Ladies, babies, and bumps, welcome to the new thread!

Should we start this off with an update from us all like last time? I thought that was nice, especially for those who get little chance to catch up.

OP posts:

Hi ya

Just thought I'd post a wee note to tell you about us....DD is 10mths and is so fun and happy at the mo, yeah I won't hold my breathe that willl last, although she has always been pretty mellow and easy! Crawls around alot but loves standing the best, always pulling herself up, no major crashes YET!
Has started biting her cot rail....as in theres a big hole, like a mouse would make....any suggestions on how to stop that wee habit????
Just the 2 tooth at the mo, but with mega drool, I'm guessing some more are on their way.
I'm loving being a stay at home Mum....want 2 more but DH only wants 1.....however, being the stubborn scorpio that I am and the fact that I have to do the 9 mths I think I get the final say!
DD is Dom (dominique) btw and we'd love to go to the meet up that I've heard mentioned....any more details??
Better go, off to meet DH after work.
Hope you all have a super week.
Cath

ChaCha · 04/09/2006 21:30

Hi ladies,

Brownie - Sorry to hear about your grandad Thinking of you.

Diege - Welcome back!!

Londoner - You must be worn out!! Hope you have some help or at least working shifts with DH/family member. Keep us posted on all your progress, poor you!! Look after yourself.

Chully - Hope J is getting over his cold now.

Thank you for all your birthday wishes. I had a good weekend away and DS enjoyed all the attention particularly from friends'daughter all aged between 10-14 who were practically dying to hold/feed/entertain DS, not to mention making his bottles and meals. Bliss!! Wish i had a teenage daughter now.
Have got almost everything ready for our holiday and am really looking forward to going now - can't believe DS has his own passport (really makes me giggle) he looks like a mini bouncer.

DS was 9 months old yesterday

Have to go through blood tests this week. Should have done it weeks ago! Eeeeek!

Love to all x

babyboo1and2 · 04/09/2006 22:57

hi beksmum, my ds has just turned 8 years and dd will be one early nov,

i am returning to work tomorrow part time and it will be first time for dd to go to child minder (was different with ds as my mum looked after him for me)- dont mind going back to work really as enjoy my job but am sad at leaving dd with CM - any tips from anyone ?

found out today colleague from work has had 14lb baby! makes my eyes water - thought i had it bad with 10lb ds

novadandypowder · 05/09/2006 14:39

hmm - I was a nervous wreck about leaving noo with a CM, but she's been with us 6 months now and they have a good relationship. I actually think it's healthier for noo to be looked after by someone else apart from me for a couple of afternoons a week, and the break from each other is good. Not really advice there, but children are a lot more resilient then we think, and I'm sure your lo will have a good day

Londoner · 05/09/2006 17:53

Hi all,

Thanks so much ChaCha, it is pretty worrying but had some treatment for my croc neck today which helped and am going to try some homeopathic treatment for the kids. Poor E had horrid coughing fit today, but is v. much herself in between bouts. Good luck with your blood tests, which day are they and are they just the general check on wellbeing ones? lol at Z's passport pics like a bouncer, ha ha, can just picture it, you' re so funny! How is the little commando crawler? 9 months eh... and how is the bean? How are you coping with the sickness, found anything useful apart from the cola?
Hey Diege, welcome back.... glad you just about made it in one piece... sounds like you deserve a few medals... if you can survive that you're equipped for anything life cares to throw at you..... hope you're enjoying being back on terra firma.
Good luck back at work tomorrow babyboo, are you excited, nervous, dreading it or all of the above? Good luck with cm you will get some good support on here from others who use them, nova and Diege have exp.

Hi everyone else too.... gotta go!

