Even though dc3 is end of August, thought I'd start a sept thread :-)

How are you all doing?

dS1 is 9 dats old. Feeding well and surely sleeping well but it's hard to know as I keep falling asleep at night feeding him!

Hes had his tube 2nhalf years now. The plan was short term but now is long term. We increase his feeds every so often as he doesn't eat enough to put on weight. Hes thirsty atm. Hes had no oral food since 3pm yesterday but was officially nil by mouth around 4-5pm. Hes no longer allowed water either. Hes first to go down. I hate ssending him to theatre by myself.

Hugs to you Ilove. What a difficult situation for you. I hope the op goes well.

Thanks for the advice re: thrush. I don't think either of us have it though as we have no symptoms. Jessica eventually fell asleep at about 10pm, but never managed more than 1-2 hours sleep in a row all night before waking for food, so I'm shattered. She did at least though accept my boob again after a couple of hours sleep. She tends to get a bit irritable in the evenings anyway but last night she was just hysterical. I suspect she had wind / colic as she's been like this once before. I truly hope she's better this evening. I felt like I was going to start screaming / crying last night myself. I feel a bit down today. DH is probably not going to get home until after 7pm again tonight so it's a long time to have her on my own. Sad

RedToothBrush · 31/10/2014 16:18

Does anyone else have a cross eyed baby? Google is telling me its fairly common and corrects itself but I'm a little anxious.

SeptemberBabies · 31/10/2014 16:55

Is anyone off trick or treating tonight?

I'm about to take baby and 5 year old out around the neighbours. Felicity has a sweet pumpkin hat (I didn't bother with anything else for her since she's wrapped up in the pram). Mainly she's just coming so the neighbours can meet her.

Our porch and outside are all dressed up spooky, I love Halloween!

SeptemberBabies · 31/10/2014 17:04

KitKat - hysterical screaming from Felicity physically has the symptoms and look of a colic cry - but I have found it is actually caused by being over-tried. Emergency get-to-sleep tactics like the bouncy chair or swaddling usually sorts it for us.

RedTooth - Cross eyed baby is quite normal. They have to learn control over eye muscles just like other muscles. It will right itself and nothing to worry about.

velvetlilithi · 31/10/2014 17:32

RedTooth Cross eyed baby here too. Dont be worried, its normal in first couple of months. As was said, baby needs to learn to control his eyes as well as everything else. All three of my nephews had it as well and absolutely no problem with sight afterwards.

polkadotdelight · 31/10/2014 18:57

DS gets a bit cross eyed with wind. How much wind do your babies get or what is normal? I dont know if Im over reacting with DSs' wind/crying as there is now talk of trialling lactose free formula.

marie1w · 31/10/2014 19:26

Hi Polka, we use a comfort formula which has lossless lactose and Dr Brown bottles as Erin seemed to have wind all the time and was getting little sleep/ was very grumpy and in pain. Big improvement now. The excess wind is due to a tongue tie though which means she takes in lots of air when feeding. Hoping to see an even bigger improvement after a correction on Nov 10.

polkadotdelight · 31/10/2014 21:04

Hi marie. We are using comfort formula, infacol, Dr Browns and now gripe water. I havent asked anyone about tongue tie but it hasnt been mentioned at all. There is a family history of lactose intolerance though. Im sure he has far more wind than is normal.

marie1w · 31/10/2014 21:10

We found infacol made the problem worse as we got projectile vomit and constipation too! Gripe water made no difference, a friend suggested colief...expensive but meant to be very good. With a history of intolerance sounds like lactose free is definitely worth a try. Hope it helps, nothing worse than seeing them in pain Sad

SeptemberBabies · 31/10/2014 21:33

Re: More wind that normal

Worth remembering that lots of crying creates trapped wind.

So something of a chicken and egg situation. Is wind causing the crying or crying causing the wind?

ilovemonstersinc · 31/10/2014 21:56

Ladies a mothers instinct is always right!

