Thread to share the newborn news and support each other through the 'eeek what do I do?' When the baby gets home and you stare at it in the car seat and think - help!!

Yay Yellow!

porcito · 28/09/2014 15:31

Yay Yellow!!

I'm so confused by this whole feeding malarkey. My milk came in today but as we're still supposed to be supplementing, not sure how it will all work. Lucia sleeps allll day - here, they tell you to wake her up to feed every 4 hours but it seems so wrong when she's fast asleep! Have been pumping from some strange relic of a pump that DP came back with from his shopping trip to try and keep supply stimulated. I have no idea if she's actually taking my milk but she latches on and sucks so hopefully...

How's everyone's recovery? I had a sneezing fit last night and thought I would die Grin How long is normal to bleed for after? TMI but mine has tapered off a lot already, like only 3 changes a day if that...

Captainmcgraw · 28/09/2014 16:54

Yay to going home yellow, you'll be so much more relaxed there.

Baby has literally been feeding all day. However he's above his birth weight at 5 days so at least it's not for nothing.

Section pain is so bad today, called midwife out as was crying with pain and hardly able to move. She said to call Dr tomorrow for stronger pain relief. Fingers crossed I get it. Anyone else finding that have back pain as can't sit or stand up straight due to incision? All part and parcel I imagine.

fedupofrainydays · 28/09/2014 18:14

Mines been feeding all day as well. Only having a sleep just now. Almost lost it when my ds1 can running all muddy from the garden all over my brand new kitchen and sofa. This is all while ds2 was feeding for what turned out to be a 2.5 hour stretch. Not sure that's normal but at least he's asleep now and boobs can have a rest. I know he's taking stuff in as can hear the swallows and see it round his mouth. And if he pulls away it leaks everywhere! Milk is definitely in!

My recovery is ok - still bleeding though, just not as much - like a light period now. And the baby is 12 days old.

Porcito - I've been waking him up to feed, mostly because of the jaundice though. It's good to flush it out so I don't like him to go more than 3 hours without food.

Hi everyone - we are on day 3 here after an ELCS on Friday morning. We had a baby girl who is absolutely gorgeous. She gave us a heart attack yesterday though with rapid breathing and green stained vomit and had to spend the day in the special care baby unit. I was absolutely distraught sitting in my room hand expressing colostrum while DH went to and from the SCBU with it in syringes.
Today she is back with us thank god and doing much better. My milk has come in and we did a good feed at about 6 this evening. Just gearing up for another one now. Nipples are absolutely killing me.
Prob will go home tomorrow. I am on morphine, paracetamol and ibuprofen here will deffo try and get some prescription meds to take with me

fedupofrainydays · 28/09/2014 22:20

Hi taking and congrats!

Sounds a bit scary - what was the green vomit cause? Hope all ok now. We ended up in SCBU 3 times over last two weeks and I cried hysterically every time. It's horrible and feel so helpless.

Re sore nipples - have you got lansinoh? It's wonder cream

Porcito I'd say feeding four hourly is too irregular for BF. It would work for FF but BF needs to be 3 hourly during the day at least. The milk is digested very quickly.

Ahhhhhhhhh is there anything more blissful than a baby hoover draining a boob so engorged it felt like a boulder. I'll be able to sleep so much more comfortably after this feed. DH has taken to calling her "small and mighty" Grin

porcito · 29/09/2014 05:23

Thanks yellow. I'm doing BF every 3 and then if she'll take it FF every four to supplement.

Tomorrow I'm taking her for her shots, dreading it. Especially as she's a little vampire so will probably be awake allll night.

YellowWellies · 29/09/2014 06:16

Haha tonight has been a 3 poo, 2 feed night. Yawn!

fedupofrainydays · 29/09/2014 08:42

We did 10 pm, 1 and 5 last night. Poo each time!