Londoner · 05/09/2006 17:55

Oh, and lovely to read your update on Dominique Kiwicath, would love to meet up just as soon as baby is better...

babyboo1and2 · 05/09/2006 22:08

hi everyone

CM said dd didnt cry once all day and was amazed at how much food she can put away! when i collected her i could see she was happy, just hope it continues like this

i enjoy my job and the people i work with (been there around 14 years) so i was excited to go back but doesnt stop me missing dd

dd is 10 months this fri, she has 7 teeth, incredibly sticky up hair no matter what i do to it and such a beautiful smile, she doesnt crawl yet but is trying so hard to do so (dh says she has no impetus to crawl seeing she gets picked up moment she moans!)

had a visit from HV recently who said i shouldnt be breast feeding dd during the night as it only encourages her to wake up (at moment she wakes up once or twice each night for a quick feed) does this happen to others ? to be honest i dont mind as we both fall back to sleep very quickly but i dont want to set up a routine which is very hard to break (HV advised offerring water at night not breastmilk)

01kiwicath · 06/09/2006 08:50

hi babyboo

wow....7 teeth thats heaps!
i love the sound of the sticky up hair, so cute!
i agree with the HV as thats what mine advised also... (around 6mths)....even changing if they have a wet nappy in the cot, give them as least amount of attention as poss so they don't get used to the cuddle and expect it....sometimes dom wasn't even hungary, so you might wnat to try it. i'm sure even though you don't mind, you'll love even more a whole sleep thru the night
good luck....

hope everyone is doing ok....londoner, hope you are better, well getting that way!
browniechick....big hugs xxx

Diege · 06/09/2006 09:55

Morning everyone . Have come down with bad cold, so haven't been on much! Welcome kiwicat and babyboo ; really good to hear your news and updates on babies . We also have a sticky-up hair baby, who has become a bottom shuffler over night! Re: childminders, we started a new one yesterday for dd1, and all went well . dds 2 and 3 (L 10 months) go to nursery 4 days a week, and get on really well there . It's amazing how quickly they (and you) adjust, although I have found from past experience that they adjust better the earlier you get them used to other people etc, though everyone's different of course .
Gosh LONDONER sounds like a nightmare at yours!!! Phew, makes my week away seem easy by comparison !! CHACHA, good luck with blood tests - just regular ones or maternal serum testing?? (nosey aren't I!)NOVA: fingers crossed your sickness will abate soon; have had HG with 2 out of my 3 pregnancies, and will never forget how bad I felt; have you tried the HG website??
Re: meet-up in Stratford, am hoping we will be able to make it, though have been surprised how far away Stratford is from Warrington!! 3.5 hours on train, with 3 changes, including one on 'foot'!!). Think we would come by car, and dh is being really encouraging etc, though it would take us aBOUT 2.5 hours. Thinking perhaps we would stay over night before?? The only weekend we would struggle with would be 16/17th sept, as it's my mum's birthday party. Have been too lazy to read back and see the suggested dates
TWINKLE: I'm free most weds, so we could meet up in manc/.salford, or my house . Would have to be back to collect J from school, and I'll have Scarlett with me, but feeling confident after my week away with all 3 .
Right, better get madam up from nap
Speak later,
Diege

GarfieldsGirl · 06/09/2006 10:10

Hi all

Brownie, so sorry to hear your news, sendig hugs and thoughts your way.

Londoner, Oh no, not E too. Hope the homeopath is able to help.

Diege, 11 hr delay, what a nightmare. But you're back out the other side, well done!

babyboo, I still feed Sean at night. He goes through phases, he'll have a week only waking up once, and then a couple of weeks (like now!!!) where he wakes up hourly. I just tend to let him get on with it, and I'll worry about it in a few months time.

How are all the new school children doing? Owen didn't want to go yesterday, I had to drive him there (carrying him to car), then he went and held his teachers hand. Today though, was a different story, he went on his bike, ran off and played in teh field and 'treasure garden', then when it was time ran inside. Makes for a far happier mummy!

Stratford is looking unlikely for me. DP and I had a huge screaming match at the weekend whichh resulted in me telling him to leave. I have let him back in on the condition he spends his day off with us. But he feels we don't get the evenings togetehr as I'm always on the computer (yes because I don't want to watch bladdy cricket or star trek), so we're watching dvds and stuff in teh evenings now, and I don't think he'd be too thrilled after all this if, on his day off I was meeting my internet friends.

BEKs, I'll still be able to meet up at 1/2 term, although our 1/2 terms always seem to be different from the rest of the country. This year ours is 23-27 Oct, how about you?

