June 2013 (2) - attempting to get into a routine!

New thread for us ladies. :-)

Pinkapples - Sephys skin was so bad all over I was sure it was eczema and we've been religiously putting oilatum on her every nappy change and also in her bath with prescribed hydrocortisone in her creases twice a day and its really starting to clear up now and they're saying it was just 'baby rash'.

Her 7 straight hours at night was great but I've really paid for it today! She didn't sleep even one minute from when she woke up until 4. It makes me feel so sad for the life my DD1 used to have.

My parents are offering to take us all to chessington world of adventures tomorrow while DH is at work...been a complete recluse lately so trying to work up the bravery to go, DD1 is only 2 but she completely loves it there are deserves a treat, but I have visions of Sephy screaming all day long

And Hawkmoth, that sounds blissfull! I pine for the days I used to lay in bed with DD1 with a DVD on

I'm impressed with all these babies sleeping through! Dd went 6 hours between feeds today but unfortunately it was this morning and not during the night!

Curious I'm also feeling sad for the life DS used to have Enjoy chessington tomrw. I'm sure it'll be fine! I'm Aldo a recluse at the moment. Hoping being able to drive from next week will make that better.

Sorry you're having a crazy week Pinkbear. Only a few days left now thankfully!

Hi to everyone else...I'm on my phone so can't go back to see who else I'm speaking to!

Oooh Dontmind i think i get to be one of those smug mothers as Lily slept from 8pm to 3am. Didnt realise that counted as sleeping through.

Of course cant be too smug as i was out for coffee yesterday when a lady came up to me and said 'Excuse me but your baby has just been sick all down your back'. This was made worse by my realisation that i'd forgotten the change bag. She then went and did a giant poo which she had to sit in until we got home. I was very crafty though and passed her to DH and didnt say a word about the lovely surprise he was going to find in her nappy .

Love the craftiness sunny I would have done the same

Apparently last night Theiah wanted me to be one of those mothers too she had a bath and bottle at 7 then slept till 10 then had a bottle and nappy change and slept from 10.22pm until 5.47am
A one off no doubt but made me feel better

nothing on the sleep scale some of you get but last night was 11, 2, 4 and 7.30 and no poonami's

No long stretches here either, I did actually manage to get her to sleep by 8 (which was a first) and then she woke at 11, 2:30 & 5.00 for a feed and she took ages to settle at 2:30!!

I'm still trying to get Violet to go more than 2 hours between feeds! If I can get her to sleep as she starts to get cranky during the day we can get to 3 hours but other wise it's not always working.

We went out yesterday and were having lunch in a cafe and I was feeding Violet, there was an old couple on the next table who were cooing over her, and when she finished feeding, as DP had managed to eat his food, I passed her to him to wind so I could get on with mine. She did the loudest burp ever the old couple roared with laughter and were over the moon.... A couple on the table the other side looked less than impressed!

DP at work again today, distracting the girls on the wii until a decent hour as they want to go outside to play, and aren't the quietest! Might also do a picnic lunch somewhere, shall see how the morning goes!

Hope all of those going out and about today have lovely days, enjoy and remember, someone back along on here said it, even if baby is screaming its only a few seconds others are passing you and therefore hearing it. And the little ones always have a knack of making it sound so much worse. Have a great day.

Very good advice there Pinkbear- I hadn't really thought of it like that. I suppose its only you stood there the whole time and aware of how long the screaming's going on for- others just get a feeling view of it!

Those using formula- what are you doing for out and about feeds? Are you using ready made or taking a made up feed with you and storing it in a certain way?

There's some mighty impressive sleeping going on here! Enjoy and well done for having magical babies!

That's a good point re the screaming / passers by. Hadn't thought of it like that!

The screaming carried on after the poonami, but she still had awful, violent farting. Once the comfort milk has worked through the system it should ease, though I'm hoping the poo has helped too.

She's been farting in her sleep without pain, which is promising.

She also slept 23.15-3.45, which is great :-) Once she feels better it should improve more.

