Hi pink - sorry to hear you're sick, hope it clears up soon. DS has his first cold courtesy of me, poor little boy has been snuffling and sneezing for the past two nights and I'm pretty hanging now. He was in bed with me from about 2am this morning, DH banished to the spare room again .

I'm feeling pretty relaxed about the weaning issue at the moment, prob because Dom is one of the youngest on the thread (15 weeks today!). From all accounts baby rice sounds like revolting stuff, no wonder some babies turn their nose up. Part of me is excited about introducing him to new tastes, but a bigger part of me realises how easy it is now to whip out a boob to feed him . Oh and I try not to feed him to sleep, but occasionally (ok, quite a few times ) I do, especially at the moment as he's ill. He's 3 and a half months old and I figure he needs the comfort. There was a bit of dummy use last night as he got too stressed and couldn't find his thumb, bless. Seems to have drifted off now though.. should I 'rest' (i.e. MN) or load the dishwasher

sunita123 · 13/11/2006 11:13

Hi girls
Big thanks to all of you who posted hugs for me. Very much appreciated.
Am feeling not so worried any more. I got chatting to another MNer who has just her Cervical Polyps removed. She put me completely at ease. Thank god for MN!!!
Pink - get well soon.
Re weaning Have been told by MIL not to start weaning until seven months!!!!! Wasn't going to start until six months anyway.
bye for now

sunita123 · 13/11/2006 14:40

Question for all......

Has anyone else's LO started to roll over yet?

Kavya manages to roll onto her tummy but can't move from there.

xmasstocking · 13/11/2006 15:34

Hi Sunita - glad you are feeling more positive about things. My LO has not started to roll over yet (he is 17 weeks) - he can roll from his back on to his side (which he does ALL the time) but then seems to get stuck and rolls back and he has not done anything when on his tummy - so nothing!

FestiveAtForty · 13/11/2006 19:00

Hi Girls

Sunita ? glad you?re feeling happier now Emma?s not rolling at all yet, but she does sit up very nicely in her new Bumbo!

Hope everyone?s nasty bugs sod off quickly!! There?s so many of them around at the mo, am just bracing myself for them to arrive all at once here too.

Pink ? gorgeous photos and girls, lol at your DH?s ?hunky? caption! Jasmine really does look like a pink dolly!

Prettymum ? fab pics of Junior, he?s really bonny!

Thanks for the nice comments about Emma?s pics too.

I?m off to a weaning talk at our health centre tomorrow ? haven?t given it much thought to be honest, so don?t know how you?d even go about it! She?s feeding much better now and my supply?s back up, so I think I?ll carry on bf for the time being. Will need to make a decision in December as to what she will eat/drink during the day at nursery when she goes in January. Haven?t dared try her on formula again though after the last time.

Take care all xx

figgypud · 13/11/2006 20:46

Evening all
Sorry to hear those of you who have bugs! Bracing myself for them to reach here!
Evie did well last night, didn't settle herself but didn't need boob and same again tonight! onto cuddling to sleep at the mo, nit brill but an imporvement in my mind, a step in the right direction at least
Sunita: Evie is now rolling over front back to front and vice versa BUT she is the oldest on the thread I think 21 weeks and has only properly started this week!
She also "commando" crawled today went into kitchen, came back and she was on her front and had moved to rustle a plastic bag Going to have to be careful from now on! Was so proud of her!
Night all
Jane

Awwwwww, love the reindeer!

S has started rolling a bit, if I put him on his tummy he can roll onto his back. And he can roll from side to side. The other day I fell asleep while feeding him on my side and when I woke up his feet were by my head - he had managed to wriggle 180 degrees! Oooh, have to start being more dilligent now!

Not even considering weaning until 6 months, we have finally settled nicely into good nights sleep - and I really dont want to change it for now.
Also have a talk at the health centre tomorrow, not sure if I will go though.. have the last set of jabs for a while tomorrow

prettymum · 14/11/2006 08:32

junior cant roll over yet, i think he is maybe 17 weeks? i keep losing count!!

junior has started waking twice in the night for feeds and wont go back to sleep after his second wake around 4.30!!!

i gave him some mashed banana this morning to see if he would eat some and all gone!! im scared to give him more, he's still my little baby!!!! he's growing up too fast!!

kz- roshi looks sooo cute in her outfit!!!

pinktinselanddollymixtures · 14/11/2006 09:03

Hi girls,

Still rough here, another day of staying in i think.

KZ- Roshi is a cuitie isn't she!

Jasmine can roll onto her side and rotate herself about 90 degrees at the moment. She keeps managing to wiggle herself halfway off her play gym.