Rodeo · 06/09/2006 11:16

Morning all!
Haven't been able to get on the past few days as BIL borrowed the laptop. How inconsiderate! Seems I have a lot to catch up on
Firstly Brownie, really sorry about your Grandad After going through it so recently myself I know what you must be going through. Hugs and best wishes from me x x x
Welcome back Diege 2.5 hour a night, oh poor you! And how typical to have a long delay when you're travelling with children. You are a star for getting everyone through it alive! And that awful woman at passport control Who is she?! Who is she?! Where did they find her!! Glad you're back too, we've missed you
GG, Sorry to hear things are tough at the moment, hope you get it back on track soon. It can be hard to keep things going esp. after a new baby, it does take a special effort to carry on doing things together, even if MN is calling!
Babyboo I'd agree with GG and dismiss you're HV advice, if your happy to feed at night then carry on. She's still v.young and relies on these nighttime feeds to feel close to you It should naturally tail off, but in the meantime you're doing an amazing thing!
Oh Londoner, you poor thing! How long is it expected to last? Sending get well wishes to them all
Nova, LOL at quips at dh, they always bear the brunt don't they?! Thoroughly justified though! Reminds me off my post birth quest to get dp a vasectomy! Even though I've been sterilised - if they could just go through a 10th of what we do.....
Chacha, glad you had a good birthday and nice weekend! Sounds like you had a good relaxing break
So Stratford, are we looking early October (the 1st/8th) that's fine with us, probably makes it a bit easier, you know how unorganised I am? (Hope this is ok with you Brownie?) We will be coming in the car too, told dp he can go and have a wander or stay with us, but he's fine with it (I've been prepping him for weeks!) Would be great if you could make it too Kiwi, it's Stratford upon Avon we're meeting, about 100 miles from London?
Well it was Bella's first day at the Juniors today, she went off fine after a few tears last night. Joe's first day is Friday, though he has an hour there tomorrow, so he's currently enjoying the last few days of freedom in the garden with his cousin! L&Smum's Layla's first day was yesterday, she was fine too, not sure about L&Smum though, think there were a few tears!
Anyway better get back too the housework, sorting through toys and sorting drawers and cupboards, bit of a end of holiday clean, so speak later x x x

browniechick · 06/09/2006 12:17

Hi all, just a quickie whilst at work!
Firstly - thanks for all your kind words, hugs and thoughts for my Grandad - much appreciated. Funeral is next Tuesday (First night back at Brownies too!!) so will be off Monday and Tuesday next week. Have written a few words to say at his funeral, one is a beautiful verse which I had at my wedding, and then a couple of words about what he meant to me - it made me cry when writing it, so will no doubt blart ont he day! but hey - I don't care!

October is fine with me for meet up - have also prepared DH who is happy to come along! Diege - I know the route very well from Warrington to Stratford, having much family round your way (was up in Penketh at the weekend in fact!) 2½ hours would be a fairly long run, have done it in less - but you could always stay the night before - how exciting, am sure you would love it (would offer to put you up - but don't think we have enough space!) Am strangely looking forward to it - it will be so nice to put faces to names!

GG - so sorry you aren't going to make the meet - and also to hear you are having a tough time at the mo - hope this sorts itself out soon.

Londoner - hope all poorly babes are on the mend now....poor you!

All others, hope you are well, sorry for brief, fairly self-absorbed post, hope to be back to "normal" after next Tuesday!

Brownie
x

novadandypowder · 06/09/2006 21:01

Evenin' all

Rodeo - you did make me lol with your 'who is she'

Londoner - hope you're hanging in there

Chacha - I don't think I sent birthday cheers your way (?), so please accept my belated good wishes

Do you all still wind your babies? When do you have to stop?

Still finding noo wonderful to be with, this is such a lovely age.

Beksmum · 06/09/2006 21:18

Hi ladies

Londoner hope you are bearing up under the strain, what a nightmare for you. Hope the kids are feeling better soon and that you get some relief from your neck.

