Envy of clean house.

Not been able to sleep yet this evening so have just popped a pill. Desperate times. Hope I don't feel too groggy tomorrow morning.

Passmethecrisps · 08/02/2013 23:41

katkit we had 4 * pea sized amount per day of daktarin. Cleared the thrush in 2 days having had 2 weeks of nyastin

ChunkyChicken · 08/02/2013 23:58

DS started stirring which is unlike him so currently feeding. He had his hand tenderly placed on my boob kinda.hugging it as he started feeding, bless his little cotton socks. He's actually having a proper feed too, which is unusual at thus time. Is it too much to ask that he doesn't want his 4/5am feed??!!

kirrinIsland · 09/02/2013 00:02

Sorry the Dr wasn't more helpful VQ

PR (sorry, going back way up the thread here but I haven't checked in all day) I don't think N would necessarily sleep any more with formula, but I do think she'd sleep better IYSWIM? The reason for resisting it is purely that I managed to do 6months EBF with DD1 so it feels unfair not to do it for N if I can. And I can do it - it just seems so much harder this time.

I've spent the last few days staying with family, so lots of people to hold N while she sleeps during the day. This has brought home how much she will sleep if given the chance. Normally she falls asleep on me but then gets woken cos I have to move - to do something for DD1 or we're going out or whatever. This means several short naps of 20 minutes or so, rather than 2 or 3 of an hour or more. I need to fix this, but she generally starts flapping as soon as I put her down. I tried putting down in her pram last week and she went from slight grizzle to hysterical in about 2 minutes :(

Wishing you all a good night's sleep.......

TheDetective · 09/02/2013 00:02

3 awakenings already. Poor little thing. Completely not like him.

katkit1 · 09/02/2013 01:57

Thanks yw and pass.

We've had 2 months of thrush so can't wait to try the dektarin. I was a bit worried when I read about wrong dose info given by gp to yw.

Pea sized amounts - noted. I'll make sure that matches what my instructions say tomorrow.

ValiumQueen · 09/02/2013 02:22

Sleep pattern same as last night so far - 10 to 1.15. Hope he settles quicker though. He was so miserable last night - like full on colic behaviour.

My GP is usually fab, I just think she doesn't know, and they are only human, they cannot know everything. Thankfully I have faith in my HV, to listen at least.

Thank you for the advice about A and E horsey if it gets that bad, I will go.

pikz I too have thought of you when I have had trouble feeding.

detective welcome to the world of snot. I found it helpful reading your post to remind me how hard DS has had it, being in the snot club since a week of age. I hope he manages to get some sleeo, and you too.

This chest infection is a fucker. I will not describe the things coming from my lungs for fear of offending. Better out than in.

So, reflux gurus, where does wind fit in to the picture?

glendathegoodwitch · 09/02/2013 02:41

detective oh I'm all too aware of the politics involved in midwifery at our trust - we moved to long days last year and as a result 80% of the time midwives don't get their breaks as there's not that extra cross over midday - not to mention the poor family friendly "we cannot will not allow regular same day shifts so for anyone with kids you have to have full time childcare in place when you only need 3 days.

I'm doing my training cos I've wanted to be a midwife since I was little and I want to do it for the women - there are some amazing midwives I work with but unfortunately there are also some terrible shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a labouring women midwives too - I obviously want to be an amazing one lol

Midwives on our ward prefer labour ward as they have one woman to look after and get breaks as there's over 7 midwives - upstairs there's only 3 but with the same number of delivery rooms - so its a constant juggle!!!

Dottie went to bed at 10pm in her big bed!!!!! She has never gone down before 11.30 wooooooo!! And the only reason I'm here typing is cos of bloody baaaaaad indigestion damn warm garlic bread so swigging milk and waiting for the 3 omerprazole tablets to kick in!!!!

Catbag · 09/02/2013 03:20

Well done fir follwoing your dream glenda. That's what I have tried to do, but then I wanted to join a profession that costs a bloody fortune to get qualified and train for, so I have kind of stalled now, until I win the lottery at least :(

Pikz · 09/02/2013 04:34

Kat kit daktarin is the best. Pea sized amount 4x day and all gone!

Much happier now I've started to take control again. Am going to start a very slow weaning from the pump process. As long as we get to 12 weeks at 90% ebf I am happy and I've done my shift. That's less than a week away. From there he will get used to formula and I shall be a happier mum with more time.

I'm really glad I lasted this long but I am also glad of making the decision to stop. LO and I and DP all need the break from the pump.

kirrinIsland · 09/02/2013 04:51

Yay glenda - about the big cot, not the heartburn!