Day 1 on my own. Manager to have a shower and get dressed and ds1 having his breakfast as I feed ds2. Then it's eat brekkie myself and get them both dressed and off to ds1 playball class. Going ok so far....

I am feeding every 3 to 4 hours, the baby sleeps in between and then we have to change her nappy, strip her off and wake her up before putting her on my breast. She is verrrry slow to latch so there's lots of fussing and rooting and complaining. But we're getting there! The midwives at the hosp are amazing at helping me to latch her on so am a bit nervous about doing it all myself at home from tonight!
fedup best of luck on your first day, sounds like you are getting on brilliantly.

Have you been for the shots yet porcito?

porcito · 29/09/2014 13:39

good luck.fedup! My first day too, sooo tired before we even start!!

taking not yet, going in 2 hours. Dreading it.

We're feeding 3 hours but it's taking forever, then having to give the stupid formula supplement so by the time all that's done, almost ready to start again!

YellowWellies · 29/09/2014 16:50

Porcito it is much harder initially with a prem as they are slower, sleepier and are often slower to figure out latching. But she'll pick it up

I'm so tired from a trip round mother care (to get stuff we had but can't find and some tiny baby clothes, and the supermarket (for dairy free foods). I forgot my beloved painkillers and am feeling it now!

fedupofrainydays · 29/09/2014 16:58

Right... Day 1 past half way! Managed to get to playball, only a couple minutes late and to nursery on time this afternoon! Midwife came this afternoon and confirmed he has a tongue tie so I'm going to get it snipped. Annoys me SO much they don't sort it in hospital. Question is to I go to a place on Wednesday eve which is further away and costs £140 or wait another week and go on 8th for £90 and nearer (where I got my ds1 TT cut). Can't even be arsed with NHS as will be weeks

Don't overdo it yellow

OP posts:
YellowWellies · 29/09/2014 17:10

Argh fed up that's so annoying! The first MW to look at L said no TT too Envy , the next said "OMG its massive" and the third who cut it reckoned it was only small. WTF? Do HCPs know what to look for?

I'd pay the extra £50 and do it this week x

gunwalloe · 29/09/2014 18:55

Wow yellow your a machine! I'm 6 days past section and am nowhere near wanting to leave the house. Scar stings today the staples are being taken out tomorrow I'm dreading them taking the dressing of I hope there's no infection.
fedup I would pay the extra to

gunwalloe · 29/09/2014 18:56

portico hope the jabs went well its interesting to hear how different country's do things.

YellowWellies · 29/09/2014 21:20

Tomorrow we're going to toddlers (in the car!) where I'll sit and drink tea and DH can run after J and I'll then be stuck to the couch.

She's been cluster feeding since 6pm. Hopefully we'll get a better night Smile

fedupofrainydays · 29/09/2014 21:23

DH says just go on Wednesday and get it done. So just need to find childcare for ds1 then will go.

OP posts:
YellowWellies · 29/09/2014 22:29

Still cluster feeding. Come on Lilla let us have a good night!

I went dairy free today. Boo. Still better no dairy than no sleep.

Fed up great news on the TT - hope you get a sitter xxx

fedupofrainydays · 29/09/2014 23:40

Been feeding here since 8.30. I so want sleeeeep. But every time I put him down he wakes and starts rooting.

OP posts:
YellowWellies · 30/09/2014 03:11

Argh I think Lilla is reverse cycling - she's currently cluster feeding (having started at 6pm) and bar a torturous few 20 minute snatches to tease me I've yet to get any sleep tonight.

How do you sort out reverse cycling? Confused

fedupofrainydays · 30/09/2014 06:57

What's reverse cycling? Not much sleep here either. Just fed and can hear ds awake so will have to get up soon. Definitely a coffee day.
Hoping TT snip will solve some of this - one more night to get thru!

OP posts:
YellowWellies · 30/09/2014 07:56

She's confusing night and day. Wanting to sleep all day and eat ALL night Envy .
