Ladies, babies, and bumps, welcome to the new thread!

Should we start this off with an update from us all like last time? I thought that was nice, especially for those who get little chance to catch up.

OP posts:

Chully · 21/08/2006 21:59

Hi Mum2jc! I'm relatively new here too; my ds is only 4 days older than your lo, so they must be pretty much at a similar stage.

Lol, Londoner - Jonty's occasional 'steps' result in immediate falling over, so it defintiely isn't him! (Although he got his 1st pair of 'proper' pre-walking shoes today that my step-MIL got him fitted for - he looks really grown up!)

Beks and Londoner, we completely gated off our kitchen area so that J can't get to the cat food!

Nova, glad the scan went well, hope you're not feeling to sick still.

So, I'm off to bed, ready for another 05:20 start for work...it's so dark in the mornings now!

mum2jc · 21/08/2006 22:16

Chully - Jonty taking steps that seems a long way off for my pom. She sits up but collapses back when she's tired and does mini press ups when laying on her tummy. How long has he been doing it for, did it come all of a sudden? I think i better prepare myself with stairgates soon .

Chully · 22/08/2006 06:17

Mum2jc, don't worry - enjoy your ds's press-ups while she's still doing them! Jonty started crawling 3.5 months ago, and has been cheerfully belting up flights of stairs etc for ages. But I know loads of babies who are quite happy to lie back and take the world in at a calmer pace - enjoy it! (I'll trade you...)

Diege · 22/08/2006 08:13

Hi everyone! Wecome to mumtojc! Good to hear about your lo, and of course we will make you very welcome Gosh CHULLY what is it you do that warrants such an early start!! It's one thing being awake at that hour, but having to get out of the house!!!urghh!!! Hope the children are recovering from the whooping cough LONDONER - you must be shattered!!
BEKS: We have the love-hate mum/dad thing all the time with dd2 who's 4 in November. It can be quite hurtful at times I agree, esp. when you're planning what you think of as exciting stuff, or even just watching videos together. It's so common apparently, but know what you mean!! tbh I'm sometimes releived when it's my turn to be 'gone off'!!LOL at your horseriding fib!! Didn't realise there's an age restriction!! Jolly good! Something else I can put off till next year!! .
Well, we're off to the Ant Bully today, and I've also kept dd2 off nursery so I can take them both (mad I know!)They are bickering already over who looks like who on 'High 5' ...
Well, need some serious advice/coping strategies re: my upcoming hols to Portugal (me, a girlfriend, and our 6 children who are all under 7 . What have we done!!! Oh and L is a screaming teething baby at the moment!! How will I get through it?? Is there any remote possibility we will actaully have a good time??? Should I even contemplate taking a book???
Speak later!

novadandypowder · 22/08/2006 09:39

Hi mum2jc, and welcome

Diege - lol and taking a book!!! I love your optimism . I think you'd be better off with valium

Beks - I can offer sympathy, but am a bit short on advice given that I have yet to experience the joy of toddler/small child-dom, but I actually think it's healthy for children to get a bit bored/make their own entertainment, otherwise you'll run yourself ragged trying to keep them amused 100% of the time. My parents never took my sister and I to anything, we had to make do with playing in the garden/local park/in bedroom. Do Surestart have any stay and play 's near you? We have 2 in a short walking distance and now noo can crawl I can take her there.

As for crawling, forget stairgates etc.. the best way to control it is to have a wooden floor. Noo either slides on it, or the hardness hurts her knees after a while so she has to sit down . She's getting very good at it now though.

Diege - we are also in teething hell, which I could really do without right now. Had to sleep next to her last night as even the Calpol wouldn't help her drop off.

tessasmum · 22/08/2006 12:20

Hello everyone and welcome to mum2jc.

Well we have really bitten off a lot this week!!!
DH has finally got fed-up with sharing his office with Ash (it took about 4 months longer than I had hoped!) and got a builder bloke round last Thursday to discuss extending the garage to add an office. I assumed, in the way of these things, that it would be sometime next year, after all we were looking at butchering bunkbeds to fit a cot underneath last week so they could share a room.
Somehow I had a skip arrive at 7.15 this morning, now have a garden full of builders and am being asked which way we want to hang a door
Either hot sweet tea or a large G&T is called for

Will try and post something sensible later!

