gt oh my goodness! you are a superstar.

They found a body, so so sad.

Kyz · 18/01/2014 07:00

It's really sad lily I wonder what happened, the news says his mum is being questioned, I think? Poor little boy :(

Hope everyone had a good night last night.

gt I don't know how you do it, that sounds exhausting!

Morning all, btw. Meal planning for the week after next, need some lunch ideas still though.

Also, is my lo the only fussy one? Or am I perhaps allowing him to be fussy? He used to eat everything and now he turns his nose up at half of it until I make him something else. I did manage about a week of not making him something else but with him being poorly I don't feel I can do that without then worrying to fuck about it. I don't know if I expect too much of him. For example tea last night was sausage and bean hotpot. He doesn't seem to like sausages but then does eat them sometimes so I really don't know :/ anyway he wouldn't eat tea last night at all. He eats things like spag Bol, sweet n sour, lasagne, gammon egg and chips but won't eat Sunday dinner or anything vaguely resembling it, scrambled egg, anything fishy, most soups, couscous or rice unless it's with a sauce, he doesn't like it 'dry' even if it's got veg in or whatever. Oh and cheese, unless it's melted and still warm he won't eat it. I do give him a spoon and I do usually have something finger food ish too. Keep seeing people with babies eating far more and I've always offered him a big range so hoped he'd eat a big range. Sister (9 months) has been eating since 17 weeks and eats literally anything. I waited with e and he seems so fussy! Maybe I think he's fussy cos I eat like, everything? Bar tripe. I don't like tripe or cheap fish fingers. Or melon. But I'm sure that's it!

Anyway. Early morning bollocks, feel free to ignore! Best get on with my shopping list.

Sophiathestormfairy · 18/01/2014 07:41

Lunch ideas for home or work kyz sorry I am a bit behind. Soups are always good for home or work, I think a lot of us are soup fans and the new covent garden website has loads of great recipes. I make this bread to go with soup for the kids and visitors, (I try to keep away from bread with my soup when I am trying to loose a few lbs and have a bit of extra soup instead)

Wheaten Bread

Oven to about 180 c

8 oz Wholemeal flour
2 oz plain flour
2 oz brown sugar
Handful of oats
Tsp bicarbonate of soda
I egg
1/2 pint of buttermilk

Mix it all together and bung it in for 35-40 mins. Don't worry if it goes a bit wobbly on top mine and my SILs always does. Anyway is very lovely and the kids love it as a snack. You can also put seeds in is v nice and I thought I might try with apricots and walnuts more like a tea wheaten bread.

Sophiathestormfairy · 18/01/2014 08:03

In a loaf tin.

MsJupiterJones · 18/01/2014 08:15

Greeted this morning with a headbutt so hard I now have a massive purple lip. The joys of parenthood.

Re. food, I try to keep in mind the idea that's it's what they eat over the course of a week so if they have a few off days (as L did last week) they'll probably make up for it in true YW's J style. Kyz it sounds like E eats quite a lot, I have refused to let food be a battleground so even though it is annoying when L refuses something I've made or know he likes, I just give it a few tries and then leave it. Everyone says L is a good eater but he won't go anywhere near pasta and will always choose meat over veggies as well as a few other foibles, so I think they all have some preferences and funny ways. I offer a few bits of pasta at least once a week as I want him to get used to it eventually but expect them to end up on the floor in the bin.

Sophiathestormfairy · 18/01/2014 09:01

Oh. Or is it meal ideas for E?

Still soup and wheaten. Grin

Zamboni · 18/01/2014 09:13

Hello

gt sounds intense but hopefully you had a good time. Looking forward to pics!

So sad about that little boy. Poor wee soul.

Horrendous night here. S's cough is bad again, he's coughed himself into puking a dozen times in the last couple of nights. Will only sleep on me or sharing my pillow. It's just the two of us in a king sizes bed but he needs to be in my armpit or he's wailing. Wakes every hour or so to scream. He's dribbling like you wouldn't believe so I think if is just usual cough + teeth. Meanwhile I'm even worse Hmm - on the rare interludes of sleep I am having vivid, complicated, exhausting dreams that are interwoven and almost hallucinations they are so much. Throat worse after24 hours of antibiotics. DH has taken the DC to PIL again for the day. Bathroom being sorted today.

