AAAAHHHHHH He won't go to sleep, keeps standing up and then just cries. Don't know what to do. He did this the other day too at afternoon nap time and I ended up taking him out in car but I'm not doing that again (can't anyway, don't have the car here)

DebitheScot · 25/01/2007 10:56

an hour after puting him in cot he is asleep. Tried going in, lying him down, leaving the room. That didn't work. Then tried just leaving him crying for quite a long time, that didn't work. Finally tried lying him on front, rubbing his back till he was calm again, thought it hadn't worked as he cried as I left the room but now we have silence. Phew

Ponka · 25/01/2007 11:53

Debi,

I remember that DS1 went through a little phase of this when he discovered he could stand up in his cot. Could be that, or teeth, or that he's changing and not tired then any more? Poor you and poor him

DS2 is off. He's at that cute MaggieHe's taking 5 to 10 steady steps now. He walks like a zombie with his arms out in front of him and then claps himself furiously when he reaches where he is going. It's soooooo cute.

Ponka · 25/01/2007 11:55

Ooops. Didn't finish. Meant to say in the middle:

"He's at that cute Maggie Simpson stage where he walks then falls, walks then falls etc."

MustTryHarderHeHe · 25/01/2007 16:09

Hi, a very later joiner..... I have been reading but this is the first time I've got round to joining. Probably because my DH has my DS (Oscar born 27/04/06)

I saw somebody elses post about where had their tiny baby gone. Couldn't agree more! My "little one" is a whopping 24lb.

He likes being really independant on his food at the moment so am trying to do a lot of finger foods (am referring to the BLW blog) but sometimes worry he is not taking enough in of meat protein and veg. He was brilliant at these when we would take puree / mashed.

Is anybody else having this fun?

littlepiggie · 25/01/2007 21:00

Hi all, not posted for ages, our lo are changing so fast.

Ds is a million miles an hour now, crawls as fast as we walk, can get up single steps, pulling up on anything and everything, started letting go, only lasts about 5 seconds though.

He has finaly worked out how to sit back down again, so i am not having to go to him evey few minutes for him just to stand up and cry again.

have to same cot problem, cant get him to stay lying down in the day, jumps up and down, so have given up as dont want to find he has jumped out (my brother did the same thing, jumped out at about 10 months).

Sleeps 7pm untill 7-8am, with a small feed at about 6am.

He has also decided that if he does not like his tea, he will scream untill he gets something he want, so tonight, refused meat, veg and potatos, the whole lot got thrown over the high chair, he waved at it and said gone, then screamed when given some more. Then ate 2 yogurts and some bread, then wanted dh ice cream. we cant have a cup of tea without him wanting it, what happend to my little boy that would eat eveything.

DebitheScot · 26/01/2007 11:08

So piggie what to do you for naps now then? Does he just have them in the buggie o car instaed or just not bother?
I have tried leaving him till he screams (he's not very good at getting down from standing so gets stuck), letting him cry for a bit to wear himself out and then puting him on his front and rubbing his back till he calms down and then leave. Don't make eye contact or speak.
Its just frustrating as it feels like we've gone backwards with the sleeping.

He has also become a fussy eater but I'm hoping its just a phase. All savoury food has to be finger food but he still won't eat a lot of things.
If I don't think he's eaten enough I usually resort to giving him bread or toast as this is his favourite. Is this a good idea or do you think it might make him realise that if he doesn't fancy something he can just through it away and get what he wants?

He will eat: bread, meatballs, toast, fishcakes, pitabread, homemade chicken nuggets, bread, banana, toast, petitfilous, bread, pear, soft cheese sandwiches, toast, cheese, ommlette, bread

He won't eat: vegetables, potatos in any form (except waffles and in fish cakes), pasta, anything off a spoon (except yoghurt). He's even gone off oatibix and refused porridge. He's also gone off his milk and will only have his bedtime bottle and about 3oz of breakfast one.

