Us - what a result with work - you must be so relieved and happy - and now you can enjoy your maternity leave with your DS.

Can't help on the poo front as I am ff Josh so I am sure that makes his poo different anyway (from what I have heard, certainly more smelly!)

twinklemegan · 14/11/2006 16:10

Usand... - I like the sound of that approach to weaning. I read somewhere that after six months it can be more difficult to get them to take solids (I forget why, must find out) so I think I'd like to start a bit earlier, very gradually, just in case he doesn't take to it straight away. Also I'll be back at work in January (no, actually !) and I'd like to start with just a little solid food before that.
Re the poo issue - I'm mixed feeding Aidan so not sure if this is relevant, but he poos every two to three days. TBH I thought his poos were smelly even when he was fully b/f - sensitive nose, perhaps.
Oh God, he's woken up again - he's tired but just won't stay asleep today when I put him down. More screaming later, no doubt!

pinktinselanddollymixtures · 14/11/2006 16:27

Girls,

Am soo chuffed- I put up Jasmine's cot today (only 4 motnhs late). I then put her in it awake and she fell asleep for 30 mins!

This might not seem a grand achievement for those of you whose lo's are in their cots anyway. But Jazz has always been a funny sleeper. And has been in my bed since she was born.

Tonite I am gonna see if she will sleep in the cot...so wish me luck.

Us- I am totally with you on the weaning front, I think the Guidelines are just that (guidelines!). Really you should be led by your own child as they are individuals after all.

Great news about your job! And yes I have used the phrase "santa is watching" to my two.

Re- poo, Jazz still poos several times a day and still quite runny. But HV says that as long as it doesnt seem hard then your ok. Poo should be nice and soft at this stage. Some babies poo more than others, so I think its perfectly normal for him not to be going everyday. But I am not an expert (only going by my HV) and you know they can all give contrasting advice.

Re weaning- I never used a book with the others, just followed their lead really. Twinkle- My HV advised me to wait on weaning but said if I feel Jazz needs it then to start very slowly.

Well, am off to feed Jazz...

xmasstocking · 14/11/2006 16:40

Weaning - have just spoken to my friend who started her 13 week old son on baby rice today (!) - he is big (he was 10lb 4oz at birth) and still waking up at night and taking 7+oz so her HV has said to do it. But if you think about it, we were all probably weaned at 3 months and are fine - def want to get Josh started before I have to return to work (if I do) and preferably want it established before Xmas otherwise I will have mum/MIL giving their advice all over the holidays!

Pink ? good luck with the cot! Emma still hasn?t got a proper cot, she sleeps in a crib which is big enough at the moment but not for long I don?t think.

Usandbump ? congrats on the new job! That sounds like an ideal arrangement.

Re poo, Emma?s still only pooing once a week (but with plenty of hideous farts along the way !!) Consistency is less like curry sauce than it used to be (ie gloopy) ? it?s more like opaque paint, you know that ochre watercolour paint you get in tubes? nice.

Re weaning, at the HV talk I went to today they said that the NHS guidelines used to be to do it after 20 weeks, then the World Health Organisation recommended 26 weeks quite recently so the NHS have changed to that as well, but only as a general guideline. She did say that every baby is different and the most important thing is to look out for the signs that they are ready for weaning (eg not seeming satisfied after feeds, waking more often, looking hungrily at your chicken biryani etc) and go with what you think is right.

I think I?ll start trying it in mid December if she shows no obvious signs by then ? she?s 17 wks at the moment but will be 25 weeks when she goes into nursery at beginning of Jan so would be good to try it before then.

Re weaning book, we were given an NHS booklet at the talk ? haven?t read it yet though! There?s also a section on it in the NHS Birth to 5 book. I?ll have a look at what the Baby Whisperer says as well. The weaning recipe book which seems to be everywhere is the Annabel Karmel (?) one so I guess it?s good.

Koshka1984 · 14/11/2006 19:10

hey everyone

Kayzed - i have the same reindeer outfit i think, ive taken pics of jake in it for christmas cards, cos i cant afford presents!

Jake rolls over from front to back easily, and does 360degrees when hes in his cot.
He's 19 weeks i think - Born on 3rd July?

he rolls all the time and sits up really well. he keeps on trying to pull himself up, and he loves his bumbo.

hes been really ratchety lately i think hes getting teeth and hes got pink bits on his bot for the first time!

think thats it. I start work on Sat, and i am looking for a new job already!

tryed to read everyones messages but my eyes went funny and i cant remember who said what - but i do look at all pics, and coo over them, and show my mum!

Night x

figgypud · 14/11/2006 20:37

Hi all
Cant remember who said what so just goin to reply to what I can
Re; poo I was told as long as they are going at least once week & its not really dry thats fine but it changes for loads of reasons didn't sound like anything to worry bout!
Re; weaning I bought the A.karmel book: Good recipies!! I was told to start early by HV (16weeks I think!) as Evie was small and reflux was slowing down weight gain! Re when to start 2 meals I was told 2 weeks of one meal(b'fast), then add another meal(dinner) for two weeks then increase amount!
Pink Good luck with the cot move and congrats on the sleep! We've gone back a step today Evie was inconsolable so gave her my boob & it settled her to sleep but she'd def cutting a tooth peer lamb! Her cheek was bright red and hot this morning and shes got the runs a bit! Gave her a cooled teether and every time she tried to chew on it it made her cry! Bless!
Kayzed Fab pic soooo cute! I want that outfit now!