PR are you feeling any better? GL with your guests.

msjj ouchy. S has done that to me before - babies have surprisingly hard heads sometimes.

isles that's really funny Smile

YellowWellies · 18/01/2014 09:38

Really sad news about that wee boy. He was found in me and Isles neck of the woods. Not somewhere he could walk or the Forth bridge's cameras would have spotted him (and its a feck of a long way for a three year old). If he was found on the coast I wonder if his body would have drifted across the Forth - I wouldn't have thought so with the tides and flow of the estuary (Isle's P would have best knowledge of that given he works on the water) so it rather looks as though his body was dumped Sad Sad Sad Sad .

We had another sleep through. He's still eating and BF like a thing possessed. I'm going to make dairy free pizza today. Dairy free folks try violife fake cheese (its made from coconut) and tastes 99% like the real thing Shock !

Elizadoesdolittle · 18/01/2014 09:40

zamboni so sorry to hear about s and it doesn't sound like a barrel of laughs for you either Sad . Hope you get some rest today and the antibiotics actually start to do something positive soon.

kyz This is quite a tough age for some babies in their weaning journey. They've learnt thaat they have control of what they can eat so babies who previously used to eat anything and everything will turn there noses up to certain foods or just not eat something if they don't fancy it. I know its hard but try not to worry or fuss. Take jjs advice. Just offer something, if he doesnt eat it then just leave it. Running to the kitchen and replacing with various other offerings will teach him that if he doesn't eat something mummy will get him something else. Fine at this age but you don't want him growing up demanding that. It really doesn't matter if he doesn't eat for a couple of meals. He will probably do this anyway whether you try him with other stuff or not. I have learnt the hard way that I just need to chill out about how much E eats. She eats miniscule amounts compared to most of the babies on here, but she is enjoying her food and seems to eat enough to keep her going. I just have to trust in her (and try and sneakily shove things in her without her realising). Your E is doing wonderfully.

How sad re the little boy. Haven't seen news yet. Will check it out now.

ditsygal · 18/01/2014 09:58

Kyz I struggle with getting F to eat more then a few meals too. He loves pasta or rice with tomato sauces, things like peas and sweetcorn, and sometimes bread rolls or wholemeal bread. He will also eat hot cross buns when we have the Dairy and Soy free ones from waitrose. He will eat almost any fruit and would live on it if he could and will eat things like the organix crisps, rice crackers etc. But he really isnt interested in meat or fish, lots of veg, most cereals apart from shreddies or cheerio's, and potato is a complete no in any form at the moment (even though when he first weaned potato was the only thing he liked!)
Its increasingly hard to find proper meals he will like and I feel I feed him the same things each day and just offering new things on the side (that he usually ignores!) I am definitely guilty of pandering to his wants though, as I am scared if I let him go hungry his sleep will be even worse then it is - and he already doesn't eat very much at each meal considering he's on the 98th centile - I don't know how me manages that!

Zamboni · 18/01/2014 10:40

Weaning chat is interesting. I am definitely guilty of pandering to the DC's choices fish fingers and beans again, anyone? but I only make one of any meal. They tend to eat best either at nursery, where they are given a load of stuff they won't eat here, or when we all eat together. At nursery I think it is the herd mentality. They both eat sandwiches, tuna, wraps, cheese - all things they refuse for us. The range in volume is astonishing - sometimes they will Hoover everything in sight, sometimes it's just a few mouthfuls. DD is still like this at very nearly 3. I try not to get too concerned on those occasions, just keep offering usual meals at mealtimes and they eat more when they want.

YW I really hope that diary free pizza is tasty.

Just so lucky I never have to think about what E and S can eat. Sorry, I don't mean that gloat-ily at all - I am in AWE of you guys who have foods to avoid and how well you manage it!

MsJupiterJones · 18/01/2014 11:24

Thanks for that recipe, Sophia. I had noticed you mention wheaten bread a few times and meant to ask. Do you use bread flour or just regular?

The other thing I read about toddler fussiness was that evolution has caused them to be suspicious at this age when they are gaining independence and making choices - to prevent them eating any old berries or grubs they find! doesn't stop L's determination to eat leaves So I do think the best thing is to keep offering a variety regularly and letting them see you eating those things but not making a big deal of it.

It is truly awful about that little boy. I hope his twin is being looked after well. Something very odd about it all from the start but I'm sure they'll get to the truth - even though it won't change the tragic outcome.

Sophiathestormfairy · 18/01/2014 11:34

I just use regular flour for wheaten. V easy.

zamboni big hugs! sound v rough. Hope you get some rest today despite the bathroom being done. Xx

yw v sad news anyway but must be worse if on your doorstep. DS1 is 3 and the whole thing is unbearable to think about.

