I feel a little bit bad about starting this thread just now as there have been heartbreaking stories on mumsnet over the past couple of days. Ladies our thoughts are with you.

This antenatal club is particularly special, as after a long difficult nine months for all of us we are now the lucky ones who get to hold our beautiful little babies. There are lots of challenges ahead for us, of course. but hopefully we can all continue to offer support , advice and friendship during the more happy times

diddle- yeah eden had tonguetie and it was preventing him latching on the breast properly so he fed little and often and never emptyed breast properly therefore giving me blocked ducts and painful golf balls under my pits. my doctor said to do nothing until he is 1 and to give up breast feeding but my midwife and others were more supportive and i persued the tonguetie snip procedure privatly although in the end after to talking to a really nice paeditrician he offered to do it for free in his spare time, it took 5 minutes and eden only really cryed for a second or 2. now he is feeding better although not perfectly. i think i have to teach him to latch better and am seeing a BF councillor next week, but on the whole things are better after it as my "golf balls" are gone
i would recommend getting joshuas tongue tie snipped too as it might affect speech etc but if the procedure is done after 3 months they have to have a general anesthtic and its more complicated.

cori- yeah when do babies laugh? i don't know when they are suppose to do stuff, i have completely forgotton. do you know when they roll over, i don't want to turn my back for a second and have him fall off his changing station lol

petunia · 16/07/2006 08:27

Not sure when babies laugh, Emily's 11weeks and doing plenty of smiles at the moment. DD2 was 4mths exactly when she rolled over.

cori · 17/07/2006 22:48

Nathaniel rolled over today, he is not even 10 weeks yet. Am and at the same time. Cant leave him on the couch or the bed etc any more. As if life wasnt stressful enough.

very quiet on here, all us busy mummies. I can't believe how little time i have to do anything. Its crazy.

Josh is sleeping, not sure how long for. better make the most of it, got plenty to do, should be taking it easy really, but the house is a tip.
I'm just being drawn to the polish and washing machine oops.

Slink - How you getting on mate?

petunia · 21/07/2006 19:53

Sorry diddle, know I should be posting and feel guilty that I'm not! Been really busy recently. Had DD1s birthday 2 weeks ago and my Mum's 60th last Wednesday. She's having a BBQ party tomorrow so I've made a big birthday cake! Hope weather is going to be good.

Emily's now 12 weeks old. Almost rolling over but not quite and we're getting lots of gurgles and smiles. Still breastfeeding her and she usually wakes 1 or 2x a night for a feed. It's quite nice to have DD1&2 off school at the moment. Em and I have a little sleep in the afternoons when I'd normally be picking them up.
How's everyone coping with the hot weather? Em hates it. We've been dressing her in her nappy at night and going out in the garden in the evenings so that she can cool down. Also been keeping DD1&2 in during the day until the sun has gone over enough to give some shade in the back garden. Such a shame to keep them in when the weather's so nice but it's just so hot!

Hope everyone and their little ones are well. I'm off to finish icing my Mum's birthday cake!

slinkstah · 23/07/2006 16:15

hiya all
i agree diddle i get zero time to myself atm,, even a bath consists of me rushing to wash as eden screams! i am finding myself using the time he sleeps to sort things out instead of resting too!
its too hot for baby, we sit in front of a fan all day- i don't have a nice shadey garden, only a small sunny balcony, so i only go out to do the school run. i could do with the heat to calm down slightly i can't belive it ws 37 the other day! i don't mind when its 37 on holiday as i am usually by a pool!

eden has milk spots/ heat rash all over his face and head, looks awful bless him. he is also losing his lovely hair. his eyes are still blue does anyone know when they are suppose to change by? i really thought they would be brown as dp is brown eyed but i am blue eyed.

midwife asked what i was using as contraception before she discharged me the other day- i told her i have not done the deed just yet and she was shocked!!! is it that weird? its only been 4 weeks and my perinim is still painful (small 2nd degree tear) and i am still bleeding slightly and i am blumin exhausted and sex is the last thing on my mind!

i am still BF although as soon as i think its going well i get blocked ducts and red sore patches. i have borrowed a pump though so maybe that will help next time that happens.

slinkstah · 23/07/2006 16:20

diddle just read june postnatal and wanted to tell ya my midwife told me babies are more sick in the heat.
eden has been throwing up loads more the last 2 weeks since it became really hot too.

cori · 25/07/2006 22:20

Nathaniel is a 11 weeks old, and is settling down a bit now. Is content for longer and longer and not so much screaming.

