Love the name Pepperrabbit. dd wouldn't put anything in her mouth for ages and ages, then it just suddenly happened one day. The last couple of sunny days have been fab. I can't wait til I can let dd loose in the garden. She keeps crawling outside and then crying because her feet are cold . Cause and effect, she'll learn ... maybe ... one day ...?

SlightlyMadScientist · 04/03/2007 21:59

Hi,

Im new here I have a DD born in April can I join please????

NattyThomasandBump · 06/03/2007 19:40

omg u didnt?! fatal mistake selling ur maternity gear nearly always results in pregnancy

SlightlyMadScientist · 06/03/2007 22:39

I still have time to withdraw them from Sale . Only 1 item has a bid on so far....

Ponka · 08/03/2007 13:30

We'll expect an announcement shortly then SMS!

Too right you should feel guilty Pepperrabbit! (says Ponka after nearly yet another month of not posting) . Seriously I had been wondering how things were going for your friend.

Yes, Homsa. He started at 9 1/2 months . Nothing like DS1. He was a LOT later. I guess it's 2nd child syndrome. He just idolises DS1 and really wants to do everything he does. He's such an active baby.

Well it's all celebration here. Had my birthday (30th - Shhhhh) last week and went for a few meals and this weekend, I'm off for the weekend to Center Parcs with all the family and so looking forward to it. This will be DS2s first ever experience of swimming so I'm very excited about that. I think he'll love it. I've not been able to take him before because I can't manage both of them at once on my own.

So first birthdays are coming up soon! With DS1, I had a huge big party at our house with about 20 people. It was lovely but a bit crowded and stressful organising it so this time we are just going for a quiet family party. What's everyone doing?

SlightlyMadScientist · 11/03/2007 22:54

Ponka - your only a couple of weeks older that me...

Right thats it they are all wrapped in brown paper - half of them will go to post office tomorrow . I genuinely feel like crying as though it marks the end....

Anyway if someone could send me a clearblue in a couple of weeks I would be greatful!!!!

DebitheScot · 12/03/2007 10:19

Back to work in 2 days. Soooo not even almost organised. Aaarrrggghhhh.

pepperrabbit · 13/03/2007 18:37

Hello, well I'm not PG thank goodness following the mini-pill/antibiotics/desperate Dh incident! I'm sure you're all relieved!
DebiTheScot - back to work huh! full time or part time?? or should I have read the thread in more detail - oops? Has DS settled at nursery or have you got a childminder? I'm due back in 4 weeks and desperately need one grown up outfit that will look stunningly different every week. As I'm only in the office one day a week I refuse to buy 2 suits but I can't look exactly the same every time they see me. Also planning hair, eyebrow and full make up upgrade before venturing out with the grown-ups. Though I do have a lovely new Radley handbag from my birthday. Probably need expensive shoes to go with it now... The trouble is that for work heels look best and most efficient etc, but for commuting frankly trainers is my preference but just can't carry that much stuff every day with laptop etc. So guess will do the crippled in the name of beauty thing.
I'm waffling now and I still have 2 small boys to bath.
Do you ever look at your children with genuine amazement and go - why are you still up? I know you're only 2 and 11months but please put yourself to bed once ina while.
And at least one of them is stinky.
Sigh.

DebitheScot · 14/03/2007 09:36

I'm back today, doing 3 days a week. (Wed-Fri) Have found a nice childminder and ds has had 3 afternoons with her before today. He looked a bit confused this morning but hopefully he'll be ok. Made it into work with seconds to spare this morn, walked into the before school staff briefing just as it was starting.
Got a nice easy day to start with. I only have to teach one lesson today as the other classes I will normally have are either on a trip or their teacher wanted to finish off what they were doing with them first.
I'm sure I should be doing something more useful than using the school internet to be here.
Pepperrabbit do you work in London? I'd hate to have that commute, at least it's only 1 day. If you buy 3 shirts/tops that are all very different colours you could get away with wearing the same suit and it'll be 3 weeks before anyone sees you in the same shirt again.
I work in Fleet so I might see you (not that I know what you look like, I'm guessing you're not a big red vegetable with bunny ears sticking out the stalk).

pepperrabbit · 14/03/2007 11:55

ROFL at the image of my bunny ears! Actually I'm easy to spot at the mo as I've just bought one of those indelible lipsticks and may well be permanently "Bronze toffee" or whatever it's called.
What age to you teach? (obviously I'm dying to ask you which school but won't on such a public forum!) Glad DS has settled in OK, they have no real sense of time yet so a full day is the pretty much the same as ahalf day to them at this stage. DS2 starts his nursery inductions next week which will be tricky as DS1 is already there and may not understand if I try to go home without him!
I do indeed commute, to Canary Wharf so it's a pain and a half. No idea how it will go this time, 2 is quite a different kettle of fish to 1 in childcare, and only doing 2 days a week may be quite difficult to be a "real" person at work. But we'll see, I can always leave - she says glibly...

DebitheScot · 14/03/2007 12:22

I'll look out for the bronze lipped woman with 2 children trailing behind her then.

I teach secondary kids in a school on a street with a seasonal, tree themed name. Is that enough clues for you?

pepperrabbit · 14/03/2007 13:07

Aha, very good clue! We're in the "other" catchment area.....

Ponka · 16/03/2007 13:42

I bought a packet of 8 boys first birthday party invites and have used 4 of them. If anyone wants the other ones, I can post them to you. I'll never use them.

