A fed at 10.30, 12.30 (I had come to bed at about 11.30), 1.15 then 2. He cried if I tried to put him down (he had slept on me for 30mins) so I went to sleep with him on my chest. 50mins later DD wakes me ("Mummy, Mummy, Muuummy, Muuummmy, Muuummmmy" etc) to tell me she has "sot" (snot) on her face & needs a "sissue" (tissue). Then I ignored all 4 alarms telling me to feed him, so he went about 3.5hrs since the start of the last feed, which is longer than the medically advised 2-3hrs so despite having only had a (generously totalled) 3.5hrs total sleep, I'm feeling guilty in case it hurts his poor little tongue!!! :( :(

Can't remember who has colic BUT it might be worth considering taking baby to an osteopath/chiropractor. Some small adjustments might make a difference...

Reflux - you prob have already, but tilt the cot/basket/crib so the head end is higher to help it stay down when you lay him down.

rowingdowntheriver · 09/12/2012 06:01

Thank you gt and kyzordz.

I'm sorry to hear what you are going through kyzordz, that sounds awfully distressing and stressful. I hope tonight has been an exception for you and things get a bit better again tomorrow.

gt, I remember you mentioning having similar troubles with your little one but I'm afraid I didn't fully appreciate how awful it is to have an inconsolable screaming baby until I got one of my own. I'll try infacol at every feed and will by some gripe water tomorrow too. I also appreciate you saying that it has improved for you after a few weeks. I was starting to think that every evening will be like that until L reaches 6 months Sad

rowingdowntheriver · 09/12/2012 06:09

chunky, it is me with the colicky LO. Thanks for the tip, I'll google osteopaths in my area now to take him to next week. I'll try anything to avoid more nights like the last one.

It's scary how I felt when he was screaming the way he did for so long. I'm so glad it was on a night that DH was here so we could take turns with him. My least disturbing thought was whether we could put him up for adoption. DH is out for his work Christmas do on we'd and now I'm worried about a repeat performance. Might see if my mum or a good friend can come over for the night.

kirrinIsland · 09/12/2012 06:14

Not much chance of sleeping later no :(

izzy that is a good night - long may it continue.

Hope you are ok kysordz

KissysUnderTheMisteltoe · 09/12/2012 06:29

I've got sore eyes too nervous think I've made them worse by rubbing them Hmm

Definitely try an osteopath rowing we took DD1 and although she didn't have colic she was much better afterwards. Taking LO this week as she seems to be in quite a lot of pain when pooing, poor thing

LO is really sounding snuffly and bunged up in the early hours, but she doesn't have a cold. Anyone got any ideas what it could be? Our room goes pretty cold from about 2-5 am, about 15 degrees. She's got a 2.5 tog sleeping bag so should be warm enough but wonder if the cold is affecting her?

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 09/12/2012 06:29

rowing I haven't had a colicky baby but the few times either DC has screamed inconsolably has been hell - let alone every night. My DM has been on at me since we concieved late pregnancy with DS to take the baby to see the family chiropractor (quite literally, DM, DF, DSis & me all see him!) if they cry a lot/are miserable. It's particularly helpful after a difficult or instrumental delivery, as slight elongation of the neck/spine can cause slight misalignments & cause pain (& apparently other illnesses - although that's perhaps the more 'woo' end of the practice). I have also heard good things about osteopathy helping babies. Anything's worth a try though!! Hope it helps.

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 09/12/2012 06:32

My eyes hurt too (have done for a couple of days), thought it was just me!! No infection but feel almost tender to touch as if infected.

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 09/12/2012 06:34

kissy could just be mucous in their small nasal passages that doesn't get shifted at night, because they're lying flat on their back? Just a guess though...

KissysUnderTheMisteltoe · 09/12/2012 06:46

How strange chunky my eyes are the same, felt sure I was getting a sty in one as it was really sore in one spot but nothing's come up, weird

Thanks it does sound like mucus but as she's fine throughout the day and no sign of cold I wasn't sure

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 09/12/2012 06:57

He's in his Moses basket having been rocked to sleep & isn't moaning too much Shock - woo hoo!! Now to get some sleep before my right boob bursts DD wakes up. :)

kissy exactly that - kept feeling like I should have a sty. Both eyes look bloodshot but not excessively. Weird.

Sophiathesnowfairy · 09/12/2012 07:27

Not a bad night, fed at 11:00 slept from 12ish till 03:40 fell asleep at about 04:30 but in farmyard mode so I had to put a pillow over my ear! Woke up at 7. I am hiding in bed, have sore throat, hope not start of anything and will blow over.

No more vom incidents from DS.

So ok all round.

Then why do I feel done in?

Sophiathesnowfairy · 09/12/2012 07:30

rowing I to have heard good things about cranial osteopaths.

kissy could it be a sty under the lid? I javen't had one for ages. It get them when I am run down.

StuntNun · 09/12/2012 07:40

Jen J's bellybutton had about 1 cm sticking out after the cord came off but it shrank back into place. How is it looking now?

I have a movement monitor Fatima but I haven't connected it up yet because J's in and out of his cot all the time at the moment and you have to remember to switch it off before you lift him or it would go off. I think it will be most useful once he goes into his own room of course we just have to move house first.

I have been using Dermol along with water for nappy changes Detective as it soothes the nappy rash and leaves a protective layer on the skin. Might be worth a try?

Glenda the sticky eyes could be an infection in which case you need chloramphenicol eye drops from the GP. My DS2 had blocked tear ducts for the first year or so and his eyes used to get really gungy and frequently got infected. The ophthalmologist recommended using no more tears shampoo diluted with water which works really well. You can also use breastmilk to clear away the gunge but that's not very scientific!

Regarding the iPhone app, GT, you have to get the recent update for it to keep your place for you.