Nat also had that horrible baby acne, needless to say he didnt have many photos taken at that time. It disapears at around 6 weeks.
I think there eyes can change at anytime. My DS who is four eyes seem to be changing from brown to green. Nats eyes are still non descript.

Diddle , how is the recovery? When do you go back to childminding.?

OP posts:
diddle · 26/07/2006 15:26

Slink - thanks for letting me know about the throwing up, i thought it was the heat. I also have no inclination to do the deed, just yet, I am exhausted.

Cori - recovery is going ok, i suspect I may be overdoing it a bit, now the pain is wearing off, i am doing more and more which is ok, but i dont seem to be resting at all anymore. I must try and put my feet up more. I am going back to childminding on the 7th Aug, but only for 4 wks then I am giving up to be a stay at home mom. I had great ambition to carry on with my job before Josh appeared, but now i just want to be a mom and make the most of his early years. so I can't wait to finish work for good, and start the hardest and most rewarding job in the world.

slinkstah · 27/07/2006 11:00

diddle - fantastic news about giving up childminding, i think being a sahm is the best thing to do whilst babies are young i bet you can't wait. i am dreading going back to uni myself i really don't want the stress of assignment deadlines, staying up late to get them finished and having to juggle eden and uni seems like it may well be a nightmare. i am thinking i might put it off untill february.

cori thats fab about nathaniel being more content. we should do a meetup soon if ya like?
what are the nights like at 11 weeks? im just wondering when i might get longer than 2 hours at a time.

i am thinking about going on holiday, what does everyone think? am i mad considering it when he's so young? its so hot here anyway i may as well be in spain by a pool.

petunia · 27/07/2006 21:07

Evening all,
Diddle- so pleased that you are going to give up work and be with Josh. I went back to nannying when DD1 was 10wks old and regretted going back so soon. With DD2, I could have stayed at home forever but only did 3 afternoon a week and now with DD3, I love being at home with all of them (even nicer now that DD1 is on hol from school!)

Emily's now 13wks and weighs 12lbs 11 ( what's in that breastmilk!) I said to the health visitors yesterday that DDs1&2 had to start baby rice by the time they got to this age because they stopped putting on weight. Emily had her 2nd lot of jabs yesterday. She's trying to pull her head up now and we're getting lots of smiles. Doesn't it just make your heart melt when they smile?

I'm off up to Yorkshire and Manchester for a few days from Saturday, so be back next Thursday.

cori · 27/07/2006 21:28

I think that's cool too Diddle. Was thinking the other day that no matter what it is you do for a living, if your not doing it someone else will take your place. But no one can take the place of being a mummy to your child. Only you can do that, and that's makes it a pretty special job .
Slink am also thinking about a holiday, am trying to sort out Nathaniels passport so would like to go soon. Meet up soon would be good. We could go bring the older children and meet in the Princess Di park in Kensington gardens.
The nights are pretty good actually, but remember i am mix feeding so that might make a difference. He either wakes up at around 3.00am or 6.00am. If he wakes up at 6am i bring me into bed with latch him on and there he stays until we both feel like getting up. The last two mornings it has been around 9.00am.

Just popping in to say HI! and glad to see you are settling in with your new babies.

Its great to see there is light at the end.

Take Care xxx

HellKat · 30/07/2006 08:38

Wahoooo I'm on a post natal thread
Well katie is now coming up for 5 days old (where has the time gone?) & is doing better than we could ever imagine. Already even though technically she's just 33weeks gestation, is trying to suckle on my breast (gives it a bloomin good go lol). I'm producing enough milk to feed the entire East Midlands (around 6/700mls in24hrs). I swear this is only because I've got another baby in scbu. It was exactly the same with ds2. With ds1 I could'nt even squeeze out a drop. My poor puppies ar now 42d! huge compared to the 34b I was previously lol.
It looks like she should be out of the incubator today & into a cot. Once she's feeding 100% either from a bottle or my breast she can come home . Can't wait!!!

Well girls we finally did it!!!!!!!!!!! Feels amazing i can tell you.
Hope you're all well.

cori · 01/08/2006 19:57

Congratulations Hellkat.
33 weeks, oh she must be very wee. How long will she stay SCBU?

slinkstah · 04/08/2006 10:58

hiya all
congrats HK for being in postnatal land, this thread is still a bit quiet though

i think we all need to get a bit better at one handed typing.

wills, pet, cori, diddle how are you doing?

