Tummy bug here too, plus a cough that just won't go away. God, this sickness bug must be sweeping the country! The vomiting wasn't too bad, only lasted one night, but she hasn't had any solids for nearly 3 days now, only breastmilk. I'm not having her weighed again until she's back on solids, it will just scare the pants off me if she's actually lost some weight this time!

mellow, I don't know anyone who doesn't feel guilty about leaving their baby! I think it's part of the package and you just have to accept it. I only work (freelance) 3 mornings a week and I still feel bad every time I leave dd at nursery. It's because I know nursery simply isn't ideal for her at her age, however much I try to convince myself otherwise. But it's essential for my sanity and not all that bad for dd either, and I think you have to strike a balance between your lo's needs and your own.

mellownomore · 10/01/2007 14:15

Thx homsa. As far as childcare goes, it's split between dh and a friend/childminder. Fingers crossed it'll work out okay.

Tummy bug here, too!!!! I'm beginning to suspect that Mumsnet has secret powers we don't know about to transmit viruses!

DS1 & 2 and DH all had it at the same time. I've never seen so much poo and vomit everywhere. I am, so far, lucky enough to have escaped. I don't know how. However, I am suffering from exhaustion from staying up through the night with them all week and doing 100s of loads of washing.

Welcome Littlelapin. Your DS sounds a feisty as mine!

I've recently found several noises that make DS roar with laughter. "Zzzzzzzzzz", "Sssssssss", snorting and a sharp intake of breath have him in uncontrolable giggle fits. It's lovely.

sunnydevon · 12/01/2007 12:07

Hi, Happy New Year. I haven't written fro awhile, hello to little lapin from a relatively new poster too.

My dd is still frustrated at not being able to move herself (pulls herself into crawling position then goes barmy as shes near the ground, will moan cry for ages and cannot be cheered up until she's sat back up - sometimes in frustration she comando crawls, but is so upset she doesn't realise she's moved). Don't know if it relates to the colic probs she had before - can still be v. sicky when leaning over - or if anyone elses babies do this? She does stand up given an opportunity though; esp when we're trying to get her in her cot/pushchair/highchair/bath etc. Also, she loves to take a few steps if we hold her hands (more if we take some of her weight under her arms), but then seems to forget and stands still for ages looking like she's trying to will herself forward!

On the eating front she has days of eating most of the food offered to her then a day with less, then back up again. Same with talking, some days it's 'da da' 'ma ma' and 'key' (Sparky) for our cat, then next few days everything is 'eh' again. Same with waving - some days waves if we say 'hello and bye' or 'wave', other days is random, others too she looks at us as though we're barmy. I have recently read that lots of babies take a step back at one area if they start to develop in other areas though - unfortunatly this can be negative if they learn something new e.g. their sleep can be worse after learning to walk unaided (arghhhh - not something to look forward to!).

She went through a smiley stage and now seems to be going through a 'stranger danger' patch and is happy with new people in dh & my arms but doesn't like them to come too close outside our arms - takes awhile to 'warm up'. Gave the health visitor a real few screams before deciding she was fine after all! That was fine as my HV really p*ssed me off in the initial few weeks

Haven't had her weighed for a few weeks, but think she is still on the short side & plump according to clothes! (Trousers always long and 6-9 months clothes well filled across middle).

Better go before I go on too much...I have to be careful at work as lots of my sentences begin with "When I was pregnant..." Or talk about dd.

NattyThomasandBump · 14/01/2007 22:45

hi guys. found out friday that i am expecting a little girl, which is nice as i will have one of each.

WriggleJiggle · 14/01/2007 23:51

Congratulations, thats fab news.

Ponka · 15/01/2007 00:13

Congrats, Natty! I have to admit I'm slightly !

angelhunter · 15/01/2007 08:29

Many congrats

mellownomore · 15/01/2007 22:09

Congrats Natty!

Sunnydevon,
My dd is exactly at the same stage yours is. She says ma ma ma da da da and eh too. I speak Chinese to her and dh speaks English and we were wondering if she was approximating Chinese or English words! I guess she's speaking the universal baby language!

Funny what you were saying about being careful not to talk about your pregnancy or dd. I've just started work again last week and everytime I talk about pregnancy or dd, eyes glaze over.

I have to check my tongue everytime I'm tempted to talk about dd. Instead I save it for when I'm on MN.

Dofeellikedancing · 16/01/2007 00:02

Hi, can I join please?

I'm Daisy and just about getting used to having 2 LO's and finding time to do other things like checking out MN! My DD1 is 3 and DD2 is 8 1/2 months and just beginning to roll quickly around the room. This is fine except she can only move sideways!

DD2 is just getting over a horrible ear infection and I didn't realise how off colour she was until she got better. Just laughing and shouting at her big sister most of the time! Absolutely brilliant fun at the moment but I am dreading going back to work next month. know I will be fine when I get there but this time seems so precious as all of a sudden DD2 seems so big. Where has my tiny baby gone?

