. The consistency changes though, from milk just after a feed, through curdled, up to completely clear and watery when he's not been fed for a while (TMI? ) He's getting through 3 or 4 changes of clothes a day at the moment. Is this normal?? He seems quite happy in himself and the HV isn't too concerned as he's gaining weight well, but I'm getting a bit worried about it now.

Just checking in for one last time, Good luck with raising your Lo I think I'll go it alone now.

Fed up with bitchy comments and past judgements, had this all at all girls high school, think I'll just focus on 'normal' family life

last words, babies will do what they want, when they want, and thats normal for them. Any other problems ask a health professional until you get the answer you want.

agalch · 16/11/2006 07:20

Morning ladies

Hey whats happened with Whitestar? Not sure if it's us or another thread thats upset her. Oh well hope she's ok. Good luck Whitestar if you check back in.

Love the pics of your ds mae,he looks huge.Eilidh has grown out of some of her 3-6 month clothes. Her body seems really long and vests are far too small so she's in 6-9 month vests atm. her sister was the same i seem to remember.

Re weaning i bypassed the baby rice.Just did fruit and veggies and mashed with some breast milk so it tasted the sameish iykwim.I did all my own food and dd1 was a great eater, ate loads and ate anything. But now has a terrible diet, she's only 2 and eats her big brothers take away kebab pizza etc.

Don't know if i'll have the same time to do all my own baby food this time, will see how it goes. Will be back childminding in January, getting inspected by the Care Commission and organising my wedding so may not be top of the list lol.

Eilidh hates being on her tummy,so we don't do that.If i lie in bed with her she rolls to face me in the night and snuggles up to my boobs.very sweet, enjoying motherhood loads atm with my 2 girls.

The boys are a different story but thats for another thread.

Anyway hope you got some sleep last night.I was sitting up in bed with Eilidh on my chest from 4am as she is so bunged up she struggled to breathe lying down.Better get ds1 in the shower, getting his braces out this morning,he's sooo excited.

take care xx

pinktinselanddollymixtures · 16/11/2006 08:36

Hello,

Agalch- It's awful when lo's are so bunged up that they cant sleep properly. Hope you are not too tired. I usually steam up the bathroom and go and sit in there for a bit with Jazz (it seems to work quite well). I hope she feels better soon!

Twinkle- I have found that all babies sick-up different amounts. My 3 have never been sicky babies, just the odd bit here and there. But I have friends whose babies were beibg sick for a past time (and smelt like it). I'm sure it's perfectly normal and wouldn't worry about it.

Figgy- Congrats on going so well with Evie.

Maewest- Lovely pics!

Well, Jazz had another good night in her cot, only woke up 3 times last night and was still there at 8:20 this morning.

Have a good day everyone, I will check in after i've been to see my rheummy.

oops sorry for the extra messages computer being slow!!

SleepInHeavenlyPeace · 16/11/2006 09:11

ooohh, bye Whitestar
also hope it wasn't this thread that upset you?
I have to say that I have noticed a huge amount of bitchiness on other threads which took me by surprise, and agree with the high school comment in those cases... completely unneccessary.

S is teething like mad, drool everywhere and waking every 1.5 hours [SHOCK]

usandourlittlexmascracker · 16/11/2006 09:21

Whitestar - So sorry you feel like that. Wishing you and your family a very happy future. We will all always do what we think is best for our children.

I'm off to Mothercare to get the reindeer suit, I think its great and like I said Zack hasn't got an all-in-one suit yet. He really needs one so we can leave the pram at home and use the carrier, he is sooooo nosey he loves it in there!

xmasstocking- great pics of Josh

Mae- I'm a buggy on the bus gal too, a bit of a pain waiting for a low floor one! Love the pics too!

Sleep- Good idea about giving veg first, I'll remember that. How is Sefton after his injections?

Bloss- My eating habits have been bad lately, like you I stopped losing weight and lost my momentum. Will have to be careful I'm not walking as much either.......

Festive- Emma's sleep routine is great, I'm very Zack is better than he was though, he has 3-4 good naps during the day in his cot and goes down at 7.30ish and wakes for a feed 2-3 times. Usually going straight back down.

Frosty- Hope you're feeling better?

Pink- I'm afraid I don't know anything about arthritis, but I do hope you're in the clear.

Kbaby- @ sweet and yeasty! Wait til we start weaning!

Wallace- I've been looking for a massage class but can't find one in my area. I'm thinking of buying a book and teaching myself.

Figgy- What a year it has been too!

Twinkle- Zack has days when he is sick alot and others not at all, the consistency really varies too.

Agalch- Been hearing some positive things about Farepak customers being given goodwill vouchers from some big stores- are you having any luck?

Krimbo- at protein bars, did you get away unscathed?!!

Zack rolled over from his tummy to his back for the first time last night, I was in the kitchen and missed it. I was gutted I couldn't help crying when dp told me!

SleepInHeavenlyPeace · 16/11/2006 09:24

US...
You are so good at the personal messages! (S was miserable the night after inkections but I think it was more because of his teething)...
I know what you mean about beinf tearful when you miss something , that is why I am resistant to send him to nursery. Being daft I know, but cant help it!

madness · 16/11/2006 09:58

Just a quicky in response to those "anti-baby rice" mums, I LOVE IT (to eat it myself that is)

usandourlittlexmascracker · 16/11/2006 11:48

Sleep- I'm dreading teething But at least it's the last of the injections for a while hey?! I do like to write little messages back to everyone, I really appreciate it when others do for me unfortunately it does mean I end up writing an essay I'm probably responsible for slowing the whole of Mumsnet down recently

madness- I must try it I don't know why I'm wary of using baby mixes, maybe it's because I'm a bit odd with food myself I had problems with food for years and I think I'm very conscious of ensuring Zack doesn't have the same issues. Mind you if I'm not careful maybe I'll go too far the other way.
Oh dear I do worry too much .........must go with the flow a bit more...........
