Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Has she had a swab taken? Could be a bit of infection, she may need eye drops? Oscar had gunky eyes very slightly but 3 days of cooled boiled water did the job... glad the Oilatum worked for you too Grin.

Glad I'm not alone with up and down days! Sleep deprivation is a bastard!

FatimaLovesBread · 09/12/2012 00:39

Detective I was thinking it could be, she's been awake all night with no naps but feeding every 30 mins since half7. She's finally gone down in her basket now though so fingers crossed.

Another couple of questions....
-What clothes/blankets is everyone's babies sleeping in? How many blankets and how many times folded? I'm now worrying about over heating but I know she sleeps better when snuggly. I think I'm having a night of worrying.

-Can anyone recommend some sanitary towels? Strange request I know. The lochia is v slight now so I don't think it requires big maternity matresses anymore but I crap with towels. Wings used to chafe and some used to buck and feel plasticky. So no idea what to buy.

TheDetective · 09/12/2012 01:03

Fatima exact same here. But now back on the tits again! Like a boob addict! I'm in bed now though.... Sigh! He was fast asleep. With in 2 minutes of being in the basket... Ping!

Blankets... I try not to over think it. I like it cool and am not one for the heating being on much! He has a vest, sleep suit, blanket folded in 2 swaddled in that Blush with a thin blanket over the top to tuck in around the mattress. I leave his shoulders uncovered when swaddling. Am thinking of a swaddle pod but he prefers the soft acrylic cellular blanket that I wrap him in to anything else.

Would also like sanitary pad recommendations as the ones (bodyform super, long, no wings) are crud. I just got my arse hairs stuck in one FFS. And I had to explain that one to DP as I was hoping around the bedroom. They just crumble up the fanjo and get stuck to everything but my knickers Hmm. I'm going without one tonight. It's just discharge now unless ive been out when it gets heavier. Sod it. I'm more comfortable without!

TheDetective · 09/12/2012 01:04

That should say the ones DP got for me the other day. Grin

CandyPop · 09/12/2012 01:45

fatima my blankets similar to detectives. My room is around 17c at night. So she wears short sleeve vest, babygrow then covered with a single sheet then a cellular blanket folded twice just tucked into the sides no higher than her nipples ( ie. under her arms)...

I'm worried about overheating too, although I don't really understand, if baby should wear an extra layer to what we wear, why then when they sleep its so much less?!

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 09/12/2012 02:09

I got a really useful sheet with tog ratings on for things like babygros, blankets from my HV. Essentially, at the ideal room temp of 18, they need 9 tog. Stuck here feeding, otherwise I'd did it out..

candy I think its because their brains aren't v sophisticated so can't control their temp v well, & its worse at night.

rowingdowntheriver · 09/12/2012 02:17

I think Louis has got colic. Sad

He cries each evening between about 7 and 9 for the last week or so, it was manageable until last night when it was horrendous as it was non stop and nothing would calm him down - not feeding, cuddling, burping. We even tried giving him formula incase he wasn't getting enough milk from me but it didn't work.

Have started on infacol, only in the evenings though as he is fine during the day and night. What else can we do? Is gripe water ok at 6 weeks?

Kyzordz · 09/12/2012 02:33

I think gripe water is ok from 1 month rowing, poor Louis :(

Fun and games here :( LO was prescribed infant gaviscon on tuesday, I took him to the gp as he was always swallowing back something and it often made him cry and feed times were a nightmare, he'd arch his back and scream but want more at the same time as being in distress. I dreaded every feed :( they think perhaos silent refluxthe gaviscon seemed to help at first and I switched to mam bottles to see if the teat helped with dribbling and it did, he fed beautifully, until today :( his acid seemed to come back over the last day or so, I noticed him swallowing it back more again and grimacing as though it tasted bad. Then today he was sick quite alot two feeds in a row and both feeds since then he's back to guzzling, dribbling, arching his back, screaming and generally being distressed and frustrated :( he's taken ages to settle but part of that might be because I'm scared he'll be sick so won't put him down, and also we keep him upright 30 mins after a feed to help his tummy settle.

The last feed I've just put him down, and he guzzled 6 ounces but fought it aswell as wanted it. He's kept it down, gave his wind and seems ok and settled but he seemed so distressed drinking it :'( I hate seeing him like that :( I dont think he has trapped wind though he does suffer from it :(. The first time he was sick today he was coughing and the second time it just came up :(

Sorry, I know that's a jumbled mess and I don't expect any advice I just needed to let my worries out. I wonder if he's guzzling again because he is hungry after being sick twice in a row? He normally has 4.5, 5 oz so six is more than usual, he still seemed hungry but I've settled him, scared to give him more in case he's sick, and he isn't very hungry because he's still asleep and has been whilst I've typed this. So far he's only swallowed back stuff once in five mins but I still darebt sleep :(

GTbaby · 09/12/2012 02:36

Oh dear. So much I want to reply to
Det I think you can keep Brest milk for next feed. I'm sure I read this on LLL site. Also I read a study of breast milk being re frozen. N no bacteria formed. I think what i read Recommended Storing in smaller portions, but could b kept for next feed if left. Anyway see If u can find more info.