Flipping heck, don't think I can make the meet up either as the 1st we have a 50th b'day party and the 8th we're going to west wales. Really sorry girls

GG Sorry to hear things are so rough for you at the moment, I think our half term is the week before but don't worry as Ben is still only at pre-school so we can do either Tuesdays or Thursdays of that week or I'll just take him out of pre-school for the day. If you need to let off steam to someone just give me a call, I'm a pretty good listener if it helps.

Diege well done on surviving the holiday and for not slapping that passport control woman, after so little sleep I would have wiped the floor with the back of her head

Nova we still wind Tom occasionally, but in general he can get his own wind up now although we do find if we let him fall asleep straight after his last bottle he can be disturbed int he night by his own farts

Rodeo, hope Joe enjoys his fist day on Friday, all Ben's friends start tomorrow, I'm just hoping he copes ok without them all being around. I've just had to point out the luxury of still being able to go for days out when all his friends will be at school.

L&Smum, you certainly weren't the only one of my friends to shed a few first day tears, I've had quite a few calls from friends saying exactly the same thing!

Chacha good luck with the blood tests, know how much you love them, they won't be so bad this time round as you'll know what to expect.

Nova I've got to agree with you, I'm loving being with Tom at the moment, he is just fab, standing all the time, starting to cruise and giving big wet kisses, although with 8 teeth these often turn into bites which can be a bit painful.

Right best stop yacking, hope everyone else is well, Speak soon Beks

Rodeo · 07/09/2006 09:39

Morning, Just a quick one as Joe has his school visit in an hour and I have to get him into his uniform, currently up to his eyes in mud in the garden again, think he may be turning feral....
Nova, I haven't winded Jess for ages, for a moment I thought 'Wind? What's that then?'! Glad you enjoyed the Nickyism, did you see the programme last night? My favourite bit was of her in the cabin just screaming 'I'M NOT HELPING!!'
Hi Beks, I'm sure Ben will be fine this week, and you are right about days out! And it won't be long her goes after Christmas doesn't he? Which is only about 16 weeks away!!
You are all right, they are so lovely at the moment Jess's favourite game at the moment is playing in the dirty dregs in the door of the dishwasher, mixing them up with her fat hands, yuk!
Well Bella loved her first day in the juniors yesterday, it's such a big school (with 4 full classes in each year group) it's like a mini Secondary, so she feels very grown up with her homework diary and timetable
Right better be off, but before I go has anyone seem baby Cruise's hair?!! My friend's little girl was born with hair like that and it didn't fall out so she has a really thick dark bob by the age of one!
Speak later x x x

Londoner · 07/09/2006 09:51

Hello everyone, thanks so much for your support guys... things are looking up this morning. All kids in school and E sleeping peacefully having eaten some breakfast. Shiatsu seems to have helped her so much as she's been bringing up masses of gunk ever since she had it when I had some for my neck, magic! Fingers crossed this is it. Coughs are still continuing sporadically but mostly at night, they're all over the vomiting cough bit though thank goodness and are no longer contagious. Rodeo, it's called the '100 day cough' so I expect they'll all continue coughing for some time... so far we're on week 6....
GG, so sorry to hear you're going through it, strength to you and also [hugs]. So good to read I'm not the only one feeding baby in the night so much, you're so easy going about things GG, am full of admiration. Reading your advice to babyboo was so helpful. Can't believe how little support we get for bf from hv's, mine said I must switch to formula immediately when my dd1 was 11 months and feeding so often and you know what i did as I was just so knackered. Babyboo, it sounds like you were asking your hv for support and that you are okay with the night feeds? In which case I don't know why she should suggest you stop, makes me wonder how qualified she is on this subject. If you were telling her you were completely shattered and at your wits end with it etc then that's one thing but IMO if you're happy to give bf and baby settles easily then why rock the boat, it's not like baby will still be doing it at 15 or anything... very soothing and full of goodness too.
BEKs, was wondering how Ben was getting on what with his friends all 'missing', good to hear your update, oh and on wet baby kisses as well, so lovley!
Nova, great to hear you're enjoying Noo so much despite chronic m.sickness - did you start homeopathy btw, notice any relief at all?
Diege, not suprised you've come down with lurgy, you poor thing. I expect your body is demanding rest and recuperation after your stressful hols. Good news about cm working out... and b-r-e-a-t-h-e...... hope you feel better very soon and can get some rest.
Rodeo, lol at Joe enjoying last day of 'freedom' before the onslaught of school, hope he enjoys his hour today. How is Bella enjoying the juniors, does she like it? How are you and your blondie babe getting on, just think, you'll have her all to yourself and as of next week can masquerade as a first time mum at all the baby groups.
Where's BoB? Are you out there BoB? Hope you and little O are okay and out enjoying the end of summer sunshine.