The HV did come arund yesterday. And to cut a long story short. I am going to try and wait the 6 months. Her extra night waking is most like due her having had a cold, jabs. And the fact that all too often she falls asleep on my boob. So she is waking up for it to settle her in the night.

Figgy- your doing so well, looks like i'm heading that way aswell (trying to get her off the boob as a comforter).

That's all for a bit, might check in later. Have a nice day!

xmasstocking · 14/11/2006 09:38

Pink - I really hope you feel better soon. Glad you met with the HV and reached a decision about what you are going to do.

Josh can also wriggle off his gym and rotate himself around, roll from one side to the other but not all the way over - can't wait till he does it (As long as he is not on his changing unit )

Have reached a decision re work - I am going to ring my boss this morning and say I want to apply for voluntary redunndancy - no guarantees I will get it but I feel better now I have reached a decision - she sent me all the job descriptions for the jobs in the new organisation - all crap!! I don't want to do any of them so yet another reason to leave I think.

twinklemegan · 14/11/2006 10:01

My LO is 15 1/2 weeks now. He is rolling over to one side from his back, but can't go all the way over yet. He hates being on his tummy so not much happening there yet. Actually though, the very first time we put him on his tummy, at 3 weeks, he managed to roll on to his back! (think it was a fluke). Was at my M & D's last week with Aidan in a travel cot - woke up in the morning to find he had rotated himself 90 degrees overnight and was lying crossways across the cot - so cute!

KZ, Roshi looks so lovely in that cute little suit!

I'm having a bit of a nightmare deciding what to do with going back to work. I didn't get on with my line manager at all while I was pregnant so I'm not looking forward to going back one bit. Also there are big changes happening with the 'powers that be' cutting jobs left, right and centre (not mine though), so things are not very happy.
Before Aidan was born, the plan was for DH to stay at home with him and I'd work since my job is permanent and he does contract work. But I'm not sure that's going to work now as DH is finding A quite hard to cope with. But I can't stand the thought of putting A in childcare so young and I'm sure it's too late now to sort anything out for January in any case. Can't really afford to stay off any longer though and we couldn't survive on just DH's income if I was to stay at home with A, especially since it's not guaranteed. AAAGH!!

Sorry for the rant!

jomglebells · 14/11/2006 10:18

Hi all. Love seeing all your pics - aren't they all adorable. Amelia woke about every two hours last night for a feed - don't know whats going one there - but at least shes feeding well so I shouldn't be complaining

Amelia rolls from her front to her back but its mainly because she hates being on her tummy and after a while gets very fidgety and flips over - is usually very surprised at herself! She also turns herself around about 90 degrees when shes on her back and also moves backwards by sort of kicking off the floor. She also moves up her cot like this, and gave me a surprise the first morning she'd done it as she was up the top end of her cot snuggled in with a couple of her teddies that I'd left in there Bad mummy leaving them there!! Had to quickly find a new (safer) home for them.

jomglebells · 14/11/2006 10:20

Meant to say she's 17 weeks today (had to check as I'm always losing count!)

kbaby · 14/11/2006 11:34

ds is 15 weeks tomorrow and managed a roll from tummy to back last week, hes not done it since though. he also moves about by lifting his bum off the floor with his legs.

dd used to sleep on her tummy with her head pressed right against the top of the cot against the bars, she rolled over from 14 weeks hence the tummy sleeping, before we went to bed we would put her back on her back down the bottom and 5 mins later shed be back up the top again.

im trying to get a proper routine now and put ds down half asleep at night in his own room, i then wake him at 10.30 for a feed. it meant he still woke twice last night but they were a bit later ie 2 and 5.30. im also going to try leaving him in his cot at 5am when he wakes as even though i was bringinh him into bed to sleep hes now started playing in bed.

im also thinking about weaning off day time bf so when hes 16 weeks im going to replace 1 bf, ill do this each week until hes just on night feeds and by then itll be xmas and almost time to return to work.

Just wondered if anyone knew what is clased as a month (in baby terms) - is it 4 weeks or an actual calendar month?? For example, if weaning shouldn't start before 6 months is that 24 weeks or 6 calendar months after Ds was born??

pinktinselanddollymixtures · 14/11/2006 12:26

Xmas-

When my HV came around yesterday she told me 26 weeks. Which would make sense as there are 52 weeks in the year. But she did say a couple of weeks early wouldnt make much difference. hope that helps.

pinktinselanddollymixtures · 14/11/2006 12:28

sorry xmas just realised i didnt actually answer your post. I think a month is classed as a calender month not 4 weeks.

xmasstocking · 14/11/2006 12:37

Pink - it did answer my question - thankx

FrostytheSnowman · 14/11/2006 13:01

Hi all

Have a migraine from hell so fed Sophie at 3am then again at 6am. Then she cried when I put her down again at 6am so tried feeding her a bit more but it wasn't milk she wanted it was comfort so had to leave her to cry. She went to sleep after 10 mins. My head was thumping so just couldn't keep up with her. I too now put Sophie down at 8pm ish in her cot in her own room. She then wakes between 3am and 5am for a feed. I remember DD1 having this routine once I started weaning her and ended up having to force a bottle down her at 11pm so that she slept until 7am. That is my next task!

