There are worse things kids can be fed though. I had a client who fed her kids just sweets and burgers. They had little black pegs for teeth Hmm

Pikz · 20/04/2014 08:42

< doesn't admit that L gets the odd m and s kids ready meal when mummy has just not got her act together or there are no leftovers >

YellowWellies · 20/04/2014 08:54

Jonas gets the 1 or 2 dairy free ready meals for lazy days or days when DH and I fancy a non dairy free meal. They're v good and have v healthy ingredients with no dodgy science experiment sounding chemicals. The chicken and leek crispbakes (like patties with breadcrumb coating) are a great hit here.

I know no one wants to look judgey pants but saying something has to be better than not - as others have said he needs to be chewing for development reasons and she needs to face up to food issues for both their sakes. There's a story told by my HV of a lady who pureed McDonald's as a first food and no one dared say anything as the Mum had food ishoos and was 'sensitive' - the salt could have killed her baby. Sometimes a word is the right thing to do and Pass you are like the least judgey sounding person I've ever met - good luck hon x

Passmethecrisps · 20/04/2014 08:55

P has had two happy meals and thought they were deeeelishas!

Thank you for your thoughts.
DH and I also talked about sending the Red Book so I will do this.
She works full time and her partner can't cook at all so all meals are down to her. Her cooking skill is poor to my knowledge - relying on packets and sauces.
The ready meals from the chiller are also a great idea. If she had a few of those it is a step forward.
I suspect some of it is fear due to not knowing how to eat well herself.

DH is off to work soon so we have a girls' day

Wandathewindfairy · 20/04/2014 08:55

I have been know to use the odd M&S ready meal, when there was an M&S in my life. Now, my freezer is full of homemade ready meals and pasta sauces, and, for emergencies, those boil In the bag cod I. Butter or parsley sauce. Remember those. Kids love them.

I think my back pain might be period, it feels like an ongoing contraction and goes round the front into my lovely old pelvis. I never usually get period pain. Hence the fuss.

BigPigLittlePig · 20/04/2014 09:15

I think everyone has come up with great suggestions, Pass. I hope something strikes a chord with your sister.

Thanks Poor VQ. F is ok this morning, just mega clingy - probably because she's tired. I start nigts tomorrow, 6 of the fuckers, am quite looking forward as I will get 6 or 7 hours unbroken sleep in the day.

Lily sounds like a nice plan, bet O loves the rabbits.

Is anyone elses baby totally animal mad? F has no fear, she loves everything feathered and furred, gets vair excited indeed.

Wandathewindfairy · 20/04/2014 10:19

I am feeling sooooooooo grumpy. How do I stop it?

ChasingDaisy · 20/04/2014 11:01

Outside Wanda. Fresh air, family cuddles, lots of chocolate.

Lily311 · 20/04/2014 12:09

Chocolate and a shag wanda, that should help.

PurplePidjin · 20/04/2014 12:22

Pass could you rave about your slow cooker? Chuck a pack of meat, a tin of tomatoes, an onion and a couple of carrots in for a few hours and it comes out fork maskable - and very very easy. Decent meals for the whole family :)

Wanda hot water bottle and a film. It's pissing it down here so am assuming it's no better up there? Chocolate and caffeine make my period cramps worse Easter Sad

R likes animals from a distance, will stand and stare at dogs in the park but I don't let him touch unless I get chatting to the owner. I can't imagine the consequences of a feral toddler charging at a nervous dog, for either child or worse the dog, so am currently teaching him not to touch at all. When he's bigger I'll teach him to ask permission properly. The park over the road has dogs off lead on the grassy bit before you get to the fenced play park bit so this comes up pretty regularly.

Zamboni · 20/04/2014 12:39

Wanda take it v easy. Roast beef in the oven here, DC off to the park with Granny. Lovely, apart from a banging headache, and I 'm tired due to musical beds at Granny's house Grin

S adores dogs. Is too very brave around them. Has been walking around always eating and DPs dog has been so good with him. But agree PP with potentially disastrous consequences for toddler and dog if over enthusiasm is allowed. I am a wuss so would never take them close to a dog I didn't know.

Pass you are obviously v sweet so I am sure you will manage helpful suggestions, in a non- judgey way. Could you offer to have DN and say - ooooh, DN loved x that I cooked, here are some leftovers and the recipie?