Eden is 6 weeks where has the time gone? i have started to think about going back to uni as forms need to be filled in if i am to resume studys in october. i am freaked at the thought of leaving him. maybe i will feel differntly in oct when he is older.
Also wanted to ask your advice, do nurserys take babys for just a few hours a day? As i will be going back part time i will only need childcare for 3 hours a week.

HellKat · 04/08/2006 17:43

Hiya all.
Slink- I'm sure nursery's do part time but also have you checked out your uni? My old one had a creche there, free of charge, but you had to book a place early. Great thing is he'd be on campus with you.

Katie's now 10days old & eating for England. Hopefully she'll be home in the next few days, just waiting to get the feeding tube out. Can't believe how alert she is. She actually turns to face you if you call her name & knows to scowl at the nurses lol

Love & hugs to you all xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

petunia · 05/08/2006 16:30

Afternoon all,
Here to practise my 1 handed typing!
Come back from a few days away in Halifax and Manchester (I choose all the exciting holiday places, don't I?!) Had great time, packed loads in but weather could have been better. Had a slight scare with Em while we were away, I was changing her nappy Tuesday evening, and noticed blood in her nappy. Not a lot, just a tiny amount. There's been nothing since and she was OK in herself at the time. But it scared me and I really thought we'd have to find a Dr.
Still breastfeeding and Em's showing no sign of wanting solids yet (DDs1&2 both had started solids by 13wks because they stopped gaining weight).
Hope everyone else is well.

ladybump · 06/08/2006 11:12

this is such a lovely thread. am in middle of particularly tricky miscarriage and i'm so scared of what the future holds. This was my first, much wanted pregnancy and I really hope it's not the start of a long struggle for children.
This thread has lifted my heart and makes me want to cry again (happy tears). I can only pray that I'm as lucky as you lot with your precious bundles.. Give them each a kiss from me.

petunia · 06/08/2006 11:18

Oh ladybump, I'm so for you.
When you feel ready, you might like to try the TTC after miscarriage, (think it's in the conception section). They gave a lot of support last year after my m/c.
Really hope things work out for you and you end up here very soon.
Thinking of you lots.

SnowBoo · 06/08/2006 20:39

Well at last i have made it! Baby Austin was born on Wed, two days early weighing 8lb 11oz. He a real cutie and such a good boy. Ds is totally in love with him (thank goodness!) as is everyone who sees him!

Will have a read thru when i have a few more mins.

Hope all are well.

Snow x

SnowBoo · 06/08/2006 20:42

HK thats super news. My niece was born at 31 weeks and is now 18months old. She a real terror but we adore her!

Big hug to Katie

diddle · 08/08/2006 12:02

Oh Hellkat - I am so thrilled for you, after all thsi time we finally have our babies. Mega Congratulations to you on the birth of baby Katie.

Its my second day at work today, i've got to do 4 weeks before i can give up. It horrible, i just want my house back to normal. Its lovely to see the kids, but i started work at 6.50am and won't finish until 5.15pm.

Josh is doing very well at the moment, started him in his own room this week, he loved it, I got all emotional though, hated not being unable to see him and check on him without moving out of bed. We do have a baby monitor, but the only problem with those is that you can hear when your babies awake, but if its quiet on there you don;t know whats happening.

Slink - you're not mad for planning a holiday, i would imagine its easier when they're younger, we're going away in december when josh is 6 months which will be a good age, and DH and I are going away on a work trip (his work) in October and leaving Josh with my mom, its a no kids allowed holiday and I am dreading leaving him.
My mom has suggested leaving him with her overnight before we go, and the thought scared the hell out of me!!!

Yes nurseries do take children for a few hours, some may charge for a full day, others may do half day sessions. You may be better with a childminder for flexibility. Make sure you find someone you all feel comfortable with. If i was closer slink i'd have him for you.

Ladybump - your message brought tears to my eyes. I can remember being in the same position as you, losing my first much longed for baby a year and a half ago, and i am so thrilled and blessed now to have our little boy. I hope you are doing ok and i'm going to come and find you on the miscarriage thread, if you're there.

Snowboo - woohoo congrats to you, well done.

petunia · 16/08/2006 12:31

Been a while since anyone posted. Are we all busy with our babies?

diddle · 16/08/2006 15:29

yep!!!

I don't know where the hours are going, Josh is feeding every 3 hours roughly and the time in between those hours is just gone in a flash. Hope everyone is doing well.

Hellkat - Hows life with Katie, is she home now??? was it yesterday? big hugs to you all

Hows everyone else doing??