SlightlyMadScientist · 26/01/2007 14:10

Havn't posted for a while (again). When we get anillness inthis house it seems to last weeks byteh time it has got all 5 of us!!! This could be an essay but I will try and keep it brief!!!

Welcome to newbies. The more the merrier!!!

Congats N&T&B - kind of makes me want a DS now (I have 3 DDs)

DD3 has changed soo much. In the space of about a week she went from sleeping well (2-3hs day + 10-12hrs night), eating whatever we gave her and drinking 20oz+ of milk. Now we have to limit her to a max of 2hrs sleep duringthe day or there is no chance of getting her in bed before 10pm. She refuses bland foods (I had a couple of pots of just veg left in freeezer from before XMas & she wouldn't touch them). She now only has 10-15oz of milk at very best per day. She will drink her morning milk - may have a couple of oz in hte afternoon and depending whether she crashes during her feed she will have anything up to 6-7oz at night. I'm not too keen on this but don't see anything I can do about it. I am going to try a cup for her milk to try and increase her intake - it worked for DTDs as the flow was much faster and they could drink more in a shorter time.

How much variety to you LOs get in your diet. I am getting boreed of doing the same things - usually roast & veg, bolognese, chilli, pasta +meat &tomato sauce. She has other things at nursery though.

She has just learnt to 'commando crawl' so is getting everywhere she wants to. She can also get from sitting to laying safely. She is starting to show some interest in pulling herself to stand, but has only actually ahcieved it when holding our hands. She hasn't done it against furniture/in cot yet (despite trying - legs slipping through cot bars which was quite ammusing!!) She does stand if we hold her but she is not too steady and is not interesting in moving her feet.

She won't sit still now - she has to be standing or crawling to reach the nearest thing she is not allowed - the remote is a favourite!!! She loves doinf row row row your boat (but does attempt to capsize said boat with ther enthusiasm!!!). Trying to teach her to clap but she is not interested!!!

Loves shouting 'mamamamam' at the top of her voice - usually when she is angry!!!. I am assuming it is just a noise rather than a 'name'.

Anyway - I seem to have acheived an essay despite trying not too...ooh welll I hope you are still awake after reading that.

littlepiggie · 26/01/2007 20:42

Sleep, i cross my fingers and hope for the best. Make a drink sit on the sofa and cuddle him untill he goes to sleep, although he does cry alot as he knows whats coming, by which point my much needed cup of tea has cooled ready to drink. He has a birth to 4 car seat so cant get him out of the car without him waking up, so no chance of that, and we have walked for up to an hour without him going to sleep in him pram, so sleep?

We have a new word today, he has been saying d o when he sees the dog for a while now, then o g, then today gog, he sat for 20 min in the bath tonight saying g o, og and gog.

More luck with food today, banana and weetabix for breakfast, toast and soup for lunch (blw style of course), grapes and a crumpet this afternoon, spag bol and a yogurt for dinner, although he did not eat a lot of spag bol.

WriggleJiggle · 27/01/2007 08:03

Oh dear, not sure if I should have read the previous posts. Its not always good to know about the next stages!
At the moment dd still eats everything, has a cup of milk at childminders every morning, then b/fs the rest of the day with me, so I've no idea how much she gets apart from LOTS.
She stands unsupported for about 10 seconds, and cruises. Am very of the 'gog' sounds.
We're just about to start baby signing - anyone else done it?

littlepiggie · 27/01/2007 19:15

Doing a bit of baby sign, milk, and we have one for come here and no, but those 2 are just ones that just happend that he seems to understand.

We got dog as well as gog today, so he spent half the the day saying, g o gog dog og , you get the idea, and seems to know what dog is as he seems to start up again when he sees her. He is trying to say hot as well but keeps saying hog instead.