Londoner · 22/08/2006 14:37

Hi all,

Just a quickie to say kids seem a lot better although E is coughing and sneezing a bit so still watching her closely. BEKs, they must be talking about someone else... you are one of the busiest mum's I know and always telling us all the great things you're up to with your 2.... agree with others that mine have done this too... sorry your feelings got hurt. I wonder if your dh is busier than usual at the mo? Sometimes mine behave like this/say these sorts of things if their dad is a bit busy or doesn't spend enough time with them?
Tessa...fantastic news...go girl!
Diege, thanks for thinking of us, hope you all enjoy the movie. Beats changing all your locks like me in between baby duties, grrrrrr, don't ask! My advice for the hol is to gear yourself up mentally....situation anticipation usually works for me.... when are you off again?
Bye....

Londoner · 22/08/2006 14:39

Oh chully so sweet about 's shoes! Nova, hope those teeth come soon...and Natalie is crawling! ...look out cats!

Diege · 22/08/2006 21:23

Evening!! Gosh quiet on here today, will whisper... Hope everyone is fine, and that the babies are doing well . 'Ant bully' was okish, though girls became 'monsters' demanding more and more 'stuff' after I'd succombed to a few treats , must learn from that one!
DH has all 3 tommorrow while I am in work, and has a dentists trip thrown in for good measure . I know I shouldn't laugh, but I'm sure he will enjoy spending time with them on his own!! NOVA: thanks for Valium advice - Am taking sleeping tablets with me , and lots of nurofen too!! We go on Saturday, and am still at the 'thinking about doing a list' stage...made a mistake last time we went away and tried the old 'add as you go along' method which usually results for me in an inbalance of tops and bottoms!! Must start some constructive poacking soon!! BTW LONDONER, re ref to locks, you haven't been broken into have you??? Ignore me if i'm being dense!!!
TESSA: how exciting about the extension . It will be worth the sweaty builder's bums etc to get some more space!!!! We have just moved the eldest dds into dd1s bedroom in bunkbeds, so L has at last moved out of our room!! I still lie awake weighing up whether or not to risk turning over or not for fear of waking her, lol!!
Will try and get on tommorrow though have 7-6 day at work . Really looking forward to getting my roots done on Friday!!

twinkle1 · 23/08/2006 08:58

Diege · 23/08/2006 11:16

Morning!!! Cocooned in the safety of my office, with DH at home at the mercy of dds . Feels very nice to ring up for a 'chat' and then put the phone down . Don't feel bad as will be suitably 'hnads on' in Portugal next week!!!
TWINKLE: you will LOVE Butlins . My sister just got back from a week there with dh and her two dds, and had a ball!! (well, the kids did ) Know what you mean about the school hols and I've got just the one at school age!
Yes, we should def. arrange a day/time soon. Wednesdays is best for me, as I'm def. not at work on wed from sept. I will have 2 with me (Libby and Scarlett) but after Portugal will be able to do anything/go anywhere with them with my new found confidence (though you are more than welcome to come to my house so I can be a complete lazy arse!!!)
Right, the last few souls are trying to scrape a place through Clearing, so better get off here and make someone's day !!
Speak later!

ChaCha · 23/08/2006 13:43

Hello everyone

I haven't managed to read each individual post yet but i hope to later this evening when i have some time alone - have managed a quick skim and see that Londoner's E hasn't been too well - how is she now - any better? And what was wrong?

We have been in Yorkshire for a few days, then at my mum's who has moved just under an hour away (yippee! extra hands). DS and I both have colds but we are getting better, just a snotty little nose and a cough that keeps him awake now, poor baby.

Love title of this thread and will read all baby updates later. Great idea!