Better go and eat!
Night all

splatteredsnowball · 14/11/2006 21:04

Hi all

Quick post - as going to bed now, as my LO for some reason has decided to wake several times in night, but not for food. He does have a stinker tho... but he just will not sleep in the day without being rocked - after my postive post re blankie, it does seem to help now! Could it be that he needs weaning if he is not interested in milk ? - he has been like this now for a few weeks before jabs and cold, dont know where his hunger has gone.

Have been told a good book to get re weaning is Lorraine Kelly's around £6 on Amazon i think.

KrimKZ - you certainly know your stuff about cars and are obv a speed demon - sounds like you were in the wrong job! Perhaps thats why your Roshi's hair stands on end?!

ps forgot to say cuuuuuuute pic of Reindeer Roshi KZ, and lol at the sausage twitching on the barbie description, you'll have to remind her of that in years to come

usandourlittlexmascracker · 15/11/2006 08:16

Morning all

Poo- thanks for the reassurance, Festive your description was spot on

Pink- congrats re:cot, hope it continues for you, how did last night go?

KZ- Did you have a better night? It's a guessing game, I have just bought Zack a 1.0 tog grobag and he has slept brilliantly the last couple of nights. He was moving around and roling onto his side so much in his sleep that I think he was waking himself up, he can't really do that in the grobag.

Thank you for the book recommendations, I will order today. I'd like to skip the baby mix and start with fresh fruit and veg but I'm not sure what is best to start with. Zack isn't showing any signs of being ready yet though.

Where did you get the reindeer outfit? I've been looking for a Xmas outfit for a Xmas card pic. He could also wear it in his carrier as I haven't bought him an all in one. I need some pics to embarrass him when he is older

He is stirring so better get dressed before he wakes, I've managed a nice bath too!

pinktinselanddollymixtures · 15/11/2006 08:30

Morning all,

Am really pleased, Jazz stayed in her cot all night (she wouldn't even stay in her crib for 2 hrs, hated it!). I put her in there awake at 9:20 and she dropped off to sleep all on her own (I managed it without the boob Figgy). She woke up at 11:40 for a feed and have to admit she did drop off but she was fine again in her cot, till about 2:30, then about 4:30 and finally 7:00.

Each time I put her down she went to sleep, once she whinged a bit, but she was really good. To be honest I wasn't expecting her to stay there for very long at all.

I am actually feeling a bit better today, might venture out for a walk.

KZ- DD2 didn't roll for ages and I was getting quite worried but my Hv told me as long as she does it before 9 months then she is fine (dd2 was a chubby baby just like your Roshi, so perhaps it's just a side effect of being round .

Figgy- I would have done exactly the same in your position. If Jazz was so upset and nothing else could settle her, I couldnt leave her upset. I think at times like that it's ok. As long as you dont mind it. I'd rather sit there with a boob out and a happy contented baby, then trying to calm a screaming baby. Dont worry about it hon.

Koshka- Good idea with the christmas cards, I wanna get DH to do some for me aswell. I'm sure christmas gets more expensive every year. It's good to hear from you, good luck with your job search.

Well Jazz is whinging for me so best go, catch you later...

xmasstocking · 15/11/2006 08:36

Morning all

Us - I think I have got the same reindeer outfit for Josh that Roshi has got - I got mine from MOthercare and it is lovely and soft and fluffy - seems a shame to only wear it at Xmas really!

Pink - glad the night went ok - still not plucked up the courage to put Josh in his cot or even upstairs at night (until we go to bed) - he sleeps on a beanbag downstairs in the evenings - much to my mums horror - he is such a good sleeper that I think we are scared to change anything in case he starts waking at night.

KZ - how did the experiment with the water go?

xmasstocking · 15/11/2006 08:56

Just thought I would show you this - I have found the quickest way to get Josh to sleep - give him his giraffe and within 5 minutes, it is on his face and he is fast asleep - it worked all yesterday and this is him this morning. Not sure how safe it is but v cute and v v effective!! (I do remove the giraffe asap)

josh and his giraffe

pinktinselanddollymixtures · 15/11/2006 09:18

Xmas- Isn't that sweet! I friend of mine found out the best way to get her LO to sleep was to lay a blanket on his head, sounds really dangerous but it works. I just wonder how she found out that it worked

maewest · 15/11/2006 09:27

Morning all - DS only woke once for a feed last night so feeling much better. He also went back to sleep for an hour at 7.30 so I had shower (even washed hair, lovely) put a wash on and out on the line, loaded dishwasher and got some brekkie. Love it when it works out like that.

