Cat bag very much laughing out loud at the bad baby sat on floor good baby in chair image.

Signing up for swimming, massage and sensory to stop my small mind from going insane being at home. Not working is weird.

Just back from the tongue tie referral. He scored 4 out of 14 for tongue function. So that might explain why he hasn't been putting on weight.

He has had it snipped. But will need to learn to feed again. It may be too late for that but I've hired a hospital grade pump so can express and bottle feed if nec.

He screamed so much afterwards he couldn't latch on. I had 4 people standing over me trying to give advice. Eventually went to quiet room but he was too distressed. So was I tbh. So we've come home. He dropped off on the way back so I'm hoping he'll sleep for a little while and wake up feeling better. Hope he can find his new latch and start feeding again. Poor little mite.

FreddieMercurysBolero · 09/01/2013 17:46

Do you have something in the gap between bed and cot VQ? Need to get a mattress for mine and put it together, my back is in bits from sleeping on my side.

Sophia, glad that went well for you, you must be relieved:)

L has slept for oooh about 20 mins today. Thought they were supposed to sleep more during a growth spurt? Gah.

horseylady · 09/01/2013 17:47

Blonder - hugs. Hopefully he'll latch on!!

I highly recommend swimming!! Such fun and a sleepy baby!!

Thanks for the birthday wishes!! Still feeling awful with the cold :( boooo so staying in rather than going out :( never mind!! I can't taste anything so pointless eating out!!

PetiteRaleuse · 09/01/2013 17:50

Both mine had tongue tie snipped on day two. Is there any reason none of the weighers and growth curvers haven't picked up on it before?

It was posterior and when anyone had watched me feed or put their finger in his mouth it seemed like he was sucking. But today they said he was probably just sucking with his lips and his tongue was just flickering (which was what I had said it felt like... repeatedly). Now they've snipped it you can really see where it was. Big diamond shape behind his tongue. So I think it's probably a bit sorer than a front one would have been. Really really hope it helps.

Sheep pressie is lovely. My ILs bought M a boat (helpful, not...).

My dad "couldnt afford to buy her a mattress" because (evil) step mother wanted a skiing holiday. He is in no way short of money. The £60 bottle of whiskey he turned up with wanting to 'wet her head' with the one time he has come to see her (he lives 20 mins away and hasnt even texted to see how shes doing since she was 2 days old) pretty much sums him up. The week I wrote my car off he took me to look at new cars. Progress I thought (he has never acknowledged birthdays or christmases ever) - he bought 2 new cars for him and my stepmum and didnt so much as offer to lend us one while we replaced ours Envy .

My lovely mum on the other hand has bought M lots of practical pressies. Including a nice cheque to keep us in nappies for a year plus Smile .

We aren't exactly struggling financially but PIL and my dad have no idea. PIL are loaded and lavish us in expensive impractical gifts. My dad is a tight bastard. I dont expect anything from anyone and would much rather stand on my own two feet. It's just the principal of it... (babies dont need 10k sailing dinghies kept in another country...)Hmm

PetiteRaleuse · 09/01/2013 18:17

Oh the poor thing. That sounds far more complicated than the type my two had. I take back my snippiness at your hvs.

Hope it helps him :)

Evilwater · 09/01/2013 18:20

I don't want to write it, just in case. But g... Day.
Evil.

blonderthanred · 09/01/2013 18:31

Thanks PR and Horsey. I am feeling a bit snippy myself that no one would take my concerns seriously. We have had countless appointments, drs paeds mws HVs and bf consultants! So you would have thought... Anyway no point in getting cross. Just focus on getting him latched on and fattened up.

StuntNun · 09/01/2013 18:42

Give him time Blonder, babies are very flexible. It might only take a few days for him to relearn.

Top tip for cradle cap, my older boys both got seborrhoeic dermatitis (which is what cradle cap is called if you aren't a baby) and it cleared up when they started weekly swimming lessons. So if you take your baby swimming make sure to get their hair wet.

I'm getting fed up of this breastfeeding malarkey. J keeps popping off, taking huge gasps, turning his head from side to side, wriggling about, crying in frustration. It's painful on my nipples because he keeps pulling his head away when he's arching his back, and it's sore on my arms trying to hold on to him. Then an hour after feeds he's screaming at the pain in his tummy. Then half an hour after that he's hungry again. And he must have possetted or puked ten times today. He certainly doesn't seem to be enjoying himself.

glendathegoodwitch · 09/01/2013 18:56

stunt that is exactly what Dottie does and today even more so as she's been non stop feeding which hopefully means a good nights sleep

MissMummy1 · 09/01/2013 19:01

Dinner cooked, baby fed changed and as happy as a colicky babe can be, hoovering done, dishwasher emptied, washing not put away. I could almost pass for good housewife material!

pikz · 09/01/2013 19:19

Blonder do not despair if he doesn't. L wouldn't after his tongue tie and we had to go the expressing and bottle route. Despite all it's throw at me 7 weeks later we are still going strong on it. Big hugs.

KissysUnderTheMisteltoe · 09/01/2013 19:28

Hope he latches on blonder, good luck x

blonderthanred · 09/01/2013 19:29

Thanks pikz. You've done a brilliant job, inspirational.

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 09/01/2013 19:32

I looked into tongue tie etc when it was clear that DS has one. Apparently HCP are no longer used to recognising them & dealing with them due to the 70s promotion of formula as better than breastmilk and so on. Not an excuse, given the massive push to persuade that breast is best & that tongue tie is a major issue is preventing mums establishing breastfeeding.

blonder don't know what tongue function DS had, but was estimated at 90% tie & his snip also resulted in a hefty diamond shape under his tongue. Have you been given any exercises or techniques to improve his latch? Try poking your tongue out at him & he'll try to copy, should exercise his tongue. Make sure you go back to basics (nose to nipple, tum to tum etc etc) & treat him like a newborn so that he learns a good latch. DS fed well from the beginning despite the tie but I could feel the 'dragging' sensation of his tongue massaging my breast immediately after the op. Good luck!!

gardenpixies32 · 09/01/2013 19:46

Yay for the wicked chair cat.

Happy Birthday Horsey

We go swimming on Saturdays. The girls love it. We are a big swimming family. My sister swam in the Olympics (not for Britain though). Other sister is a Learn to Swim teacher. I am hoping the girls will be water babies too. Said sister could swim completely unaided by 18 months.

pikz · 09/01/2013 19:47

For sale one selfish DP. Comes with a decent coffee machine and own car. Free delivery Hmm

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 09/01/2013 19:47

I've had a bad night and a bad day. DS was up 3 times last night for snacky type feeds and won't feed properly today. He just sucks for a min or two then cries to come off then repeats this half an hour later If that. Any ideas??

gardenpixies32 · 09/01/2013 19:51

No thanks Pilz, I have one mega selfish one here. He is a tired man, don't ya know! He carried twins, had massive bump, dealt with babies in NICU, had a c section, got infection, had abdominal surgery when babies were 6 weeks old. Poor man. No wonder he is tired.

gardenpixies32 · 09/01/2013 20:03

Izzy maybe he has a bad throat or sore ears and it hurts to suck? Just a thought.

blonderthanred · 09/01/2013 20:11

Thank you Kissys and Chunky esp re exercises, we left in a bit of a hurry as L was so hysterical.

Good news, he is feeding and it feels different so hopefully that's a good sign. Now growth spurt please!
