Ok... I give in this child just wants to be attached to me all day. I know you've posted them before but I need sling recommendations as currently using my stokke carrier which isn't great in the house.

YellowWellies · 20/12/2012 11:39

Wahey 30 hours dairy free, cot head raised even more, even the change mat is on an incline, feeding Jonas upright and holding him upright after a feed has had some results! He slept from 10.30 til 5.30, then from 6.30 til 9.30 and better still - as he wasn't making choking noises I SLEPT too! Ok it might be a jag hangover but he is sooooo much happier today. It could also be a sign that his symptoms could just be treated by diet and might not be as bad as others in my family.

We haven't even started meds yet as Stromness pharmacy had to call Kirkwall for the ranitidine so we won't get it until lunchtime.

All babies have some reflux as Stunt says as the sphincter at the top of the stomach is weak for the first few months but if your wee one is in pain that's the sign to get treated. Honestly though infant gaviscon in many cases is totally useless - its a milk thickener that thickens the stomach contents and makes them harder to chuck up but if your wee one like J suffers from choking it can be dangerous. It's also nigh on impossible to get 15ml of gaviscon into a BF baby 6 times a day. Hence we've gone straight for ranitidine which is an antacid.

I've also realised that Jonas rapid weight gain and using me (my boobs!) every couple of hours, as a comforter is another symptom - breast milk is a natural antacid so he's been suckling to cool the acid burn. Smart little fraggles these babies eh? So don't be dismissed that only skinny babies have reflux - failure to thrive isn't a universal symptom.

Today I shall be mostly living on pork pies, prawns, nuts, fruit (not citrus or bananas) and haribo. I have told DH to take one for the team and eat all of the chocolate.

YellowWellies · 20/12/2012 11:40

I do however need to find a good calcium supplement that is dairy and soy free hmmmm

ShellyBobbs · 20/12/2012 11:43

Detective I was there on Sunday, good luck, we didn't last long it was just too busy!

Have 2 builders here today putting in a couple of windows. One looks like Gollum and the other looks like Fred West. They keep whispering and giggling with each other. I've just looked in the bathroom and you should see the mess they have left, I'm going to tell them to clean it up and fix the tiles they have broken! They have been here 3.5 hours already ffs, how long does it take to put in 2 fecking windows?

ShellyBobbs · 20/12/2012 11:46

Why not bananas YW?

PetiteRaleuse · 20/12/2012 11:53

LO had her jabs today. Screamed like a banshee :) but she soon forgot about it. Was weighed and is still bang on the 50th centile. DD1 is on the 98th centile so quite a difference to be ecpected later on. Next visit planned for end January, fingers crossed there's no need to go before.

Passmethecrisps · 20/12/2012 12:07

Good news petite

yw what have you propped your changing mat on?

Passmethecrisps · 20/12/2012 12:09

My goodness what a description shelly!

YellowWellies · 20/12/2012 12:10

We've got an ikea inflatable changing mat (£4!) and have just popped a cushion under neath it - it's underneath the mobile too so it seems to distract him happily during changes.

Shelly bananas can be allergenic for reflux too.

Evilwater · 20/12/2012 12:14

More teething here. He likes to bit down on my finger, as the teething rings are to big. Poor boy!

Evil

ShellyBobbs · 20/12/2012 12:22

Gollum and Fred are sat in their van eating dinner, still not finished the windows!

ShellyBobbs · 20/12/2012 12:25

Oh I didn't realise YW, I luvs me narnas. Have just read that the taste stays in the milk up to an hour after eating them, banana milkshake all round.

ShellyBobbs · 20/12/2012 12:27

I'll post a picture I've just taken of Tommy. This is what happens when I sing and make him dance, he sings with mr Xmas Grin.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 20/12/2012 12:28

shelley lol. I had a window replaced in the summer. It took 5 minutes. Pop it out, pop the new one in Seriously. What kind of windows do you have?

Hooray we passed the hearing test

It was a bit diddly and stressful though.

PetiteRaleuse · 20/12/2012 12:28

Bog standard ones Sophia, I was expecting a 2 hour job max! Glad the hearing test went OK :)

Imagine the giggling and whispering on top of that image!

sweetpea1112 · 20/12/2012 12:39

Stunt and YW thank you for the perspective re reflux. Little O doesnt seem in pain very often and does also suffer from wind so may be that as well. Have propped his moses basket up a little more and will be trying upright feeding to see if that helps.

ShellyBobbs · 20/12/2012 12:40

Gollum is cleaning the bathroom.........

YellowWellies · 20/12/2012 13:25

Now thats not a sentence you hear every day shelly!!!

Bryzoan · 20/12/2012 14:09

Pikz - and others looking at slings. Please make sure your carriers are hip friendly. Info here www.hipdysplasia.org/developmental-dysplasia-of-the-hip/prevention/baby-carriers-seats-and-other-equipment/. The ergo, manduca, boba, Mei tei and Kari me among others are. Baby Bjorn unfortunately isn't. Dd1 had hip dysplasia, diagnosed late at 16 months (the manual hip check they do on newborns isn't as reliable as the scans, amd the problem can develop / get worse over time) she needed 10 days in hosp for an initial op, 3 months in a full body cast and another 2 general anaesthetics - and she may well need more work on her hips later. Really frustrating as it may have been avoidable,

Bryzoan · 20/12/2012 14:13

I'm sat in hip clinic now waiting for G's second hip ultrasound (had one last week that was inconclusive...) fingers crossed! Though at least if he has it too we'll catch it early this time - much better long term prognosis and less invasive treatment.

Bryzoan · 20/12/2012 14:20

Signs of hip dysplasia include asymmetric buttock creases, dragging one leg crawling and / or walking with a limp, asymmetric leg length and limited movement range. If you notice any of these as your baby grows ask for an x-ray / ultrasound. Wish I had! I noticed dd1's creases weren't symmetrical but thought nothing of it.

pikz · 20/12/2012 14:38

Thank you bryozoan. We've just had a hipscan due to his breech and want to do everything to protect his joints.

KissysUnderTheMisteltoe · 20/12/2012 14:41

Glad the hearing test went well sophia

Thanks for posting that bryozan will be very conscious of how LO's legs are positioned now! sorry to hear about your DD. we bought a baby Bjorn sling, might see if I can take it back!

Took LO to be weighed today, she's 11lb 2 and on 91st centile. HV said green poo can be caused by wind and to try Infacol, which we have and she does seem to burp better after having it, which is good Smile
