I'm okay thanks Northern, just knackered. Term starting, monograph due and house move all at once is rather a lot. Frantically trying to finish proofreading monograph before Friday. Found the cross-refs were all wrong in one chapter and when I try to update I get those 'Error! Reference source not found' messages GAAAAAHH so have to go through and check all manually. Word is such a pain in the arse Sad Sad Sad Due Friday though and then I can at least forget about it for a while (until I get revisions ... yuck). Mr. Mopsy is being amazing at unpacking. I have done next to nothing. He won't let me because of PGP. Lovely to have so much space! Also sofa and table and bed shopping at the mo which is fab.

mopsytop · 25/09/2014 08:21

Such a bummer about the hols figgy Sad Sad. I'd be inclined to cancel and go elsewhere I think ...

mopsytop · 25/09/2014 08:23

PS I feel so fat too. I know I'm pregnant but I'm also just a lard arse... my bum is nearly bigger than my bump Sad Sad big time weight watchers once this baby is a few weeks old

ifyourehoppyandyouknowit · 25/09/2014 13:32

Oi please try and be gentle with yourself, having emotions isn't about being weak. Lots of things have happened and you're still in the middle of it, so just let yourself feel what you feel. But well done on the gym and classes.

Mopsy glad you're getting settled. And you're not fat.

figster is there anywhere else you really want to go?

I need to put this somewhere; I have a feeling my grandad is just not going to come out of hospital one day soon. At the beginning of summer he had a second hip replacement, and reacted badly to the anesthetic and then got a chest infection and ended up in HDU for quite a while, then spent a few more weeks in hospital. He's been in and out ever since with UTIs and kidney problems. He's an elderly man so having problems controlling his bladder (plus his mobility is limited after the operation) and he gets really embarrassed by it so he stops drinking. Then he gets an infection and faints and my gran can't lift him, so ambulance and back to hospital. I know people talk about how their elderly relative went in to hospital for something minor and ended up never coming out, and I just think this is going to be the same. I'm not very close to my grandparents, but this is all taking it's toll on my dad and I'm worried about him (he has his own health problems). I'm just feeling a bit glum about it all.

In other news, we're off to the zoo tomorrow!

OiMissus · 25/09/2014 17:11

Thanks. Smile
Argh, grandparents and hospitals don't mix well, I'm afraid. It's the last place you want to be with a weakened immune system, but the only place to be with dodgey organs, joints and limbs.
When men lose their fathers they often struggle more than most as, as well as the grief, they often get hit with an alarming awareness/fear of their own mortality. So maybe your dad has started this struggle now. Your dad perhaps could maybe take some positive steps to make himself feel better, or talk to someone about how he's feeling. It's tough. :(

OiMissus · 25/09/2014 17:13

I also meant to say I'm really sorry, and offer hugs. -it's tough for grandchildren too. X

OiMissus · 25/09/2014 17:18

Hope you're feeling better, Mopsy, and that you're making some progress. It sounds like you're in the thick of it at the moment.
Good luck.
Figgy - can you cancel and go somewhere else? I'd avoid all North Africa and Middle East, if I were you! Ebola, Isis, imminent war...
I back Eastbourne. Wink
Or safe Scandinavia!
It's a shame your hols have been cancelled, but it's perhaps for the best. you wouldn't find me travelling in that direction at the moment. Safety first! Wink

OiMissus · 25/09/2014 17:21

5 kids have the pox from the cm, and now 1 potentially 2 of Ali's mates who he was with on Sunday at a party...
I think our little trip to the Isle of Wight next week might also get cancelled. If Ali gets it, it'd be wrong to take him on a train, and cruel - if he's itchy - to stuff him in a car seat for such a long (6hrs) journey. (Even with breaks, I don't think it'd be fair.)

mopsytop · 25/09/2014 18:12

Bummer re chickenpox Oi :(

My monograph is in! yay!

mopsytop · 25/09/2014 18:13

Sorry about your granddad hop Sad

Aethelfleda · 25/09/2014 20:03

Boo to evil chickypox (though best got out of the way young, it's never pleasant) it's 14-21 days incubation so maybe you will get away with it oi...

Sorry to hear about your GDad, hop it is so tricky when they get frail and things kind of teeter. Not much can sometimes be done but just be there as best you can and look after your dad and yourself too.

Well done mopsy!

We've had a French-Fest tonight courtesy of Lidl's French Food specials.
Bacon Lardon tart, garlic Escargots with brie, double gloucester and bread-an-butter, and macaroons for pud!
DD1 loved the escargots, DD2 tried them and said yuch, and DS poked his and said "yike garlic. Not Yike Nails. More cheese!"