Love to all!

Diege · 07/09/2006 13:31

Hi everyone!! Sneaky one from work Feeling lots better today after a few early nights, and cold 'coming out' now ; I'm such a man when it comes to poorly-ness, which surely doesn't help!! Good to hear you're gradually getting back on track LONDONER, and that the remedies seem to be working. Know what you mean about throw-up coughs, quite the worst aren't they? I remember holding my hands over L's mouth, in a desperate act of denial RODEO: glad Bella is enjoying 'big(ger)' school , and hope Joe's visit goes well. Yes, go and fraud it like LONDONER suggested as a first-time mum of one at the local groups! Think I would just settle down with a bit of morning TV and biccies to 'readjust' if I were you . Are lime doritos still your thing? (or am I going mad??!!).
BROWNIE: good to hear from you, and thoughts with you for next week . Am cheered to hear you've done the trip from Warrington to Stratford many times, and am hoping dh's estimate on travel time might be out a bit! So is it Sunday 1st Oct or the following weekend we have planned?
Well, dh took L to the hossie for her latest ultasound scan (kidneys), and while there is a small amount of dilation around one of them, the sonographer's not too concerned, and we just wait for a follow-up with paed sometime soon . Glad it wasn't me that had to take her, as I get really anxious about scans etc, and always read far too much into them!! Just have to be careful really that if we ever suspect a urine infection, that we get L on antibiotics asap, to avoid any possible kidney scarring/damage, but apart from that, no real problems .
Off to IKEA tonight in an effort to smarten up the house to get it on the market!!
Oh and btw, have gone off 'Mirabel' and prefer 'Jemima'. Any better ladies???

babyboo1and2 · 07/09/2006 13:34

hi londoner,

i wasnt asking hv for advice, she was here doing her 9 month check up when she just casually asked if dd slept through to which i replied no and explained about feeding her to which she replied along the lines of no no no a 9 month old baby does not need feeding at night, if you continue she will wake up more frequently,

i have tried water instead of bf but dd screamed so much i gave up after one attempt - tbh i dont know how much longer i will bf as i can sense dd not drinking as much during daytime so i have decided i may as well enjoy it while i can

at what age are any of you thinking of giving up bf completely or are you going to let lo just give up when they want?

GarfieldsGirl · 07/09/2006 14:40

Hiya, just checking in before I get Owen from school! Sean is having fun with a Roses type tin (and has been for about 3 days now), who needs toys eh?!

BEKs, your post did make me laugh, and thank you (thats to everyone too), how's the loft going now?

Diege, I have to agree with Brownie. 2.5 hours from Warrington - Stratford sounds awfully long. Warrington - Portsmouth would only take me about 3.5 hrs with clear roads. Glad there's nothing to worry about with L's kidney scan.

babyboo - yes, definately go with what feels right for you. If you want to carry on bf at night, then do so, just lie to her next time! Like you say, make the most of it while you can. Owen weaned himself by 15mths (the last few months were only once or twice a week). I'm hoping Sean will be just as easy (but I have my doubts).

Londoner, not sure if its easy going, or just after an easy life! Don't think I could handle any kind of routine, rather just go with the flow! Its good that the children are all able to go to school.

Rodeo - wow! That is a big school that Bella's at! How did Joe like his school?

Hi to all you others! How did the little ones get on bob & cath?

Londoner · 07/09/2006 15:27

Hi Diege,

Great news about L's scan, what a relief for you all. lol about you and girl's names.... what is it they say, "new house, new baby"....? Has certainly followed true for us! Yes, love Jemima.
Babyboo at your hv, can't believe that! Not sure when we'll give up, am focussing on trying to feed for first 12 months and then we'll see... have not done that far before. Have you seen this website? I've found it so helpful and wish I'd found it b4 ahhhh gotta go!

