Am a bit ill today with the antibiotics.

Re sterilising stuff. I thought from 6 months washing in hot soapy water is enough as they stuff everything in their mouths anyway. LO grabbed and sucked on the dog's ear today for example ugh

DD1 watching BGT is more entertaining than the show itself. She's imitating each performer.

Night all.

MaMaPo · 20/04/2013 20:33

pass your dad Grin

Thanks about the swaddle. Does your LO have a bedtime signifier, like music or anything? One thing I think we need is a signal to C that its bedtime. She definitely becomes more sleepy as soon as she's swaddled, and I don't want to lose that! Have been giving her a monkey lovey toy when she sleeps in the pram, maybe that will work. I tried her one arm out for a nap today, she did ok but needed rocking to fall asleep anyway. Her self-soothing has gone out the window :(

fruitpastilles · 20/04/2013 20:38

mama S has 4 bottles a day, 7,11,3 and last one at 6:30 before bed.

I've just heard her sneezing, I hope she doesn't wake up with it, can babies have hay fever? She's been in the garden today and dp cut the grass this morning and she has sneezed quite a bit today, she doesn't have a runny nose or eyes though.

pr I thought it was until 1 year that you had to sterilise, although thinking about it my cousin told me that and she has OCD so maybe she was just being extra cautious? I forgot to sterilise Sinead's spoon before I gave her her baby rice this morning, oops!

ChasingDaisy · 20/04/2013 20:42

O puts EVERYTHING in his mouth. Sterilising seems a bit pointless Hmm Obviously I do sterilise his bottles and sippy cup but I do wonder why sometimes.

MsJupiterJones · 20/04/2013 20:43

Pass I have just tried to read that conversation with your dad to DH. I don't think I did the accent justice Blush

VQ L is on Nutramigen AA.

StuntNun · 20/04/2013 20:45

Just my opinion MM but you may want to keep your milk supply going for a couple of weeks. You may find that after you've had a little break from all the stress and lack of sleep you have been going through that you find you want to give bf one last go. My perception is that ladies on this thread who had to stop bfing for one reason or another have had emotional times of it and may have appreciated a second chance at it. Otoh if in a couple of weeks your view is ff is brilliant why didn't I switch sooner, then you can stop completely, certain that it's the right decision for you. Just my two cents, feel free to ignore!

DH is in a bad mood. Hmm DS2 has had his bottom smacked and DS1 is crying in bed about something. I think I might stay in bed with J for a bit to hide while he finishes his feed.

Babies can't have hayfever Fruit bit she could have been irritated by particulates in the air. We don't have to worry about hayfever until next year at the earliest.

When he's 7 months ill stop washing the bottles in boiling water. The only reason I've carried on is N was early.

Evil

PetiteRaleuse · 20/04/2013 20:57

Here the guidelines are possibly different. Might be one year in the UK but when so much is going into the mouth anyway and also meat and proper dairy being introduced with all that involves I'm not sure what the logic would be.

PetiteRaleuse · 20/04/2013 20:59

I will be stopping in the next week or so anyway.

BigPigLittlePig · 20/04/2013 21:02

I thought sterilising was so that germs were less likely to breed in the milk then once made up. May be totally wrong though. On the rare occasions F has ebm, I just wash the bottles in hot soapy water, then the milk goes from sterile milk bag into clean bottle and she drinks it straight away. Just sterilise every so often to ward off thrush. Bleurgh.

ChasingDaisy · 20/04/2013 21:09

pig I think you're right about the milk thing.

Detective how did today go?

Passmethecrisps · 20/04/2013 21:14

I thought sterilising was until 6 months. I think I will sterilise bottles for a while longer - it's the teats I worry about. Other stuff I won't bother. P grabbed the cat's back paw and had in almost in her mouth before any of us - even the cat - noticed!

JJ I am sure your accent made it hilarious!

Has anyone on here used domperidone to up milk supply? Apparently it is commonly used.

fruitpastilles · 20/04/2013 21:15

Thanks stunt I suffer quite badly with hay fever, that's what made me wonder.

Passmethecrisps · 20/04/2013 21:16

What's the difference between nutramigen Lipl and nutramigen AA? P is on Lipl.