DS is 8.5 months old, still commando crawling but doing it very well. Has 2 bottom teeth and a new one coming through on top. Eats very well, tries to run me over in baby 'exerciser', will only sleep being cuddled or rocked vigorously - grandad comes in very useful for this but will be leaving us next week - hmmm! Is lots of fun, gives lots of cuddles and in fear of writing an essay about him will leave it there

As for me, i'm doing okay other than the sickness (14 wks tomorrow) and the cold i'm managing well - just keep going really.

I look fwd to catching up with all your news later, have a good day and love to all x

Londoner · 23/08/2006 14:46

Hi,

Diege, lol at you enjoying a day 'off'. Sounds like a v.long one, hope your dh has them all bathed and ready for a bedtime kiss when you get home, oh and of course dinner on the table and copy of Grazia....
Hi Twinkle, hope you have a great holiday....
BEKs lol at your Tom loving the Felix.... oh and the shopping trip didn't happen, we were all too knackered... went locally to the luuuuurvely industrial estate with E in pushchair.... ended up losing my keys hence the changing locks yesterday - no break in thankfully Diege - and found them again today...... ah well, now I know how to change a lock.
Update on E which I didn't get round too.... she....
? is 9 months and 3 weeks old.
? Likes crawling and standing up. Also kneeling up.
? Has 4 teeth.
? Can clap.
?Can change tv channels repeatedly at high speed on the remote using just her teeth!
? Babbles a lot and can say Mama and Dada and has recognisable special names for her siblings. Says ' a cat!' when she sees one, and also says 'tiger!' to her tiger toy. Food and drink are called 'Babum'.
? Favourite toy for sleeping with is a pink 'JellyCat' mouse.
? Is on the 25th centile for weight and 75th for height.
? Loves food and also bf, which she calls 'ani'.
?Loves giving hugs and 'kisses'.
?Is gorgeous.

Londoner · 23/08/2006 14:56

CHaCha! Welcome back! X-Post(yes it took me 1.5 hrs to complete post)
Good to read your news, and hope you both get over your colds v.soon. Wow, 14 weeks!
E seems okay, other kids have had 'mild' bout of whooping cough(3 weeks so far) although immunised as babies and so I'm just watching E very carefully now, she has slight cold symptoms and has coughed a few times so i'm slightly on tenterhooks there.
Lol at Z mowing you down in his walker, you're so funny! Lovely to hear of his commando style crawling, can just picture him. Oh no to Grandad going, nooooooo, come baaaaaaaaaaaack! You're gonna be okay ChaCha. Can you get one of those nursery nurse trainees to bop over, through your hv?

01kiwicath · 23/08/2006 15:32

Hi there all....

Becs mentioned you meet up sometimes at the greenwich park....sounds perfect for me.
We have just recently arrived from NZ/Australia
(I am a kiwi but was living in Aus for the last year) and am keen to meet some new mums/friends and of course buddies for my daughter Dominique (almost 10mths)....
All our friends we know here are baby-less so I need to chat with some Mums....

Any planned meet-ups??????
Cheers, Cath :0

Londoner · 23/08/2006 15:39

Hi 01kiwicath,

Yep, you're in the right place!
A good few of us are nearby. As soon as school term begins, 5th Sept I think I'll be free to meet up although some of the others includind BEKs might be up for something sooner?

Gotta go!

01kiwicath · 23/08/2006 15:49

Yay...fantastic!

It was a little daunting moving to London with a baby and I was worried about how I would get into a new mUms group, had a nice wee group back in Melbourne......
So I'm thrilled to have found you guys, look forward to catching up whenever suits everyone.

P.s Is there some sort of baby activties centre close by??? Like a gymbaroo??

twinkle1 · 24/08/2006 09:02

twinkle

GarfieldsGirl · 24/08/2006 12:46

I love it Twinkle, that sounds like so much fun!

mum2jc & kiwicath, Welcome aboard.

Day 1 without DP and I'm loving it. I have my Owen back, Owen has his mum back, and the house is tidy. I've cleaned the settee, hoovered all over the house, tidied the back room, swept & mopped the kitchen & conservatory floors, tidied the bedroom, watched Sean throw all the books & dvds on the floor, cleaned the bathroom, put washing out, changed the sheets, dusted, sneezed, arranged to see some of Owens friends tomorrow and one day next week, played with the boys, just about to go out with them on Owens bike (not all of us on the bike of course) and its still 5 hours 'til I have to go out and get him from work!