PurplePidjin · 18/01/2014 11:42

What MsJJ said - particularly evident among my rl blw friends - plus the control thing. R still needs his spoon foods quite wet (eg he needs sauce on pasta or couscous) and rejects finger food when teething apart from biscuits, cheerios and honey sandwiches so the only adaptation i make is to change texture, not the actual meal. If he eats a good amount (couple of oz) then i give him pudding.

Stupid question alert: tapioca is made from cassava, which is iirc a root. Does that mean tapioca pudding is a portion of veg? R loves it, just tapioca and milk in the slow cooker with a dab of honey when i serve it. Coconut milk is a good substitute for the dfers :)

YellowWellies · 18/01/2014 12:35

Replacement video monitor has just been delivered (smack bang in the middle of his nap as per usual - delivery drivers have an unerring knack for nap time!) I hastily put a snoozing bear (who'd nodded off on me) on the sofa under his blanket and bustled to the door bell, yelling at the dog as I went - and he's still asleep on the sofa Shock . A nap not on me or in the buggy or car seat is unprecedented! Progress! Think I'm going to try him in the cot for tomorrow's nap Smile .

Sophiathestormfairy · 18/01/2014 12:49

I think youRe right pp, cassava chips are particularly nice.

I am soooooooop tired. Can I just go and have a hot bath?

Thechick · 18/01/2014 12:50

Our babies are all so different aren't they. H hasn't refused anything yet. He would make funny faces, like he isn't enjoying it but will still eat. I don't really give him that much meat, just lots of fruit and veg and fish, he loves potatoes, especially sweet potatoes and pasta and brown rice. I'm lucky I guess. The boy can't walk or talk but can grow teeth and eat food well. I can completely relate to the control thing. With ds1 he used to eat everything and then realised that he had a choice and stopped eating everything. He was fussy, but would still eat certain fruits and veg and fish so it wasn't too bad.

Oh and congrats on first steps Chasing. The non walkers group in becoming smaller and smaller.

Let me know if you guys have had the conversation about this already recently and I'll look back. But how much milk and how many bottles do your babies drink. H has 2 one in the morning and one at night of about 7oz each. He does have yoghurt and cheese during the day too. Is that in line with you all?

Thechick · 18/01/2014 12:52

Sophia don't talk to me about cassava chips. I finished 2 bags of lime and chilli cassava chips over the past 2 weekend and I'm pretty sure thats helped with the 6lbs that won't go away.

Has anyone heard from Donna recently. Isn't she due soon??

Thechick · 18/01/2014 12:53

Not Lime, lemon!!

Sophiathestormfairy · 18/01/2014 13:57

And ou est pr?

PetiteRaleuse · 18/01/2014 14:10

I'm here. Ill, guests, following fred-ish but not got much to say x

YellowWellies · 18/01/2014 14:10

Woo did I miss that Chasing is O walking? I thought he was walking with a walker? I count first steps as without a walker (am I odd in that? Confused )

YellowWellies · 18/01/2014 14:11

PR has guests I think?

Sophiathestormfairy · 18/01/2014 14:51

Long as all ok.

Kyz · 18/01/2014 15:40

Lunch ideas for home sophia, I need to adapt them to go with the SW plan, your bread sounds gorgeous, I think i'd have to syn it but I wouldn't mind doing so if it's worth the syns (and sounds like it would be!)

Thanks for all of the tips and reassurances re: food, I think I just need to chill out a bit and keep offering things. I accept he won't necessarily like everything, but he seems so picky sometimes! Though like some of you have said it might well be that he doesn't fancy something on a particular day and obviously just can't tell me etc so isn't fussed with what I give him.

gosh zamboni that sounds awful :( I hope you get plenty of rest today bless you :(

Yw i'll tell mum about that cheese for my sis cos she's dairy free and the cheese mum has for her is rank!

ditsy sounds like my E is alot like your F with the eating thing, he adores fruit especially oranges! I really shouldn't moan about his eating I guess because he can eat everything as far as I know, no allergies or anything, just fussiness

pp I think e must just want his spoonfed stuff to be quite wet too, he does eat rice and couscous but really won't have them on their own

sounds like good progress with naps yw :)

Milk chick E has an 8oz bottle at night and has usually 4oz min or 8oz max, and he has 4oz in the morning plus whatever is in his breakfast. Night time it's a bottle and during the day he uses a sippy cup. He can vaguely drink from a cup but soaks himself so I tend to go for the sippy cup Blush