Poo - DS has habbit of a 2 poo installment first thing. He tends to wake up in a slightly khaki sloppy nappy, then has feed and does a bright yeller (sometimes whilst he is feeding ). Would love to have one of those who goes once a week!

Got to go now and feed the boy as I am venturing into town to go shopping today. Buggy on the bus, what fun

SleepInHeavenlyPeace · 15/11/2006 09:53

Xmas and Pink, Sefton also loves putting things over his face! He pulls his blanket or muslin over his face and then laughs and kicks his legs like a mad man! I do get a tad concerned about it.

He had his injections yesterday and is teething so was up every hour last night

re: weaning, someone told me it is a good idea to start them on the vegetables first, not fruit, as they might develop a sweet tooth getting fruit first. aaaaaaah, so my sweet tooth is not my fault!

Need a nap

morning girls.

Toby now wakes up every morning around 4am for milk and usually a complete change of clothes. he poos practically every feed, big, huge wet horrible ones, sorry for TMI. Don't know if this is left over from his bug. Last night at 4am I fed him, changed him, tip toed along the corridor to the airing cupboard for a fresh gro bag, he started singing at the top of his voice, "GURGLE, GURGLE, SCREECH SCREECH, HUMM HUMM HUMM". I am always terrified of him waking DS1 up, (don't care about DH obviously ) and had to leg it back dodging the creaky bits of the landing, to quiet him in a stage whisper "SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHTOBYTOBYTOBYTHAT'SLOVELYSINGINGSWEETHEARTBUTQUIIIIIIIIIETPLEASEPLEASEPLEASESHHHHHHYOU'LLWAKEUPYOURBROTHERSHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!" Little monkey. He does go back off though thank god.

Chrmble shopping slowly happening, got a few bits. need to go back to Mothercare and buy a second Christmas sack as you get the second one half price apparently. Stockings are all well and good but you can't get anything in them!

Not a chocolate, biscuit, crisp, cake or anything of that ilk has passed these lips for a month and I have not lost a pound since two weeks ago. Mightily miffed.

Did go and buy some new clothes yesterday with my Next vouchers I got last Christmas however. DS1 did a wee in his potty in the changing rooms bless his heart, you should have seen the shop girls face when I asked her to get rid....better than a poo on the floor though eh??

Right off for a power walk - I will shift this weightIwillshiftthisweightIwillshiftthisweight.......

FestiveAtForty · 15/11/2006 10:01

Morning girls ? quick post while Emma is asleep!

Xmasstocking ? aaaw, love the giraffe pic! Emma did a similar thing with a muslin cloth I gave her once as a comforter, she immediately draped it over her face - we were a bit alarmed but she was fine. We do the same re keeping her downstairs till we go to bed, she?s in a great routine at the moment which I don?t want to disturb. She usually falls asleep in the moses basket at about 9pm, we take her up about 11pm, change, feed, put on grobag then she goes down in her crib until about 7-8am. I feed her and put her back in the crib and she goes back to sleep till about 10.30am ? bliss. Will no doubt all go to pot when she goes to nursery though

Better go, got to get some work done. Take care all xx

FrostytheSnowman · 15/11/2006 10:40

Morning ladies

Love the piccie of Josh and his giraffe. DD1 used to sleep with toys on her nose-Sophie is a finger sucker.

I only started putting Sophie to bed at 8ish last Friday so she was 19.5 weeks.

She is wolfing her food down, going to have to give her a bit more soon.

kosh-good luck with work hun. Remember, the customers can't see you so you can pull what faces you like unlike me who has face to face contact and has to have fake all the time.

Still got a migraine but now day 3 so should be gone by tomorrow. Hope so as tis the annual Chrissie Pudding making day at mum's. Give it a stir and make a wish.

Had better go and get ready, off into town again.

Tatty bye

pinktinselanddollymixtures · 15/11/2006 15:17

Frosty- hon I do hope your migraine is gone by tomorrow, you must have had enough by now. Try and take it easy...quite hard to do when you've got little ones to look after. Big hugs.

Forgot to tell you, I am off to the Rheumatologist tomorrow. Remember me telling you that b4 i got pg i was having tests for suspected arthritis. Well, I havent been too bad since having Jazz. A few niggly pains here and there but nothing like it used to be.
Does anyone know anything about arthritis post pg- surely it would have come back by now. Do you think i'm in the clear?

kbaby · 15/11/2006 16:51

hi,
usandbump- ds fills his once every 2 days but it goes everywhere and is thicker than it used to be, its sad i know but i love the smell of bf poo it smells all sweet and yeasty!

were not weaning yet and will wait until nearer the 26 week mark. hes lost 5ozs this week with the bug so is now a weany 12lbs and still seems too babyish to be giving food yet. i dont think i want him to grow up. for those who are the annabel karmel book is the best and the food tastes lovely. usandbump we first tried dd on pureed carrot and then apple, she loved both. we skipped baby rice as its like wallpaper paste.

xmasstocking- i do the same re a blanket on ds's face, he snuggles into it and goes to sleep. Found out through a trial as when he goes to sleep he buries his face in your armpit so I thought id try the blanket. Cant leave him like it though!
