I don't want to guess what happened to the boy, I just want that little boy back in a warm house, safe. Poor little mite, how frightening.

ChasingDaisy · 17/01/2014 16:20

I am finding that news story very hard to read/watch. The thought of that being O is terrifying. It also got me thinking about the strength of a mother's love. There really is nothing quite like it. I feel like O is quite literally, a part of me and that there is an incredible bond between us. I wonder if a father's love has the same intensity? Or if a mother is bound to feel more strongly towards the child because she grew him and gave birth to him.

Elizadoesdolittle · 17/01/2014 16:26

thechick I have a weird thing about closed doors, in that doors have to be closed Smile DD1 went through a phase of opening her door and I used to have to get up at night and close it. I shared with a friend on a hen weekend who couldn't sleep with the door closed and I couldn't sleep with it open. We just drank so much that we passed out!

YellowWellies · 17/01/2014 16:50

With an elderly cat most doors in our house have to be open or else there's a risk of trapping him in a room and him having an accident Confused !

TheDetective · 17/01/2014 17:00

We have to keep ours closed because of the cat and dog!!

TheDetective · 17/01/2014 17:01

Mostly the dog Hmm

Thechick · 17/01/2014 17:18

Its probably the cause of my high heating bills

Det I don't think I have enough pans to make 3 separate meals, lol!!
I batch cook and freeze H's stuff and the rest of us have the same. But ds1 doesn't like brown rice, so will cook that separately.
I really need to get organised and start cooking food that H can eat. I like my food quite seasoned and probably use a bit too much salt. Need to sort it.

Passmethecrisps · 17/01/2014 17:20

Doors here are mostly open thanks to ageing pussy.

That story is just heartbreaking. Like you chasing I find these things hard to handle nowadays.

I check on p when I go to bed. She rummages so much that I am frequently in rearranging her as she clatters her head off the head (or bottom if she is upside down) of the cot.

PurplePidjin · 17/01/2014 17:44

Chasing i think that some fathers' love is like that but they need more encouragement in the early days - babies are very much a mother's domain, while children can be equally parented much more easily. It shocked me in the early days how much was solely down to me, and how much R needed me - not one of us, me. Now he's bigger df and i can both pretty much do things equally, but there's a shocking amount of "only mummy will do" stuff. And that's with having df home, and interested and involved, for nearly all of the first year. Factor in that most dads miss 10-12 hours 5 days a week and it's not surprising that the bond grows slower.

YellowWellies · 17/01/2014 19:25

I've had a lovely day with the bear. He seems to be finally getting the concept of "no" Grin AKA Mummy is about to lose her shit I best stop doing that except when he reaaaaaally wants to ignore me Envy and is also following a few simple commands "come here", "give Mummy / Daddy a cuddle", "bring Mummy that book" "do you want this or that on your toast" etc. When he shot across the kitchen to give DH a cuddle, on request, when DH got in from work, DH welled up and said it had made his day Smile. He cuddles like those clip on koala toys - with his arms and legs. I love it! He also nods from the waist Grin . I'm finding this a lovely age. When he's not teething. Blush

ChasingDaisy · 17/01/2014 19:34

That's lovely YW Smile I am finding this a difficult age, but with some exceptionally lovely bits. O is also getting the hang of commands and will bring me items on request. He has also started getting baby wipes out of the packet and cleaning the floor with them Grin We have had some lovely giggling fits today which are just fab.

StormyIsles · 17/01/2014 19:42

I think the wee lost boy has hit a nerve here as it is sooo close to home. I must admit I am a neurotic checker. When we go to bed and whenever I get up in the night, but probably down to paranoia that she hasn't woken up. M also has a habit of getting stuck in awkward positions.

I am very jealous of all the meal planning. Sounds lovely. I can't wait until these exams are finished so I can reorganise my life!! I must admit though, I am very much looking forward to cooking this weekend. Indian takeaway from my fav place tonight though Grin

Took my step dad to pick m up from childminder with me. She was soooo excited to see him, shouting granddad as soon as she clocked him! I didn't get a look in..

YellowWellies · 17/01/2014 19:44

Chasing (O's one of the youngest isn't he?) I found last month veeeeerrrrrrrry tough - I think its a big leap but the next stage for us has been fab so I hope it's the same for you too. I think we've also officially gone from two naps to one so he's more settled into that pattern too. I dunno you get used to something and they shake it all up again! Little buggers Wink

StormyIsles · 17/01/2014 19:45

Oh and I had an utterly awful experience tonight. Dog owenership is sooo over rated.

A has been left on his own for 8 hrs today and yesterday. P was meant to come home and let him out but got stuck on the water and couldn't. Yesterday A bin raked and ate a nappy so today was refined to his cage. Said nappy reappeared with explosive diarrhoea all over his bed. He's getting a dog walker from Monday.... Angry

And inbetween dealing with it, a bunch of Jehovah's witnesses turned up. I told them my parents weren't in Blush

YellowWellies · 17/01/2014 19:47

Isles I'm thinking the SW meals sound awesome too. Kyz, Det are many feasibly able to be made dairy free? Do you have to use that weird chemically fry-lite stuff? I'm Shock about stuff like that where the ingredients sound like a chemical weapon....

YellowWellies · 17/01/2014 19:49

Isles what is it with dogs and shit? Betsy follows the bear like a bloodhound sniffing his ass when he's shat himself....

ChasingDaisy · 17/01/2014 19:50

That's reassuring YW. O is indeed one of the youngest. I guess with taking his first steps this week, we are certainly in the middle of a leap.