Poor O detective - hope he feels better soon, and you are not up all night.

pikz must be a relief to have made that decision. You have done really well to have done it for so long.

catbag what are you studying?

Second wake up of the night here - not too bad really, especially compared to the last few weeks nights.

ChunkyChicken · 09/02/2013 05:36

DD screeches, something like "Noooooo!!! Me want that..." so I go in & check. DS stirring. Determined he will go longer at night - he's gone 8-9 hrs in the past & it's been under 8, so shove dummy in. He rolls on to his side Shock & seems to settle. Unfortunately, he keeps spitting the dummy out, so I'm now awake anyway... Don't want to feed for the sake of it but want to go back to sleep!!!

zcos · 09/02/2013 05:39

what am I doing!? dd is asleep and has been since 11.30 I am awake and have been all night ... woke once by the cat ... Angry ... and dd breathing cos of her semi blocked nose which seems to be getting better through the night ... when she did seem to be sleeping soundly I almost gave myself a heart attack as I didn't think I could feel her breathing and thought I felt her heart slow down ... she then snuffled at me as if to say what are you doing I'm trying to sleep! Thought I had stopped being a parsnip mummy! when does this stop will I ever be brave enough to think about her going in her own room? will I be reaching across to check her heartbeat when she is 18!
and just cos its the night and I'm not sleeping what about this ... am I not sleeping cos of something more sinister ... I am the worse hypochondriac!!

zcos · 09/02/2013 05:44

Glenda is dotty in her own room what was your nightime routine (what's the magic button?) thought dd was going to go down at 10 tonight too which would have been her pb! its so scary to look down and see those dark eyes looming from the darkness ... so beautiful in the morning almost sinister in the night! Grin

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 09/02/2013 06:19

catbag are you doing law?

PetiteRaleuse · 09/02/2013 06:39

I have two earlybirds here, lucky little me.

kirrin I have three siblings. The eldest was bf for 2 years, the second for a year, the 3rd for 6 months and the youngest for a few weeks. I don't think any of us are bothered, and my mum isn't either. It's just life , hard to give as much time to later children.

VQ how are DD1's teeth?

glendathegoodwitch · 09/02/2013 06:47

Wooooo 10-6.30!!!

zycos nope Dottie hasn't got her own room - she will have to go in with dd1 when She's around 10mts or when I can be sure dd1 won't be waking her every 10 minutes! since she was a week old I have given her 1 ff at night of 7/8oz and swaddled her - this has given me 12-7 most nights. My other two were fab night sleepers too so no idea what the secret is - daytime naps is a whole nother matter!!!

Fingers x'd for a quick feed and back to bed - I could do with a lie in!!!

Catbag · 09/02/2013 06:59

kirrin & madame Yes, I am doing law. Had this half-baked notion of being a barrister since I was seven years old, but failed to give consideration to the £15,000 cost of the postgrad professional qualification, the competition to get pupillage, scratching a living for the first few years, managing it all with five children etc. I think I thought I could storm it by will-power alone. Anyway, I have three months of my degree left and absolutely nothing to do afterwards. Will start buying lottery tickets, I think.

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 09/02/2013 07:05

catbag yes, it is very tough. Are you just finishing the BVC? Good luck!

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 09/02/2013 07:05

Posted too soon! Am extremely impressed you're managing all of that with 5 kids and really hope you find a pupillage.

katkit1 · 09/02/2013 07:28

Alex will be 3 months on tues and 4 months or so by the time i fully stop bf. i feel amazed that I've gone this far, everyday has been difficult - thrush and constant biting, pulling and chewing. I can't wait to be able to wrap a towel around myself after a shower without wincing as it brushes my nipples.

ChunkyChicken · 09/02/2013 08:17

I don't think you can do the 'same' for each child, although I have the same motivation for bfing A.

I think I wanted a home birth to help correct the 'wrongs' of my experience with DD. I'm glad A is putting on weight really well because it too is a 'salve' for my bruised ego after the tricky start with DD. And yet, despite all that, I was happier after DD's birth than I have been in recent weeks. It's ironic really - the problematic things from first time around are improved second time around, but the things that were okay first time have been problematic this time. I think its very rare that you can get a perfect birth+breastfeeding+new baby+happy relationship with your partner all at once!! Maybe its God/the Universe/Fate's way of evening things up??!! Hmm So, I guess, if I was going to try to do everything 'the same' for both dc, I would have a shed load of guilt right there to beat myself up about....

horseylady · 09/02/2013 08:20

vq ds would bring his knees in and scream just after a feed. I assumed it was just because he needed burping. Interesting he's only done it twice, the first was using the new teats and the second dh said he did. I wasn't there so I'm not sure. I think with silent reflux they can have colic as well. Again colic is a blanket term.
