VQ 40% of CMPI babies react to soy - so there are pretty good odds its that I'm afraid Sad

We're off weaning for a couple of weeks, even with one tiny cube of benign parsnip he had dreadful sleep and tummy ache. I could hear it gurgling. He woke four times! I forget adjusted he is only five months. So I'm ahead of the game with a freezer full of purée and will give his wee tum a break then start again. Poor little soul loves his food (and goes nuts when we eat) it just doesn't love him. Dietician (paediatric specialist) said no worries if we leave it as late as 9 months - so Kyz ignore your sister's daft comment about babies not learning to swallow if not eating solids by a certain date.

I got him to nap not on me!!! In the pushchair in the house after a walk. This could be the future. I need to wake him now.

OK I think I couldn't do formula after reading the recent chat - it sounds like a chemistry PhD is needed. My disorganisation / slatternliness would result in a lot of tummy bugs. Blush Blush Blush Blush Blush

Sophiathesnowfairy · 22/04/2013 18:14

bp we have that too. I use Aveeno or aloe gelly to sooth with vaseline on top as a barrier. Seems to really help.

Until I forget.

MsJupiterJones · 22/04/2013 18:59

Yep VQ dairy & soy allergy likely linked.

I have also been guilty of refresh, refresh especially this aft when I went to meet my mums group and was the only one who turned up for the first hr

Talking of waiting for messages, please may I have a mini whinge and say WHY WON'T MY WORK TELL ME IF THEY ARE ACCEPTING MY FLEXIBLE WORK REQUEST PROPOSAL? Sorry. Just... I'm meant to be going back in a month! Really want to know what I'm doing. They have till next week to respond but said they'd try to do it sooner as it has been dragging on, so I've been glued to my phone. Arggghhh.

fruitpastilles · 22/04/2013 19:03

Haha chasing and bp that's what I was doing all afternoon aswell, can't believe there was 2 hours where no-one posted.

jj I hate waiting for things like that too. Speaking of which I really should tell work that I'm not going back, although I'm not due back till October anyway so I can leave it a little longer. Dreading telling them!

Passmethecrisps · 22/04/2013 19:09

Doh. Why don't they say that the temp is vital due to nutrients? My tin says nothing about that. Ok. I will be a good girl and make them properly from now on like DH tells me to

That sounds so frustrating JJ. Why don't they just get on with it?

Last session of baby massage today. Sad to lose a Monday activity but it wasn't my favourite thing. Nice lady and interesting stuff but just a slightly funny crowd.

BigPigLittlePig · 22/04/2013 19:09

Tomorrow I shall be leaving the house, we have baby group and possibly a trip to the vet

ChasingDaisy · 22/04/2013 19:16

I have no plans tomorrow. Or Wednesday. Thursdays plan consists of going to Morrisons to buy veg to puree.

My life is so exciting it scares me.

BigPigLittlePig · 22/04/2013 19:21

I deliberately won't be returning our library books tomorrow, just so I have something to do on Thursday. Rock. And. Roll.

YellowWellies · 22/04/2013 19:22

I'm trying to leave the house every day - today's indoor activity was purée making - then a visit to my sister. Tomo after sticking a wash on, we're off to our new local baby group to try to make some friends in our new town then off to see my sister and MMs mummy and to old HV to get the bear weighed. I'm trying to get out every day for sanity. But I still have soooooo much unpacking to do. Wednesday I'm waiting in for plus net engineer to connect broadband (I hope) so likely to go a bit mad Confused Confused Confused Confused Confused I WILL do some unpacking that day and sit on MN

YellowWellies · 22/04/2013 19:23

I'm glad I'm not the only one with small challenges!!!! / exciting whirlwind of activity Blush Grin

fruitpastilles · 22/04/2013 19:23

Me and you tomorrow then chasing I have no plans either. Going to Jo jingles baby group on weds though, score!

BigPigLittlePig · 22/04/2013 19:25

I thought I'd finally unpacked all our boxes. Then I found 2 more Angry. They are unpacked - it's only taken 6 months haha - and with all this time on my hands!? What have I been doing?! MN and human milk machine

ChasingDaisy · 22/04/2013 19:34

I did manage to leave the house 4 out of 5 days last week and O went out 6 of the last 7 days. Think he needs a few days quiet time to recover from feeling poorly. Pig O had his jabs on Friday, I think I remember you saying that F had hers on Thursday so am hoping a good night sleep tonight will help.

I think I need to find some new activities for me and O. Am off to a new baby group on Friday with my next door neighbour so that's a start.

