Thread to share the newborn news and support each other through the 'eeek what do I do?' When the baby gets home and you stare at it in the car seat and think - help!!

Wake her up for feeds in the day to get more in then and then hopefully go longer at night? But she's probably a bit too new / small to do that yet. Rory has zero pattern - just has mammoth feeding sessions whenever he wants them to be. Last night it was 8.30 to 12. And seems to want to feee lots now but need to take ds1 to nursery! I'm really hoping the TT snip helps reduce length or feeds.

How are your scars feeling ladies? Have you had any stingy feelings?

myn sleeps more during the day to but I don't let her go for more than 4 hours, we are doing 3 night feeds which is ok as shes a quickie and emptys me in around 15 mins

horseyhelen · 30/09/2014 13:26

Hi ladies

Can I join in? Was a lurker on the October thread but my baby is now here, Lewis was born on 21St September after a long induction. Was induced due to IUGR and signs of pre eclampsia at

horseyhelen · 30/09/2014 13:28

Sorry stupid phone, he was 37 weeks. Only small at 5lb 1 but doing well now already above birth weight. Would be great to have some advice/chat through all the long night feeds. Congrats to all the new babies

YellowWellies · 30/09/2014 13:37

Helen Smile helloooo! Lewis sounds like he's doing so well!

I just had my CS stitches out. Oh it feels so much better Smile

Today I've been making her feed every 2 hours and actually haven't really had to wake her, she's much more alert today - surely she'll sleep better tonight? Please!!!Confused

fedupofrainydays · 30/09/2014 13:45

Thanks Yellow
Yes he is surprising everyone, def a case of better out than inSmile.
We are quite similar here have got a night owl, trying to feed a bit more during the day

Captainmcgraw · 30/09/2014 13:54

Hi Helen, congratulations!

My incision is very stingy, almost like daggers going into me at times. Has been more painful than I hoped to be honest. Been prescribed cocodomol but it's making me quite drowsy so definitely not going to take it at night as co sleeping.

DS is sleeping pretty well at night but only on me - he's a proper Velcro baby. Am finding it lovely as DD hated to be touched (I think from terrible forcep bruises she endured) but can see it becoming hard once DH back at work. Wondering about buying a sleepyhead to make co-sleeping safer but they are so expensive and worry it won't work. Anyone used one?

Yellow - good luck for tonight!

tak1ngchances · 30/09/2014 14:10

Can I ask everyone what your babies are wearing today?
I have no clue how many layers to put on the baby!

fedupofrainydays · 30/09/2014 14:15

Short sleeved body suit and a babygro here.

Two weeks old today and sleep deprivation at a high

hi Helen

fedup shes my first quick drinker its only taken my 5 goes to get a fast feeder all the others were like yours I sat for hours on end feeding. I really hope she stays like this.

My staples are now out what a relief! my stingy bit is borderline infected midwife wants to put of antibiotics for two days to see if it drys up.
captain do you have a dressing that can be looked under? Have they checked its not infected? my dressing was stuck fast and like a second layer of skin so I had no idea what was going on under there until today when it was removed.

My babys in bodysuit and baby grow today im sure they used to say newborns just need 1 extra layer from what we are wearing.

Captainmcgraw · 30/09/2014 16:06

Gun, they took dressing off after 48 hours and although at first it had been weeping a lot the midwife seems satisfied it's ok now. It does actually look remarkably well healed but just hurts. However as a friend who also had third degree tear last time said to me today, it's definitely a plus not having to wee and poo out the wound!

Baby been cluster feeding most of day and now having massive sleep - result is enormous, rock hard, stinging boobs. Loathe to wake him up though.

...Aaaaand we're back in hospital Hmm
Woke this morning after rough night of cluster feeding in the most excruciating pain; under right ribs radiating round to stomach. Couldn't take a full breath in and couldn't stay in one position - agony. DP called an ambulance. Taken back to delivery rather than A&E; and back on ward in another private room with baby. They suspect gall bladder problems and I have a scan in the morning, after many painkillers and tests today. Am pincushion Confused

YellowWellies · 30/09/2014 23:18

Slide oh no how terrifying Sad get well soon. You've had it so tough xx

fedupofrainydays · 01/10/2014 00:55

slide sounds so scary - I hope you are ok and the pain has stopped. Get well soon x

I had my stitches out today and I do feel heaps better. Also operation keep her up in the day has worked so far - first night feed just done and I've got as much sleep so far as I managed all last night - whoop!

fedupofrainydays · 01/10/2014 04:08

Despite his mammoth feeding mission ALL day - ds is still waking every 3 hours - almost to the minute! But the feeds so far have been quite quick and he's settled again so I've got just over two hours sleep in between. So he's done 10, 1 and 4 so far. Hope next one reels is through til 7 when ds1 gets up anyway

I have thrush and a sty. Really nice! Sty came up in hospital - think stress related and now thrush is so itchy! Called doctor though and got a prescription waiting for me this morn

OP posts:
fedupofrainydays · 01/10/2014 07:52

So he didn't feed as long in the night - he only wanted one side each time and then went back to sleep. Maybe so full he needed just topping up?

Anyone else's LO got dry skin? Rory's is dry on his legs.

How are you doing this morning slide? Is your DH still around to help with the baby or is he back at work?

OP posts:
porcito · 01/10/2014 09:45

Sorry to hear that slide , hope you feel better.

We had a visit from La Leche League to help figure out how to make BF work. She's latching and swallowing fine, so I decided to stop with the formula supplements. I was worried it'd start to affect supply if I left it a bit longer. DD doesn't seem hungry and I'm having to wake her for feeds so hoping that's a good sign. No doubt the pediatrician will habe something to say Confused

She had her shots done - not sure who cried more between the two of us...

We're just awake for a night feed - tonight's the first night I've been able to put her down in her crib after 12 as was also reverse cycling yellow. I thought I'd given birth to a vampire. We made sure of lots of noise and night in the day, waking every 3.

I'm so excited to have Wine again. Have to wait until all the antibiotics etc are finished, nooo.

fedupofrainydays · 01/10/2014 11:14

I've already had some Wine it was delicious!!

Porcito - the jabs could make her sleepy.
Ds doesn't want to feed as much as yesterday either but want him too in the hope that the night will be ok!

Escaped the house cos of the builders everywhere. Sitting in cafe Nero with my boobs out Wink

Yup, scan confirmed gallstones. Bloods taken & awaiting doctor's verdict. Was scary; threw up a few times in the ambulance & didn't really know what was happening. Had been up with cluster feeding boychild most of the night so was a bit delirious from lack of sleep too.
Am now wondering if he's started reverse cycling too, had never heard the term, but he was angelic all day yesterday but refused to go down overnight; insisting he was ravenous after 2.5hrs feeding ??
DP is here feeding baby in room; he works from home & has brought laptop in to be with us.??

YellowWellies · 01/10/2014 11:48

I asked a MW pal of mine about the reverse cycling and its very normal at this age - bar regular daytime feeds and keeping daytime loud and busy and nighttime quiet and dark there's not a lot you can do. It will sort itself out over a week or two.

Porcito contacting the LLL is a great idea!

Slide yikes! Wow good thing that was spotted xx

YellowWellies · 01/10/2014 11:49

Oh and fed up Brew Brew Brew Brew Brew Brew to public BF! I christened Tescos cafe on Monday Grin

SlideIn · 01/10/2014 14:47

Blimey, I've just about managed to leave the flat to go to a café for brunch, but not attempted BF in public yet. Was bullish before birth, but now it involves faffery with nipple shields am a bit bashful ??