For no apparent reason, DH's SIL mashed DN's food until she was 3. It was v odd but she eats perfectly normally now. Think it was a combination of fear, lack of confidence and sticking with what worked. A very gentle HV prodded her on. DN totally fine etc now.

BigPigLittlePig · 20/04/2014 13:15

Luckily Fs enthusiasm is combined with shyness, so she stands about 2 metres away and points and giggles, before dragging me over to inspect more closely. She has perfected gently stroking thanks to pussypig and puppypig, and says "aaaaah" as she does it.Totally agree with the strange/unknown dog thing though - luckily F hasn't started demanding to be out of the pushchair yet

Wanda Biscuit and Brew

Roast lamb devoured, am with a sleeping F waiting for dh to clear the dishes so we can watch frozen.

PurplePidjin · 20/04/2014 13:22

We're having lamb for tea BP and ITV2 is on so we can watch Despicable Me when he wakes up Easter Grin

ValiumQueen · 20/04/2014 14:01

I have just made cup cakes to take to nursery for DD2s birthday tomorrow. Nearly killed me, and I did not even want to lick the bowl out. They look fab though Grin

Passmethecrisps · 20/04/2014 14:05

bp p is insanely enthusiastic about all things what breath and things what look like things what breath. She is shy of dogs though. Which is fine.

I have just made tomato, chickpea and smoked paprika soup and a beef and ale casserole. I am now sitting all smug mcsmugerson with myself.

zamboni I would love to do that but dn lives a very long way away and I couldn't take him. However, I do like the raving about recipes stuff. I suspect she knows anyway because I am always posting pics of P eating. She must twig. Anyway, I am going to go for a mixed approach of sending the red book and just trying to make food based chat. I am worried about her anyway. For weeks she has been vague-booking and I have seen nothing positive. The intervention starts here!!

And Shock at puréeing McDonalds yw!!! That is bonkers.

Passmethecrisps · 20/04/2014 14:09

Oh and a braved a full aldi shop alone with p. DH does it every week - I have no idea how! She insisted on either being carried round or walking while pushing or pulling the trolley. Mostly this was ok until trying to pack when she decided enough was enough and fecked off. 5 times. All I had left to do was pop the filled bags in the trolley and she just wouldn't be still long enough. Eventually a lovely lady who was queuing sent her wee girl over to stand and hold P's hand much to the amusement of all concerned.

I never see other babies behave like this. I was mentally doing the ADHD checklist in my head . . .

persepolis123 · 20/04/2014 14:13

wanda If it's not raining go for a walk or do some light exercise. Always makes me feel better.

pass I would be concerned too. The book idea is a good one. She probably doesn't know how or what to cook.

We are having a lazy day here. No plans at all. It's so nice not having to rush anywhere.

Passmethecrisps · 20/04/2014 14:14

And! P got her first finger licking off a wee doglett in France. The owner asked if she would like "un petit caress?" And she got her fingers slobbered on.

Right. I am buggering off now to leave you all in peace.

Blahblahblahblahblahblah

PurplePidjin · 20/04/2014 14:16

VQ is it not a public holiday in Scottishland tomorrow?

Passmethecrisps · 20/04/2014 14:19

Nope. I am werking as well.

Definitely buggering off now

ValiumQueen · 20/04/2014 14:24

Nursery only closes Christmas week. She wants to go in for the morning, so she can. I am off as my work class it as a public holiday, and the schools are off here, but not where Pass works. I don't quite understand the Scottish system of a public holidays, I must admit.

ValiumQueen · 20/04/2014 14:25

Besides I need her out if the way to sort her presents out.

ValiumQueen · 20/04/2014 14:27

Don't bugger off Pass Thanks

Paisleychick · 20/04/2014 14:39

I was going to ask the same question Vq about nursery being open. H's nursery was closed all week last week, two weeks off for summer and a week off at Christmas as well as the bank holidays.

Flouncy I didn't realise there was a place called Paisley. I chose it because of Prince, and Paisley Park. I'm a bit of a fan.

We are all having a very lazy day, I've eaten my egg, the lamb is in the oven, and will be for at least another 2 hours. We are all chilling apart from ds1 who is doing a bit of GCSE's revision. Wish the weather was a bit better.

Paisleychick · 20/04/2014 14:45

Oh and H has no interest in animals at all, it's like they don't exist. Double decker buses he loves.