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 22/04/2013 19:45

Good day had by DS at nursery. He slept well, ate enough and heartfelt apology from his lovely key Carer. So all settling down well. DH and I had a grown ups day. We're off on a super-classy Butlins mini-break tomorrow. Booked before DS was born because I thought it would be nice for us to spend some time together before my return to work. I overlooked the massive faff it is, travelling with 2 titchy people. With a car that doesn't fit the double buggy. We'll shove it all in somehow, and enjoy DD's enjoyment and no washing up for a few days.

I also make formula wrong. Always use boiling water. Oops.

Catbag · 22/04/2013 19:54

stunt Am I too late the claim the stretch mark cream? I tried the c-section gel they did and was impressed with the results. After 6 children my stretch marks are something to behold!

Sorry to hear about mass-pinnings to the sofa (unless you are glad of the opportunity to sit!) and sore eyes. Also crappy nights. As S has regressed where sleeping is concerned, I sympathise. R too, a bit.

We have rolling now finally. R is like a hippo heaving herself onto her front Grin. S is more like a porpoise, flipping about :) R is also mastering the art of sitting alone, which is awesome. I have been looking forward to them getting to the point where they can sit and play with toys.

QQ- although they are still ebf, I have been using the odd carton of formula to make up milky food for them, like porridge, etc. Both had eczema flare up on their ankles, and R had some in the crease of her big and wobbly neck/under chin bit. I switched them to goat's milk and R's neck cleared up, and both sets of ankles improved. That was a couple of weeks ago. Their ankles flared up again a few days ago, which coincided with me giving them some 'fruity porridge with yoghurt' type powdered breakfast stuff that contained milk powder. Stopped using it and their ankles improved. I am now convinced that it is anything with cow's milk in that is causing the problem. My question is this- how does one tell the difference between lactose intolerance and CMPI, and should I be doing anything else on top of what I already have? Should also mention that S started to show signs of being reflux-y at the same time and that settled down when cut those aforementioned things out.

Btw, having had S go reflux-y, those of you who are dealing with it on a regular basis have become my fucking heroes (vq, detective, yellow wellies- I am looking at you here). Worst week ever, capped off with S refusing to feed AT ALL for almost 9 hours a week yesterday. He was fine on Monday Hmm, but I got an insight into how terrifying it was for you detective when O did the same. And as for the screaming... I was just destroyed :(

I have never had a problem with eczema or reflux with any of my kids before. Despite being on kids 5/6, it felt like being a new, inexperienced mum all over again :(

Catbag · 22/04/2013 19:55

Holy epic post, Batman Blush

Catbag · 22/04/2013 19:58

Should also add that if it were not for all the wise words about reflux on here, I would not have had a CLUE what was wrong with him. I would have thought I'd broken him :(

Passmethecrisps · 22/04/2013 20:05

Poor S catbag

It is likely that S has an allergy to CMP rather than an intolerance to either CM or lactose. Or could be both an allergy and an intolerance. Highly unlikely to be lactose. About 2% of babies have lactose intolerance and it tends to manifest itself very early. Usually as failure to thrive. Cow's milk is linked to causing excema flair ups and can exacerbate asthma. As S refused to eat that sounds like an intolerance as it makes their guts twist this being extremely painful. P's CMPI was diagnosed almost solely on her refusal to eat. Reflux alone rarely has this effect.

YellowWellies · 22/04/2013 20:11

Cat bag more likely CMPI (true lactose intolerance is v rare - like 0.1% of babies and would have them reacting to the lactose in your BM) but mild enough it only affects them if directly consumed by R and S. The skin is classic intolerance. To avoid it becoming an issue don't feed them any more dairy until 8 months / year. And cut down yourself this week to prevent any crossover issues. Try papaya as a natural antacid. Be gentle with weaning this week to help their tums so nothing acidic. Parsnip, pear and papaya are the three best foods for reflux.

And send lots of cuddles from Captain Reflux - it sucks and makes even the basics of parenting so hard sometimes. Thanks for your kind words I know I whinge a lot about it but it can totally colour your day to day life. Today I discovered that Rowntree's randoms may contain milk traces - after I'd scoffed three hand fulls (was starving at station and the only thing that in the kiosk I thought I could eat Sad ) so tonight might be err lively. Confused

YellowWellies · 22/04/2013 20:13

Haha glad to see Pass is also manning the CMPI red emergency phone Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Passmethecrisps · 22/04/2013 20:15

Lolz at the CMPI emergency response team!

FatimaLovesBread · 22/04/2013 20:17

Woohoo DH got a new job!!!

StuntNun · 22/04/2013 20:19

Send me a PM with your address Catbag. My stretch marks are a sight to behold as well but after ten years I'm used to them. My bikini days are long gone!

Clarella · 22/04/2013 20:22

oh catbag you poor thing. I now realise more than ever we've had reflux a lot in the past linked to his tongue tie. it's so hard. finding a good sympathetic doctor who knows you don't give gavisgon to bf babies is important but you might have to try first. Wine Brew Thanks