Rodeo · 07/09/2006 20:03

Evening!
Hi Londoner, good to hear the children are getting much better, what is Shiatsu? (I'm thinking it's a type of dog but predicting I'm very wrong!) I'm pretty ignorant of alternative therapies which is unbelievable as it's in my blood (my mum practices aromatherapy and Reiki, one of my aunts is a acupuncturist, and another aunt is a yoga instructor!) I too am shocked by Babyboo's HV (Who is she?! Who is she?! etc...Yes, sorry I've done that before)
Diege, Are you suggesting I sit in watching This Morning eating Lime Doritos in the day??!! Love the name Jemima, was a big contender whilst pg with Joe and Jess, but my sister bagsied it, BUT.....then her friend had a little girl and used said name a few weeks after my sister told her if she had a baby girl she wold call her Jemima! Still with me?! So yes we love it but it's a sore point round here (In a way she stole it from the both of us!)
Well Joe had a great hour today at school and is looking forward to tomorrow (so far!) Dp is back now so better go, speak tomorrow (or later!) x

Londoner · 07/09/2006 20:42

Hi Rodeo, glad Joe enjoyed his time at school today, always such a relief isn't it! Lol, not Shih Tzu ...... Shiatsu , lol. It's the same sort of thing as Reiki, you're right... have you ever had Reiki? Cor, wish someone in my family did it, lucky you!
Right, gotta go, am skiving.

Rodeo · 07/09/2006 21:22

Thanks Londoner No I haven't had Reiki, dp did when he had sciatica and once he got over the initial 'Oh dear, this is Annie's mum!' thoughts, he said it seemed to help. I never like to ask though as I don't really have any ailments and don't want to put her out. Which is a bit silly really as I know she wouldn't mind, maybe I'll ask her Haha, know the skiving feeling well! You're getting good at those links BTW!

Londoner · 08/09/2006 09:31

Lol at your dh and Reiki MIL stage-fright Rodeo, but it would have been so great for you post-natally, would def have a session if it's poss it would do you the power of good. When you were feeling low recently in anticipation of all lo's going off to school, it's great for stuff like that, you don't have to have an ailment, it was originally devised as preventative medicine, for well-being, people had it on a regular basis as standard but also used in sickness/injury. hth.
Good night here-hooray!-but very wriggly/clingy coughing coldy baby this a.m - still at least she's getting it all up out of her system.

Beautiful day here - wow!

........... it's FRIDAY...

ChaCha · 08/09/2006 11:31

Hi girls,

Nice to see you Diege, Londoner, Rodeo, GG and everyone else. Hope everything is well with you are your LO's. I intend to try yet another proper catch up when inlaws arrive later today, did try yesterday but someone managed to switch off the PC while in midst read!!!

DS is currently ripping out the pages of the Yellow Pages - that should give me a few minutes typing time. He has started that standing on furniture thing and swinging from one thing to another often to end up with a banged head on wooden floor. I seem to keep repeating 'No..No..that's dirty. Yuk. Leave it' etc. am beginning to sound like realy grumpy old fart and not fun mummy.
How you all do it sometimes i do know know, yesterday was a real hard day for me when he only had one small nap and was up from 7.30am to 10pm (only to be woken by his dad on his return home). I have to admit parking his stroller in front of big cook, little cook just to get some time to make a bite to eat - can't take eyes off him for a sec! What do you all do with your little explorers at home? He is not content to sit with toys and play. Took him for long walk yesterday but ended up having to get DH to pick us up after i almost passed out in supermarket the shame. Felt like i wasn't wearing my glasses, actually had to check!!! Ohhhh...roll on February!

Thanks for listening, well DS is now climbing my chair pinching my leg trying to get a grip. We have his grandparents up today and then my mum for rest of week to help pack and rearrange house - we have to make a start now. Have a job in today for weekend so hopefully will get a start on that too.

Hope i've not gone on forever, but will catch up with you all when there's MEEeeee time, not that there ever is.

Love to all x