Lily311 · 17/01/2014 19:55

isles hahahahahahahahaha about your parents not being in. Made my day.

YellowWellies · 17/01/2014 20:02

Isles contemplating a curry after cleaning up dog diarrhoea makes you utterly hardcore BTW. Lily that made me laugh too!

I've got a glass of Wine and a Mars bar (my first since post MMR reflux hell) waiting downstairs - I'm vair excited!

Passmethecrisps · 17/01/2014 21:24

Good response isles!

I had a call from DH today on my way home. He had done a £100 shop at aldi but forgot his wallet. P was having a meltdown and he was stuck!

Thankfully aldi were vey helpful and keep his trolley out tee back while he drove home to get his wallet but he was in much better fettle than I would have been!!

Sophiathestormfairy · 17/01/2014 21:36

I am back in action. Sorry, life had to pause this week, back on it now.

Brilliant isles I would steal that but I don't know if it would get away with it.,

Hi 5 ers to mr Pass for keeping his cool.

Me and DH just walked to the local Chinese for dinner Am now soooo tired after a busy week and the walk and very happily snuggled in bed.

My knee is still very very raw and sore but not weeping anymore and slowly healing I think.

Kyz · 17/01/2014 21:56

Hey all,

Today a little better again, E hasn't needed calpol all day till bed time (he got a bit beside himself which is unusual so I calpol'd). He seems to be really fussy with food but I think it's best to give him the benefit of the doubt atm with him not being well. He didn't want sausage and bean hotpot, not even mushed up, so he had ravioli on toast instead :(

Aw flouncy but at least you know he can do it, hopefully he'll do it again soon and eventually make a habit of it :) That would be ace!

Gosh Gt 3 days is a while, hope it goes well! Also hope H is ok soon, does sound sore bless him

ooh awesome lily hope you have a fab time with your brother :)

That's alot of teeth pennie! Hope to see you again soon :)

Have found a SW Thai curry jj thanks :)

jims e seems to be quite fussy :( I'm trying not to be too upset by this, I am an eat 99% of everything kind of person, his dad not so much, but I had hoped he'd like a variety. Ah well. I am sure someone said something about phases, fussiness not always sticking and trying a food a fair few times (10)? before deciding they definitely do or don't like it. Who knows?!

Hiya sophia :) Hope everything with work goes ok, sounds quite positive doesn't it :) Sounds like you've been really busy!

ooh ditsy i've got the veg curry planned for the week after next :) Quorn spag bol is lovely also :) I like a massive range of foods and always try to plan something different. My basic rule for planning is to make the carby bit different, so never the same thing twice, so we'll have pasta/rice/chips/mash/boiled pots/noodles/couscous or whatever and i'll find my meals that way. Usually trying to have a different meat/take on things, so a curry, a stew/one pot type thing, a soup etc. Just to keep it different as I LOVE food Blush and like to satisfy my taste buds with new flavours all the time.

Really hoping you feel better soon zamboni

isles that little boy is playing on my mind too, really hope they find him safe and well :(

I don't 'check' on e often but he's got a video monitor so I guess I do, Iyswim?

I wouldn't want to wake him but do go in if I can't see him and he's always just at the bottom of the cot he's another who's door brushes hard on the carpet and he often wakes or stirs at least.

ooh det i want to try the diet coke chicken is it nice? I'm a pepsi max drinker too so would use that

hope she's ok fruit and you've reminded me i haven't had a risotto for ages! I must do one if I remember/even know how

yw e is very much into instruction following atm! He spends a large portion of each day bringing me books to read, and if he starts to get a bit whingy I give him something to do, like bring me a ball or a car or a teddy, or take this to the bin or put that in the wash basket. I also ask him where various body parts are, which he thinks is hilarious, he rushes over to poke my nose when asked! He loves to find his own hair and his own feet but hasn't yet worked out he has a nose! It's a lovely age I agree on the good days

gosh isles the dog stuff does not sound fun! Dog walker sounds like a plan though, bet neither incident was much fun to clear up!

yw I do actually think you could do SW with being non-dairy yes, you can have oatly i think as a healthy extra a, and as you still bf i think it's not as limited, neither of your healthy extra's would be. You don't have to use fry-lite but it definitely cuts down your syns. You can use oil but have to syn it. It'll be something like 1 syn for a teaspoon or a tablespoon or something. I don't really use oil as I like to use my syns for other thinngs CHOCOLATE!!!!

Pass bless your dh i'd have been a bit flustered to say the least!

glad your knee is getting better sophia and enjoy your chinese

Read about various takeaways tonight and would love one. I am starving, and could go and get some food if I wasn't being so lazy!

BigPigLittlePig · 17/01/2014 22:55

You lot made me literally lol with your dog chat, and wake F up. Was worth it though.

Off to bed. Night all xx

3days is exhausting. Starts Friday at 10am and ends Sunday at 10, but usually drags on with eating lunch so maybe free by 2pm Confused

It's how long the priest takes to read our bible/ book from cover to cover. They take it in turns, priest changes every two hours. Ppl/congregation come and go , sit and listen to prayers for a few minutes or hours. Also there is food all day long from 7am to 9pm.
We actually hold this prayer at this house one weekend every year in August. Cooking is a killer at this event and you basically have an open house (to ppl you know not randoms walking off the street) so ppl come and go, listen to the prayer and eat.
It's intense.
H enjoyed the open space of the temple. Hard keeping him entertained when we are meant to be quiet! But everyone ignores children's noise so not to bad. Ill put pics up on Sunday.