TheDetective · 20/04/2013 21:26

I will sterilise til 1 year. But only milk stuff. So bottles. Everything else like bowls and spoons won't be.

Milk = germ breeding ground! Plus I don't trust DPs washing up Hmm.

YellowWellies · 20/04/2013 21:33

AA is the most extreme hypoallergenic of the neutramagen formulas its amino acid based (I'm not sure if its ever even seen a cow)- the dietician said it would be the only formula suitable for Captain Reflux but its so odd (all babies on it have green diarrhoea) and a bit far out science kit that I'm wary of using it. He will be going on it at one though so I can eat again Blush She said we'd likely need to add krusha strawberry syrup to even get him to touch it!!! Shock

MsJupiterJones · 20/04/2013 21:35

AA stands for Amino Acid, tbh I don't really know the difference exactly but afaiaa the AA one has the proteins broken down as much as possible. We have a review mtg on Thurs just before he turns 6 months.

TheDetective · 20/04/2013 21:36

Chasing I really enjoyed it. Got stuck in to the debates. It also turns out I am semi famous in the local midwifery world Hmm Blush. My homebirth plans caused ripples. Apparently there was a lot of scared midwives behind the scenes, but also a lot of debate. And that since me, other women have made similar choices, and the midwives have been much more open minded and supportive.

Power to the people!

But, I was among like minded midwives. And it is refreshing. DP said I was with the other rebels. Grin He's right though!

Very interesting debate on media, and how powerful advertising is to new mothers. I'm tired, but if I wasn't, I'd go in to it more on here, because it would be very interesting to us all!

I found I didn't have chance to miss O. But my ass is on fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiire. Am camped out on sofa, lay on side, sans underwear! Ouch. :(

O was delighted to see me when I picked him up. He was up at 6am this morning, and slept for 3 half hour stints all day. Can't say I'm too happy about that! He better not cut down on his naps by that much!! Still, he's gone to bed okay....

I'm hitting the sack myself. Soon!

MsJupiterJones · 20/04/2013 21:44

YW it certainly hasn't caused diarrhoea here, quite the opposite. I have to over-dilute the formula just to prevent him going completely solid. But they certainly are a delightful shade of avocado green Grin

Tastes and smells foul but he guzzles it and is thriving.

ValiumQueen · 20/04/2013 21:50

I will sterilise bottles to 1 year whilst on formula. Longer if he needs px formula longer. Due to the bugs in the milk.

JJ of course! How could I forget? Blush

Passmethecrisps · 20/04/2013 21:55

Oh mama I forgot to answer.

P has a Ewan the dream sheep which is played on harp. She has been in a sleeping bag for day naps since she was about 6 weeks old though so I wonder if it might take a bit longer for your LO. I started giving P a jelly cat sheep to hold for day naps - she rubs it on her face. She also has a dummy. So, in answer to your question, she has quite a lot of sleep cues. I am not convinced any of them work as well as the swaddle ever did but in fairness she has been swaddled since birth and in the sleeping bag a few days. It will take time. Remember I also moved p into her own room in the cot at the same time as stopping swaddling so she had a lot to contend with. I now shoosh pat to almost asleep just because I think she needs a wee hand establishing the room and cot with sleep.

She LOVES going in the cot and gets all excited wiggling about. I think she needs help learning that the cot is for sleeping.

YellowWellies · 20/04/2013 21:58

JJ that's so good to hear I'm terrified of going onto it as have never heard anyone say a good thing about it. Am v relieved that it can work like a charm Smile that's made me much happier about 'le grande prize the enfant off the boobies' challenge come his first birthday Grin

ValiumQueen · 20/04/2013 21:59

The Lipil is for intolerance. The AA is for severe intolerance or multiple allergies. I am very grateful J just has a mild intolerance.

ValiumQueen · 20/04/2013 22:03

YW apparently something happens to their taste buds at around 7 months, so they are more likely to accept Nutramigen before then. J took a while to be persuaded, but hunger won out. He is now taking around 40oz a day. At a year old, milk is less important so I would think most of the nutrients he would need could be given in other foods?