When do they have 2 meals a day. I am just giving Sophie brekkie at the mo but need to move it to tea time so she has a full tum at bedtime. Thinking it is just as easy to give her brekkie and tea. Can't remember what I did with DD1.

Sophie not rolling or moving about. I looked in my book this morning and DD1 rolled over on her own at 4 months + 2 weeks which Sophie has now passed. Suppose every baby is different though.

Laptop man is no longer registered on Ebay so I hope they have thrown him off-yay!

Reading about you all discussing work makes me go cold. I have to make a decision in the next 6 months but keep putting it off. There are signs of my manager moving to another Branch again so waiting for news on that. Will need to see who her replacement is before I make a decision. Wasn't ready to go back after a year with DD1 that is why I only stuck it for 3 months. But by the time she was 20 months old I was ready. Told DH I may be ready by the time Sophie is 2.

Bought Christmas cards and paper, tags and bows yesterday. Took me all day searching for all these things as I am v. particular about themes but found I needed a small extension to my mortgage to pay for these things, especially the family cards! Have now spent all the Christmas fund money and haven't bought anything for FIL, BIL or SIL. Oh dear!

Now routing for things to sell on Ebay. Bought an umbrella for MIL from Ebay (USA) but when it arrived I had bought a stick one instead of compact Expensive mistake so hoping to resell it.

Hope pinks family feel better soon and all of you with grotty illnesses.

Roshi looks a cutie kayzed.

Anyway, must go as looking at a screen isn't helping the throbbing in my head.

Byee

twinklemegan · 14/11/2006 13:15

What have all your HVs said about weaning this early?? All of us with babies around this age in my area were invited to a weaning talk, I think to stop us from weaning just yet!

usandourlittlexmascracker · 14/11/2006 13:56

Hi all

I'm a bit behind with everyones posts, I hope you are all ok.

Our nights are still not great, Zack wakes on average 4 times a night But we do have the odd good night thrown in like last night, he only woke twice, these nights save my sanity!
Daytime naps are great though and are a godsend, especially after a particularly hard night.
I'm not sure what wakes him as I don't think it's hunger, I think he wants and needs the comfort to get back off to sleep, so during the day I'm taking him off the breast as soon as he has finished feeding to try and stop the link between sleep and mummy!

Zack (17 weeks) rolls onto his side but thats as far as he has managed so far, he does wriggle around quite a bit on his back. I leave the room and return to find him in all sorts of positions.
He has just started grabbing his feet too! Also he seems to have discovered his own voice, he screeches very loudly with a look of real concentration on his face!
He is sooooo much fun a really cheeky and engaging little man! I just find him completely and utterly adorable

I went to see my boss to tell her I'm not going back and she has offered me some consultancy work! She wants me to do one or two days a week, the majority of it can be done at home and if I need to go in I can take Zack with me. I can't believe my luck, I only used to work 3 days a week anyhow so its not a huge drop in pay and I was expecting to leave completely and live with no salary for a while.

I was sorting Zack's wardrobe out yesterday and have had to take out most of his 0-3 month clothing He seems to be growing and changing so quickly at the moment. I think he is just under 13lbs now.

Can we talk poo?! Zack now only fills his nappy a couple of times a week and it is much thicker than it used to be with more of a smell to it Is this normal?

I hope those of you struggling with older chldren are having an easier time. You could always bribe them with the old "Father Christmas is watching you" line

Kbaby- I hope your new routine works out for you, the playing on his own in his cot sounds great

usandourlittlexmascracker · 14/11/2006 14:03

Twinkle- my HV is encouraging a very slow start to weaning whenever we think our babies are ready, as long as they have reached 17 weeks.
I must get to one of the talks she holds every 2-3 weeks.
I'm scared to mention weaning on mn because everyone seems to be so against it until at least 6 months. I think every baby is different and we should follow their lead really.
I'm in no hurry to start though, I feel like I've only just got the hang of breastfeeding

usandourlittlexmascracker · 14/11/2006 14:08

me again

Can anyone recommend a good weaning book?