Ponka · 16/03/2007 13:44

Oh god, I've just realised. Now I've said I won't need them, I'll be joining SMS in getting pregnant, won't I?

pepperrabbit · 16/03/2007 18:57

ha ha , Ponka might be preggers, Ponka might be preggers, pr runs away laughing childishly.

tonton · 19/03/2007 08:12

Haven't posted in AGES. V bad. Seems like you're all doing ok - and big congrats to the pregnant posters!
dd2 is great - well until seh stopped eating and sleeping abnout three days ago. I hoping it's just teething.
Quesitons: dd2 just won't eat her breakfast She'll drink her milk, then take one mouthful of cereal and refuse the rest. Have tried Oatibix, baby porridge and other cereals, mixed with fruit puree and her milk..but all to no avail. She'll check on a crust of toast for a bit.
What do you all give your los for breakfast?

DebitheScot · 19/03/2007 10:20

I give ds Oatibix but ehn after a couple of weeks he goes off it. So then he has a big yoghurt or petit filous and fruit for a couple of weeks then back to oatibix. He also likes Tescos Apricot Wheats coz he can eat them himself.

WriggleJiggle · 19/03/2007 10:58

Hi tonton. My lo seems to have the opposite problem - this morning she ate 1/2 a hot cross bun and a huge pile of cornflakes (quickly dunked in milk then scooped out and put on her high chair iyswim) She loves anything she can eat on her own. However she seems to be going off milk!

I often give her things like toast cut into fingers, crumpets, small cereal pieces like her favourite 'puffed wheat', rice cakes with chese spread, slices of banana. Though if I'm honest I don't always stick to typical breakfast things, so sometimes if we have left over stuff from the night before she might have pizza or pasta for breakfast .

I'm not sure what to do about the lack of milk thing, particularly as I'm trying to get down to 1 b/f a day now.

SMSis30today · 21/03/2007 22:30

Anyone seen my AF round here? If so can yhou please send it back to me!!!

Ponka · 22/03/2007 09:04

Happy Birthday SMS!!!!!!!!!!!

What are you going to be doing?

Do you feel as bad as I did ?! Don't worry. It's really fine once you get used to it for a couple of days!

Long time no see Tonton. Have you tried giving solids before milk or after a little bit of milk?

DS2 is all smiles this week. He's got a little musical instrument thing that you can put in your mouth and it kind of makes a squeaky noise and he's taken to pulling it out of the box, bringing it over to me and ramming it in my mouth, demanding that I play it for him. He's just discovered dancing, too. He gets too excited about it then falls over.

I should have stopped a game of peepo with the dining room curtains yesterday though. DS1 was behind the curtains, peeping out and shouting, "Boo" to DS2 who was the other side, clinging on, trying to pull them away from him and guffawing. It was so cute I didn't stop it but next thing I knew the curtains and curtain rail had completely fallen off the wall and they were both on the floor in a heap tangled up in them. DH was not amused.

pepperrabbit · 22/03/2007 10:10

SMS, you could always treat yourself to Tesco £5 PG test for your birthday Most careless to mislay your AF!!
Happy Birthday you slip of a thing. pr creaks away on her zimmer frame...

Nip · 23/03/2007 10:09

Hi Everyone, Just reading the recent comments on here and i wanted to ask 'what happens next'... I'm a but unsure of all this so i really need some help.

Apparently after 12 months the DC can go onto cows milk as they will be getting the vitamins and nutrients from the food they eat. But do they drop milk, or should we move them away from it, or do they keep having the same amount?

My DS wakes up and has 8oz at about 7am in the morning, then at about 9am he has breakfast... Should we swap this around? Does anyone know?
He also has 8oz mid afternoon (which he usually only has half of) - and 8oz before bed at 7pm. Will this reduce, what happens, he always finishes his food so should i give him more?

I really dont know what i'm doing and have no-one in rl to ask? HELP

pepperrabbit · 23/03/2007 10:27

Hello Nip, have no fear it all pans out in the end. With DS1 (now 2.10) I gradually moved morning milk to coincide with breakfast, so he had it in a beaker, and even now if he's up early I just give him a beaker of milk to tide him over to breakfast. The afternoon milk we dropped at about 14 months? but he'll still have something to drink then usually squash/water. He just didn't seem to need milk anymore. TBH if he's eating all his food then he's not drinking milk instead but as well, so I really wouldn't worry.
My SIL has just packed away her steriliser on her DDs 1st birthday - I'm really not convinced the exact day actually makes a blind bit of difference!
HTH

Nip · 23/03/2007 10:52

Thanks pepperrabbit - its all so confusing. I find it hard because he goes to nursery so much i'm not there to see him not want milk, or want more food.

Ponka · 23/03/2007 12:13

Nip, I think everyone does it differently but here's how I did it....

One day a few months after DS1 was 12 months, I just replaced all of his SMA with cows milk and he took to it fine. I still used bottles and then started to try and switch those for sippy cups and beakers at about 13 months. I had previously given him lots of practice with sippy cups with water and he was taking aaaaaaages to get the hang of it but at about 13 months, I replaced his afternoon milk bottle with a sippy cup and helped him with it. It did take him a bit of getting used to but I persiseted. His milk intake dropped and I worried about that but tried to up protein in other areas (more milk with meals, Cheeze, yoghurt etc.) About a month later, I swapped the breakfast one with a sippy cup and started integrating it with breakfast rather than doing it before. For selfish reasons, I left swapping the evening bottle until about 16/17 months. I love that close cuddley time just before bed.

Like you, it was my first time of weaning off the bottle and I am a bit of a worrier so I worried about it a fair bit but it all just happens in the end and then you wonder why you spent so much time fretting!

I have to admit that I only dropped the steriliser at 17 months (when I had dropped all of the bottles) because cows milk is just as nasty as SMA for going off and bottles seem to harbour germs very well but I am an uptight Mummy!