SlightlyMadScientist · 27/01/2007 23:14

STOP PRESS

Shock of my life at 4am this morning. Went in to DD3 as she had woekn herself up coughing. Turned up the light - and there she was sitting in the middle of her cot!!! She was definatley lying down when I went to bed.

She has enjoyed showing off her new skill all day. You wouldn't think that yesterday she couldn't do it.

time to start babyproofing

Dofeellikedancing · 28/01/2007 20:54

Hello everyone. It's really good to read everyone posts. I can relate to all of it, especially the faddy eating aarrgh! my dd1 had the chicken pox just after xmas and I thought that dd2 had somehow avoided it but no, 3 days ago she came out in the dreaded blisters. DD1 only had a few spots and was quite well really, DD2 has been really really ill had spots absolutely everywhere and smiled for the first time in 4 days today.

I am so glad she is finally feeling better. She has so many scabby spots I can't imagine how thay are all going to disappear. Has anyone else's LO had chicken pox and is there any thing that you could recommend for helping the skin feel heal?

littlepiggie · 29/01/2007 19:34

Think we have sorted the not naping it the day thing, we put him in his grow bag on the off chance it would work, he screamed blue murder for about half an hour but then went to sleep.

Any ideas for summer though?

DebitheScot · 30/01/2007 10:52

I tried grobag too but it didn't work. He still stood up.
Think I've won this battle though, for a couple of days I didn't put him in bed till he was really really really tired and then he didn't bother fighting it. Today I put him in cot when he was just tired and he went to sleep instantly.

Have sorted out when I'm going back to work. 14th March, 3 days a week. Just need to find a childminder now.

Dofeellikedancing · 30/01/2007 20:40

Hi Littlepiggie, my DD2 likes her grobag to sleep and it was the same for her older sister. In the summer unless it was REALLY hot i would still put her in her grobag in just her nappy. You can get lightweight summer grobags but they are as ever pricey.

WriggleJiggle · 01/02/2007 14:21

Think I'm just about to copy you on the napping thing LittlePiggie. dd doesn't seem to nap at all at the moment, but gets really really grumpy. THink I'll try zipping her up and seeing what happens .... Not sure I can cope with 1/2 of crying though.

WriggleJiggle · 02/02/2007 19:31

Wahey. Today wa the first time ever dd had a proper nap in her own cot. I fed her, put her down, she cried for a couple of minutes then slept. Such a proud mummy moment . Stupidly I then woke her up by accident turning on the baby monitor as I was going to be outside. Doh.

pepperrabbit · 03/02/2007 22:14

good evening everyone, I've been awol again I'm afraid so I'll just pitch in the middle of the convo.
I got DS2 some summer grobags on ebay - excellent condition and much cheaper than in the shops/catalogues. I use one all year unless there's a real heatwave, just changing what they wear underneath.
DS2 had bronchiolitis last week and was very poorly indeed but is on the mend now. The doctor scared thepants off me though as he couldn't decide wether to hospitalise him or not, so sent me home with instructions to check his chest retractions, and come back in later or go straight to the hospital. That was tuesday which was awful, he is better now, though still not really eating, anything with lumps makes him choke as he's still full of mucus so pretty grim. Back to 4mnth baby jars I think for a while.
On a different subject - has anyone got back to their pre-baby weight??? Now they are all at least 9 months old - you know, 9 months on, 9 months off.
Someone forgot to tell my last half a stone I reckon as it's resolutely sitting on my tummy and hips making itself at home. .

pepperrabbit · 03/02/2007 22:15

Obviously the PG (little piggie and natty&thomas?) are excused......

Homsa · 04/02/2007 21:14

Hi pepper, sorry to hear your DS has been so ill, that reminded me of when I took my DS to the doctor's 3 years ago thinking I'd be told not to be such a neurotic mum, and instead she told me he had bronchiolitis and she was considering sending him to hospital!!! (she didn't in the end, and he recovered pretty quickly) It is scary though. My DD is on antibiotics for a chest infection atm, her never-ending cough finally turned nasty, poor little mite. I feel really guilty about sending her back to nursery once she's better, she's just picking up one bug after the next there.