I think the boys are under the bed!!!!!!

GarfieldsGirl · 24/08/2006 12:51

Oh, and news. Tumbletots has moved to a new leisure/community centre, all big and shiny and nice. I've just heard that it was burnt down last week. Arson, someone left a motorbike by the back door and torched it. Its got to be pulled down. So am waiting to find out what happens now with TT. So .

Take care peeps!

Diege · 24/08/2006 14:41

Hi TWINKE, GG!! (and a welcome to the newbies )Wow gg, how have you managed to do all that!! How, how!!???? I feel tired just reading about it . about your leisure centre - sickening the effect things like that have on the community. Same happended with our local community centre, and now the groups that met just don't exist anymore, which is so sad. Hopefully TT will continue for you!! I've just found out the Joe Jingles class I take dds to on a wed has moved to a Friday (after I'd changed to 0.8 to be at home of weds as they love it so much!)Oh well, will have to seek out other 'group', though quite daunting going to new places I find!! Remember LONDONER going to a new a while back and it being q.scary!! Do you still go LONDONER??
Sounds busy at yours too TWINKLE ...phew...but lots of fun
Well, dh coped admirably with dds yesterday, despite losing dd1 in park (massive search jobbie apparently ), and leaving booby trap rolled up wet nappies everywhere (don;t get me started on lids off things, my pet hate ).
L is in nursery today, and dh has kept dd2 off with dd1 so he can take them swimming . It will be odd just to pick L up from nursery tonight!!
Well, going to start my packing marathon for Portugal tommorrow - out tonight with friend who I'm going with, to talk through the battle plan/survival strategy. We are already thinking along the lines of a 'Kids club', lol!!
Hope all are well!

GarfieldsGirl · 24/08/2006 20:08

lol Diege, I'm not too sure how I managed it. Just the relief I think of having the house (sort of) to myself. Jobs, like the back room & bedroom I've been looking at for months. Don't expect it to happen though for another few months!

How typical of your Jo Jingles class moving day. I do agree it can be very daunting trying new classes/groups. I've found they can often be very cliquey and you (or certainly I) just end up sitting there for 2 hours saying nothing.

You've reminded me of a question I wanted to ask you all. When you're out, what do you do with used nappies? I always do as I would at home, i.e. put nappy and wipes in nappy bag, then put that in the bin. DP does the same, but we've both found that so often you put the bag in the bin and its just full of nappies & wipes, not in bags. Surely we're not the only ones who bag it up 1st?

Chully · 24/08/2006 21:17

Hello KiwiCath, everyone here's really nice

GarfieldsGirl, please feel free to pop over and clean/tidy our house any time you fancy! I can't believe you did so much! I find it impossibly hard to clean up with Jonty around - mainly because he absolutely adores the hoover, so he chases it around laughing hysterically, then when he catches it he tries to mount it! (Don't ask!)

Oh, and in answer to the question, I always put my nappies and wipes in a nappy bag when I'm out (same as at home)- but I know what you mean, when I open the lid there are never any other bags in there! Perhaps we're doing it wrong?

Diege, good luck with the packing! (I went to South Africa in March, just J and I, and I literally had room for some knickers and 2 t-shirts of my own - absolutely every other square inch was taken up with baby clobber!)

Twinkle, hope the colour washes out, or they'll look daft in their wedding pics!

(Oh, and Diege, to your question a few days ago, I don't do too mad a job to have to leave home early, it's just that I work 65 miles from where I live, so I have to leave by 06:20 to get there, but then leave work at 16:30 the other end, which isn't so bad - honest!)

novadandypowder · 25/08/2006 19:06

aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I feel so siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccccccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkk

Chully · 25/08/2006 20:51

Aw Nova - still feeling pretty foul, I take it?! How long did this go on for last time? I really hope it wears off soon and you 'bloom'! (I never bloomed - still waiting to! )