Figster · 25/09/2014 20:32

Tbh I'm ok with it was worrying about leaving ds for 11 days I'm now thinking either a week somewhere or we take ds with us though dh not keen on that. Only place I could come up with is Egypt and not sure that's much more wise than other places. I've suggested ttc now now now dh not biting Angry

We've got a hand foot and mouth warning round here Oi so lurgy round here too but what's worse is dh has caught the terrible twos he's playing us up playing cm up hitting faces all very frustrating

mopsytop · 26/09/2014 19:18

Agh don't know how to do links on phone. Is this better?

NorthernChinchilla · 26/09/2014 22:21

My only caveat would be what colour the room is mopsy? I really like the curtains but if they were in a magnolia room they may sort of fade into the background. Glad you're feeling OK-ish, bar the desire to punch the computer...doing the bloody pagination/bibliography/references etc is probably the worst bit, you spend as long farting around on that as you do with writing the bloody thing!

Sorry about your grandad hop, it's grim watching the slow decline. It's awful knowing very little can be done, and must be doubly awful for your Dad. Hope the zoo was fun though!

Fingers crossed re the chicken pox Oi....

That sounds an amazing dinner aethel (and very sweet DS), did any of you manage to rise from the table after that?!

Crappy couple of days here- my course had an on-line learning week, tried to load the &*%$^&%£ thing from the website, kept on telling me I didn't have flashplayer...after calling the helpline, turns out the website doesn't like Google Chrome, I need to use internet explorer. So, after 1.5 hours, finally get it launched, spend 2.5 hours actually doing the coursework, for it to throw a wobbler on page 99 out of 100 and throw me off the site.
Four hours.
There. Were. Tears.

And today I can't talk about, both metaphorically and legally Confused. But I was grateful for gin when I got home...!

TFI Friday northern!

OiMissus · 27/09/2014 08:49

Curtains are so difficult.
Not sure about these. But it entirely depends on the room.
They may be different in the flesh... But they seem a bit "old".
Sorry!
They are probably very lovely and I am probably completely wrong .

mopsytop · 27/09/2014 13:49

Ha! Thanks Oi! How did you do link pm phone? Went and looked at them in JL and actually nicer in real life (more subtle). Room is magnolia (as is whole bloody house Sad ) with beigy carpet. My bed linen white. So didn't want entirely plain curtains although I usually prefer plain as they date less and easier to change look of room with accessories. So I'll hang them and see how they are ... redecorating our bedroom miles down the list of priorities but current curtains beyond awful (used be white, only half lined, awful material) but I didn't want to spend loads on new ones.

Also bought lovely sofa and armchair in Harris tweed (sounds gross but is fab) (Bowmore Harris sofa and armchair in Ponsford but in two different tweeds ao not too matchy matchy) and two gorgeous chandelier type lights (Dante and Helena ... both John Lewis) so an excellent morning's shopping!

mopsytop · 27/09/2014 13:56

PS you might be right re 'old' i.e. mammy type purchase. Will have to see when up. I'm hoping more for a neutral look but not entirely plain like rest of room. I know magnolia isn't as bad as if rooms were painted green or orange or bright blue something but honestly ... the WHOLE house exact same paint. Needs to go! As soon as baby here and kitchen done I'm going to have the whole lot of painted over wallpaper removed and redo the lot. Even if it means eating up all my savings.

mopsytop · 27/09/2014 13:57

aethel in spite of several years living in France, could never get into snails. Hate the texture. Ditto frogs legs. Ugh slimy.

OiMissus · 27/09/2014 14:19

Oh Mopsy, I am so EnvyEnvyEnvyEnvyEnvy of your shopping!
I am in shoppi lockdown. These new windows are going to break me.
And my house is also ALL magnolia. And wooden flooring. Very neutral. Excessively dull. But it's way down the list. Windows first. Then I think I'll paint the living and dining rooms. (I want wallpaper and carpets, but no point until I knock the walls down for the new fireplace. - which will have to wait til next year,.. Or 2016. Hmm

TheOnlySeven · 27/09/2014 17:54

Our front room is magnolia as is the landing, but it was cheap and we desperately had to get rid of the burgundy feature wall when we moved in. It wasn't even the right wall for a feature wall Hmm. I want to redecorate and replace the fireplace but it's way down the list of priorities, it's an enormous brick monstrosity, you can get beautiful old ones for under £100 on eBay.

Sorry your granddads in decline hop, and sorry you've been feeling low oi, though I agree it certainly doesn't make you weak to have emotions.

DS and DD1 have gone to their cousins birthday party this afternoon, it's at a craft place run by DHs boss. I'm really dreading DS being naughty as his behaviour is still horrible since he started steroids :(

TheOnlySeven · 27/09/2014 17:55

You're still set on your new fireplace then oi. Is it still the fab one you posted a link to when you first moved in?

mopsytop · 27/09/2014 19:48

I'm not anti magnolia or cream/neutral per se. It is just the ENTIRE house is the same from top to bottom. I have a feeling it was all covered in rotten wallpaper when the last owners bought and so as the easiest solution they just painted over all the paper in magnolia. As the whole house is painted over wallpaper. Is going to be a nightmare to get off.