It's good to see a lot of others doing the same.

AmI, we have a bottle bag to keep bottles cool and and ace Tommy Tippee flask which we use to heat the bottle. Or we use a carton if it is a longer day out.

Must remember it myself sometimes! Still can get flustered and flap a bit. But it stays at the back of my mind.

Of to see the penguins today....buses, busy town centre, buggy, packed lunch, etc etc, bound to forget something! Suppose as long as I come back with the same children I set out with that's something!!

Aml we fresh boil water and put it in the bottles then put the powdered formula in one of those containers to add to the bottle (don't like the idea of formula sitting in a bag till we need it) were lucky she drinks it hot or warm or room temp so no need to heat if out but if we are somewhere where we can get hot water to heat it we do

Yep, noone realises that "sleeping through" is only 6 hours in a go. Really puts it into persective doesn't it?

DH got ratted last night at a colleague's leaving drinks. As we are co-sleeping with DD, I made him sleep on an airbed rather than in our bed last night (well, he could have had the sofa) - I'm debating making this a regular arrangement, I rather like having the whole bed for just me and the girl...

Has anyone else's baby eaten less / slept more recently?

Amy refused most of her last feed, and cried a lot. She's been asleep ever since.

She seemed ok in herself, apart from the crying, earlier, and was babbling at me while I was changing her and smiling at me.

Should I be worried or see how it goes? Just conscious it's the weekend tomorrow so I can't get advice easily.

I think she's probably really tired from all the screaming over the last couple of days, but she hasn't refused food like that until now.

MrsB - DD has also been a little off her food and sleepy, I've put that down to her jabs yesterday - and the weather here is very muggy. She's basically slept all morning, not looking forward to this evening...

Are you FFing? If so, I'd just keep offering her little top ups. If BFing, it could be she's getting more efficent so she's taking less time to get the milk out IYSWIM

Argh! I'm just spending my life waiting for the next antiques programme on telly. 28 minutes to Secret Dealers. Baby again with face next to boob, also her arm is casually draped over it in a somewhat proprietary manner.

Operation Get Lily to Sleep in her Cot in the Daytime is off the starting blocks. Managed 20 mins of sleeping this morning followed by 20 mins of chatting to herself. This afternoon wasn't quite so successful when we managed 15 mins before full meltdown occurred. The articles I've read seem to suggest that if I just stick at it she should spend longer and longer napping each time.

Has anyone else who have had difficulties with daytime sleep had any success? There seems to be 2 schools of thought - one that I should persevere and the other that she'll nap in her cot when she's good and ready.

Mrsbri are you around the 6 week mark? Everything went a bit funny on us around that time for feeding and sleeping. Perhaps that's it?

Mrsbri E has seemingly dropped one of her morning feeds in favour of sleep for the last two days but then has fed more frequently than usual in the late afternoon/ early evening. Maybe she'll do that?

I would probably monitor and get her to out of hours if you are worried over the weekend.

Im sure its just a combination of the new milk/ hot weather/ relief after her poo etc.

Amy's had a full feed now. It seems that she's perked up :-)

The new formula has to be made up as you need it, so we have a flask of hot water and a chilled one in the fridge to do that quickly.

And yes, we're 7 weeks on Sunday, Sunny. Well done re the cot. We will be doing that too once we've got back into the nights which will resume when the night time screaming stops. Fingers crossed that's soon after yesterday's poo.

Hawk, that's not good, is it? Amazing how standards drop when you have a new baby. :-/

mrsbri glad Amy has picked up. always a worry if food isn't being accepted.

still need to buy a mattress for our cot! her crib and Moses basket have seen us through so far. her cot at the moment has a selection of random
baby items in. And the chair in her room has been claimed by the cat!!

Arrhghhh...back to evening screaming :-(

I'm with you on the early evening crankiness MrsBri. Ours is sleep related though. Being a piglet the only way to calm her is feed her, wait for her to puke most of it back up and wait for her to scream again. Hilarious.
