Even though dc3 is end of August, thought I'd start a sept thread :-)

How are you all doing?

dS1 is 9 dats old. Feeding well and surely sleeping well but it's hard to know as I keep falling asleep at night feeding him!

We're still feeding every couple of hours through the night here to. DS is seven weeks. Feeding lying down has saved me because I often drop off and wake to find him done and fast asleep. I can then scoot him over into his crib before starting all over again in an hour or two.

topmammy · 29/10/2014 20:51

I've noticed a big change in the last few weeks as far as night times go. Jessica started by going 5 hours between feeds at night every now and again. Then suddenly she just started doing it every night. It used to be constant feeding almost till bedtime around 10 ish but now she goes to sleep anywhere between 7 and 10 and then wakes for a feed 5 to 6 hours later. She is 12 weeks on Sunday so im sure the change is because she's older and bigger now Smile

polkadotdelight · 30/10/2014 01:00

DS is coming up to 5 weeks and tends to feed 3 hourly. The sleep deprivation is killing me and I am also having issues with anxiety. Can anyone recommend anything for anxiety? Im reluctant to go to GP etc

Nazly · 30/10/2014 02:38

Re feeding- Thanks ladies, I got him weighted yesterday and he is doing well.

Can I just ask what are the signs that indicates going to gp if your LO has a cold? ds has been snuffly since a couple of days ago and occasionally he has runny nose - has been coughing on and off for a couple of days now... Thought it would go away but no ...
Ilove you scared me with chest infection news :( hope he gets well soon

Re sleeping - ds is doing exactly yhe same topmam and it should be an age thing ... He is 11 weeks and he started doing 5 unbroken hours sleep recently :) he then feeds and has another 3-4 hours and then a 1-2 hour again. I have to keep him upright after feeds, nevertheless this Has been a life changing event !!! for everybody else - hang in there, it will probably happen sooner than you expect... :)

topmammy · 30/10/2014 05:56

Sorry to hear you're feeling anxious Polka. Is this something you've had trouble with before? If not then it could be the baby blues still lingering perhaps. I know I had this awful anxious feeling that I couldn't cope for a while but it did lift eventually. If you don't want to talk to your doctor then having a chat with your HV could be an alternative option. If it's really bothering you don't try to cope alone. The HV 6 week check of baby includes asking you how you're feeling so that could be an opportunity to mention it then.

Nazly, Jessica does exactly the same as you described at night - a 5 to 6 hour stretch first, then a 3 to 4 one, then 1 to 2.

polkadotdelight · 30/10/2014 07:35

Thank you topmammy. I have had some anxiety before, it had settled down last week but there are some issues with my house (we are selling) and Im really worried about it so everything is heightened.

ilovemonstersinc · 30/10/2014 08:25

Nazly he just started with a cough the nighf before I took him to gp and was worse in the morning. Glad I took him. Theres no harm in getting them checked. Gp said such small babies can get very poorly very quickly but can also recover quickly too. You could get the cough checked to be on the safe side.

RedToothBrush · 30/10/2014 09:02

DS is eight weeks. He's been doing 5 hours, 3 hours, 1-2 hours for a couple of weeks (though the last bit is sleeping on me or DH). He's been decent sleeper from word go though, knowing night from day. I don't know how the rest of you are coping. I'm in awe. I feel v v lucky. We are only just coping as it is.

My anxiety has been through the roof this week. DS had his first lot of injections and I think thats what has triggered it for me. Had a complete meltdown. The injections were actually not that bad in the end. I've really struggled generally though. Expressing is my prison guard. DH has been struggling too. Its not so much the lack of sleep but the lack of a break. I've been having physical trouble too as I've pulled a muscle in my back and its hurting to lift him or even hold him. I haven't manage to crack the sling yet either which might have helped.

If you have the time polka, I do recommend the book "The Chimp Paradox: The Mind Management Programme" as a general thing to help you understand where your anxiety is coming from. It has helped me. There are other mindfulness books out there that other people might recommend, but I came to this one as its written by the guy who helped the British cyclists and other sports people so its pretty well known. Its fairly easy to read. The trouble being having the time to read atm...

Allisgood1 · 30/10/2014 10:27

Well that was a shit night. I was up with anxiety attack pretty much most of the night as DS who usually goes 6 hours went 2-3-4 hours instead. And my head is still all over the place and I'm still in a panic. Trying to distract myself with shopping. Sorry haven't read anyone's updates, hope you are all ok.