Sanitary towels. I use always long night time towels. Dark blue packet as I prefer longer towels. They r super thin tho. Particular after using maternity pads for 5weeks.

Thanks Jen. Feel better with my action plan.

Det. Clothes wearing well. Worse been mamma n Papa basic baby grows. Best have been debenhams blue zoo. Bright colours washed well. I put them on 40 degree which is about 45min cycle. I stick in dryer. If mil has her way she hangs them up. I don't mind as long as I don't have to stand in cold hanging.
Mothercare have been good aswell

Sleeping. My room is about 18 degree. He has vest and a baby grow. Sleep depend on how he is being. He has days were he hates swoddleing. Will kick in struggle all night in which case I move him to gro bag. Other days he moves his arms to much n gets them trapped in crib bars. To swoddle I either use a thin swoddle blanket from white company. Very thin so double up with cellular blanket folded in half. Or swoddle with cellular blanket.

kirrinIsland · 09/12/2012 02:37

detective sounds like we're having the same night you're having. The longest she's gone in the Moses basket tonight is 25 minutes, then she's awake and grizzling again. Trouble is, she's feeding little and often but I just can't get her to take more at a time.

GTbaby · 09/12/2012 02:38

glenda what app? I use what I think is official mumsnet app. N I Abel to scroll thro whole thread to find where I left off.

GTbaby · 09/12/2012 02:45

rowing u can use infocol from birth or gripwater from 4 weeks.
U need to give infocol at every feed. Even if only bad in evening takes a few days to work. I've read recommendations o give 15 min before feed. But not always possible. No dose limit.

Gripwater I believe is a little quicker at working. But dose limit to 6 times. Easier to put in bottle of ff for me. Or use a syringe.

I had this few weeks ago. Still get odd days. Does get better.
Hope that helps.

GTbaby · 09/12/2012 02:48

Glenda that should read. Current app I have to scroll tho whole thread looking for wereI left off.

Titsalinabumsquash · 09/12/2012 03:14

Urgh grizzling baby. Hmm

ValiumQueen · 09/12/2012 03:27

Mummy awake
Baby sleeping but feeding small and often
Daddy snoring
Toddler coughing and retching
6yo laughing in her sleep

NervousAt20 · 09/12/2012 03:37

Oh god cat I hope she's okay!!

detective I like metanium. Baby clothes seem to be doing well, we've got quite a few bits from next and mothercare and they seem to come out fine, I give them a good shake a d a pull back into place then put them over the radiators, I try big to use the tumble for LOs stuff

dixie when I was pregnant I'd get randum patches of skin over my bump that would be itchy and so painful like material touching that skin would be awful and I used moisturizer and it helped alot

Aw kyz your poor LO Sad

We're not having a good night here and I think it's starting how if means to go on Xmas Sad LO went 1 1/2 hours between feeds but was awake and grumbling the whole time between so I was awake waiting for her to go to sleep. Attempting transfer again fingers crossed!!!

glendathegoodwitch · 09/12/2012 03:38

gt it is the mumsnet app - I think I have to scroll all the way through too Hmm which is friggin annoying!!! Sorry for gettin hopes up

Our bedroom is 19 degrees and Dottie wears a vest, bundler/nightie then she's in her thin swaddle me and then has a thin fleece blanket covering up to her chest!!

Dixiebell · 09/12/2012 04:27

Teddy slept for 4 hour stretch Grin. Feeding and hope we can get another couple of hours...

fatima, we have a groegg thermometer which comes with a bedding guide. It says temp in room should be 16-20 degrees and baby shld wear vest and babygro and be covered with one sheet and a doubled up cellular blanket. If colder, or warmer add or remove one layer of blanket.

TheDetective · 09/12/2012 04:31

Well he went down just before 2 and woke at 4. So not too bad. Could be worse. We are feeding now. Am so tired!

Please don't let it be a biiiiig feed! And go to sleep after...!

DP is snoring despite me hitting waking him numerous times. Git!

TheDetective · 09/12/2012 04:33

Think we are all in for a crap night?! Anyone having a good one?!!

kirrinIsland · 09/12/2012 05:04

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 09/12/2012 05:12