DebitheScot · 16/01/2007 09:39

hello dofeellikedancing. We've had quite a few new people joining recently.

Having just got ds over his tummy bug he then picked up a horrible cough just after new year (although I have heard from someone that the cough is part of the same bug that's causing the sickness, but that seens odd), he's been coughing, mainly at night for over a week now but I think it's clearing up.

In the last week he has learned to comando crawl and is now pulling himnself up to standing all the time and has started walking along the sofas. He can't get from lying down to standing yet, only from sitting to standing.
We went to a soft play place yesterday, he loved it (and I had fun playing too!)
I was also wondering the other day what happened to my tiny (ok, small, he was never tiny) baby, it's right what people say about them growing up so fast.

WriggleJiggle · 17/01/2007 10:18

dd has changed from an insy winsy 6 1/2 lbs to a great heaving monster.

Ok, a nice monster, but a monster none the less.

DebitheScot · 18/01/2007 16:06

I have just realised that if you click on someone's name in a thread you can see their profile (if they've made one)

NattyThomasandBump · 18/01/2007 22:31

hey guys just checking in. tom still not himself, soooo tired from sleepless nights, been to tired to type.

speak soon

N&T&B

Dofeellikedancing · 19/01/2007 00:42

Forget to say congratulations Natty on having a girl. I have 2 DD's and all I can say is prepare to enter planet pink! I have had a life long dislike of pink but my dd1 is so into pink, glitter and sparkles it is slowly appearing all over the house!

DebitheScot · 19/01/2007 10:42

And now I've dscovered that's coz the profile thing is a new feature.

Ponka · 19/01/2007 12:54

Welcome, Do feel like dancing!

DebitheScot, cute picture of Cameron. I assumed you lived in Scotland so I'm surprised you don't. I like this new profile thing.

Nip · 23/01/2007 11:18

Just a quick question, my DS now sleeps from 8pm until about 6am-6.30am.

Is this similar to your DC?

WriggleJiggle · 23/01/2007 19:29

Hi Nip, til 2 weeks ago my dd used to sleep 7-8pm ish through til 8-9am ish. I've just started taking her to a child minders though so all our 'routine' (the little of it that there was) has been thrown out. The last couple of days it has been 6.30pm til 7.30am.

tbh if when she's given the chance (at weekends) she goes 7pm-8am, quick feed then sleep til 9.30am.

She doesn't sleep at all during the day.

Dofeellikedancing · 24/01/2007 01:24

Hi Nip,
My DD sleeps in general 7pm until 7.30am ish. occasionally she wakes at 6.30 but then has a feed and goes back to sleep for an hour or so.

She aso has 2 sleeps in the day. One after breakfast around 9.30am for an hour. Will miss this out though if she has woken earlier and gone back to sleep. Also has an afternoon nap at around 1.30pm usually for 2 hours. She is very particular where she sleeps though! Loves to sleep in her own bed in her sleeping bag. Not so good when we are out and about! She is much more a stickler for routine than DD1.

DebitheScot · 24/01/2007 10:38

ds sleeps normally from about 7.30/8.00pm till 7.30/8.00am. He sometimes needs to be woken at 8.00am. His favourite trick his to need to be woken up Monday-Friday and then wake at 6.30/7.00 on Saturday and Sunday!

He then sleeps for exactly an hour and a quarter in the morning, about 10.00am ish and then between an hour and an hour and a half in the afternoon, starting any time from 1.30-3.00pm.

Yesterday afternoon he was not up for going to sleep at all and he then discovered how to stand up in his cot which made it worse. I ended up taking him for a drive to get him to sleep a least for a little while. Thats the forst time in 9 months I've had to resort to using the car to get him to sleep.

Nip · 24/01/2007 11:15

HHMmmm i'm worried that perhaps we are doing something wrong. My DS is a good sleeper but everyone i have spoken to seems to put them to bed earlier and they sleep longer.
Sometimes he'll go to bed early if very tired, but 8pm seems to suit him at the moment.
I'm a first time mum and have no-one close to talk to - hence why i'm asking stupid questions on here, sorry!

Dofeellikedancing · 24/01/2007 21:04

Hi Nip,

I am certain that it is not a matter of doing anything wrong, whatever works for you and your baby is whats right. I forgot to mention too that I generally put DD down awake so it is sometimes 20 minutes before she drops of to sleep. I think it also depends on the type of day she had and how much tea she ate!

WriggleJiggle · 25/01/2007 04:47

dd just woken up for a feed

Don't worry about doing anything wrong. We used to have dd going to bed at 9pm - it meant dh got to play with her, and I didn't get woken to early. The only reason for bringing her bedtime forward was so we could eat tea without a baby around .

My dd doesn't sleep at all during the day (5 minutes in the car was todays total of sleep), so she has to sleep for a while at night to make up for it iyswim.