My baby most likely has colitis. And ive battled soooo long for him. Thankfully we managed to have a bowel camera with bowel prep so they could see and his colon is red and inflammed due to colitis but will wait for biopsies to confirm.

So hopefully at the next appointment will get some answers and hopefully some meds to help him. He is now dairy free due to his inflammation inside.

Hes got a little tablet in his tummy that is wirelessly giving information to a little belt that is recording how acidic hid tummy is how much hes refluxing. This is the bravo ph study. Hes had normal ph study too.

Baby is cross eyed too sometimes lol

velvetlilithi · 31/10/2014 22:26

ilove Your poor baby, that sounds horrible! Hope he gets better soon. What made you think he has colitis? What symptoms he had?

We fight with wind as well. Just today started on Aptamil Comfort, we use Infacol and TT anticolic bottles (the old ones with simple anticolic valve on the teat). I let my ds burp after every 2oz or even more often and we also do baby massage for colic after bath.
Thinking about trying homeopathics for colic, so far have found 4 types, just problem to have it delivered as not many online shops have them.

Allisgood1 · 31/10/2014 22:41

Just want to add that chiropractic are works wonders for colic

Thank you all for the replies. I agree with mothers instinct - I should trust myself more.

Re the crying, we are trying to sootge with a dummy to avoid this but as you say its a catch 22.

holls2000 · 01/11/2014 03:34

I'm going from ready made formula to powder next week. Do I need to make the change slowly or all at once?

ilovemonstersinc · 01/11/2014 06:12

I thought he had something wrong with bowel as hes always constipated and blood in stool n tummy ache etc. The gastric at Manchester children's hospital said it's nothing hes happy etc he scoped him without bowel prep and said nothing wrong with him. You cant see anything if youvr not cleaned bowel out! Stupid bastard my baby has been suffering from his negligence . Once it's been confirmed in a few weeks I will be getting a solicitor involved as my son has suffered unnecessarily because of him!

misog2000 · 01/11/2014 09:19

Holls I just changed, I think providing it's the same brand you should be ok.

ilovemonstersinc · 01/11/2014 11:31

Sorry velvet I should have told you what hessuffers from.

  • black blood in stool
  • abdominal pain
  • blood from aspiration from tube
  • constipated despite all the meds hes on
-ulcers in mouth -limb pain -excessive sweating How can I forget the reflux! ! These are the things he deals with most often. Now the dr who couldnt scope fully said its 'ok to loseblack blood in poo' even though it suggests bleeding higher up in g.i system
Acorncat · 01/11/2014 11:38

ilove hope he feels better soon, poor boy Sad

After DS finally sleeping for 2 hours at a time in his basket I made his cot at the same angle and recreated the mattress and towel props the exact same...and yet he was refluxing and grumbling and crying Confused. So frustrating, really thought his reflux was improving Sad

CoolCat2014 · 01/11/2014 16:08

Ilove, is that your older child? Hope he gets better soon!

ilovemonstersinc · 01/11/2014 16:58

Yep cool hes only 4 :( thank you

CoolCat2014 · 01/11/2014 18:20

Aww, I really hope it all gets sorted out, an FWIW, can't believe a doc said that black poo was ok... I'm no medic but I thought that was always something to be investigated!

Heads up, Boots have got buy 3 for 2 on loads of baby stuff at the moment, with extra points & free delivery if you spend over £60 online - we just ordered a bulk load of pampers and wipes, with being signed up to baby club got 18 points per £1, so the nappies come out at effectively 8.8p per nappy with the points that come back, cheaper than Aldi's own! :) finding the website mysupermarket.co.uk really helpful!

Honeybear30 · 01/11/2014 21:43

coolcat I thought that parenting club was 10 points per pound. I had great fun in boots today stocking up. Also found out that you can 'load' your coupons onto your advantage card via the boots app. Which is so helpful, which I dutifully told the shop assistant. Think he thought I was mental, but I was so impressed! And five days out of seven being just me and DS I now frequently have a chat with any shop assistant I come across Blush