Sorry to hear about the colic Rowing. It will get better though, with my DS1 it stopped overnight at about six weeks. That probably seems a long way away but when it stops you'll have a completely different baby and you won't look back.

J woke up grizzling about half an hour ago so I brought him into bed to feed him whereupon he immediately fell asleep so I was stuck between a sleeping baby and a snoring DH. I couldn't sleep like that so had to get up. Humph. Who needs sleep anyway? Confused

I have a wedding reception to go to on Saturday and I am currently wearing a size bigger than my usual due to bfing boobs (36G) and wobbly tummy so I was hoping to wear these jeans so that I'll be able to wear them afterwards as I only have a couple of pairs of trousers that fit at the minute. Hope this link works
I thought smart jeans would be okay for a reception. I also bought a new top from Oasis. But DH thinks jeans are not acceptable and I should wear a 'nice dress'. But I don't want to buy something I'll only be able to wear once as I'm hoping to be back to a size 14 in the next few weeks (size 12 may have to wait indefinitely). What does everyone think?

OP posts:
StuntNun · 09/12/2012 07:58

Oh here's the top I bought linkey. It's very flattering because it's loose around the tummy area. At three weeks post-delivery I don't look pregnant any more, just fat! If I bought a dress to wear I would need to buy control underwear as well.

DesperateHousewife21 · 09/12/2012 08:38

We had a brill night with dd, feed at half 2 and half 5 then up at 8ish. However ds was shit and kept wriggling, crying, touching my neck and sticking his hand in my bra strap grr! But I at least got a 5 hour stretch of sleep at the start of the night which is what I needed.

GTbaby · 09/12/2012 08:59

Stunt I have update. But it doesn't save place. Other then look better I see no improvement.

GTbaby · 09/12/2012 09:03

Rowing it will get better I promise. For LO I think gripwater made the difference. So try it. Of course all babies r different. Also try putting LO flat on tummy over ur legs. Pat/ rub back. This seems to sooth my LO.

glendathegoodwitch · 09/12/2012 09:26

I'll try get a drs appt for Dottie's eyes but looking on google 4 weeks and longer is v common.

I feel for those who had a crap night - mine was ok I had a nap between 6-8.30 then stayed up til 11 then again at 3.30 and 6 and just up now but the nap and slight lie in has made it all bearable - I ? weekends!!!

Dottie has just given me her first 2 full on make your heart melt smiles!!!! Hahaha daddy's out with the kids at ice skating lessons so has missed them!!

2 questions - does anyone else have super sensitive boobs/nips when out in the cold?? Mine hurt like buggery and am contemplating wrapping them with a thick scarf!!

Also...... Er...... Arse I've forgotten the 2nd question!!! Will get back to you when baby brain subsides and I remember!!!!

KissysUnderTheMisteltoe · 09/12/2012 09:30

Sorry yes should have said a cranial osteopath, not just an osteopath. They really can do amazing things.

Think the jeans will be fine for a wedding reception stunt like you say no point in buying a dress you'll only wear once! Like the top! I am so stuck in a rut with clothes, haven't tried any pre preg jeans yet as even maternity ones are pretty uncomfy on my section scar still. Feeling very frumpy! Huge bfing boobs won't fit in many of my old clothes either.

First day back to work for DP today, it's been great having him home but quite looking forward to some time with just me and the girls, although don't think we'll be attempting to leave the house today. DD very nearly pulled me over in the mall yesterday when she decided to flop to the floor when I was holding her hand Confused my poor stomach muscles! Don't know what to do with her when she does things like that

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 09/12/2012 09:48

stuntnun I bought a nice bfing dress that is smart enough for a wedding through eBay, but from Mama Feels Good for only £15.99+p&p. I'm planning to wear it over Christmas and at a wedding in January. I too have enormous bfing jugs, so have 2 34G bras that were great for the engorged early days but are not very good for now, and my 34E bfing bras from having DD are too small. Don't want to buy bras now & find they're too big in a couple of wks!!

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 09/12/2012 09:54

glenda yes, I have sensitive nips!! And,I don't feed A every 2 hrs, I get little electric shocks in both boobs from let-down & I start leaking profusely. Thank goodness it doesn't hurt like that when I'm actually feeding.

glendathegoodwitch · 09/12/2012 09:55

Ahhhhh all the talk of big boobies has reminded me of my 2nd question

How do you measure your bra size?? If I measure with my pre bf bra on because of the cup size (which definitely runneth over) it comes out the same size but if I go commando by whopping boobs drop down and so comes out a smaller size??

How the bloody hell do I work out what size I should be getting to contain these puppies?? Also I need to order online so can't just go and try a load on!!!

horseylady · 09/12/2012 10:15

Stunt I think the jeans would be fine. Youve just had a baby!!!

I think I'm wearing this to the wedding I'm going to at xmas

StuntNun · 09/12/2012 10:27

That's weird GT I wonder if it depends on your operating system.

Thanks for the link Chunky that looks like a great site. Horsey your link didn't work please can you repost it.

Glenda there seems to be two different methods for measuring bra size which makes me suspect it's an arcane art. I find even when I try them on they can seem to fit but then by the end of the day they're uncomfortable.

We had a better night despite hurricane strength winds terrifying me that the bay window was bulging and making the Rayburn rage super hot. Decided not to calpol the kraken and he was no worse. Phew.... have also realised that some of his night time farm yard noises - the grunts - are him furiously trying to get out of the swaddle. Bad Mummy he might not like it but sleeps so much better in it Blush

PR don't worry about the cold I used to live in Finland and you'd always see babies in prams pushed outside to sleep even down to -20! There was a study done and the Finns found the optimum temp for baby sleep is -5 (providing they're wrapped warm)