Red that's the same as we gave been doing in terms of sleep. Last night went 4.5, 4.5, 2. DS is 6 weeks.

Just a heads up. Have just got a tommee tippee perfect prep machine on amazon. If you have amazon family, put in babyfam15 at the voucher bit and you get to for 59.99. I have been using ready made but think the time has come to give my bank balance a rest, also thus seems a safer way of doing it for anxious little me, and it is 2 mins to get a bottle ready which is quicker than warming stuff up :-)

polkadotdelight · 30/10/2014 15:09

We have the perfect prep and for us it is a godsend, the close caboo carrier is too.

Thank you for the book recommendation I will order it from Amazon as I need to get this under control.

holls2000 · 30/10/2014 15:14

I have had terrible anxiety. It is awful at night - at 3am, it feels like you are the only person in the world.

No DTD here either. That would take up too much sleep time! However, had 6 week check and have pill until I get the mirena coil fitted.

Have booked onto baby massage and swimming. The children's centre here puts on loads so am going to start taking part!

misog2000 · 30/10/2014 15:37

I'm starting baby swimming next week too holls, and going to a mother and baby Pilates class as I am really missing exercising but needed something that I could take Em with me to.

I've just been given a moby wrap to carry her in, will be extremely useful at the stables as will leave my hands free without leaving her in the pushchair which isn't really safe with the horses around. Just got to practice tying it now!

Is it just me that thinks a tool for helping you with anxiety being password protected is ridiculous? Either you are anxious or you aren't. And if you are accessing the site the chances are that you are and would need the site, if that makes sense. Its not something that potentially could make you worse and its hardly as if its going to be supervised (they couldn't as if you give the 'wrong' answers and there was a built in check up on you thing, it would make any anxious person feel even more anxious)

ilovemonstersinc · 30/10/2014 19:03

ds is in hospital for some tests and cameras etc and we had to take the train. Well that was absolutely horrible! He couldn't cope. He screamed loads! He hated all the noise and everything goinf on around him. Once wr got on thr train I made sure we sat where the wheelchairs go as its normally quite there and he was fine.
Now in hospital ive had tk close the curtain as we arw in a bay amd all the noise is getting to him and for some reason he doesnt like the boy in the bed opposite. He wants him to go away. He was like that with a girl at the train station too.

Hes now nil by mouthuntil after scopes tomorrow

KitKat1985 · 30/10/2014 21:31

Hugs to you ilove. Having a horrible evening here too. At about 5.30pm Jessica just started hysterically screaming. Nothing would calm her down and I have no idea what the matter is. I've tried feeding her, removing clothing in case she was too hot, winding her (for ages), infacol, etc. Nothing is working. Also she has decided that she won't take my boob. She just latches on and then pulls away again and starts screaming. She has taken two bottles of expressed milk though. No idea what the issue is. Feel like I'm going mad. Sad

Allisgood1 · 30/10/2014 21:56

Kitkat, any signs of thrush on you or her? That can often cause them to refuse breast.

Ilove ThanksThanks hope you have a good night and tests go well. Thank you for the YouTube link, I will have a look. I feel like nothing will help right now though so am having one of these instead Wine

KitKat1985 · 30/10/2014 21:58

Hey allisgood. I don't think so. What would the symptoms of breast thrush normally be? I'm so clueless. x

Acorncat · 30/10/2014 22:12

I was told I have thrush yesterday not sure I do only symptom is pain when feeding and afterwards on one side. DS is fussy to feed sometimes but that could also either by fast let-down or his reflux...

topmammy · 30/10/2014 22:35

Kitkat, my Jessica gets like that too sometimes and i find its usually as she is over tired. Either that or wind. Try taking her to a dark room to try and soothe her maybe? It's not nice when they're hysterical is it Sad Hope she calms down for you soon.

Re. Thrush - I've been told if you have it, it feels like a very painful sharp stabbing pain in your boob when feeding. Does not sound nice at all!

Hope your ds is ok ilove. Flowers

Allisgood1 · 30/10/2014 22:38

Yes it's like knives cutting through your nipples when feeding, especially during let down. But baby can have it and you not, check for a thick white patch on the tongue.