I don't own a pair of scales so no idea what my weight is, but I don't think I'm quite back to pre-baby weight yet. Doesn't bother me though, I know that if I keep on bf for another 3 months or so it will just melt away (well if I lay off the chocolate for a while that is!)

No power struggles at naptime here as I can usually "boob" her to sleep if she puts up a fight, but I know the time is ticking on that trick!

DebitheScot · 05/02/2007 10:29

My ds has had a cough for 3 or 4 weeks now that doesn't seem to be getting any better or worse. It's not that bad but I think it's odd that he's had it for so long. It was very chesty and gurgly then it went very dry and barking (I took him to doc in that stage and he said his chest was clear so he was fine) but now its gone back to being chesty. I've had a cold lingering since before Christmas that will not go away so I'm guessing he's just got the same thing. Hopefully thats all it is.

I haven't stood on the scales for a long time, mind you I don't know what I weighed beofre I got pregnant. I think I'm pretty much back to what I was before apart from a bit of fat on my belly that won't go away (not that I make much effort to make it go!)

WriggleJiggle · 05/02/2007 20:51

All these poor little ones with coughs and colds. Its awful seeing them struggling isn't it and so worrying for us First Timers. I'm trying to persuade myself that the more bugs they pick up now, the better immune system they'll develop - or something like that .

Dd has reached the stage of unpacking. Every bag and cupboard has to be unpacked several times. Today she mnaged to pull the recyling bin over on top of her and empty the dogs water bowl twice. Arrrghhhh.

Anyone been to 'The Garden' at the Science Museum. We went on Saturday and it was fab - we spent hours in there.

littlepiggie · 05/02/2007 21:03

Lol, we have put the dogs bowl just inside the kitchen, then put a gate on the door, the poor dog has to be let in for drinks now as we dont let her in the kitchen.

Was back to pre baby weight, but with a bit of a belly, now cant fasten my jeans so went to get pg ones. was about 15-16 weeks last time, happend at 14 this time. Am at that harrible fat looking stage, took untill about 24 weeks before i looked pg last time, i just looked fat.
Still breastfeeding though so hope i dont gain too much weight.

NattyThomasandBump · 06/02/2007 20:28

i was less than pre-preg weight (yes i was LIGHTER than b4 i was preg amazing!) about 4 months ago, however i darent weigh myself now, at 24 weeks preg i look HUGE already. quite depressing really, however i did get loads of really nice maternity clothes in the next sale near me.

sorry i have been away for so long, i got married at the weekend, and have been frantically organising it as we had not done anything in the lead up to xmas and only booked reception on the 12th jan! i didnt look to bad i must say, and it all went swimmingly. i bought tom a suit on ebay hand he look SOOOOOO cute he outshone me everyone thought he was adorable and he was so well behaved.

we have a further development on the lactose allergy front. he is now allergic to soya..... so have had to switch his milk AGAIN and being referred to a dietician for further tests to check this is def an allergy. doctors!

Tom is pulling himself up, and standing alone for like a second before grabbing the nearest thing to steady him! we have also progressed from baby foods to him having what we eat pretty much. is anyone elses babies insisting on eating what you do? and only what you do? if i dont try it to show him how 'nice' it is he wont even try it. frustrating, as i dont like alot of veg, and have wonderful preg food aversions too nearly any strong flavoured/smelling foods. we are getting a table and chairs this week and will be feeding tom when we eat more to avoid the battles.
he is also being stubborn about sleeping during the day, making him super grumpy, but i tried the gro-bag thing, made him angry instead of upset and he screamed for nearly an hour before i gave up. hoping this is just a stage that he will grow out of, fingers crossed!!

gosh that was a long post, serves me right for not posting for such a long long time. i promise to post at least weekly from now on.

speak to you all soon
